Galaxy S2 with Parrot MKi9200 Handsfree - Galaxy S II Accessories

OK, first post here, but I think it's a useful one!!
Collected a Galaxy S2 on Monday night from the 3 store in the Trafford Centre. Absolutely love it!, fantastic handset.
Or so I thought until last night.....
This was the only bugbear/issue that the phone gave me and gave me no end of grief; I paired it with my Parrot 9200 Car Kit, as with any other phone. All seemed to be well.
That was until I tried to make a call. When I pressed the green button on the handsfree to initiate voice dialling, android launched the "Voice Commands" program, which tried to take over. Unfortunately, the voice commands program required a little bit of interaction with the phone, and wasn't particularly accurate over bluetooth.
Tried deleting and re-pairing, turning off voice commands over bluetooth, which just bypassed the hands free mic, to the handset!!. Grief grief grief.
OK, I thought, I'll just manually select the numbers on the car kit. A bit of a ballache, but it'll do!
Wrong, the phonebook hadn't downloaded, and no amount of tweaking the car kit or the phone could sort it.
There was very limited info on this, hence the reason for this post!
After much googling, I found that the latest version of the Parrot firmware had an additional pairing setting; "Force AT Sync".
So, car kit updated with the latest firmware from the Parrot website, on the car kit, I navigated to Settings>Bluetooth Settings> Pair With> Force AT Sync. (This is at the bottom of the list of phones that the kit "knows" about by default.
Seconds later, my phone was requesting permission for the car kit to access the phone book, and syncing away nicely.
No more voice commands software, and the Parrot kit is working as it should, completely hands free!
Cheers
Tim

Thanks for the info on this. I'm thinking about getting the same kit, can I ask what the sound quality is like through Bluetooth?

Update:
I've just had an MKi9200 fitted. Only had a couple of hours to play with it but so far I'm delighted.
Feel free to ask questions.

Does it work?

Yep, works really well.
Phone calls are very clear for both parties and (to me at least) the bluetooth music sound quality is really good. It's not a top of the line speaker system but it's clear and the volume is adequate.
It cuts in with the sat nav directions nicely. I had a bluetooth headunit before and if I had the phone connected the directions wouldn't interrupt a cd or radio. This works just fine, even if I'm listening to the radio through the stereo, the directions still come through.
I've not tried using the other sound connections yet, iPod, USB stick, aux jack or SD Card. I'll try them all over the next couple of days.
I'm thinking about taking the SD card out of the phone and using that way as it only lets you move the tracks foreward and backwards on a playlist or album if you use bluetooth. You have to use the phone to select another artist or album etc. Also, an SD card would let you see the album art and display the track details on the Parrot screen.
The only thing that isn't working correctly at present is that the remote won't skip tracks if the music player isn't displayed on the phone. If I have the sat nav screen up the track forward and backward keys are ignored.
I'm just going out to update the software though so this might fix that.
Anything else you need to know?

Right, I've updated the software which was really painless.
The sat nav stopping the track controls from working only happens in Co Pilot, not in Google Navigation.
I tried using my SD card from my phone in holder and it didn't seem to pick it up. I might need to leave it in longer (about 28 gig of music on it) or it might be that the card is too large at 32GB. The Parrot website says that there is no limit to card size but that sounds a bit optimistic to me.
Other than that though, I'm delighted so far.

I've got one of these too. Great bit of kit. I did notice a tweak in the VillainRom thread that ups the Bluetooth audio quality, if that's how you're using it. Haven't tried it yet myself.
One thing I have noticed is it's a bit hit and miss when play and pause work. I could never get into the car and press play, and just have it resume the last thing that was playing (usually BeyondPod). In the end I set Tasker up to automatically start playing when Bluetooth connects. Job done.

Could you post a link to that thread? I have a Mki9200 myself and would be very interested to read this.

Have a look for a post by Faremoney on May 16th in the VillainRom thread over in the dev forum. It's to do with altering the Bluetooth bitpool. I'd link, but I don't think I can from the app.

The only annoyance I have now, which is more parrot related is that if I have a usb memory key and sd card connected, even if i had been.listening to music on the sd card, next time I get in the car and press play, it defaults back to the usb.
All in all, the kit is impressive. I bought mine about 18 months ago and gave nearly £300 fitted. A couple of months ago, I bought a kit for my girlfriend, brand new for £110 and fitted it myself in 40 mins!!
Definitely recommended.

It works very nice now!

Thanks for the fix - I was getting close to returning the unit - spent an hour or more listening to 'Voice Prompts'! Stick loaded with update and ready to go

Ordered a second hand unit off ebay for 65 and getting it fitted late this week/early next week.
Has anyone figured out a way to charge the s2 from the iphone connector?

Hi there
Hope all ok with yours. I've been delighted with mine so far.
It does charge off the USB connector, don't need to use the iPhone end. It seems to deliver quite a small charge though so I still use a cigarette lighter socket.
From memory you can set the phone to storage mode and the Parrot kit will read the music contents of the phone but I had trouble with a larger capacity card. I'm happy with the audio quality over Bluetooth so this was the simplest way for me to work.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense or if you have any other questions.

Working but could be better...
Hi,
I have updated my MKi9200 Parrot software and set the "Force AT Sync". Effectively I don't have the phone voice commands anymore and it is already much better. Thank you for this.
However, I experience some interruptions of sound each time I use the phone (like just checking my mail) or each time an event occurs on the phone (like reception of an email notice or reception of SMS notice). It is not comfortable when listening to music...
Also, I had a much better experience with my Parrot and another phone than SG2. With SG2 + Parrot, sometimes you press the green button on Parrot and you don't get the voice command to dial, sometimes you have a phone ring and you can't take the call when pushing the green button on Parrot, sometimes you can't hang up after a call, sometimes it only works after several attempts of push on a given button.
Well, it is better than before but still not working as it should. Of course, when the Parrot buttons are not responding, I can still get the command right using the phone screen to take the call or hang-up but it is really not safe at all while ones drives his car in the same time...
Has anyone here found a solution first not to get those cuts on phone events?
Has anyone found a better setting to make sure the Parrot buttons are always working with SG2?
Has anyone experienced the same kind of troubles despite the "Force AT Sync" mode is set like on my SG2?
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for confirming. much appreciated.

I can't find how to get latest firmware from the parrot website
Your post was interesting but for the life of me I can't work out where to get a newer version of firmware! I have just put in the unit and was dismayed when I called Samsung and was told that I can't put my contacts in it! It seems that you have so I'd love to know where and how you got the firmware you refer to.

You can get it from here http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/downloads

Hi guys, just registered. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (with 2.3.5 KI3) and a Parrot LS-3400GPS carkit. It pairs without problems but of course it is a bit limited so I would like to change it with a Parrot MKi9200. I'm reading in many places there are a lot of issues with Android phones. I also wrote di Parrot and they do CONFIRM. But the problem (they say) is not in the carkit sw but in the Android! So strange...
On the parrot forum there are still users with mic issues, contact sync issues and voice command issues, even with the last 1.96 fw.
I've read here that everything works fine using "force at sync".
I understood that it does sync but what about the voice commands? Any problems?
Is there a conflict with the parrot ones?
I'm really confused
Thank You

[Q] Bluetooth Problems

Hi,
I have a bluetooth phone in my car, when I first connected the HTC Desire HD up, it had no problems, it paired and everything looked fine... around 10 minutes later, I noticed the bluetooth had simply disconnected from the car but was still running on the phone. I tried to reconnect it up to the car but it wouldn't, I then turned it off, and turned it back on.. it struggled to come back on, but after a few attempts it did come on and the car connected again...
About 5 minutes later the same thing happened again. At this point my phone started to really slow down, I looked in watchtower and the bluetooth was at the top of the list, soon as I turned off bluetooth the phone was responding fine again.
I have since tried connecting to the car multiple more times and have contacted HTC about it, but it seems to disconnect at random times.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems? I heard of similar problems with the original desire so wondering whether it could be something similar.
Kev
Hi Kev,
I am having similar problems with my Desire HD and Audi in car bluetooth system. I posted on another forum and found others were finding the same...
I pair my phone and within couple of minutes the phone has disconnected and won't re-connect.
Not found any definitive answer as yet, but seems BT in this phone isn't so good. Also read a post saying HTC were aware of this but an update wouldn't be available for sometime.
Hopefully someone else can shed some light!
Ben
I also noticed this the last few days with my Bury CC9056 carkit. I have my DHD since October 18th, and up till last friday it connected fine. Since then it connects to the carkit, but within a few seconds the connection is lost...

Me too. My connection to my Jabra car kit is stable once connected... but trying to get it connected in the first place is a total headache.
Never had this problem with my Desire, so why HTC should change the Bluetooth function in the HD is a mystery.

tbh i'm glad its not just me thats experiencing problems meaning it could be a software problem rather than something with my handset in particular.
I have been in touch with HTC about this, and I have just sent them the link to this thread so they can see i'm not the only one with this issue, so if anyone else has this issue it may be good to try and keep it all in here.

Mines also the audi in car system - do you find that you struggle to turn the bluetooth off and on again once it disconnects or that your phone becomes a little laggy until you turn the bluetooth off?
Yeah - I use the bluetooth widget on the home screen and once it disconnects, it will either take ages to turn off and on again, or it takes 2 presses to turn off.
I have just purchased a Plantronics 230 headset as need bluetooth for my job and it works perfectly - it's no where near the quality of the in car one though.
Also booked in my Audi as it's still under warranty - spoke to them on the phone and they said they will try and update the firmware but the Desire HD isn't on their supported phone list. Have seen a copy of this and not many phones are!!
I would of thought though, that as long as the phone does connect to the phone system in the car that it is compatible.
I have had 30mins once out of it before it disconnected and it was absolutely perfect in that time, including the phone book etc.
I do believe its something to do with the bluetooth on the phone as its a bit strange the way it struggles to turn on again once it fails.

That really hacks me off. I mean, BT is a standard. The only reason Audi can give for not supporting a phone that supports at least the same level of BT as them is that they (Audi) do not adhere to the BT standard.
Now, we all know in real life that cars and phones have problems/bugs/whatever BUT unless they can show that there is indeed a *bug* with the phone then the onus should be on Audi to support it.
Dave
Just for the record, it is not just Audi. With me it is together with the Bury carkit, where it first worked fine. (and also works with all other phones...)

I can confirm the issues with the BT. I have a parrot Mki9000 in my car and the first time when i tried to connect the DHD , the phone stopped to respond and I was forced to restart it. Since then the phone is paired with the car kit and works fine in a2dp mode for playing music, but when i try to make a call it simply not work. Yo better discribe the problem I will give an example:
The phone i properly connected and playing music, then it's ringing, but the ring sound is coming from the phone speaker not from the car. Then If i answer the call the sound comes from the phone (it shows that there is connection to the car kit). I've tried to press the speaker icon and there is a list with output devices (the phone, loudspeaker, and my car kit) I've tried to select the car kit several times , but there was no success. When I close the phone the music start to play from my car's BT system , so I think there is a problem with the handsfree function/protocol only a2dp works great , and I didn't have any issues with it. Also I've tried file transfer via BT, it works fine two.
Mitsubish Outlander carkit
I can confirm the same issue with the Mitsubish outlander carkit. It even happens that it drops the conversation. sometimes it's ok for half an hour, sometimes it disconnects after 1-2 minutes.
I also have a Jabra (bluetooth) headphone and noticed that if you pick up a call on the phone the sounds doesn't route to the headphone. If I pickup on the headphone it works fine.

I have a Pioneer head unit with BT in the car and that seems to work OK, not withstanding the fact that the HU has BT issues of its own (hardware fix needed - I'll get a new unit rather than fix it as I want one with A2DP) but once connected it works fine.
I have a Plantronics headset that seems to exhibit the same problems as your Jabra. At least if I use the phone to answer the call the sound comes through the phone. Also, if I have been using the headset the next call I make goes through the phone speaker which is a pain.
I'm wondering if HTC are routing the sound through the device that's actually *controlling* the call? So even if a headset is paired and connected to the phone, if you use the phone to make the call, as most people would, then it assumes that that's where the sound should get routed. If so, doh .....!!!!!
Just to add, if the sound does get routed to the phone you can use the 'choose speaker' option on the screen to route it to the headset but you shouldn't have to do this.
Anyone reported these issues to HTC and got a meaningful response?
Dave
I did send an email to HTC. Their wonderfull answer was about: "is your phone mentionned in the compatabilylist of the carkit, if not drop the problem there"...
I am still waiting for a response from HTC.
Mines got to a point now where I cant even make a call, it connects to the car, I go through phone book (on car) choose person to call, press call.. it tries for a couple of seconds then comes up disconnected, about 10 seconds later the phone disconnects from the car and will nto reconnect.
My phone then lags like mad until I turn bluetooth off which according to watch tower is taking up about 80% of the CPU.
any updates/solution to all these problems ?
I need it to work with MW600 before buying Desire HD
Last contact I had with HTC is they told me it had been escalted to the software team, so i'm guessing next time a software update comes out it could come about in that, but at the minute no still not fixed.

I've always thought that that's the way it is on all BT headset phones, it makes sense, if the incoming call was for my girlfriend, she can answer from the phone itself, and it automatically routes this through the phones speaker, and if it was answered from the headset, then it routes to the headset.. makes sense to me, I think it's quite good that it does that!
Do any of you have the process com.android.phone crashing when making a phone call through BT?
Ditto my mitsubishi outlander factory bt system. Seemed to work fine first time but then disconnected during first call and would not reconnect for days. Then after connecting not all functions would work ...no incoming call alert on car system, no dialling from car etc. I know the car system is fine as all functions work perfectly with my old nokia xpress music.

Got a live view today....(very smal review..)

So folks,
today the sony ericsson live view arrived. It´s quite cheap in germany (42 euro).
The package contains:
Live View
Wrist strap
Clip
Charger (mini USB, also loads the phone it you want to!)
Manuals
So the device is really smal and does what it promises.
I read some bad reviews at amazon.de, but until now it does not seem to be as bad. The connection between the phone and the live view broke up when it was about 3 meters, so that´s OK so far (could be better).
Reading SMS or the other stuff works.
Sportypal Pro does not work. (that´s one of two released apps that have live view support)
Instalation is easy, no problems there.
The clip has broken down after trying to release the live view for the second time.
Can´t say anything about battery life time until now.
But... I would say, thinking about future plugins for 3rd party apps, this litte device can be something really relly cool. I mean, if you have for example a OSM navigation app, that has live view support, you can easily fix that wrist strap on to the handlebar of your bike... and so on...
It also works as a remote for the music player (can be interesting on skies).
But now a little question. What musicplayer is that (pic) ... This musicplayer has to be installed at the phone natively, but i have no link to open it...
Best regards
(sorry for that really bad english, but it´s very late, the day was very long)
I would love to hear more about your live view as time goes on. I see great potentials in this little gizmo. Question; can you pair live view and a bluetooth [email protected] same time?
Also that native music app is available through creating custom shortcut with adw or launcherpro. There's prolly a thread with shortcut apk file somewhere in this forum. Good luck!
Free X10!
just got Live View this morning - actually, not for me, for my wife as she's got an X10. But since she's on T-mobile and they haven't issued their 2.1 update yet, we couldn't try it out on that device but did manage to do so on my HTC Desire.
First impressions of the box/presentations were pretty shoddy. For some reason here in the UK we were issued a 2-pin European plug (suggesting that etraders got their first batch from abroad) rather than a 3-pin one. Lucky I had an adapter at home. And it wasn't even in the box, it was just shoved in a bag in the mail package.
The accessories with the device are very plasticky. You get a wrist strap, a clip (to attach to pockets, bag handles etc) and a watch housing so you can attach it to the wrist strap. Actually getting the damn wrist strap/watch housing connected was very fiddly, took us about 20 minutes of messing around with little metal pins they supply to get it right. Again, why they couldn't have done this themselves is a mystery and making the customer do it is just frustrating.
First impressions of the device itself are decent, the calling/message notifications work well, the screen is large enough that you can read full text messages and you have the option to mute/reject calls when they come in.
Couple of annoying things: it does seem to lose its pairing fairly easily, maybe it's because we're using the Desire at the moment and not the X10 but I'm not sure. Also, the notification light (e.g. it flashes green if there is a message) doesn't last very long, just a few seconds, it would make more sense if it kept on flashing until you viewed the message.
Oh, one more annoying thing. If you lose the pairing, the watch can't show the time since it takes the time from the phone. My wife wouldn't mind using this as a watch as well, but she would need to have the phone with her all the time and paired up if that was the case. Again, not terribly practical.
there is potential though, the idea of plug-ins is a good one and hopefully there will be a lot of these to expand the functionality of the device.
Will write more once my wife's phone gets the update and is connected.

Couldn't try it with the MW600, but was able to test it with another stereo headset, the HB205 (Sony Ericsson). Worked fine no problem, tried calling the phone and the headphones stopped the music and rang the tone while the Liveview displayed the name/number and vibrated. I would imagine it would be the same for other bluetooth headsets.

Just to clarify, The liveview doesn't lose the time if it disconnects, it loses the time if you then turn it off completely (therefore resetting it).
In fact last night I went to find it to charge it as I only wear it at work, and I pressed the button and it was saying 1.06 am, and i hadn't even had my bluetooth on let alone had the thing near my phone.
Same thing with some of the connection issues, sometimes it goes wrong completely, but depending on what you do in certain situations, you can reconnect quickly.
The problem is SE haven't spelt these out, even pairing the thing in the first place was a nightmare, I had it for 48 mins and couldn't even use it, as i didn't know all the delicate things about it when things don't work. Couldn't really give this to someone as a gift as a casual user, may effect sales until they get the app working better. But I am okay with it now and its doing what I need it to do, and lasting the day.

It seems to me the native Android media player, can someone confirm? The odd thing is that I haven't found a way to start this media player stand alone...
I'm actually disappointed that the supported media player isn't Mediascape, so I can't start music from phone and then switch to Liveview!
Can confirm that supported music player is Android native player, which is a real bummer as I use mediascape for all my music. To activate, simply depress right button on liveview for 2-3 seconds.
I bought one today at a Telenor shop in Stockholm. It cost me 567SEK (60 EUROS) and I would recommend no one pays more than that for a LiveView in Sweden.
I agree with all the previous reviews. It does what it says on the tin ! But it is not ready yet to gift to your girlfriend for Christmas... The strap and holder are cheap plastic and I managed to bend one of the mounting pins whilst carefully trying to put it all together, if they had assembled the watchstrap before-hand it would have saved alot of problems. The instruction manual gave no direction on this at all ! If anything, the single diagram of the watchstrap was misleading.
The LiveView is smaller than expected, if anything it is too small and I wouldn't have complained if it was a little larger and 'styled' somewhat. It's the sort of thing that (and I hope SE have registered patents !!!) SonyEricsson could sell the LiveView module to a proper watch manufacturer like Seiko who could make something more stylish out of it. As it is, it is a small, square bit of plastic which performs some functions but is clearly capable of much more.
This is one of those things that you think is a good idea, but far too early for release. I can promise you that you will all be wearing a 'LiveView' type device in five years time.... But the current version is really still on the geek/hacker level.
But I do hope this does result in some interesting apps in the next few months.
My current, major technical concern with LiveView is that if it is more than 2 metres away from my X10 then it loses connection. My Bluetooth headset can easily manage 5 metres and so should LiveView. But it does manage to automatically reconnect to my X10 when in range, but it leaves the "Find my phone" application pretty useless.

so whats the definitive answer on the mw600 connected at the same time as liveview ?! can both be used at the same time ?!
can u listen to music whilst reading texts emails etc !? ...ie both devices connected at the same time without disconnection (i can cope with the calls being halted or an odd stall when i get a text but if both cannot be used at the same time then it defeats the object of having wireless devices with the bluetooth headphones and the liveview to control it!

Cheers to you both for answering a question I've been trying in vain to get SonyEricsson Support (useless) to answer for me.

Best blue tooth headset.

Anyone to recommend a good Bluetooth headset, a set with music controls 3.5mm jack for your own earphones and a display that would display the id3 tags or file name. Of course be able to answer calls.
I'm using a Nokia one at the moment but its not very responsive, dunno if its because of the old Bluetooth 1.0 compatibility.

Sony MW600.
Thanks for the recommendation, so I bought a set after reading positive reviews. Connection was easy and very quick and responsive. But one fault is that the phone itself starts ringing on incoming calls the and some signals through the headset. Weird doesn't happen on my old slow unresponsive BT headset (Nokia) at least the phone didn't ring just signals through the headset bit embarrassing when your phone goes off and you answer on a BT headset.
Any settings that could fix this?
I have resetted BT pairing and the headset but still same.
Anybody use this with wildfire?

Are you using any custom roms? I remember that cyanogen rom has some options about ringing in headphones, if I am not mistaken.
Also, did you test it on another phone to see if it's behaving the same way ?

I am using Wildpuzzle 0.8. Checked media and phone audio is connected. Have tried it on a Nokia and same thing happens. Can the headset be updated or something? My way round is to mute the phone when I connect the headset but this is so inconvenient when sometimes I forget to reenable sound.

Try this: Do a nandroid back-up and flash CM7. See if the problem still persists.
If not... I`m out of ideas. Maybe try to get a refund?
I have read many threads with same complaint, now realising It's a feature of most new smartphones (dunno whether its just android or not) that phone always rings with Bluetooth headsets just in case for some reason you take out your earphones for some reason.
I'm a little reluctant to switch to cm7 waiting for it to be stable first.

I think it`s normal for a phone to ring via the speaker even with the headset connected. Maybe they just need to add an option for it.
I meant testing CM7, not switching to it completely. A 30 min job to test CM7 and restore nandroid.
Hi
Just got the MW600 as well, very pleased so far.
I have the same issue, phone is ringing as well - whereas it does not really bother me.
There are few things not working well for me, so I was hoping to find here some feedback:
- No Song titles are displayed (not so bad since it is normally clipped in a position where you can not easily check
- the call-button does not work to call somebody, only to take a call
- the play button does not automatically start playing HTC music - but worked with Winamp and Songbird
Any suggestions ?
Original Rom (l have 2.2.1 nie) have Sound quality issue over a2do. HTC support said, I must wait for next update (when they may be fix it)

I'm having an issue with my Plantronics 903+ Bluetooth Headset. They pair and play's music fine , but it cuts out quite alot if i move about. Honestly if I have to sit still I may as well get wired headphones.
I am CM nightly's (71) with the latest radio flashed.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hello,
i use Jabra BT3030
http://www.productwiki.com/jabra-bt3030/
3 years of working, without any problem
Ok, I really start to like the SE MW600 a lot
If you get a call music stops and you can take the call with one button.
Double tapping the call button re-calls the last person you phoned - works good as well.
But I am still not having the ideal media player
Original HTC music player fails to start up automatically when you tab the music button
- but next song/pause works well
Songbird opens automatically, next song/pause/... works well but searching in a track not and it is rather heavy making the phone really slow
Winamp is probably the best, but I still think it is too heavy
Does anybody knows a good light media player with bluetooth support ?

[Q] Bluetooth or car dock?

Hello my fellow Galaxy S II owners...
I have a dying Sony Xplod stereo installed in my car that only run MP3s, nothing special about it.
I want to buy a new stereo system that can pair with the Galaxy S II so that I can stream music to it and make phone calls while driving.
Since this is new to me, I would like to ask for your help figure out what my options are:
- Shall I get a stereo system with USB link? or bluetooth? and why?
- A simple research on the XDA forums says that not all Galaxy phones can make phone calls using the USB link, is that the same for the bluetooth?
I'm thinking this would be good, but I want to hear from you too, what do you think? http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-6...ef=sr_1_2?s=car&ie=UTF8&qid=1337028884&sr=1-2
Thanks,
I have both in my car and prefer bluetooth by a long shot.
To be honest I never heard of the possibility of using USB to make phone calls. As far as I knew the only thing possible with USB was to use your phone as some kind of mass storage device, where it would find your .mp3 files and be able to play them.
With bluetooth you can play everything on your phone that plays through the speakers. I use it for navigation / phone calls / radio / spotify. Also the buttons on the steering wheel of my car work perfectly for switching tracks on my phone, and the track info is displayed in the dashboard of my car.
Especially combined with spotify this is amazing. On my PC spotify client I just favorite some new songs and without having to take my phone out of my pocket the music is synced to my phone via wifi, then when I get in the car all my music is right there! You'll need a spotify premium account though, but in my opinion well worth the money.
Just make sure that when you buy your new stereo it is able to play A2DP. On my previous car this wasn't supported and this meant I was only able to use it for making phone calls.
Funny thing was that whenever I was in the middle of a phone call and my nav on my phone gave me a "turn left" notification or something it played fine during the phone call. So if you ask me this was just lazyness from the developers not to implement it. To anyone thinking about buying a new car, avoid "Blue & Me" it really is terrible.
Hope this information helps you in your decision
Thank you for the reply, now I know what I should be looking for.
I'll update this post once I get the stereo and test it
Thanks once again

Sony Smart Bluetooth Headset SBH50 Review

Hey guys hows it going?
I just purchased one of the new smart bluetooth headsets from Sony which is the SBH50 model and I received it yesterday. Been using it for a day now. Just here to give you a review.
Now first I wasnt sure if it would work the way I assumed originally or if any of the features were compatible with the Xperia S. But bought it anyway as I mainly need it for calls.
As soon as I took it out of the box I immediately touched the headset to the back of my phone and boom. It was connected immediately. Received a notification to download the companion app. Downloaded and thats it. I was soon enough set up ready to go. So simple.
Sound quality is awesome for calls and music. Even the FM radio. The signal for the radio is also good. Unlike on the mw600 where the radio would cut out because the signal was weak.
When you receive a phone call the number pops up on screen with the name, compared to mw600 would be just the number. The notification for text to speech I still havent tested properly however so far seems to be working. I also havent checked the messaging notifications yet however I have seen the email and gmail notifications.pop up on screen.
The multipoint feature is excellent. You can select one device as a primary device and still receive notifcations from both devices and listen to music from the other.
The battery life is also amazing. Switched it on at 7 am and its still on id say about 75%. Most of thr battery has been consumed by me listening to the fm radio this morning.
Oh and there is an option to view your call log on the device too which is quite nice, especially if you want to ring back a number in the call list.
Build quality is very good I found. Feels slightly plasticy but good quality. Not the cheap plastic feel.
Theres a lot more which can be covered and I will add to this review the more I get to know the device and its features.

Got mine as well few days ago. Lost mw600. Not sure what Sony is thinking with 'smart' range as it regresses, since any bluetooth ever, had double click to redial and long press to voice dial. These, including mw1 are missing those functions. Also in comparison with mw600 now we need app to display contacts (sure not it shows names as well), but permanent ongoing notification in status bar and notifications kills this softaware for me.
As long as it does not allow me to change button options and setup, this smart bluetooth is not gonna be 'simply smart' for the foreseeable future. Opening api for Devs might help.
Also don't understand why bluetooth with basically same features, sans NFC, as mw600, is 30 percent larger in volume, while offering same talk/music times as it.
Rant over!
Basically, only reason I'm keeping it is because of possibility of firmware updates (if mw600 had this it wouldn't be obsolete yet and would buy again. Than again that company does not exist anymore) , making it somewhat future proof. This only applies if Sony keeps their end of the bargain.

I got one of these in the mail this week for my Xperia Z.
I was after a bluetooth unit with a 3.5mm output so i could hook it up to my Logitech Z2300 and control the music from my phone. Works well, only the bluetooth range is up to approx 15m line of sight. It'll do for my home entertaining.
I havent tried yet, but if i can connect my pc to it via BT as well i can play the songs off there too.
I dont really see the need for NFC since pairing with BT is simple enough.
Firmware can be updated on it via SUS.
The instruction manual included doesnt have any operating instructions. Im not 100% sure what the icons in the menu means.
Its very light if youre gonna clip it to your clothing, but to handle it is a little tricky cos it is too light.
Ive seen the Pro version of this, with usb on the end of it, so it can be used as standalone mp3 player. Wish i had seen that earlier.
The only thing I cant get it to do is connect to skype on my nexus 7 1st gen or on my xperia s

Well, I am somewhat happy with the SBH50 - I only had the MW600 for a short while before sending it back because of the volume controls.
However, it's terrible that you cannot launch voice dial with the big button (what does it anyway?) and the music controls will launch the standard music app if you hadn't launched a different one on the phone before...
I'm praying that this will become better.
My first one after a few weeks died. Wouldn't switch on at all thankfully Amazon replaced it for me.

Can anyone confirm the battery life of sbh50 when you only listen to fm radio, with no device connected? how long is it? because I need at least 10h of fm radio at work

My MW600 stopped working (showing that its charging but not turning on) after a few months so I'm scared to buy another type from Sony. Anyone else ran into problems with the unit not turning on or are you all recommending it?

Personally I'd recommend it. I mean I have had no problems since I got my replacement and the battery life on it is awesome. For me anyway. I was going to purchase the sbh52 but I wasn't too sure about it

I'm just looking for a replacement for my MW600 (first one got lost, second one got the clip broken and the last one all of a sudden died for no obvious reason ).
Now I already kind of decided to go for the SBH50 but coming across this thread I don't feel so confident any longer..

Just to get this right- once you've started another app the buttons will control the playback of this particular app or start the default player instead?? (Which would be horrible since I'm exclusively using Spotify)
And something else which got me confused after having read too many reviews: Does the display turn off while listening/having calls? (The MW600 did and I would prefer it this way.)
And a last question especially for the previous MW600 users: Is the SBH50 comfortable to wear? From the pictures the clip doesn't really look secure to be attached compared with the old model..

Hi there. Yes the display turns off after a few seconds in a call, listening to music or when you stop pressing the buttons.
The clip is comfortable to wear however you will either need to clip it on to the neckline/collar of any top or anywhere along the zip line. You can't just clip it anywhere.
