Is it true you need 'hardware' to root the Incredible 2? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Or is it just like installing a custom rom on any other smartphone?

Thanks broseph, that's what I wanted to hear.

Do not buy an over-priced piece of hardware to disable security. Just give it time. There will be virtually no development support until a free method is found.

To the best of my knowledge, xtc clip does not support CDMA devices.

same jcase from amazon? if so, pm me.

[Q] gingerbread root?

Only way to root is with XTC Clip and that's just temporary root. There are many devs working on it. IMO, it would take at least few weeks but who knows.
And always please use google or XDA search engine. There are already a lot of posts just like yours.

Playstation Network

Wasn't there an app released by Sony for PSN? I didn't really need it back then but now that I have a PS3 it sounds nice.
If anyone knows where I can find this, could you kindly direct me towards it?
Thanks in advance.

I never heard of one, it might be exclusive to the SE phones, specifically the xperia play.
I'd be interested in that as well.

There is one... I used to have it on my old fascinate, but I got a new phone. It's exclusive to Europe, but you can manually install the apk and use it anywhere. Once I get home from work, I'll post a link.

The app is tied to the EU PSN, so the US account won't work.

You sir, are wrong.
I used to have the app and was able to sign in on my US, EU, & JP accounts.
But ever since the great PSN hack, the app hasn't worked.

[Q] Does Verizon care about S-OFF?

Well, I getting a replacement DInc2 because of some hardware issue, and I was wondering that if they care if I am just S-OFF'd. I'm not running on any ROM's at all, completely stock rooted.
Would they charge me retail price for my phone if they see I was S-OFF'd?
Is there any kind of guide I can follow to get back S-ON?
Sorry, I'm not new at all to rooting, or replacements. It's just HTC phones I'm new to.
I sent back an s-off phone recently and they didn't do anything. Probably cause they never saw it. I'm not sure they would care if they did. If you used alpha rev then you can s on. Go to rootzwiki. Jcase posted instructions. Follow them to a T. If you used xtc clip then there is no way to s on.

Delete super user. I've never sent one back. But you want all proof of root taken off. So at a glance they will see it is stock.

Ohhh. And how would I do that? Titanium Backup?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Here is a little info. Before you do an s-on. Do a recovery to an original ROM that can have SU removed. If you don't have one I am sure someone has one.
Make sure when you send your phone back in to remove your SD card. The majority of root information is stored on the card.
If there is a RUU available for 2.3 then just flash it via bootloader after you s-on.

I cant imagine that they hire people to play around with each phone that gets sent back.
They probably inspect the phone for physical damage, see if it turns on, and plug it into a machine to wipe while they replace the casing, and call the phone a refurb.

+1 I returned my tbolt for an inc2 and the bolt was s-off just flashed the stock ruu. they do a total reset of the phone anyway. they don't care
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I concur they don't care. Long as you don't send it back with cm7 or something running you will be fine
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
Asked a guy that works for the phone replacement facility. Said as long as they can flash their stock software on it they don't care to look. It's when the computer can't flash and the phone has errors is when they have to dig into it and look for s-off
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
Even if you make a nandroid of the stock rom, you still need a custom recovery to restore it. Meaning unless you flash the ruu, your phone wont be stock

It does suck, but the incredible is an old phone by technology standards and therfore the geniuses who figure out these exploits have moved on to find ways to root the newer phones. However with some patience and persistence the method in the link does work.

One note, the guide on droidfiles.us, the step regarding the bootloader has the bootloader name missing a zero.
