Birthdays - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I have noticed that when I view Birthday information for my contacts via "People", this birthday data comes from Facebook btw - that all of the Birthdays are off by 1 day when I compare it to birthdays listed in the Facebook application.
Anyone else having this issue!?!?

I have not had this issue . So sorry can't really help .
I would try going on HTC Sense Facebook account and remove the account if you are still having issues.

Noticed it with my Exchange accounts.. Although, now that you mention it, maybe it is FB that's showing it..

I can tell it is FB for me because when I click on a contact in People and scroll down to Information, where the Birthday is shown it has a little FB icon way to the right.
But very strange - exactly one day less than actual Birthday data in FB.

I can confirm this as well.
Posted from my Droid Incredible 2

I am seeing the same exact thing. The Facebook birthdays are all 1 day early. Exchange synced birthdays are correct.

Good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. It sucks cause when I show off to my friends how integrated it all is to their Facebook/Twitter, the first thing they'll say is, "Umm, why is my birthday wrong?".
Hopefully we'll see a fix soon.

Everything seems to be fine in the actual calendar app, but not when you view it under "People" (Contacts).

Hmmmm, all of mine are correct in there as well....

Facebook Integration question

Hello there
I have one little question about the integrated facebook contacts with the phonebook contacts
when I associate a contact it takes only the photo for 1-2 months ..
I already tried a several roms with different manilas (2.1 & 2.5) but everywhere is the same, the association downloads only the photo of the person, but in the past it takes and the birthday which is very useful I think.
Does somebody know whats happening, and is it possible to configure it again to takes and the Bday info. Thanks a lot.
Regards,
patzkata
Yes,it happens to me to. When I click Update Now on all the contacts, only photos are synced. It used to be able to sync everything. What has changed?
my touch pro will be here Thursday, so though I can't help with your issue, a possible temporary solution would be to use booksync.

Yes, may be this works, but HTC offers the same thing which was already imported in the HTC contacts app. I don;t want another application
some of my contacts do not even sync the facebook profile photos to Contacts.... any chance this problem is caused by the new Facebook privacy settings?

Good call, that could be the reason why pictures stopped syncing.

Linking contacts to Facebook is Awesome

Just in case any facebook users aren't doing this, you should give it a go.
This has to be my favourite feature on the phone so far. I get their picture, automatically updated, and their latest status in my phonebook. Amazing!
1) You add your contacts as normal (manually, or from Gmail).
2) Tap on a contact, then select link at the top right.
3) If you have a facebook friend with the same name, it will suggest that person. Just tap on that person and the two will become linked.
4) If the name is different, just find the right person and tap on them.
yeh its fun but it also makes your phonebook filled up with people you dont normally have there but they are in your fb list which is really annoying me

yeah thats wot im worried about but the OP said that he added his contacts first and then linked the ones with facebook. I also know that you can sync to FB when you first switch it on so it imports all FB contacts to your phone. I have not got a Desire yet but I hope you can just manually link the some contacts with facebook.
It replaces all my nicely chosen contact photos from my Google account with crappy Facebook ones :-(
This is nothing new to me as i had it on my HTC Tattoo too. Mine only has my Google contacts if i go to "people" the only way i see the anoyying FB contacts that i never added is if i press "phone".
Oh and if yours show when you go to "People" then try pressing menu, then view then untick Facebook. If i had my FB ticked i'd have 305 more that i don't want!

yeah ive done that but any idea how to get rid of the ones from FB that are not on your contact list but they still show up on the list when you re in the phone 'menu'
also how can i delete a number thats been linked to the account? cuz my mates number on facebook is his old number he's not using at the moment and it even set it as a primary number :< and ill keep forgetting which one is which lol
I don't have this problem. When I click on 'people' I get just the Gmail contacts. there are other tabs along the bottom, such as 'groups' and 'online directories' which is where the facebook contacts are listed.
I've just tested, and I do get all the facebook numbers when I push the phone button. It is kinda annoying, though I never make calls that way. I couldnt find the option to turn this off.
There is an option to not sync facebook contacts at all, but I guess that would stop me linking the contacts from Gmail as well.
you guys are lucky. Mine says i dont have any friends when i know i have about 300+

Yep, that's my main problem with it. It has its uses and I do like it, but boy do my friends have some crap pictures up!
At least you can choose not to have your 'Facebook only' friends on the phone's contact list, by deselecting Facebook from the People/View option.

Contact picture Google/Facbook problem

Before I got my desire I sorted out my Google contact just right and added lovely edited pictures, mostly from Facebook. They all synced fine. However, after linking said contacts with Facebook it uses that picture instead. Some people have awful pictures, so I click the link on the top right of the contact, and then click the picture on the left and select the Google picture.
Job done, or so I thought. It then later reverts to Facebook. Does anyone else have this problem? Any fixes?
I have no fix for this but if anyone also knows how to only sync specific Facebook contacts and get rid of others that I don't want clustering up my phone that would also be great
This is one thing that I hate Android and Google.
Why can't they implement a good way, crisp and nice contact photo?
Look at Google Contacts from GMail, the photo contact is bloody ugly in terms of image quality. And the resolution is small.
I just cannot believe this, that after 2 - 3 years, the Android google contacts is awful.
I am proudly show Android to people, make them say "Wow" ... but I shamely hide showing them the contact photo. When I got a call, the photo is damn blurry.
Is this a storage issue? No!
Network speed issue when syncing over the air? Probably! But why not add a way to select custom picture from phone and mark it to be NOT OVERIDDEN when [email protected]
And what's that automatic contacts addition on GMail! Duplicate contacts!
Then came HTC trying to do Facebook integration and whatnot, bloody mess up with linking contact, photo not shown.
I spent some hours to sort this out, and finally gave up. I accept that this is one of the weakness of Android ... contact photo is awful.
People screamed already since long ago, but no fix from Google.

That is another issue with this Facebook intergration. I don't need all the people on FB on some of the phones contact list.
I have a fix of sorts for the contact pictures. Goto the Facebook sync settings, and uncheck 'Sync contacts'. Syncing Facebook no longer changes contact pictures! Not sure how it will effect Facebook once new people are added though.

Settings, Accounts & Sync, Facebook for HTC Sense
I think the low res photo problem is an HTC dialer problem. the contact photos looked fine on my Milestone.
i have the same issue, everytime i sync with my pc it changes the contactpicture to the one from facebook.
i have automatic sync deactivated. so after every sync with my pc, i have to set all the pictures again, and i get tired of if.
no solution for that problem? i dont know why they let you choose a picture, and after a sync its overwriting your setting again. it should be somehow protected, after a manual set of the picture.
i am very new to android, so maybe somebody else knows.
my pics have been fine i think that the facebook intergration is a usefull feature but when u click the pic choose phone instead of the other options

Birthday reminders in the calendar

I must say that I love my Desire (have had it for about a week), except for some small kinks and I'm not the big fan of the HTC Sense lock-screen (I don't like the vertical "handle", I would much prefer the default Android one.. [any tips to get it is welcome]).
But there is one thing that annoys me, and I don't understand why they didn't implement. And that is birthday "reminders" in the calendar..
I like the HTC Calendar and I "love" the integration between Google Contacts (& Calendar), the phone and Facebook... For me (as a developer) it couldn't be much more work to integrate that into that calendar as well (the data is already there, you just have to show it [more or less..]).
Anybody know if there's a way to "fix" this (a setting I've missed) or a better calendar app that can handle this?
I know that you can include birthday info in your Google Calender from your Google contacts, but that's not "good enough". For one thing, I don't have all my friends (that I have on Facebook) in my Google Contacts and I have no intention to add them to it (or go through them and add their birthdays..)
I'm glad for any input..
All the best to you..
/Chris

I have the same problem. How do i make my device remimd me of my contacts b-day?

You have to do it via Google.
First you have to sync your contacts with your Google contacts. The birthday and anniversary details will be carried up to your Google contacts from your phone.
Then switch to your Google calendar. On the left hand side in the Other calendars section, click "Add", select "Browse Interesting Calendars" and click the "More" tab. From the displayed list click the "subscribe" link against "Contacts' birthdays and events."
This adds your contacts' birthdays to your Google Calendar, which when sync'd with your phone will appear on you phone's calendar.
I admit this is not straightforward and I would have liked to have seen the phone do this by itself.
And what can we do with the contacts stored on the phone and no as a gmail contact?
Thanks!

On your phone you have three types of contacts: SIM contacts, Phone contacts and Google. Obviously, SIM contacts reside on your SIM card; Phone contacts in the phone and Google contacts on Google Mail.
As you have pointed out only Google contacts will synchronize with your Google Mail account. But all is not lost. You won't have to type in all your contact details again because you can link contacts together in the phone.
What you do is to create Google contacts that duplicate each of your phone contacts. Just create each Google contact on your phone with the same name as each existing phone contact. You do not need to include any details, just create them as empty contacts. Once you've done this, they will appear as two separate contacts in the contact list.
Now the magic. For each person, edit either one of their two contacts. You will see that you can link each contact with another contact. If you've used the same name for your Phone and Google contacts it will already be suggesting that these two can be linked together. So link them.
Now you will find your two linked contacts now appear as one in your contact list. And these linked contacts will now synchronize with your Google Mail account contacts and carry all the details from your original Phone contact with them.
Hope this helps.

I had this too. Only birthdays that were assigned to contacts at the time I created the calendar online show now.
I'm going to try and delete that calendar and re-create it but something is definitely wrong when you subsequently add birthdays after making that calendar.
Right, one thing I've found is that the birthdays I've added on the phone have NOT made their way back into Google's cloud. I've re-entered them in GMail online and re-created the calendar to show birthdays but they still aren't showing, not online and not in my phone!
Right, just re-added the calendar again online and it's now showing in the web calendar. After a refresh of the calendar on the phone, it's now showing there too.
So numerous bugs. If you want to see your birthdays, the process seems to be:
1) Enter them all online in your Gmail contacts
2) Delete then recreate your "friends birthdays" calendar in Google Calendar online
3) Refresh your phone
If you add any new birthdays, you'll need to do this all again. Pretty poor

Well, it's certainly sub-optimal. I'd say the main bug is the phone not sending birthdays entered on it back to Google. The non-refreshing calendar thing I can kind of understand. I guess the additional calendars are assumed to be static (like UK Public holidays etc). Just a guess. I'd heard about the birthday syncing bug on another android phone, kinda hoped it would be sorted on the Desire.

For me it takes about 12-18 hour until birthdays are synched with my calendar, but only when i refresh the calendar manually (menu -> more -> refresh)
Try to add a birthday @ google contacts, wait 24 hours, refresh the calendar.
The only way it works for me.
When i add a birthday to a contact (when creating the contact), the contact disappers lol.
@meson1: I thank you for your post, and I guess it could be helpsome for someone but as I said in the original post. I know that you can do that, bit I don't want that.. Don't want to go through and manually add a hundred people to my Google contacts.. First there are already too many posts in there, second: too much work for too litle result and för something that more or less should be given..
I will check out that app. But I'm still looking för a good solution to this problem.. (anybody know if there's än API för the calendar?)

I'm afraid I don't know a way to do this for all your contacts enmasse. My experience with this stuff is limited. I looked into all this shortly after I got my Desire not having had any experience of Google Mail or Android before. After some experimentation that is what I have found.
I do agree that this part of the functionality is extremely lacking and it seems from other peoples' posts that it is also extremely buggy too. I do not like having to go via Google to do this stuff. I think this stuff should be integrated into the phone by itself and then linking to Google and anything else should be an extra.
It's all the more annoying that it's an obvious function to include, but that no-one has connected the dots. Or at least connected them in a technically competant fashion.
If I knew how, I'd knock up a really simple app to let you sync birthdays and anniversaries in the contacts to the calendar. As it is I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Android SDK and Java let alone doing anything practical.
Perhaps there's someone out there that is further up the Android Development learning curve that can put something together.
If I had the time (and not already too many projects to work with) I could perhaps put something together (If I knew there was some nice APIs)...
But I tried eboBirthday and it works ok.. (Far from ultimate and I can't even call it "good"..). First it downloaded all the birthdays from Facebook (and displays it in a extremely plain interface). But I can't say that it went smooth.. It was a bit "buggy" and I got an error at the end (even if it seemed to have downloaded all the info fine).
Then by using eboBirthday Contact Sync (also free in the market) that match my Google Contacts with my Facebook contacts and updated them..
And when I looked at my Google Calendar, the info was already there (no need to remove the Contacts birthdays calendar etc).
And then I just synced my calendar in the phone and now, at least, got all the birthdays for my Google Contacts in my calendar (plus reminders from eboBirthday).

Missing Facebook Contacts Links

Something weird is going on. For some reason, I am unable to link certain friends' contact information with Facebook (Sense). I'd say 95% of my contacts are syncing fine where their information and pictures are updated through their Facebook profiles. However, I noticed that about 5 of them aren't listed on the Facebook link search list: even though they're on my Facebook app friend list.
What could it be? Is there a setting in Facebook that doesn't allow this information to be synced to people's phones?! Only thing I figured it could be.
Thanks in advance...
Nobody can relate?!
Yep. I have one who I cannot link. He has the highest level of privacy on his account vs. the rest of my friends. So I am pretty certain it is a security setting. Not sure which one though.

Gotcha. I guess it makes sense. Alright then. Thanks for the help!
I imported my contacts from a save file on my sd card recently, and noticed some contacts not syncing with facebook.
Later in the day I checked it again and they were synced fine. No idea why it was like this. I stored my contacts through google, and not to my phone.
Weird. The thing is, with my, it's only like 5 contacts out of the hundreds that are syncing fine. It's been months too and they're still not linked. I guess there's a setting on Facebook for that.
i'm having a similar issue, although my phone is an HD2. but there are some facebook contacts that will not be available for me to sync them with my phone contacts. and even i add more friends to my facebook profile, when trying to sync the contact, it only shows 53 facebook contacts. even though more friends were added recently. any ideas?
I have cm6 and downloaded Facebook. I don't have last names but 30% get linked. I just want their pics on contacts. I downloaded I used syncmypix app from appbrain which I'm sure is in the market. Does Facebook sync for pics. Got all of them on there. It will attempt to sync them. After and if it doesn't do all of them go to results. Will show the list of friends and who's picture worked. You can go through and if there is no pic next to the name and is on your phone contacts, click their name.. it will pull the pic from Facebook. Hit the back button to to exit pic and press and hold on their name. Will bring you to your phone contacts. Scroll and click. Bam you synced their pic. It will ask to crop or skip.
