[Q] deblur flipside? - Flipside Android Development

so... if i wanted to, in essence, deblur my flipside....
what do i want to delete?
and... what would i need to come up with a replacement for to not lose functionality?
and finally... would titanium backup be the best/easiest way to do so?
thanks

Yes, titanium with the freeze option is the way to go...make sure to add ADWex to cover up blur and make the phone more like android should be.

[Q] Getting replacement desire, need to backup!

Unfortunately I cracked the digitizer on my Desire and I'm not really willing to buy a digitizer and then fit it myself in case I do break the phone as obviously my tinkering will void my warranty. So instead I have chosen to get a replacement from Orange. That is £160 and then at least 6 months insurance coming in at £6 a month. For me, a college student, it is the only viable option
Anyway, I am rooted on OpenDesire. If I want my new handset to be in exactly the same state as my current Desire, do I just need to do a complete backup with Titanium Backup onto my microSD, root the new phone with OpenDesire then restore all settings and programs from the backup on my SD? Obviously some things won't be exactly the same such as custom icons but I can redo that myself.
Also, do you think I should restore the Orange rom etc and unroot the phone before returning it?
Thanks in advance, Jake.
Hi
Be sure you unrooted the phone before returning it, its always better. According to the backup, make a nandroid backup, then unroot, after getting the phone back repaired root again and restore from the nandroid backup you made. Everything should be exactly the same as it was when you made the backup
However, wait at least for one another person to support my thought

[Q] Newb questions about rooting/roms

So i have an HTC Evo with the latest OTA update 3.70.651.1. Completely stock, non rooted. I know very little about both rooting and roms other then what i quickly went over in a few Q&A's here.
Im not sure what to do, if anything, so i thought id ask here. Primarily id like to be able to delete unwanted stock apps/bloatware and backup the entire phone (like making a recovery image). Itd be nice to be able to wirelessly tether but this isnt necessary. Other then that id like to keep it the same.
Is it possible to root but use the stock rom? if so what does this accomplish?
Is there a risk free way to accomplish my goals?
Thanks

You would need to root to do this.

Absolutely. Thats what I do. The only reason I rooted was for wireless tether, and titanium backup. Other than that, I didnt want another rom, I love the stock one.

Exactly what you just asked for in the previous paragraph.

Nope. There is ALWAYS a risk when doing anything in life, and rooting your phone in no different. However, it is actually quite difficult to completely brick your phone. Most of the time, if you follow the directions, you will be fine. But if you do screw up, you can usually just flash a stock ruu and redo it.
Thanks for the information. Is there anything the free version of titanium backup doesnt backup? What does a nandroid backup save?
Also will rooting alone allow me to delete any app on the phone?
Lastly what would be the recommended way for someone new like me to root my phone (or resources i can use to pick a method)? Is there a way to restore my phone back to stock if i need to?
Thanks again. As i ask these questions im also digging into the forums looking for specific answers
Hey welcome to XDA.
I don't know when you received your phone, but it seems very brand new to me, I would say your best luck is to try to look for the details of your main specs in your phone, when you start to root your phone, you look for instructions here to setup properly on How to do the root process with the same exact phone detail specs of it.
I was rooted with an older OTA at first, but I see these new OTAs are up on new EVOs but It's kinda fishy to think of how to root it with the latest OTA on the old leet legit methods that toastcfh had...you know...The Manual Professional way, without the risk of bricking your phone completely, if you had the chance to root successfully with idiot proof instructions, I say that was quite a day for me then.
Actually ive had my Evo since release, ive just been too scared to risk bricking it til now lol.
i currently have:
hboot 2.10
software 3.70.651.1
hardware 0002
i took down some other info but idk if it matters for rooting directions.
So far from my searches it appears the only option for hboot 2.10 + 3.70.651.1 is a pretty lengthy/difficult for beginners method. Is that accurate?
Also my primary concern is deleting bloatware/included apps, does rooting alone allow me to delete these?
Also none of the guides ive seen detail how to backup your phone before the root, is there an easy way to make like a backup image of the stock stuff + data, sms, phone log, etc?
Thanks again everyone, still digging but your help will make it go much more smoothly
So ive pretty much discovered that my 2 options are do it the "hard" way or wait for unrevoked to update their stuff for the newest evo software/hboot. Im probably going to wait.
In the meantime i want to make sure of a few things, deleteing apps, backup, wireless tether. How would i approach each of these; can i use the built in app manager to delete apps? the built in wireless tether to tether? what exactly does nandroid backup compared to titanium backup?
Does the stock rom support netfilter?
Is there any scenario in which ota updates wont break root?
Thanks again

To delete apps, you will want to use Titanium Backup. After removing stock apps, some of them still stay indexed, so you will need to boot to recovery and wipe your cache and dalvik to clear them from the apps list.
You won't be able to use the built-in wireless tether to tether unless you flash a new rom that unlocked that feature. Once rooted, there is a an app on the market called Wireless Tether for Root Users that will accomplish what you are looking for.
Titanium Backup will also allow you to backup your apps and data so that in the event you do flash a new rom, you can restore them without losing anything.
Titanium Backup is designed to backup your apps and data, Nandroid(recovery) will backup your entire ROM, so if you do flash a new rom, you can always revert back to your stock setup exactly how you left it.
OTA updates will always break your root, but at the same time don't offer much in the terms of upgrading. Plus 90% of the time the dev's here release a rooted version of the OTA update very shortly after it goes live.

If I root a Desire with unrevoked will I lose all sms and app data?

Hi,
Okay, I've rooted my own phone but I my friend asked me to root theirs. They don't want to lose their SMS/MMS or app data (i.e angry birds levels...). Thing is, I just can't remember if when using Unrevoked whether you lose any of this data or not? Or if you did, how do you back it up to restore it afterwards? So, if anyone can clear this up for that'd be great.
Cheers
no data lost with root. backup and restore in recovery.
we can say rooting is change of permissions.
nothing will be deleted, don't worry.
You won't lost apps/messages or anything. Root your phone and after it, you should install Titanium Backup or someting simillar, and make backups of everything you want to. For SMS backups, you can use eg. Go SMS Pro - it's app for sending/reciving SMS/MMS/etc, and has backuping option (but, I don't know why, I cannot restore my messages after change a ROM (from Cool3d to Runnymede)).
cheers
Hmmm....
The OP question was about root with Unrevoked. As far as I can see, you cannot just root with Unrevoked - it looks like Unrevoked automatically roots AND reflashes, so you would lose the data.
Similarly all the tutorials say it will wipe the phone.
Somebody care to correct me if I am wrong?

Noobs first question (Unlock Bootloader & Root)

I'm new to the world of android as I've been on the iphone for the past 3 years. I have been reading everything here that I can as to avoid pissing you guys off from having to answer these simplistic questions over and over. I know you guys get tired of it and I have been searching and trying to learn.
I have a pretty basic question and was hoping to get some input and advice.
I know nothing about Bootloader & Root. As I said I'm coming from the iphone. My question is, should i unlock the bootloader and root as soon as I get the device? What are the advantages in doing so? I really have no intention of modding the device and planned on leaving it totally stock. I got burnt out on modding way back with Motorola seam updates! I know doing this would wipe the device so I was wondering if I should do it 1st, but since google syncs everything to the device, couldn't I do it later and still sync everything back just like when you 1st get it?
Unlocked bootloader lets you flash costume kernels cooked and modded by the devs here, could give a more optimized phone or a more unstable.. root gives you super user or admin over your phone, that lets you delete, change or add systemfiles, some market appa depend on it.. as an everyday user, you do not NEED to do these things to your phone, but if you ever get boored and want to play around to keep your phone "new and exciting" its a nice way to keep you from tire and buy something new for a while. My xperia x10 is miles better then stock my incoming SGN i will probably keep it stock for a while.. Welcome to the community
Oh and yes, once you synced your contacts and apps you can play around with modds and allways get them synced to your phone, app DATA will however not sync.

I Unlocked my bootloader first thing out of the box.. Because it will wipe everything. After that you can root and flash CWM without any data loss so you are free to run stock or rooted stock as long as you want and be able to flash when your ready and use titanium backup to restore your apps.
I need Titanium backup. I don't know how people get by without it. Therefore I have to root every phone right away.
I would say rooting is the most important for backing up app data. The sync tells you that it will back up and restore app data but it doesn't really. It only backs up certain data and only if the app is written specifically to support it, iirc. With root you can use tools like Titanium Backup to back up everything in case you need to factory reset, change phone or simply just going back to an earlier backup.

I don't have a SGN (yet) but when I. Got my DROID Incredible I rooted it as soon as someone found a way... took a few hours but I was too impatient for one-click root.
Anyway, I did it solely to remove bloat and Sense. Since the SGN is stock, and the GSM version doesn't have any bloat that I'm aware of... I'd say you could stay stock for a while, root if you feel the need later (or want the extra benefits of Titanium BU or other root apps).

[Q] Downgrading to Froyo required?

Hi,
I hope this is not asked before.
This is my situation - I am going to move from DZ to another Android phone. I understand that Titanium Backup can do all the backup and it needs root. In fact I have my phone rooted and Titanium Backup in it, but now TB says it cannot obtain the root privilege. But on the other hand, if I try to temproot using VISIONary+, it says my phone is rooted. Last year my phone was upgraded to Gingerbread via OTA, I am not sure if this is the cause.
Now I just want a single shot of root to get TB work once and that's it. I understand I cannot root 2.3.x directly and have to downgrade to Froyo first. Is there any alternative? Also, it seems to be a dead-loop question - before rooting I need to backup all the things, but without rooting I cannot get TB to work. Other apps like MyBackup Pro can do most of the thing but it cannot save apps data.
Hope my questions are not so clumsy.
If you look at this guide there is a way to get full temp-root (Titianium Backup working) on gingerbread.

Hi Nipqer.
Thank you, yes I also notice this tutorial. Should I go through 1) to 3), 1) and 3) only or only 3)? I suppose I don't need to do 4) right?
Just 1 and 3 to run Titanium.
