Droid Incredible 2 Super Amoled/Amoled? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Didn't see an incredible 2 forum yet so I thought that I would ask this here. Any clue if the inc 2 is going to have an amoled or perhaps even a super amoled screen?

Well at least it's better than standard lcd.

Yea but it'll look worse than the OG incredible because they have the same screen and pixels but the incredible 2 stretches out some pixels because of its bigger screen.

I thinks it looks very sharp

I like it too, but do yourself a favor and don't whip it out next to an iphone4 or you will be really disappointed.

Lol I really wish it had an AMOLED screen, since they're better on battery life. That's cuz wherever you see a black spot, its true black. Like the pixel is actually off. Since that's the case, you run a dark theme or whatever and you're set. Lol

How the heck did this get revived from april?

It isn't the highest resolution, it isn't the highest PPI, but I find that the screen is excellent. When comparing with a friend's iPhone 4, I actually thought mine looked better/brighter/more vivid (although that may be an illusion because of the .5 inch larger screen)
I am not disappointed.

I just had a friend tell me the other day how great his dual core Iphone was and I admit it looked good but some how my incredible2 running MIUI was faster even on the same sites we tried so Im considering renaming my phone to "The Iphone Slayer" lol
I dont think the apple screen is much better then what i got now just my opinion

I've always found the screen is a pretty damn good size. It's not a retina display, but it's plenty high.

Calling it a Retina is like directly calling SJ and begging for a lawsuit
The pixel density is already really high on the Evo as it is. Sure, it could be pushed higher, but just like the iPhone4, outside of ~6" from your face, you won't be able to tell a difference.
Super AMOLED can't happen because Samsung has them only for their own private use for the next 18 months!. It's kinda ridiculous IMO, but whatevs. Plus they only make them in 4" ATM not 4.3"
AMOLED is also in short supply, plus, they're not made in 4.3" varieties either. At least not in the mass market. The cost for a 4.3" AMOLED would be ridiculously high anyway.
Sorry to burst your bubble

Nothing wrong with it, but as far as taking my phone outside in the sunlight I will admit i have a hard time seeing it at times. My vision is 20//40 so i have good eye sight. So to sum it up, id like to have a screen i can see in the sunlight, and better looking in general not saying that the EVO's screen sucks or anything.
I was also just curious if any company was producing screens as the EVO is very easy to dismember.

dont AMOLED suck in direct sunlight or am i mistaken?
C'mon PixelQi.
They aready offer 10" screen for you to replace your netbook ones with.
Basically, it looks like an LCD with the backlight turned on and works normally as such. However, when you turn off the backlight, you get a color e-paper-esque display that has no refresh rate issues whatsoever. It really is sthe best of both worlds and anoth major LCD maker has jumped at the technology.
Honestly though, I think that it would be great to have Super-LCD tech from Sony. The visibility is better than the AMOLED and Super-AMOLED in sunlight, color and contrast are the same, and the battery drain is actually lower. Did I mention that the price was cheaper as well?
To be perfectly honest, I have a Novatech screen version and I am just fine with that. I would love a small PixelQi screen, but that hasn't happened yet...
Anyone know were to purchase a replacement screen? Mine is cracked and now insurance. Sorry if it has been asked before. Thanks in advance.

Non-Pentile LCD?

we'll.. that's the only thing that bugs me..
i can live with a locked bootloader,
i can keep suffering from the wifi disconnections
but that pentile matrix is really stupid. (why was it invented in first place.. argh!!~)
does anyone know about a 4" lcd i can get that will fit (size & connectivity) into the atrix with the same resolution (960x540) but NON PENTILE?
thanks!

EDIT: It's also worth pointing out that it's not the pentile aspect of the LCD that you should be complaining about. AMOLED screens are pentile too. Every time I see a galaxy s owner whine about the Atrix screen being "pentile" I want to punch them in the throat.
Yeah, the problem is actually the normal saturation of the colors, while the samoled has very saturated colors.

pretty much any phone that's not ours, or the galaxy-S gen of SAMOLED.
The screen is alright compared to the matrix that the galaxy s is using.. our screen is much brighter and battery efficient..
but what if there was a replacement screen which is full RGB stripe, wouldn't you take it?
I know i would... full rgb will make gradients smoother...
p.s.
I'm not hating the amoled but lets face it.. its over saturated.. natural colors on lcd looks way better to me.

of course most of us would take a full-stripe screen but they don't and never will exist for our phone.
not necessarily..
Apple made a "Retina Display" with a smaller screen size, means.. higher pixel density.
so we know the technology exists, maybe a full rgb screen will be available in the future..

Probably. On a different phone.
The display drivers are written to drive the current LCD in the device. The display hardware is built around it, it's not as simple as just getting a new LCD. Not to mention the fact the digitizer is generally integrated into the displays as well.
i haven't thought about it Ririal, you're probably right.
so.. it wasn't enough they locked the bootloader
they had to make everything else so complicated so no one will mess with it.. damn..

Fitment isn't the issue. You can't just replace the display, the entire device is built around the hardware. You'd have to build a new display SPECIFICALLY for the Atrix, from scratch.
i know what u mean, cable arrangements.. etc..
well, if it'll be working, ill figure out the rest
so ill be in touch with Moto China soon and we'll see if its not a pentile one.
and its not a big deal, and i'm not whining about it.. i'm just trying to find a better screen and hoping to find one.

it's not just cable arrangements. it's hardware. a pentile matrix is run by a different LCD driver than a standard LCD. that driver is most likely soldered straight into the phoneboard or baked into the processor. at that, the connectors for the two types of screens are probably different as well.
honestly you're going to get nothing but disappointment and frustration. these are not honda civics, you can't plug-and-play between phones willy nilly. i'm an MSEE and i would love a non-pentile LCD as much as you, but it's in all likelihood impossible.
you're absolutely right..
i just finished a phone call with a costumer service representative from Motorola China..
she didn't understood any of what i've asked on the regarding the display on the Moto XT882..
because she barely understand English and i've tried my best to make it easier & simpler for her
and yet, it didn't work.. she was very patient and nice but still.. it was a total waste of 25 minutes.
and although it was a total fail.. i think it was worth trying

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Nexus Prime will be a Samsung and is looking like an October release. Seems early since specs and pictures are still unknown, but with the Iphone 5 being released in Oct maybe Christmas will be early this year
Wow, can't wait. Coming in October? I doubt that as Nexus phones always come out just before Christmas. But the earlier the better
It's a shame it has to come with Pentile matrix though It will ruin the 'Retina' display (as 720p within 4.5" screen is 326ppi) as it won't truly be 'retina.'

I suppose, but it should be pointed out that the PenTile fringing pattern is much less distinguishable at a higher resolution. The Atrix at 275 ppi uses PenTile, but you really have to inspect it a lot more closely than a N1 or NS to see.

I agree but only sort-of. The 4.5" size of a Hercules or Infuse, I think that would be too big for me. But if the murmurs of a button-free Ice Cream Sandwich OS are true, then the screen can take up more of the phone's body. So we could get an Infuse-size screen with 720p resolution, but a phone no bigger than the SGSII. Maybe even smaller.

For some of us, it's not about metal being more durable than plastic, it's about the look/feel of metal vs. plastic. I don't like the look and feel of plastic, and I would even pay a hefty premium for the exact same phone if it was in metal (vs plastic).
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Actually now that I'm thinking it through more, the Nexus Prime screen couldn't possibly be the same dimensions as the Infuse, because of the aspect ratio difference. So imagine the SGS2 (4.3" 800x480, 1.667, 3.687x2.212") with the buttons gone, and the screen elongated an extra 0.235" into that space (4.5" 1280x720, 1.778, 3.922x2.206"). So not as massive as feared.

as for samsung's build quality, they have been doing some awesome stuff lately(Phones, Laptops, TVs) and with Cyanogen on their team, it's gonna be interesting!
As seen from the up in coming Samsung devices, Nexus Prime screen size is gonna be 4.65 inches.

Seriously. I love the size and structure of my N1. I've messed around with larger screen devices like the Evo, and they feel both unwieldy and less solid.
Really, I'd be thrilled to have something exactly like the N1, just with upgraded CPU/SoC (maybe dual core), more RAM and onboard flash, and perhaps a true multitouch screen. Ok, and maybe a re-worked power button. But really, that's all I want.
I don't need 3D, a huge screen I can't fit easily in pockets, gimmicky curved glass, or 7G radios that only last 90 minutes. I just want the N1, updated.
There's so much they got right with the N1 IMHO, it's hard for me to find something that I'd be willing to replace it with yet.

Right, but since the rumoured Nexus Prime is (I stand corrected now) 4.65" and also 16:9, it'll have to be 8% wider than the Sensation - but not necessarily taller due to removal of the buttons. Although some of that width could also come from slimming down the bezel even further, if at all possible.

You're not very visually observant if you don't see the difference between OLED and typical TV screen technologies. OLED kills LCD and plasma in contrast. Black is black. I actually bought an Amaze first, because the screen looked "brighter" to me in the store. But I couldn't stand the gray "blacks" that was much more obvious in low ambient light conditions. A few other things annoyed me so I swapped it for the GS2 and I am much happier with this phone. I've actually watched a few movies on the phone because the subtle shadow detail is so amazing on Super AMOLED Plus. This is why the big buzz from CES is the OLED TVs being introduced by LG and Samsung this year. I can't wait to see these TVs in person, although I'm sure I won't be able to afford one for a while.
I agree very nice phone, fast and beautiful!

Is it just me?

When I use my friends iPhones or any 720p phones they look very grainy to me. Is it just me or is it because I have gotten used to the QHD display on my G3? I used to think the iPhone screen size was ok...now when I use it it's like a toy, and I have a hard time navigating the screen ?
Also whenever I use the S4 it definitely feels a little more grainy after you get used to the QHD panel. Is anyone else seeing those sideffects. I think my perception quality expectations is out of the roof now...makes me wonder how people claim that a iPhone PPI is more than enough ?
Same here, every smartphone I am looking at looks kinda grainy, it's hard to describe...
The display of my mother in laws Galaxy core something with it's 800x480 4,3" display looks like a crossword puzzle ☺
Frankly even some 720P phones make the iPhone look grainy, the iPhone is one of the lowest DPI phones you can still buy, it doesn't qualify as HD by any definition.
Yup my other phone is iphone 5 and its sh*t compered to g3 my mother huawei g300 that is just ridiculous
Agreed, even the 1080 phones look quite quite grainy. The sharpening and variable quality screens ruin the G3 display though.

I know it makes me think what the hell are the iPhone fans thinking when they say that 300 PPI is more than enough or 1080p is unnecessary. Even the New iPhone 6 4.7 and 5.5 inch models won't have FHD. Totally will look grainy for sure.

Same here, every smartphone I am looking at looks kinda grainy, it's hard to describe...
The display of my mother in laws Galaxy core something with it's 800x480 4,3" display looks like a crossword puzzle ☺

Well yeah, I'm just talking about graininess
Not just you, I also have a Moto X and that screen just screams of pixelation.
I'm starting to see old image assets showing their true low definition in apps, live wallpapers, games ect. Luckyily this isnt a 4k phone or it might be more noticable, as is things will only improve for 2k and 4k as time progresses. I can really tell text has lost the jagged edges it had with my old 720p phone which is nice.
Wanted to add it will be strange seeing mobile devices pushing uhd more than most, remember the image quality android and ois started with?
You sure you're not looking at the S4 with one of those plastic screen protectors on?

Yeah they look perfectly fine bro.
Now what has me tripping is how can LG put a qhd resolution on the LG Stylus. That is such a 2010 resolution. I can't imagine what kind of PPi and grainy experience one would have.

When I say they look okay, I mean they look okay... Not fantastic or anything. I personally like the lg g3 display. It doesn't have that saturated look that Apple pushes with almost all of their displays.
It's more like a Eizo or Ben-q monitor. I guess you just have to work on them for period of time to appreciate it..
Some folks will dislike the output and some will make the necessary color adjustments to the device. I have colleagues who have looked at footage or hi res pictures on my device and they like the output..
YMMV

The S4 and G2 displays are sti some very nice displays buddy. R2member they are still 1080p display.
With the galaxy s series phones you can calibrate the screen really good. On my issue is screen burn in.
The g2 to me is an okay display. The s4,wasn't something I cared for display wise. I still have my G2. I never noticed screen burn in with my g2
I tried using my calibrator on my g2 and I failed!!
When the new devices drop, it will be the same issues. The iPhone will have glue issues like they always. People will complain about the note 4 display until a few updates come out, and people will talk about the moto's radio more than anything else. The N6 will be buttery smooth , and that will be the sticking point for most with each particular device..
Power consumption concerning the higher end displays will be interesting with these devices..

What's also interesting will be if these displays actually change after being used for a while. My tv needed X amount of burn in time before the calibrator came out and to my place and did some adjustments to the tv.
If anyone can expound on if that is the case with these displays that would be interesting to get some source material on and read up on the subject.

LCD displays do in fact cure over time. They just like everything else typically take time to burn in.
