Cannot get location to work anymore - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I started out with a Vodafone AU
Firmware 1.85.861.3 CL331649
Radio 12.28.h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M
Then I flashed CM7 - didn't take not of the radio version but location stopped being found on google maps etc.
so flashed Virtuous 1.0.2 which uses radio 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26_M
still no location found.....
I tried flashing radio 12.28h.60.140fP+26.06.02.27_M and leaving Virtuous 1.0.2 on, still nothing...
Don't have a backup of my original vodaphone stock firmware but I guess I could flash a 1.34 stock or something... I'm on my ~5th flash today though and I'm running out of patience. is there something I'm missing that stops the location function working?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028405

I ended up putting CM7 back on (which uses 12.28.h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M by the way, didn't know that until the 2nd time I flashed it) and it works fine now, I guess wiping the phone enough times got rid of the EFS data?

[Q] Data-connection difficulties (APN)

Hi!
I'm still pretty new in the rooted world of Android (My first rooted ROM install was the SetROM 1.6 approx), but so far, I got a hold of rooting my phone and installing several ROMS, radio, wiping, backup, etc., and I think I got a pretty good understanding of the fundamentals
Unfortunately I have run in to a problem.
I've flashed the latest radio 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08 and installed the Defrost 2.1 ROM, I've done a full wipe and all went well as usually. The other day, while still back in Defrost 2.0f, I found out that I didn't have a data-connection anymore :S
I Tried other ROMS, with the same result, and I done a full wipe each time. I have enabled Market enabler, and I've checked the APN settings, and the correct ones are still activated.
I don't get a 3g-icon og HSDPA, and when I open the internet browser, it just says the page can't be shown :/
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

BTW - could it have something to do with the radio being flashed to a newer version? Or is it something in the ROM that might be changed.
I'm from Denmark, so dunno if we got some other needs that could have been removed in the ROM etc, when it was cleaned
Hope someone has an answer
PS: Where can i download older radios?

went back to SetROM 1.0 and I'm back online after a full wipe...
hmm... guess I better start working on how to get access in newer ROM's

[Q] Help please!! anyone.

Trying to install Vaelpak 3.0 and I am having 1 hell of a time. I'm thinking it has something to do with my radio wimax pri nv ect.... because earlier in the week I tried flashing the combo and everything went to hell on my phone. I since then had to flash back to the previous radio and then had vp 2.3 running fine again. After that I learned that it was kernel specific problems with older HTC kernels so I flashed netarchy's and then went back to the radio combo and had this problem with my CPU load at 100% and always running at near 1ghz. Then I learned if your rom is not based on the 3.3 that the newest PRL with continue to overload your CPU the entire time. I hadn't gotten this problem really fixed by the time I found VP 3.0 and figured flashing this would just fix my problem with the newest PRI because its based on the 3.3 update.
After a full wipe (data, 2x cache, 2x dalvik) I flashed 3.0 only to get stuck in a white screen boot loop. So I DLed the file from another link moved it manually to my SD and flashed that... same problem. Then I decided I would restore my 2.3 through RA install rom manager and change my recovery over to clockwork to try to install the rom. No go. Then I flashed a previous version of 2.1 used rom manager to put RA back on (I've found this more reliable but at this point who the hell knows). Went into recovery and restored my backup made as of this friday. Still having the problems with the CPU load so I went back to recovery and flashed the older radio combo but noticed this doesn't have NV on it(not sure what NV is either). But all seemed to be working fine for moment until 2.3 started randomly restarting on me. So now my 2.3 isn't working and can't get 3.0 to flash.
Next thing I thought to do was to wipe all again flash 3.0 and then flash netarchy's kernel over the htc #15. BAM!! I get it to run through the boot into the set up menu asking for my gmail account. I enter my account info and wait, wait, wait, then it says cannot get reliable connection to google servers (also I notice that my data instead of a 3g icon says EvDo). Well now this can't be good. I try to turn on my wifi it says that wifi cannot perform search. I enter my network manually cannot find network. I've tried updated profile pri and everything else from settings and always get same error with communications saying call sprint(don't wanna do this will immediately void my warranty I'm thinking). Now the last thing left for me to check is if I can get 2.3 up again and check my wifi ect... through that.
Wipe, Wipe, Wipe, flash older radio combo, flash previous NV that wasn't in combo as far as I could tell, restore 2.3. All seems to be going well until I try my wifi. Cannot search again. WTF?? then instantly black screen to no where. Pull battery try again, get into the settings and then black screen back to Vaelpak boot animation. I am completely lost here I could really use some help. Like I said in the beginning I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with the radios combo ect... but can't figure it out on my own.
Well in case this has happened to anyone else and it is likely to happen somewhere down the road from people upgrading to roms based of the 3.7 update. The quickest fix I found was.
1. DL Unrevoked Forever from web page and flash it
2. Find a stock ruu for the 3.7 or do what I did and just DL Sprint Lovers PC36IMG.zip place in root of SD card and boot into hboot. Install the ruu.
3. Go to settings>software updates and update the PRI and the Profile
4. Remove the PC36IMG.zip from root of your SD card
5.(only applicable if you used the stock ruu) take your recovery of choice name it PC36IMG.zip and place in root of SD card. Boot into HBoot and install
then remove that from root as well.
6. Flash the Rom you were wanting to flash. This will take care of all Radio, Wimax, PRI, NV, and other problems between 3.7 based roms, Kernels and Radios.
Hopes this helps someone along the way.

[Q] Cant get GPS to work on nightly

hey guys
any fix for gps in nightly builds?
i cant get it to work at alll
any help?
I've been using stock radio all throughout CM and the last time it worked for me was with build 4. I'm on build 28 or 29 now, but read somewhere in the thread that reflashing the stock radio worked for them, so I tried it. I am on a G2, whose stock radio is the 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M. I flashed the nightly, then reflashed the radio. I can't get a GPS lock in my house (I've been able to do it before), but I tried it a few miles away while at an In-And Out drive-thru and I got a lock within seconds and was able to use navigation just fine with voice.
G2 stock radio download link (verify this is your current radio if you're on stock)
Radio thread (instructions too - fastboot with the radio renamed on the root of sd card)
I'm not sure how this plays out in the past two nightlies, but this worked for me. You'd probably have to reflash the radio every nightly.
If you're on a Desire Z, I'd recommend checking what radio you're on and looking for it in that radio thread and trying to flash your current radio after the nightly.
cheers ill try it i have the europe htc desire z so ill have to find the stock radio
thanks!!!
Or you can use RC2....
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
nah the rc2 doesnt work for me either ive tried all the nightly builds and cyanogen mod rc1 and rc2 and they dont work shame, the only trouble i have is with gps.
i have a question, my radio is this one:
Vision_RADIO_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26
MD5 Check Sum: CB45ED9CB543E433E49B8022FC17ACB9
from OTA Update Tmobile rom 1.22
however my phone is the desire z straight from htc, does it matter if the radio i flash is from the tmobile rom
thanks
When I did mess with my radios, the GPS started working but my phone stopped recognizing HSDPA, even after going back to the stock radio. I went back to 6.1.1 then restored my previous 7 nightly. The "H" symbol came back but my GPS vanished. I did try the RIL auto-matching install, but that came up with nothing.
I'll do more searching, but this is a weird situation.
Are you talking about cm7 nightlys? Cuz they fixed it on #29 I think. Well I have #30 nd it is working
Sent from my SilverBullet "HTCDesireZ running CM7"
okay ill try and flash again lol
and i know its weired lol i tried using the gps status and tools but it just keeps showing the loading circle lol
ah well, its not that much of a big deal, i spose roms are developing every day so hopefully there will be a fix soon lol
thanks

Another GPS Problem

Hey guys,
Don't shoot me, I've already done the research and still can't seem to find an answer. Regardless of ROM I can't get GPS to find any satellite's, fresh root, SR4.2, Synergy RC2, CM7 nightly, MIUI, Virtuous. I unrooted to see if it was a possible hardware issue, which it isn't as an unrooted phone gives me fast locks onto whatever sat is near. GPS Status shows nothing in the sky even after a A-GPS reset and download, although I know there's always at least 3 that are visible. I've tried clearing cache for any gps based app, tried running fresh rom installs instead of backups all with no luck. Any ideas guys?
Currently I'm running:
ROM - SR 4.2
Baseband - 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel - Stock Kernel from SR4.2 (2.6.32.17-g9a2fc16 htc-kernel[email protected] #1
PRL - 52341
HW Version - 0002
CWM - 3.0.0.7
HBoot - 0.92.0000
Radio - 2.15.00.07.28
Looks like I'm stuck going back to stock unrooted until I can get this fixed.
I'm having the exact same problem. Tried multiple roms and doing A-GPS resets. I'm not sure what else to try, anyone have any other ideas? May have to unroot for now so I can use GPS while traveling.

If you are in NY or other new 4g area it may be related to a problem others are having with AGPS upate VZW pushed. No ROM seems to work.
yep, it was an issue with New York. We drove to Boston on Sunday, I tried clearing my A-GPS in western Massachusetts and suddenly got a lock on GPS! Google maps then worked perfectly all the way to Boston.
Well there is no way I'm giving up root or custom roms, Google or Verizon need a better solution than that.
I actually fixed mine and never left NY, I dropped to stock then went back to SR 4.3 and haven't had a problem since, and I've flashed 3.0 roms and SR 4.3 multiple times with no problem. So if you're still having a problem unroot then reroot. It should fix it.

GPS Partial Functionality Issue solution

My GPS stopped functioning in the correct manner on my Wildfire S A510a.
It may have been happening previous to my upgrade to Jikantaru XE Asian ROM or it may have happened after. I can't really say.
I tried everything including loading my base Bell Mobility rom and replacing the gps.conf file in system/etc to no avail.
It would work in google maps it seemed but in nothing else and applications like Wifi Finder, CoPilot Live, GPS Stats, etc simply wouldn't see the GPS and complain that it was off regardless of the toggle switch being on.
Also the GPS taskbar icon would not show.
I was running HBOOT-0.90.0000 and RADIO-7.46.36.14M from the stock bell rom.
I had an idea and first double checked that the stock RUU from Sasktel was for a GSM phone and it was.
I created a rom for it from the exe and flashed it to the phone, upgrading the HBOOT to 1.30.0000 and the RADIO to 7.47.36.19M.
When I booted into the stock Sasktel I had working GPS!
After doing so I reinstalled Custom recovery and rooted the phone again then restored my NANDROID backup of the XE rom and re-inserted the SD card that went with it.
The result?....
Working GPS again.
Hopefully this helps those with buggy or not working GPS.

I think I have a quite similar problem, but I don't know if I have an hardware or a software problem.
I read about fixing throu .conf modification, but my situation is that neither "Root System" software detect my gps hardware..
I was thinking about updating radio driver, but I don't understand if it's possible without flashing with a new rom or not..
If yes, where can I get the update.zip?
Now I have RADIO-7.46.35.08
Thanks a lot
D.
I had the same problem after switching roms, google maps fine but no other gps apps that were installed had a gps fix. Tried everything to fix, in the end did a fresh install of navigation apps deleting the data folders then everything was fine again.
Maybe it needed different config files as i went from htc rom to cm7
