I can try to provide the dump, but have no clue as to where to begin. bear in mind that I don't intend to root my phone (hopefully that is not required to create a dump).

Upload the two biggest files from the blog_fs folder, and the rest we can do, thank you very much

I'm still on 2.3.2, I've never rooted before; does gingerbreak require reformatting your phone? Also, if I root it, will I still be eligible for updates from SE?

you can still update if you root using SEUS, but if you unlock your bootloader you cannot, and rooting via gingerbreak does not reformat your phone

not with a locked bootloader

I've got a Rogers-branded (bootloader not unlock-able yet) running:
Version: 2.3.3
Baseband: 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_14-10
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf, [email protected] #1
Build: 2.0.A.2.181
GingerBreak works fine. It takes a while though (4-6 minutes).

[Q] Installed Update, Still getting nagged

I installed/flashed the 2.3.4 update for rooted phones from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219407&highlight=stuck&page=72
The update works great (thanks for that) but I am still getting nagged to install the OTA update. Is there a way I can shut this off? I do not want to install the OTA update because I don't want to lose root.
My phone currently has:
Android: 2.3.4
Baseband: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-g5e15ac4

Will the kill nagging zip file work with any Sense Rom?
I'd modded up my virtuous 3.2 quite a bit and would rather keep it, but can't seem to find where i can skip the OTA.

[Q] Can I use this on 2.3.4 whit locked bootloader?

Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
Hi... first of all, thanks in advance for everything that XDA foruns give to everyone...
I have locked bootloader (SIM Card locked by TMN - Portugal), on a R800i Xperia Play
I have downgraded to 2.3.2, rooted by ginger, OTA upgraded to 2.3.3 under UK generic 4.0.A.2.368 - all fine
Im rooted on 2.3.3, but OTA to 2.3.4 still didnt come out and i really want to try 2.3.4 whitout loosing root.
So, I read in that post, people saying its possible to root on Nordic 2.3.4 and my question is:
- Can I make the update to 2.3.4 using PCC, and then root using the metod on refered post? The meaning of this is to get the update via PC Companion, loose root, but gain it again when already updated in 2.3.4
I noob and cant post in development area...
Once again, thanks in advance
Even after an OTA update to v2.3.4, you'll be able to gain root again with the zergRush method.

Hey... this worked very well for me... Thanks a lot for everything.
I didnt have to wait on OTA, or unlock bootloader as well, so will share my experience for all off you still waiting on OTA:
- Used un-root option on gingerbreak in v2.3.3 (only by safe)
- Upgraded via PC Companion to v.2.3.4
- Did a factory reset and cleaned SD Card (only by safe)
- Used zergRush method to gain root
R800i TMN - Portugal
locked bootloader
v2.3.4 rooted

[Q] Help rooting android 2.3.3 Xperia Play r800at

Hello, I am new to these forums but have looked through (to the best of my ability) and have not found the solution to my problem. That problem is that I want to root my AT&T Sony Ericsson Xperia Play r800at (android v. 2.3.3).
I had it previously rooted using the Zergrush method (was still on 2.3.3) and it worked just fine, then about a month ago (perhaps half a month) my phone automatically updated itself via the software update function. Now I cannot get root back using the Zergrush method. I also tried the SuperOneclick method to which it hangs on step #7 and I am at a loss.
What information do you need about my phone to help in figuring out any possible solution?
Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to any replies.
Have you tried with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit?
PD: If the phone updated after November 2011 it seems you can't use zergRush, try with Flashtool

Indeed I have, that was the Zergrush method I mentioned previously. Thanks for asking.
I'm new with this but I think that your only solution is unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom kernel & rom

If I were to use Flashtool, what kernel would I need and do I absolutely need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash said kernel? Also, is there way to relock the bootloader (with original files intact) just in case I need to return the phone to AT&T repairs/maintenance or anything?
Ok, I've searched a bit more, seems thath you DON'T need to unlock your bootloader, just need to flash a firmware build that can be exploited by zergRush method.
I've searched and I found this (I haven't tried it)
1. Download flashtools
2. Download the .270 build Xperia_Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.rar
3. Flash the older build
4. Use flashtools to root
And you should get root acces

Yep that will work. Once rooted you can update to the latest AT&T build which is .285 but you must do it OTA. If you update through your computer it will remove the root.

He was talking about the carrier branded rom from AT&T which is his cellular provider. OTA means over the air. Basically doing the whole update process through the phone.

Dude, it totally worked!! Not a single hiccup anywhere whatsoever!!! Thank you so much!!! :highfive:
Since you were talking about OTA updating and such: If I were to root and then update to the latest build OTA is it still possible to unroot using the flashtool or whatever was used to gain root? The reason I ask this is should AT&T ever need to look at my phone...
I think that the answer is yes, just update the phone with pc companion, also you can flash again .270 firmware and the phone should get unrooted

Awesome, and is there anything else I should be aware of? After all I am flashing things *wink wink*
As far i know, if you want to try any room, make sure that is compatible for locked bootloaders (you phone have a locked bootloader) and for you mobile phone type , follow the instructions carefuly and if you don't understand something, ask Oh, and don't try to flash a custom kernel (like DoomKernel) with a locked bootloader beacause you will brick your phone.
That's all I can tell you
if you downgrade will you lose your files?
thanks Mercado for the mirror sight for SOC 2.3.3

You cant root 2.3.4 but you can root 2.3.3. Downgrade to 2.3.3 use superoneclick and then ota to 2.3.4. Or flash 2.3.4 kernel that already has su preinstalled.
When I have this problem I use other program, because I new member I can't post the link, send me a PM or tweet me @kozzi_ivan and I send you the link
Sorry for my english.

Sick of not being able to root. HELP!

Hi I am a noob and have tried 2 different ways of rooting, I am sick of being low on internal storage and need to make a partition on my sd card which requires my phone to be rooted! All of this is just stupid to me, it's a gaming phone WTF were they thinking with low internal memory?!?!
I just need the easiest way to root the my Xperia Play without any BS.
P.S. I have searched the board and all of it is outdated BS or BS that doesn't work.
You have to be on 2.3.3 firmware in order to root. Or flash a custom kernel with root preinstalled. Those are your only 2 options.

Ah I went to 2.3.4 for the Screenshot Feature, so would have to revert just to root and then have to stay at 2.3.3? The second option sounds simple enough and best.
And you have to be rooted to partition? Ah..was looking to get 64GB so if I have to be rooted.ahh, looks like its inevitable.

Firmware - 4.0.2.E.0.57
Any help is appreciated! Maybe I should try the Zergrush way? I really don't wanna brick my phone and I have had 2 fails already :crying:
Edit: Oops I guess I need to download drivers from Flashtool before being able to root... (I think lol) Doing that now..
You can't root 2.3.4 you have to downgrade first to 2.3.3 to root then if your bootloader isn't unlocked you can up update it. But other than that there is no way to root 2.3.4.
Is there a way to make a partition on the SD Card for internal memory by unlocking bootloader or by any other means? I basically just want more internal memory. If I can do that without rooting great!

Yeah you can, I've done it. It has to be early 2.3.4, though. The 0.57 version that the OP has won't do it, but the 0.42 version I have worked. Didn't work the first time, and I couldn't get DoomLord's script to do it, but I got it using the 'Force zergrush' option in FlashTool. To get the 0.42 version that worked, I installed the R800a 2.3.3 firmware and let it OTA update to the 0.42 version of 2.3.4, then used the zergrush method.
But that is for GSM not for CDMA. 2.3.4. It can not be rooted while on it unless your boatloader is unlocked.
WOW I just took a couple more hours of research, and I rooted my 2.3.4 xperia play using that rooting software that I'm too lazy to link to in Chinese AND I haven't unlocked my bootloader either and it worked (which it seemed unlocking bootloader was important for a few ways to root), It would have worked in my first hour of researching rooting (first time looking up how to root ever), but I didn't download the drivers from flashtool until tonight (which took me a few minutes to research and figure out).
