Hi Guys,
Just a quick note to give everyone on this forum a BIG thumbs up. I've been lurking around here for quite some time but only really got into it over the last week or so.
Just in the last 3 days I must have flashed my DHD a good 20 times and with all the advice and help available here it's getting really easy. I've gone from RUU to full on custom ROM's and I'm loving it.
I think I can honestly say that I have found my favorite pastime (next to riding my Super Bike *snicker*).
Anyhoooo, enough waffling from me.... another ROM just finished downloading so back to flashing *uncontrolled evil laugh*

I just came across in the market here on XDA. That Tiffany. The mother of the best theme on here for our phone ( nothing but the honey) is having to sell here phone to help pay for her back surgery. This will be in my eyes a great loss to our community. I would love for some help on getting a donation post set up to either buy her another phone or just to help with her bills so she can keep deving for this phone.
Any help would be most appreciated. I have no idea how to do this myself. Go forth and get the word out troops. Lets do some good for a super sweet person.

I don't really know what to say besides thank you. I've never in my life had a group of people do something like this for me. I've been scared to death, as I have a family to take care of and the surgery seems risky. Either way I know I have a lot of your support and prayers and I'll get through it. Thanks again and as long as I'm capable I'll still be working. I've been in a tremendous amount of pain but I love making something that you guys will appreciate. It's the reason why I continue to do it is for people like all of you.

Hello again everyone. It has been a long few months. I had hoped that I would be back in the community by now but some things have been keeping me back. My mother has been having medical issues for a while now and I have been going through some desperate financial times. This was going on while I was active also I just didn't say anything. And I am embarrassed and hate that I have to do this now.
Well here it is. I need $50,000 to save my home. So I am asking that if you can spare anything to please send it to my paypal [email protected]. I am not into the social media thing so if you can spread the word to friends and family I would greatly appreciate it. If I don't get enough to save my home I will return all of the money. If you prefer to loan the money to me I will work as hard as possible to pay it back as quickly as I can. Just send me an email so we can work out the details.
I am really sorry for coming at you all like this but I don't know what else to do. If this is breaking the forum rules I deeply apologize and hope that you can understand my circumstances.
On a better note, I hope to have a computer setup in the next week or two. I see ALOT of things have changed since I have been out, and it might take a little bit to get back into the swing of things, but hope to be contributing again soon.

Unfortunately, I realized it wasn't. It may or may not be against "forum" rules, but it's definitely against "things that are done" rules. Seriously, coming onto a smartphone forum/community and hitting the public up for 50 THOUSAND dollars???

This week, I'm moving into a MUCH smaller home, because I seriously fell behind on my house note, and yes, the bank repossessed it, and it sucks, and it is happening all over the place. I did my best to come up with the shortage (the bank wanted the full amount, so it was more than 50k), but finally, I accepted my fate and am trying to get through a tough situation by dealing with the things I can control, and disregarding the things I cannot. However, throughout the last ~4 months I tried to save the house, not ONCE did the thought ever even enter my brain that it'd be an OK idea to come on XDA (or any social site for that matter) and flat-out ask other people to give me THEIR money so I could solve MY problem. I just don't get that at all.
Look, I'm sorry you're having a rough time: I really am....
But this isn't the place to ask for financial aid. Man up and deal with it the best you can, and keep the talk around here about Android, and Roms, and ICS, and yadayadayada.... That's what it's meant for, nothing else.

He didn't ask for 50,000 dollars. He said that was what he needed to save his house. If it was someone else, any of the contributors in this community I would have not even given it a thought. But given the amount of time he has spent here and the things that he has done I could stand to give a couple bucks. I can already tell you the likely hood of making the amount in donations from people who have used his work or been helped by him is not going to happen. That doesn't mean the freeloaders can't chip in.
If people want to help out someone who has spent time helping make the E4GT community (and much further back) what it is then they can feel free to donate. If it is seen as something against the rules the moderators will deal with it as well.
I need $30,000 to pay off my student loans and another $7,000 to pay off my car! Please donate to me

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's illness and hope she is on the mend and feel for you with your financial issues.
Have you checked into the programs available to homeowners to help with mortgage issues? I don't own a home so I'm not intimately familiar with them but perhaps your lender could point you in the right direction or maybe you could find something via Google.
I hope your situation improves soon. If I find out anything that might assist you I'll pass it along and will keep you and your family in my thoughts.

I am terribly sorry that you had to go through that and certainly understand your opinion on the matter. I would gladly "man up" if it were only about me. But I have children to consider and I am trying my best to keep them from being impacted by this. And I will do whatever I can to keep that from happening. To me that is "manning up" but that is just my opinion. And maybe you have kids also. I am only stating where I am coming from. Trust me, I don't like this any more than you do. Plus I am not asking for a handout. If someone is capable of loaning me the money I am more than happy to pay it back. So if this offends you or you just simply don't want anything to do with it then please just ignore it. Negative comments aren't necessary.

I'm really sorry to hear about your financial troubles, and I hope everything takes a turn for the positive for you and your family. I do agree that this is most definitely not the place to be coming to for help like this but you know something? I would do the exact same thing if I was in your shoes so f*ck 'em. It takes a real man to swallow his pride and ask for help especially among your peers that have as much respect for you as this forum does. It shows that you are humble and will do what you can to take care of your family, even it just means asking a bunch of anonymous internetters for a little help. Unfortunately, all I can offer you are these words, so I wish you the best of luck and again I hope things turn around for you.

Okay, fair enough. Maybe I was just venting my frustration over losing almost 10 years of equity.. I DO know what you're going through though... If you do come to the realization that the mortgage isn't going to be extended, and it does go in to repossession, I CAN give you a lot of good advice on how to still occupy the home for a lot longer than you might think. The bank will make it sound like they're gonna kick you out on the street. They can't do that, if you take advantage of a few laws that they must abide by. You can do all this without a lawyer, if you'd like more details, pm me. (For example, my house was sold back to the bank in November, but for a while, it looked like they were going to allow me to reinstate my mortgage.. That didn't end up happening, and I'm moving this week, but it's been almost 7 months since the house was actually repossessed, and STILL not one person from the bank has demanded that we leave.. That's a lot of time to get a new head start, even if you can't save your home... Like I said, PM me if you need that kind of advice.

Not to sound like a d-bag, but if your in such dire straits why are you worrying about getting a computer and deving? That sound like you have your priorities all wrong. You shouldn't be worrying about a computer at all unless it makes you money in some way or fashion. I do appreciate all the work you've done for us but really you should get all this sorted before you even think about contributing again.

Always man! Sadly, as part of the deal to get out of my contract ETF free I had to send my phones back to sprint. I will, however, be a member of the IRC channels and will be there to bug you still!

I have sold my device back to sprint and I recently bought the RAZR Maxx on Verizon. I travel ALOT for my job and the nationwide sprint network was just too terrible as far as data and cell coverage, its sad because Sprint was my first cell company 10 years ago....smh.
I'll probably get the RAZR HD when it comes out..I know i could've waited...but my sprint situation reached critical mass...and I HAD to switch. You guys are all rockstars from mars...rock on dudes...rock on. :good::good:

OK I try to avoid these conversations and not respond. But come on. This is the General section. He is not trolling with some worthless garbage that many people tend to post. He is saying goodbye to a community that he has been a part of and thanking people at the same time. He has not attacked, harassed or complained about anything. He has not posted something that has been posted 100 times. And he has posted in the correct location. So if he wishes to express himself so be it. If you don't like what he is posting move on. There is no need to disrespect someone for sharing their thoughts and/or feelings.
If I left for another phone I would probably do the same thing. Because it is a community. I try to help people in my community, be it virtual or real, in any way that I can. So I don't see anything off the wall with someone saying goodbye to their community and showing gratitude for anyone that has helped them. Yes the thanks button works and yes I use it all the time. But sometimes a written message, that takes an effort to write out and that shows a thanks coming directly from you, is much better than a click of a button.
I think we should all lighten up a bit. Sometimes we take things way to serious.

OK I try to avoid these conversations and not respond. But come on. This is the General section. He is not trolling with some worthless garbage that many people tend to post. He is saying goodbye to a community that he has been a part of and thanking people at the same time. He has not attacked, harassed or complained about anything. He has not posted something that has been posted 100 times. And he has posted in the correct location. So if he wishes to express himself so be it. If you don't like what he is posting move on. There is no need to disrespect someone for sharing their thoughts and/or feelings.
If I left for another phone I would probably do the same thing. Because it is a community. I try to help people in my community, be it virtual or real, in any way that I can. So I don't see anything off the wall with someone saying goodbye to their community and showing gratitude for anyone that has helped them. Yes the thanks button works and yes I use it all the time. But sometimes a written message, that takes an effort to write out and that shows a thanks coming directly from you, is much better than a click of a button.
I think we should all lighten up a bit. Sometimes we take things way to serious.

I would like to agree and I would back every word written above.
As a member of this community who tries to do something for our phones (I won't call myself a dev yet) I really like to see some posts and not just the tnank you count. It helps me to keep up with what I'm doing and continue doing it.
It shows me that my work is needed and wanted and IMHO without that feeling I don't know how long I would of done all this.
And I can't imagine a single person who would not appreciate simple warm words and a "thank you" message for work done and for effort and time invested in something.
And one question at the end.

Well maybe we should start a poll? I have zero talent in this area so if someone else could do that i would hit their thank you button. Hey, how come this guy didn't thank Jay or did he and i missed it? When you really want to thank someone, you do it one on one so you can look them in the eye,shake their hand, or even pm someone so they really understand you mean it.When you do it in a room full of people it's called grandstanding. You get to tell your story and then others can look at you and go "ain't that nice" so it's actually for the person saying thank you not for the person being thanked. So it's more of a drama thing than anything else. Not that i meant that's what the op was doing, I'm sure he\she was genuine.
Banter is just that.....it goes back and forth. Kind of like a volley in tennis. However, I was raised to praise in public and criticize in private. To each their own...:good:
