VZW Gingerbread? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Anyone have an idea when it will be released?... Theories? I am nearing the end of my 14 day return for my Inc 2 and noticed today that the X2 is supposedly going up for sale on May 26th WITH Gingerbread. Thoughts?

Umm have been reading on this and my question is why do you want ginger bread ? its just "Updated" version with nothing that is really new .

Are you serious? GB is significantly different from froyo. Better power and application management, NFC support, VoiP/SIP calls, SIP audio for video calling, better download management for HTTP downloads, new sensor support(gyroscope), audio, graphic and touch screen input enhancements for game developers, support for webm/VP8 video playback, aac audio encoding and bumped api's to 10 with more support for native code.
Not to mention the new skin for AOSP and the new multi touch KB. I'm sure I left out a bunch of stuff but that's what I can recall from reading. So that being said you should take a moment and actually do a bit of research before posting a response like that.

Okay true .. but I'm not freaking out like "Oh I WANT Gingerbread already" there is no point in begging for it .. its more like you will get when you get it.

But then again, it shouldn't be the case that we're still stuck on Froyo when Gingerbread has been out for so long already and Google has already announced Ice Cream Sandwich.

Again you guys need to research or have some actual information on the subject posted. GB is only running on a handful of devices (officially) and ICS will not be out for a while. So GB will come I'm sure, in its own time. So the majority of handset owners are "stuck" on froyo. Keep in mind any device with a custom UI is going to take longer than a vanilla device.

I have no doubt just a matter of when not if. And when root comes (ever the optimist) we will likely have even more choices.

I've read in many articles that, HTC said that gingerbread would come in Q2, Since the end of Q2 is in june, i don't see why we wouldn't get in then, especially if the first incredible is supposed to get it in summer. Motorola isn't going to let the Droid X get gingerbread before the X2, i don't imagine HTC will let the first incredible get it before the inc2

I would agree too, I think they are waiting to release the bug fixes like backwards maps in the GB release. Costs them too much to keep pushing out patches.

i have a sample inc2 device with GB 2.3.3 sense 2.1 (s/w version 2.09.605.1 baseband 20.27w.30.0811u_1.07.00.0507_3) loaded. This is not a mkt sale device but since I got it with that loaded on it i know GB will be coming to all when verizon finishes whatever tests it does. Also since it is so stable, i doubt that everybody getting GB is too far away.

Do we have any inkling as to what GB will look like and what flavor of Sense 2.1 we will get? The leak of GB for the Thunderbolt had Sense 2.1 with the Sense 3 notification pull down, but not the new lockscreen. The HTC Flyer is running GB and Sense 2.1, but the lockscreen is the Sense 3 style. I would love to get the lockscreen and the quick settings in the pull down.

I am all for this, but it would be nice to see it come as part of the update from VZW/HTC. If HTC already has it for Sense 2.1, lets see it on our devices when they get updated.

I've read that only dual core devices will get the full on sense 3.0 experience(officially). Maybe jcase or one of the devs in the know could verify this?

The gb version I see is similar to the version the bolt shipped with. It's sense 2.1. No lock screen goodies.

ok, i watched that without audio. looks no diff than 2.2 and showing off voice controls which we already have ti a point?
not impressed.
Video is old(1 week) and not supposed to show off gingerbread. It is showing the features of new google voice search. They just accidentally used a GB phone. And no we will probably not get many ui changes before 3.0.
I think that Google said the UI changes would come with Android 3.0,they never said Gingerbread. It's just that at that point we thought that Gingerbread was actually 3.0 and not 2.3.

And our Desire is considered as what device? Low/Mid end or High end?
Probably classed as a highend smart phone.
As far as i'm aware, the Desire won't be supported when it comes to GB. I'm guessing the guys here will figure it all out but it won't be official.
what matters is that we get it. and lets be fair here, the roms guys on this forum give us are better then the officials in many ways. - aesthetics, battery life, performance, options/freedom
i have a desire and am running a desire hd rom that runs very well. vanilla gingy will be <yawn> i think. the dudes in the dev forum will make it into something great, i don't doubt that

[Q] HTC Sense on Gingerbread ROM?

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a new custom rom for my phone, just rooted it... all gravy but fancy trying something of the things those genius chefs have been cooking!
I was looking for a Gingerbread rom with the HTC Sense style theme, but can't seem to find one; does one exist? I've had a look through the index and the developmnent forums but can only find Froyo Sense Roms. It's not a huge issue but it would be nice as I quite like the Sense layout and apps n' stuff
Also, any recommendations on roms? I think I'm going to try some of the gingerbead ones regardless of the htc sense(I like the sound of some of the enhancements) but wonder if anyones using something they can whole heartedly recommend, froyo or no?
Yeah, I would be interested in this too...
Not gonna happen, would need a complete re-write of Sense

Indeed. Try different roms and see which you like. Also, if you want different "styles" of sense, install a HD rom but it's still 2.2. Or you can just wait for 2.3 to be released for Desire which shouldn't be that long really.

To be honest, I much prefer Gingerbread ROMs and have found Ultimate Droid 3.0.0 to be the best so far.
On top of this I use Launcherpro, which contains awesome Sense style widgets for calendar/facebook/bookmarks/contacts etc.
See it here:

I also use Fancy Widgets with the H7 clock theme as this gives me the Sense style clock on my homescreen as well.

I've actually seen a photo or 2.3.1 Sense 'running' as it were so it exists but it's on one of the new HTC handsets. Whether we'll see it on the Desire is another matter
was it the new htc desire 2 ? ? cant wait for desire 2 to be released.. im sure it packages gingerbread with sense and full support for honeycomb !
Honeycomb is for tablets only. There will prob be something similar for smartphones later on, maybe 2.4 or 3.0, who knows. But no, Honeycomb is non existant for phones for now.
HTC desire S
with sense and android 2.3.2 and now??
search on the youtube this sentence:
"HTC Desire S Videopreview da Telefonino.net @ MWC 2011"
I have faith it will come out until mid-year has the rom gingerbread-Sense

2.4 has already been released, it's an update release from Google of 2.3 full of BugFixes. The Desire S will be released running 2.4, as will the HTC Desire when the new sense comes to it. Check out the thread I posted covering HTC's confirmation plans to update the HTC Desire range to 2.4. This includes all models of the HTC Desire released at the moment.
Also Honeycomb will be released for phones, just only phones that have Dual Core Processors, so thats every single HTC device at the moment out of that league. Hope I helped guys

Is gingerbread 2.3 officially out for the Desire yet?

I have tried numerous custom 2.3 roms but each one eventually causes me a headache in the end. I honestly do appreciate all the hard work going into these roms but unless somebody can point me in the direction of a 99.9% troublefree 2.3 I will have to stick to 2.2 for the time being.
no, 2.3 is not officially out yet, i know the roll out time in the UK as at some point at the end of the year (after all the naff branding the carriers have to put on them)
end of this month (or sometime in the next few months) is the most proposed theory at the moment.
when the official 2.3 release/RUU etc. comes out that'll probably lead to a few more stable roms IMO

The popular stock android roms out right now are very stable and if you do happen to find a bug, there's usually aa update within the week to fix it.
I'm running ReflexS 2.0.7 and it's actually running very fast considering that it's running sense. I'm running it with cm7 hboot but it worked great with stock hboot too. I find that you really just have to try a few roms to try and get a feel for which one works best with your phone and your needs.

I wouldn't bet on the end of may.
They have always been mentioning end of month but june, not may.
Its about time for the update to come out we waited so long now and all other models have gotten just do it already im sick of waiting.
Honestly, if you don't mind losing Sense, then AdamG's Oxygen and Devnull are top of the shop. Both updated now to 2.3.4 and as hack-free as possible.
DevNull is as plain-jane as you can get, I personally prefer the extended power controls and pull-down notifications menu on Oxygen.
I've been using Oxygen since the first 2.3 build (since end of February) and have had one restart in that time and no freezes.
I have it running with LauncherPro 0.86 and it is smooth, bug-free and has very good battery over Froyo stock. I hammer it with wifi browsing, couple of hours of mp3 a day and my office has terrible signal. I generally finish the day on 40%+.

Well, when the Desire came out at first it was the best Android device around.
Add to that Sense is the least bad of all the custom UIs out there.
And like me, they might not have tried an AOSP rom until after having a Desire for a while.

Will the dinc2 see sense 3.0?

Half the stuff I see says yes half says no. I one article said yes just a different variation of 3.0 . Excuse me if it's been addressed I'm new to htc devices all together but really like the stock 3.0 sense. I'm basing whether or not I'm giving my d3 to wife on this.
Well considering Virtuous Unity is the ROM ported from the Sensation I'd do ahead and sayyyyyyy yes.
Stock no because HTC said 3.0 is for hi-res dual core devices. Rooted yes Virtuous' 3.0 ROM is practically like using a stock 3.0 ROM for the Inc2. Speed and battery are excellent and match that of the stock 2.1 ROM. With that said if the decision to get the Inc2 is based off of 3.0 availability, then get it because 3.0 is awesome and 2.1 is great too. Either way you won't be dissatisfied.

Imao motoblur or sense. Simple decision. Phone that can be rooted or locked bootloader. A MOTO phone that's basically dead now that Google bought them.
Sent from my Incredible Sensation using XDA App
Well there really is nothing wrong with rooting the phone unless you plan on watching movies on the market. The nice thing about rooting is the freedom of choice. You can install a pure AOSP ROM, custom sense ROM, or hybrid all while knowing that the devs community is optimizing it for the phone more than what the manufacture would due to return on their investment. Honestly sense 3.0 is rock solid so don't fret about needing to root.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I am still unrooted. I may root. I may not. I have rooted three device and I can say that the Inc2 runs well as stock, unlike my other devices did (nook, d1, and fascinate). Runs fast and smooth with no lag and great battery. There is some pretty cool stuff going on in the development section, so I may eventually check out root, but it's not a necessity for me atm. Even Sense 2.1 has a lot of great features and crushes the new blur to pieces.

Just to clarify, last season's HTC devices get an ICS update in the form of Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6. This applies to the Sensation (all models), Vivid, Amaze, Incredible 2/S and even the Desire S/HD, along with a couple of others.
You won't see Sense 4.0 on any of these 'older' devices officially. It was the One series' drawcard, and it won't be officially ported backwards. That's what XDA is for
That said, I'm really impressed with performance increases on the Sensation, Vivid and Amaze from the ICS update. Usability of Sense 3.6, especially the Launcher, is greatly improved. You should get a good little boost out of the official ICS when it arrives.

most likely they started working on the older devices later, and by then 4.0.4 was in aosp id guess
given that htc updates on the same os version so frequently, id imagine the evo 3d/sensation/rezound will move up as well
some of the msm7x30 devices on gb at points had 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5, and 2.3.6 (dont think any of that chipset ever saw 2.3.7)

Jayydude glad you got you a dinc 2. I ended up sending the guy that gave you his blackberry for free the batteries and charger I had offered to you for your x2 when you had problems. Him and his son was happy. You should love this phone over the x2. I am running the M5.01 ext4 and really like it. Also flashed the 3.0 patch to get the sick lockscreen. Some sick widgets and awesome battery life.

I just got it and hr ago, sadly they just sent the extended battery ( free ) today so I can't use it until tomorrow. But that's true no Sense 4.0 just 3.6 :/ But hey any add on to ICS is amazing to me. I love sense But I'm going to flash sense 3.6 + ics rom, beats audio + xloud patch, capacitive button fix, touch recovery, and etc. I wish I could get the on - screen htc version of the ics softkeys and disable the capacitive buttons + lights that would really be cool ^_^
