Have Dinc what should I get next - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I started out with the OG Droid then got the Droid 2 then traded with my wife for the Incredible solely for the custom roms. I have had an upgrade on my account for 6 months now and don't want to wait any longer for the Bionic. I have another line with an upgrade in November so I will get another phone in the fall.
As I see it my choices are Droid Incredible 2, Thunderbolt or Droid Charge. There is no 4G in my area or even close. Specs seems pretty similar to me between the phones. So what would you guys recommend for the best phone for the next 6 months or so.
Thanks for your input

The Inc2 while not a big upgrade from the original, does look pretty nice but in the next few months I imagine we'll be seeing some pretty nice phones coming out. 6 months is a long time in the tech world so who knows what will be available then. I personally would probably stick with HTC and other unlocked devices for development purposes. It would be great if we start seeing some other stock android devices on Verizon.

Agreed, loving HTC phones since my lil Eris
But yeah, I was really interested in the HTC Merge for a long time. IT was my dream phone when it first leaked. Now that they've scaled back on what its going to have (really only difference from the INC is the slider keyboard), I'm going to have to pass on it. I hear the guys in the T-Bolt forums are doing some amazing things with it.
If it were me...I'd wait. My INC has served me well, and I'd hate to get rid of it for anything that is going to be a minor upgrade.

Seconded. I'd love to see some of the new dual core phones reach Verizon. Maybe by April 2012? I have a 2 year contract. Who knows what will be out by then.

My Time Has Come..

Loyal Inc2 folks im out.
I just went and purchased a GNex for myself and passed my Inc2 onto my wife for the time being, (until she decides what she wants then im gonna sell it).
Either way..its been real folks!

Peace out bro'!

It's been fun bro. You should still heard around here some. Just saying.
I hope your gnex will be a better experience than my customers. Already had around 6 returned due to crappy sound quality and random freezes. I am sure a lovely non stock rom will fix the issues.

I've heard nothing but great things about the custom ROMs. Especially AOKP.
Now did you pay full price for a g nexus? Did you have an upgrade? I always wonder how people change their phones so frequently. Is there a secret to getting a new phone with out having to pay 500+ for one??

Wirefly. Lol if you're upgrading you can get the gnex for like $99.
i have a corporate acct so i get a boat load of discounts and upgrades are enabled every 6 months. i haven't paid more than $199 for a device since my Omnia back in 2009.
so far no issues AT ALL.
already rooted and flashed AOKP and its smooth as butter.
this 4G **** is on another level let me tell you that much..i havent turned on my wifi yet because the 4G is that fast!

I saw you posted 99 on wirefly, so I had to check it out...my incredible has been having mic problems, and often texts wont receive. I want a nexus so bad, but I don't want to pay more than 100. It says its 229 for an upgrade on wirefly though.

its new and still working out the kinks. A TON of devs though.
and alot of us Inc2 owners knew each other from the OG Dinc threads.

If you could upgrade tonight?

So I know this ahould probably be in q&a, but probably won't get many hits over there...
I can't upgrade until February 2013, but called in today about my phone and they are giving me the option for early upgrade. Catch is, the supervisor was just being really cool and most likely will not get this opportunity again.
No Inc lte unfortunately as that's what I thought I would get in Feb. Good news is I can preorder the s3 or any other phone on the current roster... What would you do? I have 2 hours to decide if I'm gonna do it. Also, I think I'll be grandfathered in for unlimited data if done now, right?

What are your thoughts on the s3? I'm afraid that the Inc 4g will be too similar... this way I would have my giant, more powerful 4g phone, along with my 'normal' sized inc2 that runs ics without a hitch (on stock kernel) trying to justify this because the specs are pretty impressive on the Sammy, buuuttt... My fascinate sucked lol

Lol, doing the exact same thing as you. And I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the s3. Spec wise it's too impressive, and you know it's going to get good dev support. I've flip flopped around on what phone I wanted for awhile now but I'm wanting to try out a Sammy phone.

Just pre-ordered two S3's for me and the wife

(FYI) Inc 4g has s-off coming

Does this really belong here? prolly not
but i know a lot of inc2 users dont want to upgrade and loose unlimited data, and buying phones off contract can be crazy expensive to keep it
inc4g can typically be had for under $250 on ebay/cl, and now we have s-off coming (which being locked was a major point for many to avoid the phone)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944157
basically thought id throw this out there, for those looking for a pretty good (i love it, others refuse to use anything smaller than 4.3 inch screen these days) 4g phone that can be had off contract used for just about upgrade pricing, can now not worry about having an unrootable/locked phone :good:
it will most likely be getting official jellybean at some point, which the rezound probably wont (nothing against rezound, but that could be a deal breaker for some)
Awesome, the not unlockable at all part was definitely what had me staying away from this, I knew it'd get done eventually though, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for this nits. Are you on the dinc4g now? It's something to consider at that price. Is battery comparable to what we have now on dinc2? I may have to Google to see how big an improvement it is. I don't recall any of the tech specs for it.

yeah ive had the inc4g since launch...i was one of the fortunate ones (maybe 80-100?) that got dev unlocked through htcdev when the phone was unoffiicially supported for its first 10 days post launch...after that htc killed support to it...
theory was either a) verizon told them to (verizon claims our stock release software and unlock would cause issues...according to some support folk) or b) verizon just didnt want it unlockable
in any event, it ll work out in the end, cuz we probably wouldnt have soff if we had dev unlock as andy might not have had to reach out to the i/o guys if we still had unlock...and soff is so much better
but our sense4.1/android 4.0.4 update this week contained the exploit the guys needed to get temproot and soff the device supposedly :good:
as for the device?
battery life is incredible for a 4g device...on the stock battery and kernel i get 4 hours screen on time regularly (more than my inc2), in lte coverage the whole time...radios are very good
comparing it to the inc2, i guess form factor differences would be iphone 4s vs iphone5...the inc4g is narrower, but qhd res....i happen to like the screen a lot (even though some blogs killed it)....its very responsive, and smooth (even more so now on sense4.1 vs 4.0)
Keep us posted on the s-off. Thanks nit.
Thanks for the info Justin.
Well I will certainly be getting this phone for sure.

I'm certainly going to think hard on it. I have to go off contract to keep unlimited anyways. I may begin monitoring the forum to see how much dev support swings over there. Will cyanogenmod ever support non moto phones? Lol.

Since when did CM only support moto phones?? Only reason we aren't supported is because we don't have kernel source, we used to be for GB.

I understand that. Just frustrated that Verizon is kicking us to the curb it seems. Lol. I hope source does release and we still get supported!!! I just am nervous to buy a non nexus given Verizon's dropping of the ball on devices at random.

If anyone cares for another opinion, I can pretty much confirm Justin's take on the Dinc4. I had the Dinc2 for quite a while and absolutely loved it (now my dad loves it.) I was predisposed to the Dinc4 because the form factor of the Dinc2 was perfect. Once I noticed Justin had the phone and knew it would have great ROMs, that sealed the deal. My phone arrived THE DAY HTC removed it from their unlock tool :'(
So after 3 months with the Dinc4, I'm a little baffled by the amount of negative reviews on this phone. The screen is fantastic, the camera is outstanding, and the phone (stock) is smooth and responsive. The latest update made it even better. Battery life is great. If you like your Dinc2 as much as I did and aren't looking for a phablet size device, I think this is a great upgrade.
Cheers.
+1 I just got mine and I love it. Except for the lack of root, but like nits said that will be available in the near future. The form of the phone reminds me of the og inc and I loved that lil guy
if root ever becomes available for it, i might look around to trade my dinc2 + some cash maybe, for one. dinc2 is my first Android based phone and I really love it. I even liked it on stock, but root is just amazing lol
We're told root is coming soon
Once the s-off tool is released, i'm sure root will accompany root.

yeah, just fastboot a recovery and flash a superuser package and youre set (post s-off)
I think just maybe HTC threw the dinc4g a bone. They have supported the android underground in the past. They still would if very greedy wireless hadn't stepped in.
It makes sense to me, that they released an update knowing full well that we could exploit it.
Anyone else think the same?

well thats the rub, its not

Well, it's goodbye!!!

With a heavy heart I am here to confess I am leaving the world of Vivow... :crying: The waiting game for updates and empty promises from HTC and Verizon both, I have made this decision to sell my Incredible 2 and never look back. With that said, I am also saying farewell to HTC completely. Not enough backing of their current lineup in my opinion. I shouldn't have to upgrade to the latest phone just to get the new build of Sense or latest build of Android. I should also not have to depend on community developers to get what I want. Oh well, it's time to cut the strings.
Dev's.. from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you all for giving us your personal time and effort into developing fun, useful, and up-to-date roms that just make us flash-aholics happy!! You will never be forgotten!!

Ah.. those issues if I remember were ROM related.. The phone has always been 100% using stock or CM7/9 ... but it's very picky about what other roms I use.. very strange device I have.. but un-rooted and stock it will be good as new.. cosmetically just a few blemishes and only one 1/4" scratch on the screen... not bad for having it and using it almost non-stop for almost 2 years now.. I have it on eBay but I'm thinking of pulling it.. almost 40 views already and 3 watchers.. unless that grows I'll probably yank it.. maybe.. I don't know..
Any thoughts on what you are hoping to get out of it?

Honestly, I think the best way to go would be an unlocked gsm nexus device because Verizon screws even nexus owners with updates. The gsm version already has official 4.2.1 yet us toro (vzw) owners only have official 4.1.1 and have to rely on custom roms for 4.2.1

So here it is. Time to upgrade. Followed the Eris->Inc 1->Inc 2 path so obviously I seem to like HTC phones but the Galaxy S3 seems like a nice one too. Since I like the Inc's I'm stuck choosing between a Incredible 4G LTE and a Samsung Galaxy S3. Anyone have helpful info or opinions?
