[Source] Samsung Gingerbread kernel on GIT - Galaxy Tab Android Development

Samsung have finally released source for 2.3.3 and is available from here
I have not tested it yet as I just got the notification from OSRC stating it was available and I will set up a git repository later that is like the one supercurio has done for the i9000.
EDIT:
As keeping in line with the i9000 and i9100 work that supercurio has done in keeping a clean kernel on git here we have it https://github.com/Galaxy-Kernels/samsung-kernel-tab. This kernel will be kept clean and have no mods applied to it, I would like to encourage kernel devs to clone this repo rather than using tarballs to share source

finally!!!! someone alert alterbridge! cant wait for an OC/UV kernel for GB!

I'm ready to get this thing humming close to my mt4g and all will be well.

Nice grabbed it right now

Nice find. Going to port some goodies from imoseyou in the tb furom.

Aw yeah, it's about to get real for Tab's GB. OC, UV, ext4...

Source releasing usually allows help with porting... does this mean We might see some gingerbread on a CDMA tab!?..

Sweet.nice news

Samsung how about releasing the firmware first before you release the sourcecode we are all waiting for official gingerbread.

That's what I'm hoping! Maybe the wee bugs can be ironed out too, soon!
can we see some real hacks incorporated into the new custom ROMs here like wifi N hack & 720p hack & flash player full available with the froyo source code being released to AOSP ????
i am really waiting here so impatiently to have these 3 hacks on my desire.... kindly , any devs/mods here do something & serve us the dish which we always wanted to have on our cute lil baby ( desire )....pls.....

FROYO Petition

This is a P E T I T I O N / R E M I N D E R to Samsungs engineer´s/developer´s to boost them up and finally to show them HOW MUCH WE ARE WAITiNG FOR FROYO UPDATE to our lovely I9000 PHONE...
DONT LET THIS THREAD GO DOWN UNTIL WE´VE GOT IT!!!
Samsung have said Froyo will be released in late August to Korea, with other markets following shortly after.
?? for what should that post be usefull, Samsung already said that in August a Froyo Update will come, they only confirmed the korean version right now, but that doesn't mean that it won't come for other countries to, in the same time.
don't worry it's just a noob silly question ...
can someone close this topic please ???

Yeah he did with the Behold 2...wait no

Come on use a bit of brain power, why would they give the phone 512mb of ram if they weren't going to give it FROYO?

It's already been announced, so this thread is pointless.
Yeah, I know that. I'm just making the point that the phone was made with planning to get Froyo as an update by Samsung.
True, but that doesn't mean they will actually release it here. While I am quietly confident we will get it (by hook or by crook) the fact it has 512MB doesn't mean we are guaranteed to get it.
Wait, am I contradicting myself here? must be the booze...
Froyo has been allready confirmed by Samsung to be released in August for the korean market, so I am very confident that the international version of the SGS will get it shortly after.
A pedition for samsung to commit to post-froyo releases on the other hand could be more usefull.

Yes, lets start a petition for 3.0/Gingerbread instead.
2.2 is definitely coming. Samsung doesn't have a choice. They're selling too many of these phones in too many markets not to follow through with their promise this time around. With 300,000 phones sold in Korea, imagine the PR disaster they'd have on their hands.
More than a Froyo release, I'd rather they release the video drivers so we can get custom roms. We should make a petition for that too!
Better to wait 14 days more and have good stable rom than .having installed it full of bugs .Good work takes time .

It is pointless..we are getting new Froyo test firmware every day so far...which means they are working on it...even if everyone in the world pressures them to release it...they can't change the law of physics and program faster then possible...it needs to be thoroughly debugged and make sure no major issues remain.

[Q] Source

I have a question, while everyone says that to get cm7 we need to wait for official gb. I understand that but we got official froyo didn't we? how come we don't have cm6 if it was official froyo and i would think it came with source within 30 days?
By all means, dont take this as a rant, i was just curious.
The people working on cm6 didn't see any point in finishing the project even with source because gb and new source was supposedly around the corner. 6 months later, we still don't have gb, and imo may never, and cm6 is final. The real cyanogen team doesn't support 6 anymore afaik.

No I asked this same question the other day and a CyanogenMod dev said it was because we never got driver sources :/ supposedly were getting them with gb but if not its gonna be hit or miss every step of the way since building aosp roms w/o source is like navigating a maze in the dark.......

i thought they had to release source within 30 days? or is the driver source not part of that?
if they didn't release the driver source with official froyo release then they probably wont for gb, then its say bye bye to official cm -.-

Let's clear a something up.
Official Cyanogenmod is 100% possible WITHOUT source code/drivers/etc. it just is not a practical endeavor to begin the arduous process of writing drivers and an AOSP kernel from scratch when there is a very real chance of source code being released in the near future.

Yeah its not impossible dude, just like 063_XBOX said..... I thought my metaphor explained it pretty well .... its possible to navigate your way out of a maze in the dark.... it'll just be a pain in the ass running into walls the whole way through..... "if we don't get any source with gb, Id think we would have nightly builds within 2-3 months assuming everyone pitched in and we had our best devs on the job..... " everything in the quotes is speculation and my personal guess so take it with a grain of salt or not at all.....
Ninja Edit: and as for source being released within 30 days of rom release, that's only for the kernel (and maybe rom?, I don't think roms have source??? I could be wrong)...... but drivers are closed source, which means they aren't required by license to give out.....

Naw we have had quite a few devs working on it but one of them just so happened to answer me....
But when I say CM dev I mean someone who actually contributed to the projects and made some progress in getting something to work in one of the builds.....

New CM9 Tease Posted by RC for p930

If you haven't visited RC's page on google+, he just posted another tease on CM9 for us and said "just a couple more buglets to solve." Cross your fingers that we're getting close.
Edit: you can append anything to the url. No placeholder.
super cool considering cm9 is not available for very many devices right now.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow.

Too bad I'm selling the LG. Oh well, I'd like to see some vids once it's all said and done.
@scott, I don't look at CM as my saving grace for supplying an ICS ROM. There are countless others out there that have supplied an ICS ROM for various devices, some of them are actually more stable than the ICS Kang builds.
the man is evil giving us the teases....I want to be testing that rom.
a user asked him where he would be releasing the CM9 for our phone once it's ready, and he gave this:
http://get.cm/
So I say let's keep an eye on it
He was replying to the guy who asked where to find the CM9 public repo for the p990.
Yeah the P990 (G2X/O2X) has had Nightly CM9 builds for some time now.

A user.... ouch that I get denigrated to just A user...
That was me asking as I could never find any of his commits to the git repository. Still not sure if he has submitted anything yet, but I will get checking that link on a regular basis. I think I may also send a message to koush to see if he has what is needed to create CWM for our phones...
And he was replying to me - and I asked specifically about the 930. He +'d my name on the reply which is the only way I know he was talking with me...
even if cm9 for 930 publish, camera work fluently is or not is a big probrem
Man I can't wait for that to come out. I would figure our nitro would be a worthy candidate as its been pretty much made with ice in mind. Knowing att those jerks.....we wont get an official one till like the summer....if even then
Sent from my LG-P930 using XDA
According to the guys at the att store...that there is supposed to be a ics push sometime within the next 30 days....at least that is what they said when I bricked my phone and replaced it...they thought that maybe I got a push already...I kind of looked at them like they were crazy...then one said to the other that he read it in their "kms" system. When I worked for sprint KMS stood for Knowledge management system...it was essentially the end all be all of all possible knowledge about a phone or company policy.
I still think this is speculation and I won't say with 100 percent confidence that either of them were telling the truth.
If At&t does push ICS out, would that make it easier to compile CM9 for the VS920 (LG Spectrum)?
Amazing question I don't have a spectrum so I don't know

Spectrum is very similar (same SOC), but it uses a different radio (to account for CDMA). So unless the AT&T version of CM9 is specifically modded, it won't work for Spectrum.
There is now a placeholder on the CM mirror network. When available, downloads should show here.

"We want ChameleonOS to run on as many devices as possible and to do this we need help from the community. We're looking for those of you interested in being a device maintainer for devices we will support officially. For us to consider a device to be officially supported it must be able to be built using all of our projects found in the ChameleonOS repo manifest. Devices that require one or more stock projects to be removed and replaced by a modified version that allows the device to function correctly will interfere with our current build system. If this is the case, you are more than welcome to maintain your own unofficial builds
Since we originally based ChameleonOS off of CyanogenMod, any device that has official support for CM 10.1 will be easy to convert so that it builds for ChameleonOS. We'll be putting together an easy to follow guide on how to create the necessary projects to be merged into ChameleonOS in order to get your device into our system. In the mean time let me go over some of the requirements we have for individuals interested in being a device maintainer.
1.Familiarity with repo and git
2.Familiarity with the android build system and building a ROM from source code.
3.Know how to use gerrit code review and be able to submit patches to http://review.chameleonos.org
4.Able to debug, troubleshoot, and fix build issues.
5.Willing to keep all projects related to your device up to date and test new changes to verify everything is working as intended.
If you have a device that meets our requirements and you are willing and able to be a maintainer for a device please contact me 0xd34d(at)chameleonos[dot]org. Make sure to provide a couple of references to projects or work you have done that relates to android development. Some gerrit commits are always nice as well as links to threads for ROMs you have worked on. Please don't include any references to ROMs you may have ported. I've worked on ports myself but I don't consider the work done on a port comparable to working on a ROM from source.
Thanks in advance to all those that contact me!
