Temp Root Question - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I am considering the DInc2, but really enjoy having root on my OG Droid (which is failing me). I can wait for permanent root, but was curious if temp root allows me to make the local.prop tweaks for home screen redraws, push ringtones into system, etc.? I realize I will not be able to use wifi tether for root or flash any ROMs yet, but those tweaks would be nice.

you can delete bloat, so I assume with root explorer u should be able to push sounds, i dont see why not. can anyone confirm this?
also, what is a home screen re-draw?

Moved to proper forum.

not sure about the homescreen redraw because i have no idea what that is. but you don't need root to push ringtones into the system. just make a folder in your media>audio folder on your sd card. if ringtones, throw the files into the ringtones folder and if notifs then make a folder called notifications and throw them in there.

A home screen redraw happens when the launcher and all its Widgets are consumjng too much memory. Coming from and OG Droid, this happened often with the limited memory on the Droid. When you return to your home screen a lag occurs as the phone redraws all the Widgets and icons on the screen instead of the screen just appearing.

I have my tones on the SD now, but I do not like the lag that a 32gb card can have.

[MOD][ROOT] Change default homescreen - TouchWiz 4.0

Hello,
There's a simple way for those who want to change default homescreen.
You have to be rooted.
So, you first have to download a file explorer that supports root, for example Root Explorer(paid, I use this one).
Then, go to /system and open default.prop with text editor.
Now, add this line:
Code:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3
Where 3 is the number of the default screen you want - 1. So default screen 4 => 3.
Now, just reboot and it should work. If you have any problem/question, feel free to ask.
At first: Sounds great! Thanks!
But:
Afaik (only from some (elder?) videos) it's possible to add and delete home screens. Could you tell me or try what happens if you set this var to e.g. 5 (=> default home screen is 4) but you only have 3 home screens at all? The same has to be considered if you accidentally delete the last home screen and this one is/has been set to default.
Worked perfectly! Thanks for the tweak was missing this feature from my past android phones.

Could it be made into a simple apk file?
Even easier - no root required
Sorry to steal your thunder -
Pinch zoom (helicopter mode) longpress & drag will do it.

Ian, the point of this mod is so that when you hit your home button, while in your homescreens, it will revert to the 4th screen. Normally when you are in your homescreens and then hit the home button again, it'll revert you to the first screen as default. This is the case even if you change the order of your homescreens using pinch to zoom.
Cool I hoped this was coming. Cant stand being on 1 as the home screen.
Thanks EleCtrOx666!
Works great.
If it is this easy to make the change I don't understand why Samsung didn't include it as an option in one of the configuration menus.

Just tried it: it will simply go to the last homescreen you have.

I'll see what I can do.
It worked great with root explorer, but not so much with ES File Explorer -- it does have a "root" mode, but it asks you whether you are using the CyanogenMod or the HiAPK rom.
For n00bs, like myself, it's also worth pointing out that you won't be able to edit the build.prop unless you click on the "mount rw" (read/write) button up at the top first. Afterwards, you'll probably want to click the "mount ro" (read only) at the top again.
Thanks a lot.

This works beautifully and something I've been pining for after moving from sense. Thanks a lot
I'm not an active Android dev. But isn't there a var you can call and just divide by 2?
Like:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen = ro.csc.homescreen.screencount/2;
Something like that? Excuse me if this obviously doesn't work, it was just a thought, as it would make it easier and won't require users to change that value whenever they change the amount of homescreens.
How did you find this setting? I'm interested if there are more useful settings like that.
hy EleCtrOx666
i'm a beginner in this so pls have a little patience with me.
I got a SGS2 and i'm interested to know if there's anyway to root the phone without flashing a custom kernel taking in account that u have this "nice" counter on the phone.
Very nice explained how to modif home-screen number.
is it here any way to get temp root?
hi sorry to be a pain, but i would love to be change my default home screen button, I followed the guide, and rooted my phone successfully (i think) and once superuser was installed I went and found the defualtprop file and edited it as guided by adding that line, i clicked save & exit (at which point it tells me it made a backup of the original file) then after I restart the phone it just goes back to normal, like I never touched the file...
anyone know where i'm going wrong?
Thanks, reminds me of my HTC Desire now with homescreen centred

This Guide explains how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
This doesn't work for me. I can't add that line. I've tried two different text editors and two root explorers (one with an editor built in) and they both say the file can't be saved. No other programs open. I restarted the phone and tried again.
Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks for the help via PM.
In case anyone else had my problem, it was solved by using Root Explorer. Click "Mount R/W", do the edit, save, reboot.
Works perfectly.

(UPDATED)Semi-transparent simple and clean notification and toggles

We need some variety and i was getting kinda bored with the phisher-price/blinky lights look of the toggles. Toggles are now simple and clean Ice Cream Sandwich blue. Notifications still appear in black backgrounds. I also got rid of the full battery icon that would appear in the top left corner when battery was fully charged i dont need that my lockscreen does that.
instructions
download file, unzip, put on sdcard, open root explorer and move systemui.apk to system, make sure you toggle ro/rw in top right corner, long press on it select permissions change permissions according to the picture below, now move it into the app folder, root explorer will ask if you want to overwrite the original click yes. Thats it exit root explorer reboot your phone
sorry for the long drawn out instructions i just dont want anyone to get lost. Feel free to use any of this artwork in what ever you heart desires.
Thanks! I really like this. The toggle icons look great and so does the translucent pull down.
The only suggestion I have would be to make the background behind the toggles dark. Sometimes it's hard to see them when the background is bleeding through.
Again, nice work.

Did you also remove the systemui.odex file? If so, that's the problem. You need to keep the odex file in place.
you seem to have 2 notif folders with the same systemui.apk.. ?

How to add images to my gallery from my computer to set as Lockscreen Wallpaper?

I'm having trouble adding images from my computer to the gallery on my OG. Is there a specific place I need to put them in order to view them and set them as my Lockscreen Wallpaper? I've tried moving them around on the internal storage but have had no luck. Do I need to put them in the system files or what?
Are they already on your device? If so, can you view them via the gallery? If so, open the image you want, then hit menu, set as, then lock screen.

In addition to the above, for organizational purposes, in the internal storage, find the pictures folder. Inside there, create a folder named Lockscreen. Place images in there. This is not necessary, but may help in locating the files more easily.

No, they are on my computer that I edited on "Gimp". I don't know what file to put them in so that they will be recognized in the "Gallery".

I know how to set the wallpaper I just don't know what file to put them in and in what format that would be best so that my phone will recognize it as a Gallery image.

After updating to JB, my lockscreen image is stuck too. I can only change to a wallpaper gallery image. I cannot change to any other gallery images: regardless of which image I choose or what folder it is in, it will not change unless it is a wallpaper gallery image. I select a new image, set it to lockscreen image, and the old image remains.
This is a bug.
After researching, it looks like factory loaded lock screen wallpapers are incorporated into the .apk for the lock screen. That's weird that you are having problems getting custom images to stick. I had never tried it before because I like the car wallpaper, but I just successfully changed my lock screen image to this:
I have the same issue. When I select a picture from the gallery and resize it reverts back to a stock locksceen image.

Ok, I placed the jpeg images in the DCIM folder and I also took a picture to see if it would show up. The picture showed up in the gallery but the images I copied to the file did not. CRAP!!! I don't get it. I'm running the latest "Lifeless JB" rom. I hope someone finds a fix for this soon.

I hate to ask but while the topic is still on Lockscreen wallpaper. I feel like asking a question regarding this.
Is it possible to have multiple wallpapers for the lockscreen?
By this I mean you have Wallpaper1 as a lockscreen. Then if you turn off the screen then when you turn on the phone again then Wallpaper2 will appear? Is this possible?

Not with "Lifeless" Rom at the moment. I would suggest asking the developer of the Rom to include it in the next upgrade or instruct you on how to do it.
However, I think I also remember seeing a "Lockscreen Launcher" app that had that feature but I can't be sure.
I tried installing images everywhere....still no luck. Changing it one time to a gallery image automatically changed it to my google account pic, WHAT THE HELL? If anyone else is having this issue I think it would be best to let the developer know its definitely a "bug", unless there's a genius out there with a quick fix.
i had to do a factory reset to fix my lock screen. its a nuisance but worth it to have my personal picture as the lock screen

Crap, thats what I was afraid I would have to do. Oh well, I guess any fix is better than none. I PM'ed the developer on this issue so maybe he'll come up with another fix one of these days for the Rom.

Widget problem ( i think )

Hi guys, I didn't see a thread like this so I thought I would start one.
I have a problem with the widgets on my GN: when i turn on the phone i get what you see in the pictures instead of the widgets. So I have to restart all widgets. Do you have ideas of what could be the problem? Can someone help me ? Thanks in advance

Most probably a launcher or widget problem
Probably one of two possible scenarios:
1) Your widgets are not compatible with your launcher. (what launcher are you running? what widgets are you trying to load?)
2) You moved the .apks of your widgets to External SD storage and now they won't load. Widgets should be stored on internal storage because they sometimes try to load before the SD card is mounted.

Another possibility is widget data corruption, try clearing the data for the affected widgets.

File Manager Feature

I noticed that this phone has a "Frequently Used" category when using the Stock File Manager. Is there any way to turn this feature off? I don't like it taking up screen space especially when I already know I use those folders frequently.
Anyone? :crying:
It does go away if you use the grill layout for the folders, that's the only method I know of.
