Theme Touchwiz? - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Quick question guys...i know a lot of you hate Touchwiz and usually just swap it for ADW, Zeam, LPP or the likes but from watching different videos i dont think its that bad.... apart from it looking slightly iphonish and a bit too colorful...do you guys know of any theme that makes it a bit more focused in terms of colors? For instance i would like to see the 4 buttons at the bottom in one color rather than four different colors...that would make it a bit more professional in my opinion...does this exist?

biggest problem in my estimation is no landscape mode, and no alphabetical sort.. hopefully someone will fix this.

I've uploaded the update today, give it a try!

latest version is 1.4.2 with updated date of 13 may, so it says in android market. According to the reviews doesn't work in touchwiz 4 on the galaxy s2

still am getting this error msg. " cannot access TouchWiz database."
this is with TouchWiz appSorter..

I don't have this phone although I am planning on getting it. Can you explain more about what is and isn't supported in landscape mode? It looked from some of the videos that there is an "auto rotate" option? Can the phone dialer etc be rotated?
Thanks in advanced,
James

Yes, autorotate exists but dialer and launcher don't work in landscape... they will stay in portrait as most of TW apps
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

Are there any mods for TouchWiz?
I would also like to alter the grid for alternate DPI. I found a launcher.xml config file in the TWLauncher saved prefs folder, but I don't have a list of valid settings.

Newest version of touchwiz sorter now works thanks. Now we need a version that auto rotates and has clear backgrounds

The reason i would stick with stock is after watching countless videos with different launchers i dont see any that runs as smoot as touchwiz and i like the widget resizing...its a bit more intuitive than that of AFW, LPP etc...correctme if i'm wrong

also the way the music widget works when locked is nice..
although the display on the older froyo sgs was even nicer.

I have a question. Is music widget on lockscreen working with other players? I mean for example AMP Player? I really would like to use AMP Player, but I need to change music fast from lockscreen. Or is there any way how to do that?

Launcher with 4 icons

Now I've looked long and hard on this one. Thoughout xda and any other site that is similar. But to no success. So I ask...
Where and/or how can I get a launcher that has just 4 icons in its dockbar?
The touchwiz one is slow and the homescreen is locked on the first screen "iPhone" style.
ADW launcher and its EX version have been updated to not allow the old "secondary AB settings" anymore.
Launcher pro cant do it period
And the open home launcher is too difficult and I cant pay for it. Used up this weeks app budget.
So I need a launcher that has 4 icons in its dockbar. The new MIUI.ADW launcher has it in its settings but I dont like the scaling and size of the app icons in the drawer and homescreens.
Any help please?
And I mean 4 icons as in similar to touchwiz. Three changable apps and one app drawer icon.
Well you could set up LauncherPro with only 4 shortcuts in the dock. Just leave one of the spaces blank.

Yeah but that makes it appear disorganised. I wan one that's spaced the way the toucwiz launcher is spaced. Go check out miui for adw launcher in the market. Some Guy managed to alter it to use only 4 icons in the dock. I would just use that one with a different theme, but the icons are blown up way too much.
Download launcher pro icons via the market you can change the appearance of you dock 100%.

So you can make the just 4 icons (including launcher) appear evenly amongst the entire dock? There will not be an open space where an icon should be?

I don't think so. I just tried LPI and didn't see any option of making it have what you want. I didn't play around with it too much though because I wanted to uninstall it within the 15 minutes so I didn't get charged for it.
I know what I suggested isn't what you are looking for it was just a thought. You might want to check out this themed version of LP though. It comes with icons in the first 3 dock spaces, then the 4th one blank and the app drawer on the far right. Doesn't look too bad actually.

It does look nice but its not quite what I'm looking for. Does anyone know a way to mod the Adw launcher to have 4 icons in the dock?
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher.miui&feature=search_result
I tried this launcher for a few minutes but I cant get the icons to scale properly with another theme. They all look blown up.
Why not just use ADW Ex with no Dock? This would put 4 Icons on the bottom row and you could make one the app drawer. I am not sure if free ADW has the option for no dock, but I know for sure the Ex version does. I think this way will give you the best most uniform look available.
Live home... but havent found it in the gb market

Why dont you flash miui, if your rooted obviously. It has 4 changeable dock icons that seem to be what your looking for. I personally like it, except it has no app drawer if thats a deal breaker for you. I dont mind it.

[Q] What launcher do you suggest?

Hey guys and girls this will be my first android device and reading up on all the apps and widgets is a little daunting.
So this is the question : im going to be changing my dock icons because they remind me to much of my current Iphone 4, So i need a launcher?
What launcher does everyone suggest i try out and why?
I dont mind paying for a launcher just as long as its not to buggy or a memory/power hog.
Thanks in advance.
i'm going to go for LP Sense:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fr.clockwidget.lpslatesense
runs great on my Hero...just need to get a SGS2
why use a different launcher off the block.. try the new twiz 4 launcher that comes with it first for a while..
I personally like ADW EX i like the swipe animations and the overall feel of it on my EVO. I have seen it run slowly on lower power devices. The level of customizations that are available to the user is amazing. And you can get it for free in some Roms. Thats how i stumbled upon it. It has several ways to anaimate screen swipes. But if you want a true 3d effect try shell 3d. I dont know of a way to get it for free but i did try it out for a while and it was pretty cool, but it even felt kind of slow on my evo.
Ive gone with slide screen its beautiful, how about a lock screen, this drag the background thing is so poor

That's weird, it's flawlessly smooth on my Galaxy S 1. However, if you're using a live wallpaper then the transition into the app drawer (and then scrolling through it) is stuttery.
Apart from that, I'd throw my vote to LauncherPro too, especially if you buy the Plus version.
Reasons:
- Easily resize widgets and change homescreen grid sizes
- Virtual looping of homescreens (get to the end and it'll flick back to the farthest, no need to scroll all the way back)
- Homescreen transitions (instead of boring sideways scrolling can have 3D flips or the widgets rotate away)
- 'Plus' adds lots of extremely handy smooth, scrollable widgets almsot identical to what HTC Sense provides
- These widgets have now been made theme-able as of the latest update
- Can use in landscape or portrait
- Scrollable dock (scroll through 3 docks of 5 icons each)
- Dock icons and background can be changed, so my icons look like WP7's
- Can set an action for swiping up from any dock icon (eg: touching Internet icon launches the browser, but swiping the Internet icon instead displays a list of bookmarks!)
- On my Galaxy S was smoother for me than ADW

I just want to see my wp clock wallpaper and have the weather show like the clouds and the rain and thunder but not see the widget? if you cant ill settle for picking a small widget?
Thanks again for all the replys guys they are helping a tone.
Also what launcher has more icon themes ?
Launcherpro for me. Smooth as silk, really quick and it just works...
Launcher pro is not as smooth as before with sgs2. it was better on my htc desire.
I have been using AWD EX as not being able to change the messaging for Chomp SMS on the touchwiz was driving me mad. But I am getting cronic lag on switching screens. Not all the time. Just often enough to be anoying. Reading what others have been saying, I can only assume we need to tweek the phone a bit.

It does if you use MCR with landscape capable ICS launcher.
I don't like the ICS launcher so I've been using LauncherPro. I'm surprised it works since it hasn't been updated since May, but it's been 100% smooth and stable. Since it's abandonware, I just hope someone else releases one with the swipe action on the dock icons before LauncherPro stops working.

Do yourself a favor and try out Nova Launcher. It offers all of the benefits of the stock launcher (hardware acceleration) and even the same layout and style of the app drawer and home screen but adds so many additions such as changing the number of rows and columns, changing the number of home screens, landscape mode, adding more icons to the dock at the bottom.
+1 for nova, stock ics launcher with all the needed little extras

i personally hate having icons/widgets on my screen. i want it kept clean. instead, i use launcher pro and just rely on the 3-page dock at the bottom of the screen. i wish there was a launcher that was just a dock system and allowed you to make all the docks you want.
p.s. i also like the "hidden apps" feature much more then what other launchers offer.
Launchers
So I'm super picky about my phone (Crack Flasher), I have tried a few here is what I have eperienced so far.
Launcher Pro (Was my fav on past devices)
- runs sluggist compared to the ICS launchers, its not really bad, but you don't have the smooth feeling you are now used to on the SGN.
- Has landscape and lots of other goodies
- Will return to this if they upgrade it for ICS to run silky smooth
BRD Launcher
- Runs good, but because you have to use PPI moding it's super annoying when you want to install items or update them
- Couldn't get the landscape to work
Going to try Novo next.
I'm hoping it works with Landscape. I hear that you're ROM has to support Landscape for the Launcher, but this doesn't make sence to me since Launcher Pro works landscape no matter what.
I'll update after I try Novo Launcher...

Update:
I wish I would have tried Novo first.
- Landscape works perfectly (you can shut it off if you dont like it)
- Runs Smooth
- Lots of options
- Can remove search bar
- Grid is super customizable
- Can Hide Icon lables
There are plenty more but you get the point. So far best launcher for ICS on my Gnex.
FYI: Tested all of these on GummyNex. LTE

How many of the great layouts there do you think were created, or even possible on Stock Launchers?
I read this thread and installed Nova Launcher. It is a really nice ICS launcher, the best ICS launcher and one of the best launchers out there. Only reason I really got it was because of the landscape orientation. Google messed up there.

Real estate

Screen real estate to be exact.
Noob question engage:
What is it called when I want to add more horizontal "lines" to my screen. Is that launcher size ie: 3x3 or 5x5 or like that?
Would resolution change effect the same result?

Just as a word, if you are running full-stock or full-stock rooted, touchwiz only supports 5 icons on the dock, and up to 4 rows of icons.
Should you wish to aleviate this problem, you could install a ROM that has tweaks to allow more.
Alternatively and to a easier extent, you can install an alternative launcher such as the ones bellow from Google Play.
Nova Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Free, Prime version costs 4USD, but is well worth it. Install Teslaunread if you go with the Prime Version (Unread counts only work on the Prime Version). Also Project Butter enabled, and highly performance driven, and to boot allows you to define custom themes for icons, and for the interface. (Believe me, I bought the Prime Version, its well worth it just for the speed alone)
Go Launcher:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex
Free, Themable, and has quite a number of features.
Adw Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adw.launcher
Free, there is a EX/Pro version for 3 USD, and ADW Notifier seems to be its unread message counter
Apex Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher
Free, has a paid version with more features for 3.99 USD
Changing the resolution wont change the amount of space you get in a Launcher to the best of my recollection.
Also if you use an alternative launcher to allow more rows/columns, the Touchwiz Weather Widget, along with all other Touchwiz Widgets will not work or be usable on other launchers, because they rely on the Touchwiz framework to run, and alternative launchers don't have that because TW is closed source. Your dialer, contacts, menu, and everything else will work fine though, just the Widgets that will be unusable.
I hope I too have been of some help.
You have indeed.

yes root is required, various apps then deal with full system dpi change ie- ROM TOOLBOX which has an array of tools and is suited to newer roms, some older apps mess up jelly bean build.prop and cause boot loop so take care with the app you use.
for more control over individual app dpi just install the XPOSED FRAMEWORK and once installed go through the list of available modules that are downloadable from the main xposed app and look for APP SETTINGS module, you get a much better level of control similar to the way paranoid android roms let you change individual apps.
enjoy.

This is what I did currently.
I modded the lockscreen, so that music widget is transparent and (more important) those annoying white grips at the side, when you turn on the screen, are gone.
The Launcher is Nova 2.3beta with semi-transparent navbar, plus I modded the SystemUI.apk for semi-transparent status bar and swapped Back/Recent buttons.
Widgets are Anton's Kalender Widget, Gotasks (with heavily modded app and transparent widget) and Eye in sky weather.
Setup of Nova is no-Dock and 7x5 grid. Background is FiveWallpapers from market with 4 different pictures for 4 homescreens.
