Bypass Activation Screen - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Does anyone know how to bypass the activation screen on the HTC Droid Incredible 2???

if you try to activate, hit back make it fail. repeat for at least 3 times and it should let you skip activation.

if that doesn't work you could use cdma workshop

That didnt work.
Tried everything to bypass. No other ideas?

Something I found in a Google search:
When you get the screen to tap on the Android to start the process, tap around the edges of the screen, starting top left, then top right, then bottom right, then bottom left. Puts you into a different screen that ultimately allows you to work your way out of it.
I don't know if this works with the DINC2, but it did work for my D2G, and the link I found it at was for a completely different phone.

That didnt work either. I am not to sure why it is different from Motorola and HTC. It is still an Android Os. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO

Does it dump you into a different screen at all?

I cant get past the dial *228 to activate screen

You want the screen just before that. The very first screen. I'm getting ready to test on mine..

the first screen is the lock screen then it goes to the select language screen. then it tries to call *228 and it cannot activate because i am out of the country.

I see now. VZW activated mine when I was in store, so I didn't see this portion. It's different from my D2G. Looking to see if I can figure a way around it real quick.

If you could I would appreciate it alot. I have been racking my brain for days.

Does the phone try to do the activation phone call at all? I tried it three times, and ended the call all three times, and it allowed me to bypass activation. I can try to do a video if you'd like.

It does try. But for some reason it will not bypass. If your phone has been activated before then it works fine. But since i havent had it activated I cant bypass it.

Learn something new every day. Odd that it works like that. Sorry for getting your hopes up. Those are the only things I can think of.

The only way for anyone to see what I am talking about is to do a master reset on the phone. If anyone does it and it works please post a video so I can see what I may be doing wrong. Thanks to all that are trying to assist.

Master reset, as in factory reset? If it's different, and you can point me to how, I'll go ahead and do it.

The easiest way to do it is to hold the power button and hit restart. Once the unit is off hold the volume down key and a white screen appears. Factory reset is the 3rd option I believe so just use the volume key down and hit the power button. It takes a few minutes to reset.

Just sent you a PM.

Have to watch it later. Bad reception at work

[Q] Help, screen is broken & need to factory reset

I don't know how this happened because my G2 is only a month old & looks like it's brand new but the screen stopped working and there are vertical lines up & down it. T-Mobile has sent a new phone on it's way, but I don't want to send the old one back before factory resetting because it still has personal info, etc. So, basically I need the keystrokes for a factory reset.
Here's what I have so far:
1. Hold "vol down + power" to turn on phone.
2. ??????
3. Factory reset
Again, I just need the keystrokes here.
Thanks so much!
2. wait about 5-10 seconds, then press volume down twice, then press power.
Thanks so much! Unfortunately I won't be able to confirm. Too bad they don't have hdmi output so I could verify, but such is life.
Same Problem
Just wanted to post that I left my brand new g2 in my coat pocket a few nights ago and when I grabbed it out a couple hours later the SAME THING HAD HAPPENED.
Lines up and down screen. I could not figure out how to reset it. I went to TMobile and exchanged it for a MT4G, which I am really liking so far.
Anyone else experiencing this problem???
Yes, it was very odd to not have my screen working. I didn't get it wet or traumatize it in any way.
When I called T-mobile to request a replacement, they had me pull the battery & verify a white dot underneath was still white. I suppose that's the modern day canary in the coalmine to verify I didn't break warranty terms.
i saw this problem the other day, not sure what is causing it but the phone i saw it on was a "authorized" reseller for tmo and was going out of business

Help wipe my g2--blank screen

Can someone help me wipe my phone from recovery b/c i cant see anything on the screen but i do know the phone works and responds to touch?
I just need someone who can tell me exactly where to scroll in recovery to get to the wipe data/cache option.
Any help is very much appreciated
Unfortunately it may not be possible to help you navigate blindly because Clockword Recovery has a feature that places the confirm option among 10 choices to prevent accidental clicks. But from repeated tries it seems to come up in the same spot for me, so hopefully it might work for you.
So I can suggest that once you boot into recovery (volume down + power) and do the following.
- Press volume down 3 times and press trackpad, very very gently. Sometimes it registers a single click as two if you hold it for too long.
- Press volume down 7 times and press trackpad to confirm.
If it you select one of the "No" options on the confirmation page it will spit you back out to the main menu. So you press volume down 3 times, trackpad, volume down 7 times, trackpad.
Are you sure wiping your cache will resolve the issue you are having? It sounds like a screen defect or perhaps a resolution issue? Have you messed with your build.prop? If it doesn't work you may need to do some additional work from adb shell.
Thanks for the reply. I will try this as soon as I get back from class. I think it's a screen defect because the phone was working perfectly fine and when I came back to my phone after 10 minutes all I saw was a blank screen with the backlight on. I haven't messe with the build.prop. I have messed with the LCD density a couple times but I don't think that's what cause this issue. I just wanna try to clear all data I have on the phone so I can try to exchange it at a tmobile store lol. I know it won't fix the screen issue.
Thanks for helping. I'll see if it works. I do remeber that confirming wipe data and cache would also be the 7th option repeatedly.
Can you get into Fastboot?

Getting a "virgin" ROM backup?

Curious here...
Have a totally new, unactivated Dinc sitting here. Trying if possible to get a full backup of the virgin ROM on it. When I say it's virgin, I mean brand new - never activated, never even powered on until a few ago.
Since the first thing it does is walk you through activation, something I don't want to do, any idea how to get past the setup screens so that I can get USB debugging turned on so that I can get a custom recovery on it? Or an update.zip or PB31img.zip that I can get onto the SD card to bypass the need for USB debugging?
Thanks!
R
PS: If you wonder why I want to bypass activation, it's a phone that's bought as a replacement for my daughter for Xmas, so I don't want to tip my hand by activating it and subsequently nuking the service on her current.. And trying to save myself the trouble of doing all on xmas day. And yeah, I have other Dinc's here so I'm not totally clueless with them. Thx.
I had managed to get the since rooted and running a custom Ron without activating it on just wifi. Should work for you too. Just be careful if it's an slcd inc.

Thanks... Appreciate the response, but on power on first screen asks language, second wants to activate, so I can't get deep enough in to get the wifi info in nor turned on unless I can figure how to bypass the setup screens.
Like I said, this unit hasn't ever been on, so it's going through the setup that would normally be handled by Verizon before they hand you the phone...Not really a position that I'd expect that the majority of users here have ever seen.
And it is indeed an SLCD, but mine is also so I'm pretty aware of the hoops I'll have to jump through there.
Can't you just go ahead and skip all the steps and root your phone. Then go to recovery and wipe back to factory resets? That should work.

Ahh, I wish. No option to skip. You get nothing but activate or emergency call in the second screen. Back just takes you to the language screen.
pm me your esn ill activate it on pageplus, that way you can get past it then we'll deactivate it.
I did this for my wife's last phone though not a smart phone. I had to activate it at the store before leaving, as soon as i got home i asked to see her phone to "update the service" and started to tell her about the *228 ...new towers etc....
I didn't update the service just re-activated her phone so she wouldn't know.
Worked well for me and didn't ruin the surprise
Seems like you could just do unrevoked, power down boot into recovery and nandroid there.

He can't root because he cannot get past activation screen, to set up debugging mode.

Thanks slawson. Appreciate the offer.. but seriously rather than inconvenience someone I'll just wait until Xmas and do it then if I can't get past the activation screen some other way or getting into it with a custom recovery image. I'll still be able to get a pretty much virgin shot of the ROM, albeit it'll be an activated phone.
I was hoping to catch it in an unactivated state if at all possible, since I've found references by people cooking ROM's that a backup of an activated phone still has the ESN tucked away in obscure corners and subsequently isn't of much value - or at least can lead to potential issues if used other than on the phone it came from.
it's not an inconvienence just let me know other wise.
Can't you bypass the activation screen by pressing in the top left corner, top right corner, bottom right corner, then bottom left corner of the screen?

Naa, just tried it. Tough to do too with my fat fingers since the activate button takes the bottom right and the emergency button the bottom left

Wasn't, since I hadn't seen that trick and his post said start in the top left. Yours shows top right. My screen is different than the one in the link, but looks to be the same functionality
That said, Appreciate all for the input, but it's in the box and wrapped with paper, ribbon and bow now.. I'll attack it again on Xmas if anyone else wants to weigh in.

Pretty sure this is only for AOSP Roms, not Sense.
Hit the search key (magnifying glass) and type settings. It bypasses the setup menu

why are you trying to skip the activation screen?
You need to activate your phone for it to work. *228 and then follow the prompts. After that, the activation screen should not come up at all. If you still have problems, dial *611 and get Verizon to resole this.
I skipped the activation Efren by just hitting the hone button very fast then hitting the menu back an search buttons an the Google search came up an I backed out of that an it went past the activation screen. Not very specific but I'm sure you can figure it out.

Hi, I'm a noob in every sense of the word and even beyond. I got a Verizon A955 over Ebay and it seems I got skrewed because the phone has a bad esn, when I tried to activate it on PagePlus, they won't and when I tried to root or flash it I can't because I keep having this stupid activation screen asking me to call a number and nothing else. If anybody could help, I'll be forever grateful. And yes, it goes into Android System recovery however. Is there anyway to actually to bypass the problem by exploiting the "apply sdcard:update.zip" option? Just a thought. Thanks

[Q] Home Key Sticking, Phone Going Crazy

Hello All. I've used these forums many many many times and have never had to ask a question... until now.
I had/have an issue with my headphone jack, and watched/followed a teardown vid to take apart my phone to check if there was anything I could do to fix the issue myself before calling in the big guns. I did not fix the issue, put the phone back together. during the teardown/put back there were no issues, but once I got it back together the home key would not work. I rebooted, no help. I took the phone apart again, checked to see if I damaged anything- saw nothing. Home key still would not work... properly. It is randomly working, but not when I press it. Every few seconds, or every few minutes it will long-press on its own and bring up task manager. My phone is out of warranty, and i'm sure i cannot afford to send it in to be repaired. Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue? I know it's my fault and I don't care about the headphone j ;ack anymore. I just need my phone to stop randomly opening the task manager. I installed a softkey home button app just so I can get to homepage without banging the back button (which still works, as does the menu - the homekey will sometimes bring up the menu as well) a million times. I would like to fix the issue, but at the very least i can live with disabling the home key and using softkeys. will rooting help? right now i am backing up my stuff so that I can do a factory reset. If that doesn't work I will need some advice, and I know you genius' have a few cents worth. PLEASE HELP ME!
Thanks in advance.
Replace home key pad...
It's really the only proper fix for your issue...g
