Latest update from o2......i emailed yesterday:
"Apologies for asking a question that you are no doubt sick of answering, but are you able to give an estimated release date of the WM6 rom update package for the XDA orbit?
As well as having one personally – I am currently organising a large number of the units within the company and would prefer to update the software prior to doing so.
Any guide at all would be very welcome, and again apologies for asking."
And the reponse today?

Thank you for your e-mail.
There will be a ROM upgrade available very shortly, which will provide WM 6 functionality.
Unfortunately we have no exact timescale, but we would advise to keep checking our Xda web site www.my-xda.com as from the start of next week.
Sorry we cannot be more precise with our answer, but if you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Which you can unistall and not use if you dont want it.
Mines running fine, no bugs and no o2 software - first thing I did was uninstall it.

No was just talking about any o2 Rom image that I have had on various phones. Uninstall the crud then its not there, unless you do a hard reset and load it all again.

Presumably if you remove the custom set-up, you have to configure all the GPRS and MMS settings ?
If you have already run the custom set up and then remove it, would those settings remain ?

1) No it doesnt remove the settings and
2) correct, they stay.
Well for me they did anyway.
But there is a program "O2 Operator settings" on my Orbit, that can not be deleted by uninstalling it through remove programs as its not listed.
It sets up the settings on a hard reset and can be run again incase of emergencies.
Not looked at unlocking the extended rom but I dare say it is in there and could be extracted and kept.

there is a file that will do your settings for you.

I've not managed to find that o2 file that does it all for you - maybe my search skills are weak !!!!!!!!
Anyone give mt a clue please ??

Should work, let me know if it does or not, if it does I will upload it to the ftp server.

Was in an 02 store today, my orbit wifi wasn't working for the 3rd time. told them i was fed up with it. then told the assistant that on the forums it says that wm6 improves wifi reliability and when this was going to come out. he said he didnt know when it was out. he then rang 02 customer services and asked they said they didnt know. i then told him i am cancelling my contract as they were breaching the terms. he then rang another number and after about 5-10 mins, comes back, and says it is due to be released on the 24th of july or sooner. i then left with a brand new perfectly working orbit.
so wait it out!!!

just emailed again
..asked them if they could give any more clues....i'll post the reply when it arrives.
However, do we really need the official o2 rom when B&B 3.7 offers so much more.
I'm gonna give it a try - but i'm guessing it will miss the boat
Add touchflo to 3.7 and I probably won't even bother TRYING the o2 rom!!!

Well, it's July 24th today so fingers crossed!

O2 website no different today than yesterday. Still no upgrade link...................yet. Maybe that will change as the day goes on, we'll see.

Just spoke to O2 UK Business Marketing
O2 UK business marketing said they will have an information update late next week in ref to WM6 upgrade for the O2 XDA Orbit. The only information they have currently is there will be a WM6 upgrade available mid August 2007.

Wow that is one sexy app...

ill have to check it out i made a four square account and dont even get it i just made it to try the app lol

Been using it since its relaunch. Very nice app. Still can't add new places, always ends with an error for some reason.

Anyone on Mango having issues installing the most recent update of the 4sq app? 2.1 tells me I need a newer version of Windows Phone to install it.

I can see that there is a new 2.1 version listed in the marketplace, but the only way I could install it was to uninstall/reinstall (BTW, I'm not running the Mango beta). But even after doing that, it reports the version as 2.0.0.1153, and it's still painfully slow to load.

I have 2.0.0.1153
I can't get 2.1 on Mango for now. A bit slow but okay I suppose.

After some testing... its a gorgeous app, bringing out some of the best WP7 can have, but its performance next alot of tuning.
Compared to 4th & Square, its still pretty slow.

I installed it before Mango and it works fine, sometimes a bit sluggish.
I also noticed the live tile doesn't update immediately. Sometimes it takes a restart of the app.

Brand new update released recently now installs on Mango rather than giving you an error message.
But now, the brand new update of 4th & Mayor does not install on Mango.

4th and Mayor works great on my Samsung Focus running Mango. Not sure why it isn't working for you.

Latest version of 4th & Mayor working fine on mango on hd7.

No problems here. Both apps are working great on my phone. Used the official app to check in for lunch today and it worked perfectly.

Its basically a tile of your foursquare point scoreboard. Nothing really that special.

But why am I not getting it? Maybe its only for US customers? As I am india right now.. so a lot of things are not working .. MP is slow, bing map and a lot of other apps are useless ..

I live in Portugal and the live tile works fine and updates regurlarly.
And its just your score and your friend's scores, their pics included.

Unlocked DVP? Get your Mango NOW!

Sure, Mango has started rolling out today, but only 10% of eligible customers are actually scheduled to receive the update on day one. The entire process may take up to four weeks. That’s practically a month. I don’t know about you, but my go-go lifestyle doesn’t allow for that kind of waiting.
Thankfully there is a solution. No, I don’t mean to bury yourself under the snow and ask a friend to thaw you out after four weeks are up. That could totally backfire! Instead, why not trick Zune into giving you the update right away? The process has worked our staff and many of our readers, even European ones.
Find out how after the break.
[Force Mango update]
Before we begin, keep in mind that a total of three updates must be installed on the path to Mango: 7392, 7403, and 7720, which is Mango itself. The process will take a while. Some people may already have 7392, in which case things will move a bit faster. I also recommend removing any music and unessential apps from the phone beforehand, as that can significantly cut down on the time it takes to backup and restore the phone's data.
Steps to force a Mango update on phones for which Mango has started rolling out:
- Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software
- Click on Phone > Settings > Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
- Time to force the update. Click another button (any of the options above or below the word Update). Then click the Update button again, and this time disconnect your computer from the internet after 1-2 seconds. Do this by pulling out the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc. If it says your phone is already up to date, you didn't disconnect quickly enough and need to try this step again.
- Wait 30 seconds or so and Zune should display a notification that an update is available. This is 7392, the first Mango pre-update.
- Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software.
- After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that another update is available. If so, install it now. If not, proceed to the next step.
- If the second update isn't popping up on its own, repeat steps 3-5, causing the 7403 update to appear.
- Install 7403, brave reader. Speeding right along, isn't it?
- Mango time! At this point, Zune should automatically start installing the last update, 7720, aka Mango. If it doesn't happen automatically, force it like we did in previous steps.
- This last step is very important! Celebrate your phone’s new found Mango status by purchasing a mango smoothie at your nearest Smoothie King, Jamba Juice, Baskin Robbins, or similar establishment.

The "Compass 7" App is not working, and i can't log in to hidden Wlan.
Current firmware on my Phone after Mango-Update (forced) is 2250.1800.7720.219

I got it to Mango after 45 mins, most of the time related to downloading update software from Internet. Now enjoying it's crazy lovely Bing new features!!! Thanks crazy cat for this!!!

neither hidden wlan setup nor the ICS will work on carrier xml provisioned devices (so far)

What does "unlock" means? I have my DVP sim unlocked so it now takes any gsm provider's sim. is that what is meant by unlock here?

Nope. It means it would have been purchased unlocked with no carrier affiliation. Buying sim-locked then unlocking wont cut it.

Not available in all markets
The Skype Beta seems to be limited to certain markets. I cannot download it in Germany. Hopefully Microsoft is extending the Beta to more countries soon.
EDIT: The Zune Link is not working, but the web marketplace link (from Skype Blog) is working in Germany.

I put a note upthere, confirmed it work with IE only, haven't tried on Firefox and Opera.

But its a beta of course. Ow weird, I'm restarting the app now and the greek name shows up now, very strange haha. Never mind then.
I hope they can somehow use the ringtone when there would be an incoming skype call. This is what prevents tango from working correctly atm.
Unfortunately the design is not as nice as the mockups joe belfiore showed a year ago (!). But its better than nothing and I'm certainly happy with it, have been wanting this for long time

I put it onto my LG Optimus Quantum using Application Deployment and seems to be working great.

You can only download it directly on the phone. Zune on the Desktop only work for US users (because zune:// links don't support a locale parameter). It's not searchable in the marketplace either.
I recommend using the QR code in the official blog post.

Windows Phone 7.8 Bluetooth Share and Ringtone Maker

Guys, the Bluetooth Share and Ringtone Maker is available on Marketplace for those that already upgrade to WP 7.8.
What you have to do is first download app on Marketplace called QR Code Reader and scan this QR code which will bring you to the Bluetooth Share and Ringtone Maker app on marketplace.
PS: Searching the app name for Ringtone Maker and Bluetooth Share on Marketplace will bring you nothing (In my case). Its likely been hide by Nokia.
EDIT: Looks like Nokia already block Lumia 900 owner who are trying to install this 2 app from marketplace saying "its not available for your phone". But i manage to get it before its been block. In fact this 2 app work like a charm on my Lumia 900 (Already send & receive file with Sony Xperia). Its not like the app is not compatible, more like Nokia trying to prevent Lumia 900 user from installing this 2 app. Sory for that.
EDIT 2: I have successfully send and receive picture and mp3 file with sony xperia..but, theres no support for video file. u can receive video file, but u can't send yours, and even u have receive the file, an error saying this type of file didn't not support by this app will came out. this is really suck. Wish this app is not the final version.

i didnt bother with the QR scanner the built in search feature allows you to do visual searches on QR codes natively and it is faster.
for those who need aren't clear on how just press the search button on the phone then tap on the eye symbol and then hold the camera upto the QR codes. it'll match them to the respective URL's which you tap and the rest should be obvious.

now thats weird, im using myself..no such error..i even sending and receiving file from my lil brother sony xperia..Nokia already blocked it mybe?

i dont know if there is app which can rip app from wp. i dont think theres a way to transfer app between wp.

The requirement for these 2 app is WP 7.8, i dont think theres WP 7.8 variant for AT&T right now. Even if u already get the WP 7.8, Nokia already blocked these 2 app from being install on Lumia 900. So, the only way is to wait for an official release on January

i tod only lumia 900 user were blocked from installing these 2 apps? O.O, but thats not surprise, becoz WP 7.8 that we used right now is meant to pre-production device. So, better wait for the official one.

Is there anyway to install those apps in HTC devices??
Note that my HTC HD7 is Officially Developer Unlocked, I tried to deploy the .xap files but both but didn't work
