ANY HELP would be soooooo rad

Did you select your SD as physical disk? Did you do a full format to your card (FAT32) before starting the process? Try those..

ill give that a try thanks

Unable to create goldcard

I am trying to root my UK vodafone HTC magic, so that I can install the cyanogen mod software on it, and have been unable to create a goldcard. I have now tried 5 different SD cards: 3 of them Kingston, 1 Sandisk and 1 Samsung card. I am absolutely tearing my hair out now!
I have been following this guide (forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4289899) and every time I get to the testing your SD card stage Windows prompts me to format the card, whilst Android reports "Damaged SD card."
The guide suggests that if this happens, I have to get a new SD card, well you can imagine my frustration that none of the cards I have purchased so far (3 of them specifically for this purpose) have worked. Is this guide accurate? Am I doing something wrong? Or should I just continue buying SD cards until I can find one that works? If so can anyone recommend one that absolutely definitely works? Preferably with a weblink to somewhere I can buy it.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is driving me insane now!
The problem you've got isn't the sdcard. In fact, it is the way you write to the sdcard. Ensure that you format the sdcard FAT32 and that you write the first 0x200 raw sector bytes and not to the first 0x200 bytes of the partition itself.
It will then work just fine.
WBR
Thanks for the reply. So you mean copy the data into the first 170 offsets of sector 1 (not 0), starting from offset 0200 rather than 0000 as the guide suggests?
No, it has to start at sector 0, offset 0, with length of 0x200 bytes.
I guess you are trying to write to the wrong device.
What do you mean by the wrong device? I am definitely writing to the SD card. Or do you mean that its a bad SD card? I tried purchasing an SD card reader instead of doing it mounted on the phone and that hasn't helped. Still get the same result
I'm sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, I just don't understand why it isn't working. I have been following the guide exactly but the same problem each time. I have tried Kingston 2GB cards (three different ones) which everyone seems to think will work but they aren't working for me. The only thing I have noticed that is different is that the guide says I should select the drive from the "physical disk" category, whereas on my computer it appears under the "logical disk" category. Would this have an effect?
Thanks again for your help.
OK I seem to have done it What made the difference was taking the card out of the SD card reader after saving changes, turning off the phone, putting the card in and then turning the phone back on again.
Edit - scratch that, it seems to have just re-formatted it automatically.
Ok it turns out I was being stupid, and didn't run HxD as administrator. Yet another victim of UAC!
I want to make a goldcard on HTC Legend.
when I enter "cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid"
it always show "No such file or dicrectory"
But if I enter "cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:*/cid"
it show 03534453553038478090011038008976
so is it correct ?
i have XP and when i put the card back in and reboot the phone, it still says damaged sd card..any idea?
still sd card destroyed
i have the same problem, but i run the hex editor in administrator mode (windows 7) :S
i do all the proccedure but at the end i get the destroyed sd card.
i tried formating the card after mounting to pc ( so i start the proccesdure with formated card) and also tried after formating it by phone (with initial android files on it) don't know which one is the right . i guess formating after mounting to pc.
also reversing the cid isn't exact reversing, it's kind of mix reversing right?
i tried that with goldcard helper application and qmat, still no luck.
i guess i do something wrong with the hex editor,
i run it on administrator mode, i open the sd card on one tab and the goldcard on the other and i copy the goldgard 0-170 to my card..
what about 0x200 sector ???
also when formating sd card with allocation unit size shall i choose? does it mater?
thanx

Cannot create gold card. Please help

I used the 2gb sd card come with the HTC Desire to make the gold card. Follow all the procedure properly, just that, after using HxD to change the hex value and save, take out the card, put in again, windows require to format it (means card cannot be used). Try many times, still the same.
Some body says that we can create gold card using the sd card come with Desire.
Is there any work around (using other hex editor to change, or different procedure to do) ? I dare not buy another card since I will not know whether it works or not, no point buying a lot of card just to find the one that can be goldcard, am I right?
So really need your help to fix this, bro.
Only some cards work. U need to try another card.
I had an old 256mb card that worked.... them were the days huh!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Try this http://www.roothtchero.co.uk/goldcard-2 I used the gold card tool and it was so easy and I got to flash a stock ROM until I upgraded to Froyo. Now I can root my phone.

[Q] HTC Desire how to create gold card without phone?

I attempted to manually update to Froyo on a rooted (came to me that way) HTC Desire.
I used the manual method described at geekword.net (google for it, I can't post links)
Unfortunately, I didn't know I was meant to use a gold card for the update.
So what I ended up with is a failed Froyo update, after the post-update reboot, the progress count will never get to 100%, as the phone goes into a reboot loop.
This wouldn't be an issue if I could reattempt the update with a gold card - unfortunately, in its current state the phone can't even see the sd card for whatever reason - the card isn't corrupt as I can continue to run the update.zip file from it - not that it helps.
With the phone connected to the PC, I don't have option to mount as disk drive. I can get the CID using Klutsh's Gold Card tool, but because I can't mount the phone, I can't copy the gold card image over.
Is there anyway to get the image over to the sd card and complete the gold card creation without going via the phone?
I dont really know for sure what the answer is to your problem mate but in the hope of getting this thread started I would be looking to download the original branded ROM and restore it through the bootloader menu so that you can start over. This may or may not work but its what I would be researching first.
When i made my gold card, i had the MicroSD in the phone to get the CID, but then i wrote the image to it using a MircoSD-to-SD adapter, just using the built in SD card reader on my laptop. Hope this helps.

jamesmcuk > I tried a stock Telstra rom (this is an Aus phone) found online, it came back with something along the lines of 'wrong bootloader version'. I have a feeling that bootloader for the phone was upgraded either during the first root (by the previous owner) or upgraded when I updated to Froyo.
Are there any official rollback methods for failed Froyo updates?
JPDyno > Could you please outline the procedure used to copy the image over to the micro SD? I have a goldcard.img file from the procedure that I've performed to date. Do I copy the img file over using a imageburner? Do I need to partition the sd card or anything? Kinda lost as to the steps since I thought the Klutsh tool would take care of the copying for me - but it needed connection to the phone.
Thank you both for your replies, hopefully I don't have a fancy brick on my hands
Your phone should have come with a MicroSD card adapter, which looks like a normal sized SD Card, with a slot at the back to insert your microSD into. So you take out your MicroSD card from the phone, slide it into the small slot on the adapter, and slide the adapter into your SD Card reader slot on your laptop/desktop. If you dont have an SD Card reader slot you'll need to get a USB SD or microSD card reader. Once you plug it in it'll automatically detect the card as a disk drive in My Computer. Then you can follow the steps in the Goldcard Guide (install and run the Hex Editor...open the disk drive and the img in the Hex editor and copy stuff over...yada yada...)
Just out of interest does it still do a constant reboot if you remove either or both the SIM and the SD Card.
Also I found this guide for restoring the Nexus 1 which being so similar should contain some good info although you will need to find the ROM for the desire rather than the ones they post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
Yay, got it working!
Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I followed the suggestions here (in using the sd card reader on my laptop), and used the steps starting with HxD from:
android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard
I managed to get a goldcard, and successfully updated to froyo!
p.s. the phone reboots even without a sim card - never tried without the sd card though - I needed it since the update.zip was from the sd.
Now onto exploring Froyo!
For all of those still wishing to make a goldcard sans phone, you can also find it here

Get CID
At first I could not get the CID as well. The problem was, that I was in Fastboot mode. After changing into Recovery mode, I was able to use "adb shell" and then cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid to get my CID.
So now you can start to make your own Goldcard.

[Q] Help ! debranding desire HD vodafone dont work :@ !

hi all,
I got a HTC Desire HD from vodafone with hboot 0.85.0018 and rom version 1.75.
I want to debrand this so i made a goldcard (tried with MMC1 and MMC2 as described everywhere). i used modaco's goldcard tool and when i loaded the goldcard img and pressed 'patch MMC' it says succesfully created goldcard.
So i putted the debranded zip on the sdcard. it loads the zip but then gives the error 'main version is older blablab'.
i think this is related to the goldcard right?
I made a goldcard like 5 times again and with another micro sd card but it all didnt work.
so now i cant debrand my desire HD
Please if someone can help me!!
thanks in advance!
Nick
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 doesnt work for you?
So I think Vodafone 1.75 is Android 2.2.1. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On top of the gold card you will also have to follow the procedure for downgrade to 1.32 (Android 2.2). Otherwise you won't be able to flash an older rom version over the existing software.
There is a guide to the downgrade procedure stickied in the development section.
Someone swyped my idea.

oops forgotten. i if course did that procedure too. but stil wont downngrade. its verry weird.
and yes its android 2.2.1
Are you using a low capacity sd card? Gold card won't work on sdhc, only sd. Use a 1 or 2 gb card.
Only other thing I could suggest is using a hex editor to insert the code manually, just to eliminate all possible errors.

yep i used to micro SD cards from 2gb.. and i insrted it manually too lol
Well im gonna try MMC1 on my 1 sd card and MMC2 on my other sd card in minutes and check if it works then .
So i just format as fat32 then make goldcard with MMC2.
Then put the zip on the SD card and insert it in my phone.
Then follow the downgrade process and check if it installs the zip right?
IT WORKS! it starts the update

This is tearing me apart!!!!
ESPRIMG not found error is usually fixed by reformatting your SD card, taking care to use the FAT32 format (not just FAT). Format your card and put everything you need back on it and try again...

Im a noob how do i do that.
I can't remember if it works to format the card with it in your phone or if you need to take the card out and plug it into your computer through a card reader .. think it works through the phone.
So plug your phone into you computer and make sure that the sd card contents are available through the computer (you might have to turn on the disk drive setting on your phone).
In Windows you would then right click on the drive for your phone's SD card and select format. Then make sure the format is set to FAT32.

Ok I've rooted every thing but I got a few problems
I get no cell phone service
And I want the slide rom not the nexus one and all I rooted for was to get the froyo ota for the slide that went unrealsed so if you can help I greatly love it thank you
heres the guide i used....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:HTC_Espresso.png
this is what i want....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928250
If all you want is the official Froyo update then you can now go download it directly from HTC. See the Offical Froyo is out on HTC site! thread.
Note that following that path will remove root from your phone.
If you would rather keep root you have a few other options. There are a few sense rom variants including the one you linked to.
If you already have root and have installed rom manager then you shouldn't have any trouble using that to install a new rom, create backups, etc.
Not sure what your comment about nexus 1 meant? You certainly cannot install a nexus rom on the slide. Did you mean the Cyanogenmod ROMs?
