[Q] Disable multitouch gestures in Google Maps - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
short question, search didn't come up with somethink useful:
is it possible to disable the multitouch-gestures in google maps?
When I pinch-to-zoom in Maps, the app sometimes accidentaly recognizes it as the rotate-gesture, which doesn't work properly on the desire, so this is quite annoying as it is almost impossible to realign the view to the north-south.
I remember this feature not being active on Auraxtsense (at least I didn't come across this bug). Now I am using Oxygen (2.0.3).
Is there a way to disable the rotation in google Maps?

You can tap on the compass icon at top left to re-align map to north-south. I don't think there is a way to disable the rotation.

uhm, thanks, I somehow missed that

HTC compass

I've been looking on my device for the compass. I can't find the application anywhere. Could someone point me to where it is in the menu please?
Is it supposed to come with a compass app? There's no such app on my phone...
Why don't you just download one of the compass apps from Market?
Nothing built in, just get Compass from the market.

the compass is their (built-in), check the specs. but if you want to utilize it you will have to install an App!
for google maps use the following
Looking at a location in Street View
Street View mode (available only in selected areas) provides a street-level view of the
location.
1. Do one of the following:
Touch and hold a location on the map, and then tap the balloon that appears.
Search for the place you want to view. See “Searching for a location” in this chapter for
details. When you find the place, tap its balloon.
2. On the location details screen, tap Street view.
3. To navigate in Street View, do any of the following:
Swipe your finger on the screen or the optical trackball to pan up or down or to look in
other directions.
Tap the displayed arrows to move up and down the street.
Press MENU to select from other navigation options.
**While viewing a Street View of a location, press MENU and then tap Compass mode to turn Compass
mode on. Tilt, pan, or turn your phone to view the area around the selected location.
Click to collapse
GoogleMaps has support for the compass from the off, you just need to enable it in Labs... turns the pointless dot into a useful arrow.
Quick note to say thanks to Rusty and irkan. I was wondering why the compass wasn't working in Google Maps and couldn't find the option to turn it on anywhere!
The compass is great, coming from a HD I thought it wasn't worth it but WOW, now I know where to walk rather than just walk like a headless chicken in hope

[Q] Stopping auto rotate to the right

Hi
Is there any way of stopping my Desire auto rotating the screen to the right (as per the Froyo update)?
Thanks
Not within the ROM, no. You may be able to achieve it with a rooted custom ROM though.
Not sure if it's anywhere else, but what you can do is download "MySettings" and disable "auto rotate" there .. that's what I use when I am in bed browsing and don't want the screen to auto rotate
There is already an option at "Menu/Settings/Display", just unmark Auto-rotate checkbox, you dont need to use any 3rd party app to do it.
But if your question is about whether it is possible to stop rotating only for clockwise, I think it is not possible.

I'd like to know that as well, I find the new auto rotate clockwise quite annoying
I got so annoyed with so many bugs with Froyo that I sent them to HTC. Please send HTC a message that we want more options regarding the rotation etc.
Until then, buy "extended control" and add the widget to your homescreen and stop the rotation when ever you like and with ease.

I love that widget. So many options <3

Premium navigation refuses to go landscape

i have problem that the premium navigation in car panel wont go landscape, the auto-rotate option is already enabled and everything will go landscape as i rotate the phone EXCEPT Premium Navigation
Not everything will go landscape (or portray). Most games actually stay landscape. An app can choose whether it listens to the user setting or enforces a certain orientation. This obviously because some apps are not suitable to run in some orientation. The only thing you can do it notify the developer of that you like to have this app or certain parts to be able to be in landscape mode.
Unfortunately premium navigation doesn't go landscape. Bit of an oversight if you ask me. Every other navigation app seems to.

has anyone found the solution?

[Q] GPS Audible/Vibration notification lock

Hello, i'd like to ask a question...
Is there a application or any other way to notify me when GPS locks position?

I need to geotag pictures with camera app but in 4.2.1 JB there is no icon to show if
GPS have locked my location.
Thank you in advance

[Question] Launch Google Now Voice Search from Off Screen with Gesture?

The HTC One M8 has a really useful function (well almost really useful)...
It allows you to swipe down on the screen when it's off to launch voice actions. Unfortunately it launches HTC Sense's voice actions and not Google Now. Was hoping the feature would be in GPe but it's not.
Is this possible to create through an Xposed module or by some other means?

I'd be interested in this feature too, only I would use it to launch autovoice recognition (works offline)
Anyway being able to do this would be great.
InsertCoin settings allows to reassign the gesture, but you still have to unlock the screen, as it is considered as launching an app...

Yes, as I stated you can use InsertCoin gestures remap, and Sense 6 toolbox xposed module also supports gesture reassign.
If you want to use autovoice, you have to export the Voice recognition task as an app with Tasker app factory.
To bypass the lockscreen, you can use another xposed module called "quick access" to allow autovoice to run over the lockscreen.
Hope this helps It works perfectly for me.
Next step : Autovoice from closed dotview case!
