Change default Home Screen - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hi Folks,
im pretty new to the world of Androidphones.
i would like to set screen no.4 as default homescreen on my sgs2.
i found a tutorial for the sgs1 suggesting to edit the /system/default.prop
and uncomment and edit the following lines:
Code:
#sets TouchWiz Launcher default screen
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3
#sets TouchWiz Launcher screen count
ro.csc.homescreen.screencount=6
i managed to root the sgs2 and i opend the file but i just found a few header lines and no further lines.
Did major changes occur between sgs1 and sgs2 in this issue or is it safe for me to just add the lines without crashing the whole OS and making it impossible to fix a malfunction caused by those two lines.
Kind Regards

Download Go Launcher EX, this allows u to add infinite homescreens and set anyone as the default homescreen. Furthermore it has more features than touchwiz such as resizing Widgets, changing grid size, using custom fonts and icons etc.. nd is overall a better launcher

I hate it, when people ask a question about a specific launcher and other people recommend their favorite launcher...
We all know, there are ADW, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, Zeam, ... and most of them have more features than TWLauncher. BUT: There are people that want to use TWLauncher nevertheless and all the other launchers are not able to use the Samsung widgets...
To answer galaxy_42 question:
Code:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=2
still works. You have to enter the screen number -1, if you want screen 3 as your default homescreen you have to enter ...defaultscreen=2
ro.csc.homescreen.screencount did not work for me, but you can delete screens (or add up to 7) when you pinch-to-zoom on one of the homescreens.
I use 5 homescreens, with the 3rd one as default.

everybody already knows other launchers.no need to talk about alternates.he is just asking about default launcher which the answer is important for me as well.

I don't get it....
I have 3 homescreens, so what Line do I have to add to make the middle screen (screen 2) my homescreen?
Because ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=2 does nothing for me....

always the screen you want minus 1.
If you have 3 screens and want the middle screen, which is screen number 2, you have to enter

Hmmm did a reboot. But it did not work.
Well I'm on Launcher pro now, so for now it's not an issue anymore

GO Launcher EX

So far I have been unimpressed by most of the launchers out there.
By far the best in my opinion for S2 is the free Go Launcher EX
I also have the go keyboard, go calendar and black icon theme installed.
Here's some screen captures.

Running on Orange UK stock but rooted
Very smooth in operation
Agreed. I am a paid Launcher Pro user since the Captivate but Go Ex has won me over for sure. VERY nice.
same here. i m using the same and i think its the best launcher out there. actually its a supremely modded version of touchwiz. i have more than 30 premium themes installed. but i think it drains the battery a lot. wat u think
Hey raze1000, please share your wallpaper. I really like it!
Wow! @raze1000, your customisations look really awesome!
Here ya go
Agree that this is the best launcher. I have paid launcher pro and ADW launcher but this sweeps the floor with both of them.
I really like Go Launcher too, but has anyone found a solution to the problem when you freeze apps with Titanium Backup, as it still shows the link in the app drawer albeit as a broken link and not the proper icon?
When you freeze in the stock launcher and other launchers it removes the icons.
Does anyone else have lag when sliding trough screens on this launcher please? I never had any lag on my old desire, and I have the exact same set up, such as widgets and amount of screens on both.

Just tried again. Does not matter which ROM or which version of Go Launcher (daily updates sometimes) whenever I freeze an app it leaves a dead link in the app drawer, even after resets or opening and closing the Launcher itself. You must have a different setting somewhere in the options maybe?
Just tried Go Launcher .. and my stand-by current went from 10mA to 70mA.

All u need to do is go into edit mode which is the mode used for moving apps around the app drawer! In order to go into edit mode, all you need to do is long-press any icon of any app in the app drawer. Then click on the small red cross of in the top right corner of the dead link and you will receive a notification that that this app cannot be found, and whether you would like to remove it from the app drawer. Simply click yes Done!

Would also known if somebody expect the same... Me using the launcher quite long, but if this should be true ...
WoW!
I like this clock widget! What is that? Is a Go Weather skin?
Thanks
I find the app drawer responsiveness to be better with Launcher Pro. I set it to fade in at the slowest value too, and it's smooth as anything.
The app drawer on Go Launcher EX seems choppy to draw and also tends to reload the icons on occasion. Also, the custom icons I use for the dock bar take a while to load on first boot whereas with Launcher Pro they're in place when the OS has loaded.
I only use Go Launcher EX because the widget resize option comes as standard where Launcher Pro must be paid for. I am using a 10 rows by 5 column desktop layout.

also I forgot to add if you would like to see this work with launchers like apex or nova to get more of an ics feel you should go vote on their suggestion sites

and here http://apexlauncher.uservoice.com/forums/146396-general-feedback

Working on a new work around for this, and it should also improve battery life, and possibly amount of time to set up (for everyone but me). The basic idea is this, instead of using a widget to cover up the home screen icons, edit your wallpaper to cover up the icons and have that as the style instead. I havent had much time to work with this yet but i will hopefully get this up and running soon. But i have tested and the shortcuts do survive a wipe if you just backup adw, so you shouldnt have to do any work to set this up after flashing things.
created a work around heres the background... image still needs some editting as it does not like up quiet right with actions

What you have to do is resize it to cover over it and that is how you move it over. The youtube video is a bit better to see how to do this.

Vertical scrolling launcher

I created some image tiles for my home screen; something similar to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
However I'm trying to make it function more like the Android Market home screen, where you scroll vertically as opposed to horizontally.
I'm using Go Launcher EX and as far as I've gathered none of the launchers I've tried have the option to scroll vertically.
Does anyone know of any launchers that have that ability?
Nice!

I tried Win 7 Launcher previously but you're only limited to tiles 1x1 or 1x2 & some of the tiles that come preconfigured are locked onto the screen (i.e you can't remove them).
Actually what I'm doing is nothing really more then creating tiles & placing them onto the screen. I wish though that I did know how to create a launcher, I'm just using a pre-existing one, though none have the vertical scrolling feature that I would like.
Can you decompile it make the necessary mods repack sign and test? I know I am making it sound easy. I know nothing of developing so I can be of much help.

Well it is a vertical launcher but after messing with it for awhile it does not allow me to remove the preset icons (you can only remove ones you create) & if using tiles you cannot get them to align in such a manner that they touch end to end. I was hoping to use the launcher to create tiles of my own using Desktop Visualizer. This is what I have created using Go Launcher, just want the home screens to scroll vertically. My ultimate goal is to create a home screen that scrolls vertically & create something that looks very similar to the Android Market:
I have send an email to the golauncher developers too and vot one back. But i think it's just a standard reply so i don't expect any luck there
EL TEJANO i want exactly the same thing. I've spend so many hours on the Internet searching with no luck. It's getting frustrating. I really hope golauncher or any other good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro can add this function
So this thread is dead now?

There should be no dependencies.
However try integrating it into the firmware (it was designed to work from /system/app)- ICS does restrict launcher behaviour if it is not a system app (like for Apex- you can't put a widget from Drawer if it's a user app)

No, it is for all screen sizes (well, maybe except qvga but I didn't test this)
Like Trebuchet Concept, Looking Forward
Once I figured out how to use it, I kind of like the minimalist approach. Dragging app icons and widgets to the screens is much quicker than click, click, find, click, ... and the widget re-sizing dot feature touted in Jellybean is already there (but can be applied asymmetrically for some strange results).
However, this thing is still primitive. No properties except wallpapers.
I put on adw (former XDA launcher) just to have a more usable system. I do not look for fancy eye-candy like go. Just some simple properties like:
Grid density--I like fitting more icons on the page (I find the adw refitting not the best so leave that unchecked).
Along with this, might need the widget auto-refit idea from Jellybean.
Number of home screens (elementary).
Last but not least, a backup and restore.
Another interesting idea I got by accident in another launcher: superimpose icon over larger widget. When clicked, takes precedence, of course. Since screen real-estate, especially in smaller phones, is at a premium, this could be a "killer."
Two bugs I found:
Possible to place two icons in same place on app bar. Embarrassing.
Widgets did not "come back" after reboot sometimes.
Got a Nice Version!
There are multiple versions around for download, without any systematic way of choosing other than: The Biggest Has More Features Implemented. I found a 10 meg version in a flash-able zip that has most of what I wanted already there!
Still needs a backup and save, and important: way of resetting as the default launcher
The general widget re-sizing works great, even re-positioning to a halfway spot so the re-sizing makes sense. Great.
Minor bugs around:
The news and weather widget re-sizing works incorrectly. ADW does it fine.
Icon label text is cut off (at least on 5-row view). Vertical padding makes it worse. Needs be tucked in closer to the icon.
I might assume that a somewhat larger apk is around somewhere with more features and fixes. Once I can get it again as default launcher, I will play with it some more.
It did not passed on my 7 inch tablet :-( There is margins at the bottom and top with a height of regular icon size.

[MOD] Stock JB Launcher (various mods)

I couldn't find any stock launcher mods that were simply a single homescreen and/or rotation enabled. After poking around enough I've managed to create them!
Note: These are not flashable zips. I recommend pushing them through ADB.
Single Screen
Single Screen mods require you to disable "Automatically add widget." in market settings. Not doing so will cause force closes when a new app is downloaded.

Sorry I couldn't get rid of the overscroll effects on the single screen. I'm still working on that!
If you have any feedback other than "just use nova or apex launcher" please leave it! I'll take any advice or suggestions.
does stock w/rotation enabled still have the persistent search bar?
if so, speaking for myself, i wouldn't mind having stock w/rotation, no persistent search bar (both in portrait and landscape).
for what it's worth.
thanks!

Done!
The Single Screen mods current have a bug where they crash when an app is installed and a widget is automatically placed on the homescreen by the market. Disable this though the market while I attempt to resolve the issue...
Main post updated to reflect this.

You're welcome! I just wish I could fix the reason for the force close on single screen launchers. There is a good work-around but I hate work-arounds.
My only thought was to delete every reference to the screen IDs beyond the one I left in then delete the public.xml and let it rebuild itself, but that caused a force close on boot.
Can i install the last APK (i assume is i9250 JB Stock Launcher) to a Galaxy S3 i9300 with 4.1.1 ?
I don't believe so but you can give it a try. If I am thinking correctly the application was built using the framework of the Galaxy Nexus.

I'm not experienced with Launchers but tried to install the .apk and said "Unable to install".
So i think is not possible!
Can we get a stock, no search bar only version?
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks for these, nice work!
Only thing I'd want added was swipe down on homescreen to pull down status bar - is that possible? It's the only reason I use a custom launcher, would just stick with stock otherwise

I'm not even sure how to go about that. What I've done is essentially change existing coding or remove things. I don't know about about smali to add actions.
I want the clock
