Trying to find a particular screen cover. - Thunderbolt Accessories

My protector had a slight 'scratch' on it, and in my annoyance, I went to replace it with one of the two remaining in my VZW/HTC pack (luckily not on the real screen though.) Crap managed to slip between the screen & protector on number 2, and number 3 had residue on the screen side, even though the dual-cover was still on it correctly.
I dropped by VZW to buy more, but instead of getting whichever version I had before, the rep gave me some anti-glare ones in the same packaging. I hate them. Every pixel looks like it's shining through frosted glass, and it's ruining my movie/tv experience.
Catch is, I never wrote down the type of protector I had before (it was glossy and easily reflected light,) but didn't degrade the image while using the display. Does somebody know the type offhand?
Or, even better, can anyone recommend a better protector if one exists? $16 for 3 tiny sheets of clear plastic seems like highway robbery.

I've always used the cheap generic ones on eBay that come from Hong Kong after having a surprisingly good one on my PSP.
Though you run the slight chance of running into a seller that has the low quality screen protectors (I've had a coworker that received some that had light scratches immediately, as you're running your fingers across it), it's still a relatively cheap gamble (less than $5).
The good ones are scratch-resistant, do not take away any quality from the screen, and are barely noticeable. The only downside, they pick up fingerprint oils VERY easily. If that bothers you, have a microfiber cloth with you. IMO they are on par with the Steinheils.
I bought mine before the Thunderbolt's release (to prepare for its arrival!) for $3.80 for 6x screen protectors. They're still within the same price range.

Those are the best screen protectors I've ever used. I have the ultra clear one and I can't tell that it's there. And it's super smooth!
It does get pretty fingerprinty though and I've heard good things about their "anti-fingerprint" line. It's worth a look if you care about that kind of stuff.

If I'm more interested in preventing fingerprints what should I get?

The anti-fingerprint ones are matte. They have that frosted look. Personally, I prefer ghost armor or ZAGG over the stienheils. It's because I like wet application though so I don't get crap stuck between the screen and the screen protector.

Use that link and order the ultra fine screen protector. It's the yellow one and is anti-fingerprint. The way these screen protectors feel are fantastic. They're super smooth and glide very easily. Comparatively speaking, the zagg shields IMO are sticky. I also feel weird getting my phone wet to put on a screen protector. Just me though....

Took three tries and a slight trim of the long edge, but 3 ANTI GLARE Screen LCD for Samsung Captivate Galaxy S off ebay gave me what I want: a bubble free matte screen installation. item #380262378182.
Thanks I going to order from ebay
You don't NEED a screen protector.
The Samsung Galaxy S has Gorilla Glass from Corning.
Check a torture test here (on a Dell Streak, which I also have - but it has the same glass) and tell me if you really need a lousy plastic sheet on your beautiful screen.
Check out the gorilla glass website. The got a pictireo of a gorilla with its arse up in the air kissing a pane of glass LOLS

FWIW, My phone hangs out in my pocket all day, every day, with keys and loose change etc. I have zero scratches on the glass and the naked glass feels much better than any screen protector IMHO.
Don't get yourself all worked up over choosing the "right" screen protector. Just buy the 3 pack from at&t and call it good

Steinheil protectors are fantastic -- only ones I've found that don't leave smudges and fingerprints all over. (They do dull the screen a bit, but since the amoled screen is too bright to begin with, that's not a problem IMO.)

Look at it in the sun at an angle so it reflects the sun off the screen, you will see lots of micro scratches. This is on both our captivates. Sure, they're not "SCRATCHES" like the usually unsightly ones, they are just micro, or super thin.
Just because it can handle an impact doesn't mean it's scratch resistant. Personally have used the Phantom Skinz protector in the past and am currently using the Realook protector now. If you like the slight rubbery feel of the "skinz" type of protector you have plenty of options. I used the Phantom Skinz because it seemed to have the least orange peel look. After exchanging my captivate for another one (I had the random shut down issue) I used the Realooks static style screen protector. I prefer this one since it's almost nake glass feeling and I can totally say it can take a decent scratch. I got a nice dent from a fall off my desk onto a barbell that dented my chasis and also nicked the screen protector but no scratches. Best thing is you get 2 so if one gets farked you still have a spare. Best screen protector is one you will use and be happy with.
It still scratches even with the Gorilla Glass. Not big scratches, but they are visible at certain angles - it may or may not bother you.
I've used two types, SGP and Realook. Both are highly regarded, and from my experience SGP doesn't have any rainbow effect like Realook, but Realook has a much more natural feel. Both are excellent.
i took off my screen protector a couple months ago and i sometimes regret it. theres a few scratches on the screen but you cant really see them unless you hold the phone at a specific angle in the light. it doesnt really bother me that much. it is kind of annoying having to clean the fingerprints though.
I have invisishield its great only paid twenty for it with a lifetime warranty you I've had mine for about 4 months and it has yet to get a scratch and I even took a knife and scraped it across the screen surely no scratches but in the end I guess it is all up preference

Dont mean to hi jack the thread but is there a way to clean a screen protector? I was installing mine and it slipped out of my hand. I have tried using scotch tape to the debris off of it but I cant get all of it. Any ideas????
Invisishield
I've had the Invisishield on my phone since late August. I just recently had to exchange that under warranty and the Invisishield removed easily and installed easily on the new phone, no air pockets at all. Still looks like the day I bought it.

possible one of the WORST things to put on a phone's screen. Especially a touch screen phone with one of the best glass and screens.
The invisishield and all others LIKE IT offer nothing but horrible viewing and use. The cover often resists your fingers movements, your fingers often drag on it and the smoothness of glass is all gone and replaced by a crappy rubbery and not to mention GRAINY protector.
Surprisingly, the only thing close to being clear, and smooth is the cheap stuff on ebay. I've used them and they offer great protection and are cheap enough to change out every month. I no longer use one.
for what its worth I got the BodyGuardz protectors when they were on thanks giving sale.
It does not feel like the glass, given, but i almost feel like i like that it gives just a little resistance to my touch. it does have the slightest orange peel effect but you can only see it if its off and at an angle.
Its not perfect, but I like it especially since I have a bit of OCD and it would drive me crazy if i got the smallest scratch on the screen. This gives me piece of mind.

you're better of with these. They're clear and dont have the resistance you feel with other rubbery protectors. I'd use the ebays ones before anything else, especially if you are OCD.
At $1.57 for 3, you can change it every month if you want, but I've had good luck with them in the past.
I got gadgetshieldz they cost around $6 for full body protection. Worked for me, they are quite nice easy to install and quite good in performance. A word of caution though the it took 20 days for it to get to me in Canada.

Maybe not for fear of scratches, but one is definitely still desirable to help keep the buildup of various gunk on the screen down. All of those skin oils from fingers and the side of one's face add up over time, not to mention if the user has makeup, hairspray, hair gel, or any other number of products that get on the screen. If all of that isn't promptly cleaned off, it can become increasingly difficult to remove.
I'm considering picking up an Incredible 2, and if I do, I'll be picking this up:
http://www.amazon.com/Seidio-Ultimate-Screen-Guard-Incredible/dp/B004XC6LMM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305296213&sr=8-2
After years of using every type of screen protector known to man, I've found Seidio's to be some of the easiest to apply (and reapply if necessary), they don't reduce the "feel" or touch sensitivity of the screen, and they last (the packages typically come with two, but I've never had to replace the first one I put on). I used them on my Droid X and currently have one on my Droid Pro.

I will take a look at that one thanks. I agree I feel like a screen protector is worthwhile just in case. I removed the zagg though and am using the one that came with the otterbox case now, which has a texture nearly identical to the bare screen. I didn't like the slight tackiness of the feel on the zagg.

Don't know about this phone, because I've only had it a couple of weeks. But based on 16 months experience with the original Motorola Droid, I'd give the screen a quick huff of breath to provide a little moisture then wipe away with a microfibre cloth. I could polish that sucker until it was like brand new with only a little effort. After 16 months that Droid screen is still as smooth, slick and damage-free as the new Inc2 screen fresh from the box.
If you want a screen protector go for it, but I seriously can't see any need or benefit.
I originally had the VzW screen protector that came with the "starter kit". It was an anti-glare style.
I hated it. It was only as big as the LCD so it did not cover the buttons or the top, etc...
The anti-glare washed the screen out IMO.
I ended up ordering the Seido ones bsweetness mentions above - I could not be happier!
Currently have the one from VZW that is the anti-glare one. Probably the same one nayr and others have had. I don't have any issues with it, but I may be a bit more forgiving I guess.
Never used a screen protector on my Eris. It never had a scratch on the display. It was very easy to give it a quick wipe if needed. I had used keys on my Eris' display to show people why screen protectors really aren't all that better than a bare display.
The tempered glass on the I2 is much better than what was on my Eris. I still don't use a screen protector. I've taken a blade to the glass and it wouldn't scratch. It's easy to wipe off. No special cloth or cleaner required for typical use. Occasional cleaner might be needed with rough use.
Nothing will protect your display from a drop. That's my only worry.
I use Seidio screen protectors for my DroidX and my wife's Inc2 and I have been very happy with them
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/spm1htncs.htm
It's so clear that I don't even remember that I have a protector on sometimes
I buy the 2-pack just in case, I still haven't used the second one for my DroidX
Realook is hands down the best screen protectors i've used. It's too bad that they don't make it for the inc 2 yet.
They're completely invisible when applied, they feel exactly like the glass. I ended up purchasing the zagg invisible shield even though I hate how they "stick" when you try and use the phone. Although it gets better when you use it over time.
I think i'm just going to do without one untill a realook is available. Those things are the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to screen protectors.
Zagg InvisibleShield. 100%

I feel the same way about skins, but that has me reconsidering. Take a good look at the edges of the raised areas though-where there are seams. They're easier to see in the silver version, but I think it would look better in the black...
Sorry this is a little off-topic
I have a full skinomi carbon fiber skin on my gTablet and it worked out great. So, I decided to get the skinomi screen protector for my Dinc2. It turned out HORRIBLE.
Skinomi sent me replacements 2 separate times and each one was defective. I tried out the Clarivue screens and I'm really happy with them. They stick extremely well and are like glass. Yes, you have finger prints but doesn't bother me.
clarivue.com/htc-incredible-2-screen-protector.html
SGP just released their Inc2 films. Sadly only UC and UF. No UOptics or UOleo. Seriously considering it just to make the metal/glass edge not as steep...
I just received both the anti glare and the crystal boxwave protectors after a lot of deliberation. to those using the verizon antiglare protectors who are afraid of the rainbow effect of ag screen protectors, don't hesitate to get the boxwave antiglare. The rainbow effect is barely noticeable. Very happy with these protectors (enough to actually post in this forum).
When I had my D1, people always asked me how I kept my screen safe. I laughed, mentioned gorilla glass, and then pummeled the screen with my key. The look of horror on their face was priceless, almost as good as the amazement when I showed them that the screen was fine. That's why I never understood the whole rugged thing. I mean, my little buddy was a champ, and all I used was the standard hard case Vzw gave me. Of course, I haven't tried that with my Dinc2 yet, seeing as I've had it less than a month, but I can imagine a similar result. That hasn't stopped me from getting a screen protector this time around, though

my previous post said i like phantomskinz. well the one for my tab arrived bent in the mail and didnt apply very good. i contacted phantomskinz and they would not replace it. they wanted pictures of it installed. so i sent them pictures and of course you cant tell that there is a huge streak (where the bend was) right thru the screen because of the glare.
They never replied back to me after i sent the pics. anyways, i went ahead and ordered a bodyguardz for my tab.
Do you mean a full body protector or just a screen protector? I have an SGP UltraOptics (which is the matte antiglare) and I absolutely love it.
The screen degradation because of the antiglare properties, while there, is *extremely* small and I feel that my video consumption hasn't diminished at all. However, reading in a coffeeshop, during the day, by the window and (gasp!) reading outside are both things I do frequently.
Lastly, there is little to no "grip" when sliding my finger across the screen. The smoothness and feel is impeccable.
So yeah, there's my endorsement.

What this guy said. I'd say the optical degredation isn't better or worse than other matte screen protectors - ok, maybe slightly better in bright light or very contrasty environments. I'm a big fan of having no resistance when I drag my finger across the screen.
I will say that there is an odd "zipping" noise as I drag my finger across the screen. Not a deal breaker, but definitely unique - I've had matte screen protectors before, but none that have ever done that.

Best screen protector if you enjoy constantly wiping fingerprints off... but, it's well worth it. Zero orange peel effect!

can you elaborate on the "enjoy wiping fingerprints off" ??
was that a typo, or does it really make the fingerprints worse?
still debating on which version to get.
I had the Zagg full body one on my iPod touch, and my old LG DARE, and both did a wonderful job of protecting.
They did yellow badly and it is not that smooth of a surface, but with those small of screens, it really didn't matter.
Now, with my thunderbolt, I have a SGP, and it has stood up to me since March, and only now is it showing its age. I have a spare in he box that I have been meaning to put on sometime.
For smoothness, steer clear of Zagg, that bumpiness will mess up your Angry Birds game.
To add to this thread ...
I had a MyShield screen protector (supposedly it's almost the same as Zagg) and it seemed to protect the screen well but I had a few problems with it:
1) The screen was a bit "sticky", it got better with use but still noticeable
2) Many and easily seen fingerprints
3) Fingerprints were hard to wipe off
4) If you put one of those "stand" cases - or really anything that holds the tab in a tight grip - the protector started to move/peel off at places
Now I have a SGP Ultra Crystal and the screen is MUCH smoother, while there still are fingerprints etc. they are much easier to wipe off and most importantly - no danger of messing up your screen protection when putting one of the cases on or off.
So I'd definitely recommend SGP for tablets.

I didn't manage to find any. But you can get a good deal on ebay, you get a genuine product and the shipping is almost free (I think it was 2$ for me).
All in all it cost me 24$ (around 18€) and it took about 2 weeks for it to get here. Seems like a good buy for me

I love the Zagg texture and feel. I have one on my iPod Tough and Thunderbolt, and just bought one for my Woot Galaxy 10.1.
Hard plastic clear protectors are OK but I don't like their lack of feedback and grease streaking.
I had Zagg on my SGSII. I removed in couple of days due to stickness. I hated the feel of Zagg. I have XtremeGuard on Tab 10.1 and I like it very much. If I'm the only one using it, I wouldn't put any screen protector. But I have a young daughter, I don't feel safe to leave it naked.

Atrix screen protector

I've been considering getting a screen protector for a while now. The problem I have is my hands sweat very badly (gross I know) and then the touch screen on my phone goes crazy from the water on the screen. I have never had this problem with any phone I've had before now. I think it is because the Atrix touch screen is more sensitive than any other phone I've had. I was wondering if a screen protector would fix this problem and what some good brands were to try. Thanks
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You should always have a screen protector on any smart device you care about. One grain of sand in your pocket can ruin your screen (and your day). That said....
A screen protector will likely NOT fix your problem, as water (sweat) registers as a capacative touch. For a screen protector to "fix" the registration of sweat, it would have to also "fix" the registration of a desired capacitive touch (finger, stylus, or otherwise).
The only manner in which a screen protector could help is if you could find a very hydrophobic one (the repells and beads water), though you would still need to soak up that water with your shirt or a handkerchief or something. I'm not sure they even sell these. Google is your friend, here. Use keywords hydrophobic and/or water-repellent. Good luck, my friend, and let us know if you find anything interesting!

I tried few of a kind and decided to go with Otterbox Defender case which has a transparent front panel.
Refurbished case is about $20-25 and as good as a new one.

Water repellent spray wouldn't work because the screen protectors are vinyl or polyurethane and are not absorbent. Those hydrophobic sprays only work with an absorbent material like cloth or real leather.

That's what I was talking about. It works on car windshields so it should work on a screen protector right?

only one way to find out...!
I have to disagree with the statement that you have to have a screen protector, we have gorilla glass! I have never had a protector and my screen looks great! As for this situation, a protector that has a little rubberized feel might work well. I would read reviews on Amazon and buy the one that people complain the most about it sticking!

FWIW, my wife has been w/o a screen protector since April and I've been with / without one on and off since June.
Still not a single scratch on either phone, however, without one the screen is too smooth, so I'm thinking of going back installing one.
Hope this helps...
I went without a screen protector for a few months. I took the phone outside and noticed TONS of very fine scratches. You could only see them in direct sunlight, but it bothered me enough that I got a screen protector shortly thereafter.
I was thinking to buy a Vikuiti ADQC27. Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have to second the rec for the Otterbox Defender case. Having the screen protector built in is pretty awesome and in my experience, it has withstood all kind of liquidy stuff on it and plenty of goopy stuff as well. Like those technical terms?
It hasn't hampered my touch screen through various roms with various sensitivities and my glowing review hasn't even hit all the protection benefits it gives.
Best part? I got mine for about $10 'used' on ebay and while the silicone part was a little loose, a quick email to Otterbox got me a free placement in the mail without any hassle.
I haven't used one myself, but if they make one for the Atrix and if it's what you are really looking for, Zagg stuff has made some of my friends really happy.
You should look into a Matte one where is almost smudge free
altho it looks slightly foggy and scratch easily, but its worth it
make sure u get like a few togehter on ebay so you have backup ones

Can you suggest any brand? Something like the GreatShield Ultra Anti-Glare (Matte)?
I have one on mine, steinheil (SGP), while the protector gets scratched its better than the screen getting scratched.
Can't really tell the SGP ultra crystal protector is on the screen either, other than the few scratches that are on the protector now. Comes with 2 in a package if you get them.
They have an oleophobic one that is suppose to be oil resistant, maybe that one might be ideal? The ultra fine is their matted one.
If you look at the product on their webpage the 'Select a Color' changes the type of protector they have (took me a min to find the different versions they had when I looked again).
Last while the corning glass is tough, with a vickers hardness of 622kgf/mm2 in the unstrengthened and 701 in the strengthened stuff is pretty impressive.
Spec sheet for the glass can be found from corning's site using a google search, made me curious to check it.
While pretty hard something as simple and common as sand can scratch it which has a vickers hardness of about 1000....
Keys, lighters and the like are unlikely to scratch it though as unless its hardened tool steel its hardness will likely be below 650, an edge on a tungsten ring could probably do the trick though.
Anyhow I keep one on my phone, though maybe not really necessary I'd rather have a scratched screen protector than see the glass get scratched.

Zagg and Skinomi are quite nice. I like the Skinomi on my tablet maybe even a bit better than the Zagg on the Atrix, but the difference is very minimal. I'd say the Skinomi may slide slightly better than the Zagg, but you're splitting hairs.
I agree with BeakHill. SGP is great except they scratch easier than Zagg. The Ultra crystal is so clear that they don't even have a cut out for the front camera. The Ultra fine is their matte model and it is good and smooth, the crystal is nicer IMO..
The problem with SGP is they spoil you to the other brands, and they are more expensive.
ive always put a total body skin on my phone in addition to a case

Yet another scratch! What's generally considered the best screen protector?

This phone apparently has the most fragile screen of any phone I've ever used, and I've already gotten two deep scratches on it just from being in my pocket alone. I'm usually a huge fan of keeping the phone naked, but this is unacceptable. I'm willing to spend at least $20-$30 for a very good screen protector that will stay in place. What's the consensus?

I have the ultra nano optics anti fingerprint from sgp. Used their screen protector on my old epic 4G and it lasted me the full 2 years with no issues. So fat so good on this. Dry, easy application. The also have a wet application one and a curved one.

If you really want a clean phone, you can try the new Spigen Glas.t screen protector. This protector made by tempered glass and with not scratch easy. Cost around 35 USD but looks great on your phone.
yeah check out the glass protectors, there are a few brands out there, youtube videos look very convincing. I got a glasszone one coming from ebay (haven't seen a review on this one yet).

I've heard that some of them cause problems with the proximity sensor.

That question will get you tons of differing opinions. Here's mine, lol.
The Skinomi is really good. I've had them on tons of phones throughout the years and I think they've gotten better. Never had them discolor. My first ones had some orange peel but the one I just installed on my S3 is REALLY nice. No peel. I'm very pleased.
Best part is it's $3 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084F4HY8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
For 3 bucks, you can't go wrong in trying. If you dont like get the more pricey options. Doubt you will.

It's almost as if Samsung used a subpar glass on some models. My wife ended up with a good scratch on her screen after a few days, and we have no clue where it came from, she had been super careful with it and never had anything else in the pocket with it. I am currently using a Zagg HD screen protector (honestly cannot tell any difference compared to their old protectors). I have considered trying out one of the glass protectors as I love the feel of the naked screen, the Zagg has the typical silicone screen protector feel to it, but I deal with it because I want my screen protected.
well the only scatch i have its a dot on my home key.
and plastic border,
so unless u put ur pants with a bunch of pointy nails , or sand. it shouldnt scratch that easily
I too have a zagg hd on now and do not like it. Seems to peel up on the sides a few times a week. So are the glass ones good to go? I had read some reviews......I believe it was droid-life that said that there were dots or grids in the finished product?

I bought a Skinomi when Amazon had it on sale for $0.99, and I can't recommend it.
CONS:
1) It's an annoying wet-application that takes a few days to dry, and for all major bubbles & imperfections to go away
2) Even after it dries, a few splotchy imperfections & minor orange peel will remain, but it's not visible with the screen on.
3) It feels RUBBERY. Compared to SGP's smooth ultra crystal, skinomi is just tacky as hell.
4) It peels up at the edges over time, especially with TPU cases, but not so much with hybrid cases.
5) Fairly thick: the home button is flush
PROS:
1) It's cheap-ish
2) It's nearly full-coverage
I guess the thing I hated most about it was the tacky friction feeling as I swiped my fingers, but after it built up a layer of grease, it got better (and after you cleaned it with microfiber, went back to tacky-as-hell). Just wasn't smooth-as-glass enough for my tastes, compared to SGP.
I'm currently using the new-version SGP Ultra Crystal... and my single gripe with it is that I know it's not supposed to be full-coverage, but, it could've been made a little wider. As-is, it's almost exactly as wide as the black part of the display, so you feel the edge sometimes.
