[Q] Have i bricked my Arc? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys
Just come across some issues. When trying to flash the generic UK .184 firmware to my arc.
I got to the flashing stage and received this...
27/041/2011 13:41:52 - INFO - Flashing adsp.sin
27/041/2011 13:41:55 - INFO - Flashing kernel.sin

27/041/2011 13:41:59 - INFO - Flashing amss.sin
27/042/2011 13:42:13 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
27/042/2011 13:42:13 - INFO - Now unplug the device and power it on
27/042/2011 13:42:13 - INFO - Then go to application settings
27/042/2011 13:42:13 - INFO - turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging
Now my Arc won't turn on, any ideas how to get it back? Or is my phone gone?
Any help would be appreciated. Its a day old..
Regards

Looks like its the same as this thread... is taking it back my only option?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033541
cheers

Have you tried SEUS?

Will give it a shot and report back, installing it now... thanks
EDIT
Progress bar on install software has not moved, stuck in the beginning stages.

Is it possible to reflash the t-mobile ftf so it overwrites the files the generic ones put on to get it back?
Im guessing will need someone who as a t-mobile specific package (.181)?
SEUS also failed

Some people just cant leave things alone.

Yeah me neither.
So did you get anywhere with this?... I ask as I have the same problem. It gave the same error (even though I had set the debugging mode correctly) and now it won't do anything, SEUS won't work, etc.

Do you guys thing Omnius might be able to help?
I bought a licence from a reseller here in the UK - but not the first dumb thing I've done today, I should have bought one from somewhere on the West Coast of the States were people are still working! I don't know when that will arrive in my email but I guess not until tomorrow now.
Anyways, I tried flashing with 0.2.8 and 0.2.91 and with the 181 and 184 firmwares and I get different degrees of success but it's entirely unpredictable. Sometimes it just kicks me out, sometimes it gets 3/4s the way through, usually somewhere in the middle.
This makes me think there might be something up with the hardware. If it was stopping at the same place I'd imagine it was a software or firmware issue... But I'm no expert... obviously.
I get the triangle and the exclamation mark so I hope that somehow I can get the thing going again. Otherwise that was a damn fine waste of dosh.
Thanks in advance for any advice. Feel free to point and laugh.

No luck with me, still the same, tries to boot, but nothing on screen shows up.
Do you have a .181 ftf file? I can still get the device into flash mode, so im hoping if we can get hold of a t-mobile specific ftf, I can just flash it back and see if it boots.
Or can it be a generic .181?

Here's the 181 thingy It wont let me post a link but it's megaupload and the ending is this: LWBRPZFL - Or search for xperiablog and debrand in google and follow the link for firmware down the page.
Anyways... What do you mean flashmode? I'm either off or I got a triangle and exclamation mark. Is there a way of activating another message?
I've been reading other X10 threads and some have got the thing going but just keeping trying multiple times - which kinda ties into the length of time before it crashes thing I was thinking about.
The problem with this is that if it got to 98% and stopped, there's a fair chance that between this and the PSN thing, I might flash myself and go rogue hunting down Sony execs and killing them - and no-one wants that.

Lordy dordy it worked. Just keeping tryin dude. That was like my zillionth go.

Unfortunately, it still wants a code for my sim card. Thus 4 hours of titting about and thinking I'd killed the thing haven't really amounted to much.
Still, there's always tomorrow - and the MP3 player is effing boss.

Ok ill keep trying to flash the original .181 and .184. But i don't get anything, no triangle, I just get the green LED and vibrate during power on, nothing else.
Ill give it another shot. I did only try once. Just to confirm.
Have you now flashed a generic firmware on your carrier locked handset right? What i meant by flash mode was that I am able to put the device into the mdoe so it allows flashing, when using SEUS, it recognised my phone in the correct mode, tried to start flashing, but then failed.
Can you post the model of arc you have, etc, and what you flashed etc...cheers

When I successfully flashed it, I was using the latest version of the flash tool and the 181 firmware.
Honestly, I don't think that was it. I think you just have to keep dicking with it. I had just unsuccessfully tried SEUS for the second time. Again, I doubt that there's a logical plan. I think sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I still got to unlock the thing... And my code still didn't arrive.

Guys
All ok now, just ran it all through again on a laptop, using the generic 184 firmware. Used lates flash tool
All ok.
Thanks
Guess i should of done the obvious first...:-D

i have this exact same issue man! I tried SEUS and it says Cannot update becuase you have modified software installed. I Tried flashing with the 145 firmware and my arc is totally bricked in the exact way as yours. Just had a green LED flashing on the side when the charger is plugged in only.
Can anyone else help me with this issue pleasE?
Thanks

root error - aborted. now arc won't start anymore, nor flash. help me plz

I was trying to root my xperia arc.
i started flashtool, everything went alright. then error -aborted.
now phone can't start anymore, I can't do anything with it.
plz help me
You have to tell a little more to get the right help.
Bootloader locker or unlocked?
What firmware did you use when rooting the device?
What did you use to root, Gingerbreak?
i'm sorry
bootloader locked, never touched that
i never touched anything. I'm on 2.3.3, so I was trying to get back to rootable version.
its when i was trying to flash it to previous version that flashtool aborted. saying : power on go to settings and turn on ressources and debugging.
but i can't do anything with. It doesn't even start up.
thx
no prob, can imagine you're upset
did you try to flash it again?
How was your battery when starting in the first place?
Did you try to start up with power cable plugged in?
wow i just tried sony ericsson update service, and now the phone seems to start up.
the mistake i did i think is that i forgot to reinstall the sd card before starting to flash it.
as i'm writing this the phone is correctly working. so now was the sd card remove the mistake ?
1st option
I would say unlock the bootloader and reflash with the newest firmware, or you could just try this
2nd option
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
I had the same problem (but my boot loader was unlocked) and it sorted it out, I thought it was just flashtool but it isnt theres special files in the firmware folder that unbrick the arc, let us know how you get on. try the 2nd option first
If its working now then it was a semi brick, option 2 fixes them no problem, try reflashing if you get the same problem just use the 2nd option afterwards and it will work fine
@grat_master
dunno bout the sd card, but glad SEUS did the trick for you.
@yusuo
can you unlock your bootloader when the device won't even start?
anyways, things worked out, no need to do more i think
ok so now the phone is working correctly.
but i tried it a second time to flash with flashtool, and it did the same thing. flash aborted, power on go to settings and turn on ressources and debugging.
what am i doing wrong ? i'm following namaste guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
but it just doesn't work.
yes you can, you put it in fast boot mode (turn phone off, then hold back button and plug usb in while still holding back button)
If is still doesnt turn on after use the brick fix (option 2)
Seemingly others have had problems too..
Common reasons:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162492&page=2
And try running flashtool as administrator and make sure you have the lt15.sin in loaders directory..
Unlocking bootloader is good if you want to install a custom ROM.. But u void your warranty and loose DRM (If you care bout those that is..)
LT15.sin is already in loader directory
and I'm also running it as admin, I also disabled user control.
Which firmware are you trying to flash, the UK or HK version? Maybe it's a corrupt file?
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
i live in canada, and i'm using a rogers branded phone, samething as in the video of namaste guide.
i am trying to flash north america generic and world generic, neither worked.
Have you tried removing the battery after flashing, and then putting it back and then boot up?
Sent from my LT15i
it can't flash !
i am not able to flash anything, it stops before end and the phone remains in flash mode even if I deconnect usb cable. I can connect it back to pc without pressing back button and the green light is on again. that's after the flashing crash.
now the phone is ok, I can go internet, receive give calls, but I still have my sms problem that I have since beginning. I'm sending it back again to sony for repairs. HAHA I received it from repairs yesterday, and I got exactly same problem as before. I hope they change it. I think my phone is broken /end of story. Broken from beginning.
Anyway, I'm heading back to my Rogers detailer now to see what they can do again.
Thx for help. I'll try to root again when I get it back.
Okay, good luck, hope you get a replacement!
my service provider Rogers Canada is sending me a new Xperia Arc, should receive it in 3-4 days. As soon as I receive it, I'm gonna try root.
I'll let you know if it's working or not.
ok so i received my new xperia arc. now my sms problems are solved ! hourra
but i still can't flash it to root. It just don't want to do it.
what am I doing wrong ? I'll try a new ftf file. Can it be related to a bad sd card ?

Xperia play won't boot after flashtool

Okay, So have an xperia play here. I was using Flashtool to update the firmware on it.
A few moments later it popped up saying
08/016/2011 05:16:36 - INFO - Flashing system.sin 08/016/2011 05:16:47 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
It then asks me to disconnect the phone, Turn it on and then enable usb debugging and unknown sources.
The phone no longer boots fully, Just to an exclamation mark in a triangle.
Anyway anyone can give me some help here and guide me in the right direction.
The phone does have an unlocked bootloader and I'm pretty sure it can't be unlocked. At least that is what it said on the phone.

If you can remember your original firmware, try re-flashing that version by FTF (or use sony ericsson's update tool, "Sony Ericsson Update Service" I believe)

Just get that .ftf and try again, what's happened is you have essentially removed the system and overwritten it with a half copied system image thus the error.
With flashtool you get this sometimes, just keep trying until everything's completed

Excellent mate, Worked like a charm.
I kept failing a few times, But i noticed it was getting further on the progress bar each time.
So I got rid of the extension cable i was using and plugged directly into the computer, For the laugh and it worked and flashed fully.
Phone is now booted.
Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
Okay, I think i may have spoken too soon.
While the phone has booted up and is working.
The Sim card is not being recognised anymore, It just says there is no sim inserted even though there is.
Any ideas?

If your going from stock onwards I think there's an issue with sim cards . Take out the sim and micro SD card . Turn off phone . Put in sim card only boot up make sure sim is okay if not try again then put in micro SD turn off. Turn on... fixed it for me

Tried a few things like that but nothing got it working.
Luckily its not my phone and i only got it last week for a friend, So i brought back and they replaced it there and then.
Got the new one and rooted it, It's working perfectly now.
I'm a Samsung guy myself, So never had to deal with the locked bootloader crap. Damn you Sony and your idiotic rules.
So thanks Ff7fan4eva for the help, I really appreciate it

Some more info -
Flashtool says -
Flashing adsp.sin
Flashing kernel.sin
Flashing amss_fs.sin
Flashing fota1.sin
Flashing fota0.sin
Flashing apps_log.sin
Flashing amss.sin
Flashing cache.sin
Flashing system.sin
Flashing userdata.sin
Flashing finished.
Now unplug the device and power it on
Then go to application settings

But after the flash, it still vibrates every 2 or 3 seconds when holding the power button, and green light flashes, Black screen

Stuck in boot loop since flashing ROM

Hi
Really need some advice here. After (successfully) flashing ROMs on my HTC Desire and a couple of LG / Samsung units, I decided I was fed up with the stock ICS ROM on my Arc S so found one I liked called Jelly Sandwich v6.2.
So, I rooted, no probs, unlocked the bootloader, no probs. Installed CWM and did a nandroid backup to my SD card. So far, so good.
I then used CWM to install the JS ROM and the phone is now stuck on the SONY screen, presumably the boot is looping and I have to pull the battery to shut it back down.
I can't get it into recovery, tried every combination of buttons I can think of. I can get it into fastboot by holding the menu button and inserting the USB cable and if I do a CMD line fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version I get the expected response, but if I try adb shell I get 'device not found'.
I am rubbish at best with command line stuff but I think this is my only way forward.
Have tried flashtool and I get the phone into Flashmode but it finishes with an error.... 04/048/2012 00:48:51 - INFO - Ending flash session
04/048/2012 00:48:51 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed".
Have also tried SuS and that fails with an error along the lines of "The phone has got modified software that cannot be upgraded" or similar.
Anyone tell me specifically what to try? and exactly what I need to be doing with commands etc.
Would appreciate any help no matter how small

SORTED!!!
ok I sorted this eventually.
Tried everything I could think of and more besides (went through 100s of threads on here and elsewhere).
Eventually I went to wontanserver.com after seeing it recommended on a thread but it didn't work (forget the error but basically it wouldn't flash).
Then the battery died, left it on charge overnight but it was still dead so really thought that it was a hard brick.
Anyway, this morning, still very blearey eyed, I booted it into fastboot with usb connected and then the wotan tool didn't even recognise the phone, so used Flashtool to connect and the only command that would work was "Rebbot into fastboot mode (via Fastboot)"
Did that and the wotan flash tool started working, unpacking and flashing merrily along and a few minutes later the phone is back from the brink of almost certain death.
Don't know if my blurb will help anyone else, but it at least shows you should never give up :victory:

[Q] Z1C being identified as a wrong device (Z1)

Hey guys,
I've had my Z1C for quite some time now and have messed around with various ROMs and such and if I ever came across a problem, I would always find a solution for it online, but this time it's different. I've done a lot of searching already, and found some similar problems on the internet, but none of them were quite like the one I've got right now.
Okay, first of all, for quite some time now I've been successfully using SlimKat and only updating every couple of months or so (and yes, since SlimKat officially came out on Z1C, I've been using the official version). It all began when I decided to update to a new version today. I went to the SlimRoms website, found my device on supported devices list, downloaded the zip file, downloaded gapps, and flashed them following the instructions. I've done this many times before already and it always worked without problems, but this time after the flashing finished (which was successful), my phone wouldn't turn on. After trying one thing after another, I realized that at first this was a driver problem, then I found out that my Z1C is now recognized as a Z1. Then I went back to SlimRoms website, and check it out- after clicking on Z1C (amami) on the supported devices list, it directs you (at least it directs me) to Z1 (honami) download page. I didn't even notice the different name, because every time I did this I didn't have any problems. So that's my current story. I will now list all the major symptoms.
- After holding volume up + power button until it shuts off I plug it into a wall charger or a pc through usb cable, first I get a red LED for like a second, then a pink/purple one for a two or three seconds, then it turns yellow and stays that way (charging?). After a few seconds I get the ability to browse the phone's files, but the device is named 'Z1'. If I plug it in without force shutting it off, it goes straight into yellow LED.
- If I try to repair it with Sony PC Companion, it gives me an error that the device is running modified software. Obvious.
- If I plug it in with flashtool on, at first it gives me an error that it cannot be identified and gives me a list of devices to choose from and then asks if I want my device to be permanently recognized as the one I chose. But this doesn't seem to work, because it gives me the same error every time I try to do it again. And if I try to flash a stock firmware, I get an error ERROR - Cannot delete C:\Flashtool\.\firmwares\prepared\boot. Previously it gave me errors regarding drivers, but no matter how many times I tried to install them with the driver installer from flashtool, uninstalling the device through device manager and so on, it didn't help. But after something I did that I'm not very sure about, I don't seem to get this error anymore.
- If I try to turn it on, it vibrates once as usual, gives me the pink/purple led for a couple seconds and then nothing.
There might be something I haven't mentioned, so feel free to ask. Not sure if that matters, but I'm on unlocked bootloader.
I seriously hope there's a fix for that, not sure if my unlocked bootloader would help with a warranty repair.
I guess that's all. Thanks in advance everyone.

Man, thanks a lot! Worked like a charm. I was thinking about flashing something via fastboot because it seemed to be working, but I didn't want to mess up anything else before making sure it was safe. Apparently the solution was simple. You've got my gratitude!
