[Q] Clock App Issues - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

This is going to seem petty, but it is something that really bothers me. The clock app does not show up in the app drawer. The only way I can access it is by doing a google search. Furthermore, when I long press the search button do do a voice command, one of my favorite functions on my rooted eris was that I could tell it to "set alarm" for a time. When I do this on the Inc2 however it tells me that in order to use the "set alarm" feature, i need to download a clock app from the market that supports that feature. Is anyone else having this issue, because if you are, this is some mad poor integration. However if I just got a botched Inc2 I have no problem picking up another one. If this is an issue, we should write HTC, because it seems very weird to me that the app doesn't even show up in the drawer. Love to hear what all of you brilliant software tycoons have to say about this.
Capcoward

if u have the stock weather widget on ur home screen and u press the clock and not the weather part of it, it will bring up the app to set alarm. I found it odd that there was no "clock" app as well in the app drawer. kinda pissed actually.

I was thinking the same thing about not having the "Clock" app in the drawer. I remember when 2.2 was coming out and the video kept showing the guy using voice search to set his alarm. Then when it actually came out you had to download a separate Clock that allowed you to do it. Kind of lame actually, but hopefully we'll get gingerbread soon. But I'm hoping the phone gets rooted before then. :: fingers crossed ::
I found the original article from Droid-Life about where to download the clock app that makes this work:

(Q) Start menu equivalent.

One of the things I miss most from winmo is that, on WinMo, you always can access your 'all programs' drawer from the notification bar/start menu. You could use your phone heavily all day and only see the Home screen once.
I've searched high and low for an Android equivalent, but find nothing. Anyone know of anything?
Closest I've found is multitask manager, it attaches to search button, and let's you put preferred apps in it, but you can't put 'launcher' or 'rosie' in it.
Anyone know what I'm trying to describe? Or have any suggestions ?
Thanks
Also, I just realized this is probably in wrong subforum, toast or MOD, feel free to move it. Thanks. Sorry.

i am not sure the question here. are you saying you want it so that you have to go to the home screen to launch the app draw or are yous aying you dont want to have to go to the home screen to launch the app draw?
I am not sure what you are using but i dont have to go to the home screen to launch app draw. also you may try playing with launcher pro you can set up the dock to have apps on it. i use a combination of app organizer and launcher pro. I have the favorites group mapped to my dock and then i can favorite apps and get to them from that dock button. Works well for me.
I think you can set up the Power Strip app to show your app drawer.

He means he wants a universal way to access the app drawer from anywhere. In WinMo, the start icon / app drawer is always on the status bar.
Yeah, awardtour, you nailed it. Thanks. I see i accidentally used a double negative in my OP, making it confusing.
Yeah, i want to be able to launch my app drawer from the notification bar, or search button (any 'button' that is always present).
I use adw EX and LPP a lot, but have never found a way, within android, to acheive this functionality. If anyone knows, please share. Thank you.

I'm not sure of the name, but I'm pretty sure there's a gesture based app launcher on the market (or maybe here) somewhere that allows you to program a gesture to a app launcher so no matter what you're doing you can swipe the gesture and have an app menu come up. I'll see if I can find it for u.....

Hell, without even using the wave aspect, if you just hold the hotspot for a sec (to launch wave) it'll automagically open app drawer! !!!! Pure awesomeness. Just thought I'd share and thank.

Sence 2.1 Question

After upgrade I seem to have lost the clock and alarm functionality of the home screen clock widget. It opens weather when I press the lower portion of the widget but nothing happens when the upper portion of the widget is pressed. It use to open the alarm and timer functions. But nothing now. Is there a way to restart this service. Please help.
Thanks.

I have the same issue and posted about 3 minutes before you ;-)
I just tested the alarm functionality on my phone and it works fine. I also tested the widget and the top portion opens the clock app and the bottom portion opens the weather widget. I also removed the widget and re-added it. A couple of questions.
1) Did you do the OTA update and was your phone a stock non-rooted phone or is your ROM rooted?
2) If you are rooted, have you tried doing a full format (format & erase, wipe dalvik, manually wipe system/boot/data, etc) and then reloading the ROM?
3) If you are on a stock ROM, have you tried doing a factor reset and see if it was just a bad install of the OTA update. It can happen. Software isn't perfect.

Or you might even want to try removing the widget and putting it back again. I know sometimes it can act funny especially if you installed a ROM and did not re setup your home screen from scratch.
Stock OTA. No root. Tried restarting widget. Still no alarm, timer, etc...

Same here. Stock phone upgraded OTA. Widget no longer links to clock app. In fact, the clock app is no longer listed in app screen. Thought that new App Market downloaded from BGR may have been to blame but after uninstalling update the widget still does not call the clock app.

I may be on to something here regarding the broken Clock/Alarm app...
Go to Setting > Applications > Manage Applications > All and scroll down to the "Clock" app. On my DINC2 w/GB, the Clock app is grayed out whereas the other apps are all listed in bright bold white. I checked the entire list and ONLY "Clock" and "CityID" are grayed out like this. There must be a connection, no?

Good eye! I also have this issue and have Clock app greyed out. On the other hand my CityID isn't greyed out and does indeed work. So I believe there has to be a correlation.
After my OTA the clock alarm worked great!
I then installed Beautiful widgets and then gentle alarm and now i can't load alarm when i click the time, i have to load it from a different widget. weird.

More info:
This is what my DINC2 reports for the Clock app:
version 1.00.000.081006.605
Storage 0.00B (for all three Total, Application, Data)
Cache 0.00B
Launch by default- no defaults set
Another user on another forum whose clock app still functions reports that his cache is also zero, but his storage is different for all three, total being 596KB (app 420KB, Data 176KB).
It looks like the clock app just isn't there for some reason.
just clock the numbers on the weather app on the homescreen. brings u to alarm.
I bit the bullet and did a hard reset. Ugh. Still rebuilding but the clock app is working again.
How to do hard reset. I know stupid question. Just don't want to screw anything up.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I did the hard reset and spent the better part of the day reconfiguring my phone. The clock app did indeed work again. Until I did a battery pull. UGH. Now the clock app is gone again!
I called HTC and they said they are aware of the issue and patch will be forthcoming.
To those thinking about doing a hard reset, you may want to wait since the first battery pull you do will break the clock again.
MY sis' phone started doing this crap after the update...I thought she was just being dense....now I feel bad for doubting her. What idiots let a key function of cellphone like the bloody alarm clock get screwed up? I mean that's something most every single person uses almost daily...and none of their people caught this? It's also making her doubt having gone to an android phone...as she never had a problem like this with the old dumb phones...her last one got ran over by a tractor and still worked minus the broken interior screen. But all key functions still performed flawlessly(again minus the screen) lol.
Think I figured the clock problem out. Had widget locker installed, got tired of it and uninstalled it. Clock function is now back.

Glad yours works. No Widget Locker here and no clock app either.
Mysteriously enough, yesterday the Clock app reappeared in the app drawer and the clock widget started functioning again on my DINC2!
I had updated and installed a few apps yesterday which may have triggered a fix perhaps?
Updated the CNN app
Added GateGuru
Added Priority Pass
Don't know if this is now resolved permanently, something tells me it will only be temporary, but thought I would report this.

Voice Actions and Widget Locker (ICS)

Hello,
Since this phone does not have a physical search button it is kind of difficult to get the voice actions working quickly.
I am looking for a simple button widget, that I can add to widget locker, to provide a way to use a voice action quickly from the lock screen.
For some reason widgetlocker doesn't have this built in, and I can't seen to find any other form of widget to get this done with the default ICS voice actions.
Anyone got any ideas?
problem is that there is no voice search app on the galaxy nexus.
so theres no way for any shortcut or widget to actually access it. closest thing you can do is link to google search and then press the mic button. it's incredibly annoying and one of the first things i noticed with the phone.
there might be a way to do it somehow with a custom shortcut app, but since anycut doesn't work, i don't even know what app to use to try. maybe someone can reply here with an app that does that.

Well car-home doesn't seem to work for the nexus yet, that would have been an acceptable workaround. It is just not feasible to hit that tiny search button while driving
nope absolutely not.
the best advice i can give you, is to download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speaktoit.assistant
you can setup a link to that in widget locker. it has a much larger mic button and uses the same voice recognition. it sometimes has issues with calling, for example, if i call my girlfriend i have to say her full name and mobile or it won't call, even though mobile is set as the default.
in it's defense, using the icon on the home screen does the same crap. it doesn't understand my girlfriends name well since it's Carolyn and it keeps thinking i'm saying Caroline. which is stupid me cause Lyn and Line are pronounced differently. but okay enough *****ing about that.
anyway, for now i think personal assistant is your best bet, and it works perfectly on ICS. only exception being custom avatars get really small, but i've contacted them and they're working on a fix for that.
also it has IMO, the BEST voice for any app available on the market.

You don't have to go inside the search bar and then hit the mic.... All you gotta do is hit the mic from the home screen and it'll get you to voice actions. In ways its quicker than before with hardware buttons...But then at times, you can easily go into type search and sometimes it won't go into either search at all.

yeah but his situation was with driving. he wanted to be able to go from the lock screen directly to voice, and that doesn't work in ICS. But the assistant makes it a little easier since it has a larger button and is at the bottom where you'd unlock the phone.
I'd like to see a soft-key mod to add search and "long-press to voice search" functionality.
Jeannie is really good and I think the paid version you can shake the phone to wake it

If you are on a custom 4.0.3 rom , then you can actually have this. For example, using zygote, runandhide has created what is named the 5 soft key mod. It makes the softkeys be menu, back, home, multitasking, then search. If you long press the search, you can pick voice search.
I highly recommend droid theorys zygote romantic, it's so smooth and has great features and a great community backing.

If you're referring to my post, I apologize.
What I said only applies to the CDMA Zygot3 rom by DroidTheory, but there may be other roms that have this. Over on Rootz, another use has created several softkey mods that work with the Zygot3 rom.
There are softkey mods that do add either a menu button or a menu and search button to the softkey bar. The search key that gets added does allow for a long press, allowing for voice search/actions to be chosen.
Long story short, find a rom that has softkey mods similar to the ones seen here and you'll achieve what yo desired.

That sounds like a feature worth switching to a custom rom for. I wanted to see how I liked a vanilla stock phone the way Google intended... its my first Nexus. I assumed that the roms would have a few kinks in them. What would you recommend? I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I have tried aokp, cm9 kangs, and have been sitting on droidtheorys axiom (formerly zygote). It's pretty slick and he updates fairly regularly. Check it out on rootzwiki. I may also try aokp or rootzboat just to check out the customization.
In terms of kernels, I haven't found one I love yet. Imoseyon has been doing a good job, tempted to try faux or Franciscofranco. They're all working to get correct undervolting though

I agree with this. This should have been configurable in the stock OS. I missing being able to kill an app by holding the back key on CM7. I'd prefer to stay stock on this phone, and haven't found a good reason to even root it yet.
I'm not even sure I need the search button if we could map whatever we wanted to the current button's long press.
Back - kill current process
Home - Voice action
Task Switcher - App drawer? System Search?

[Q] Unlock Screen Slider for Google Voice App

Wondering if anyone has a solution to unlocking the screen the way we do with normal SMS and MMS but for Google Voice notifications instead. It would be nice if it didn't require a separate app, more of a tweak or hack is what i'm looking for.
I attached the bubble i'm looking for. An ICS solution would be best

If you're referring to "Davis", that would be the City in which the weather is displaying. The option to display the weather on the lockscreen is in Settings-Display-Weather (Check mark it).
Oh okay so no way to put names on the screen

I'm gonna go ahead and ask, what ROM is this?
And also, I've tried this before on other ROM's, to find solutions to sliders for certain apps (like GVoice) and sadly, all the times I've went researching, the only way to get them was through Widget Locker, or some other locking utility. But anyways, good luck mate.

Using V10 Second Screen App Shortcut for Quick Popup Widgets

Using the app called Popup Widget, I'm able to quickly place any kinds of widget directly on the second screen, since we can easily move back and forth app shortcuts from the second screen and home screen, but that mainly applies to the stock launcher only, tried with Nova, but didn't work. Anyways, here's a video showing an example of creating widget and placing it into second screen and works fine.
https://youtu.be/mX-diQEANw8
The app is called Popup Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.
Credits @klark1kent for the idea of implementing custom widgets on the second screen using Zooper and Tasker apps. If you want, you can head over to his thread in the link below for an in-depth guide using Zooper Widgets
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/themes-apps/screen-custom-app-icons-widget-t3269726
Update: So, I've created a new video that actually allows you to add more icons/shortcuts to the second screen. So take a look over at the link below.

The app is called SiMi Folder Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.

The idea was actually from your thread, so got to thank you for that idea that you actually came up, and I was looking around for other alternatives instead of using Zooper and Tasker, and Popup Widget sort of solves the issue for me. And also having to place any kind of widgets on your second screen really helps in situations where you wouldn't want to get kicked out of other apps, let's say if you are messaging and you want to quickly see some new tweets to freshen up.

That's exactly what I said in thr original thread. I used popup widget also but hey I'm happy you liked the idea and clearly I didn't create a guide initially because I wanted to get it out to the community as soon as possible anyway I agree the options are endless... The only thing about just using popup which I alluded to in the other post is that it wasn't working with other launchers and zooper allows you to create your own widgets and add them to popup instead of relying on system default widgets. Let's keep the innovations coming though but yeah I was surprised you essentially jacked the idea with zero credit. Thanks for making it right

As those are LG-based Widgets, which is lockdown only to stock launcher, Popup Widget can't recognize it as a proper widget, only universal ones work.
Hence sadly it's not possible to actually get those into the second screen.
