Can anyone recomend a replacement for the standard stero handsfree kit that comes with the MDA Pro.
I've seen these http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/10098.htm, but was wondering if anyone knew of any better ones?
I'm also looking for such a headset. The one on your links looks nice, but is there a volume control on it? I can't see that.
The one in mobilefun.co.uk is just the same as the one came from the box.
There is no other alternative so far I could find....

Yeah, the headset fits without any problem.
That is the same as the HP Ipaq 54xx/55xx/63xx/65xx, Toshiba e75x/80x.
Although its a bit expensive, USD33 including postage....

Just out of curiousity, what happened to your hands free kit that came with the unit, guys?
The original one comes with the package is excellent except that it is too lengthy and the pair of earphones always messes with others.
I would like to have a single lead earphone that I can change to stereo when I want.
So, the one that I just got is perfect but it is quite easily to be damage....

I have one of this headset that I bought few years ago for my XDA/Wallaby (with the 2.5mm plug). Yes, its very easy to be damaged (very delicate) but yet mine is still functional until now. Some part of the wire is already torn and I have to put some tape on it.
I use it mainly to connect my XDA/Wallaby to my car stereo system.
Thanks that you share this info, now I know that there is a suitable version for the Universal as well.
Do you mind to confirm back that the headset indeed works perfectly with the Universal:
1. The call answer button
2. The microphone
3. Volume control
4. The stereo jack

What special practice do you need?
I sticked my old one (for the XDA) in my car dashboard near the stereo system. So when the phone rings, I just press it once and the call then will be in the car speakers. The microphone is not that great, ppl usually complaint me that my voice is so low, but guess what, they indeed can hear me.

This is exactly what I'm trying to set up in my car,how do I do it? I tried using a splitter (one 3.5 mm male plug with two female 3.5mm openings) and running one end to my car stereo, and the audio from the call comes through the car speakers nicely but I can't use either the mic from the included (in the box) headset for voice nor will the device's mic work...

I would be interested. The headset supplied is not very good: the earpieces don't stay in place to get the best sound and the wires are to 'wirey', ie they're not soft enough, and they don't lay straight.
I had seen before someone had taken the Nokia hands-free headphones (similar to the Universals, with a central piece with a mic and button on) and they manages to fit a tiny 2.5mm stereo socket in it, so any standard headphones would plug in. But on the Universals, I don't think there's room.
www.remtrak.com sell 4-way Jack Plugs (3.5MM Angled or Straight) so we could feasibly manufacture our own, with the corrct pin out.

I am looking to buy stereo bluetooth headset for HD2. I want earbuds, not over the head. Sony Ericsson ds980 got my attention, and also cheaper models like Plantronics Pulsar 260 and Sony DRBT100CX, but ds980 is my first pick so far.

I have a Magic and I am using this: Bluetooth Nokia BH-214.
Back then I was using HBH-DS970, great sound and good bluetooth performance but the plastic mesh sleeve covering the lanyard part going to the receiver "shrinks" after a few months, exposing the actual wire cables in a "pulled-out" state. If the HBH-DS980 has the same mesh sleeves, I wouldn't recommend it for you.
An alternative is HBH-DS205 which I had next. It has more stable bluetooth connection and longer battery life than DS970/DS980 and its older brothers, DS200 and DS220. Though it doesn't come with in-ear set rather with a standard Bass Reflex earphones, but you have the freedom to use any earphones in the market that has 3.5mm jack. Its only drawbacks are, one, the LCD functions only as a battery/pairing-mode indicator and it doesn't lit up, two, it only has one slider control for both volume and skip track function. But for me it was a good trade-off since it's more convenient to use.
Another alternative choice is the one I have now, a Jabra BT3030. It has complete function controls for music and calls, comes with decent 3.5mm in-ears, and has two options for wearing it, either it be by lanyard or by clip-on. Only drawback I can think of is that it has no screen, which is in my opinion better as LCD screens only add up to battery consumption. Another bonus is that it comes with microUSB port and charger, which you may use to charge your phone with and vice versa. Though these chargers have different ampere output and not entirely recommendable to interchanging use, its a good feel having similar chargers amongst your gadgets, especially when situations that you need them most arise.

also have a pair of altec lansing 903 - also good sound (not as good as the S9) but better comfort

Get the motorola s9-hd, briefly the best in all aspects amongst all.
I've been using Moto S9s and love em. Great while I'm working out and controls are simple and easy to activate.

You want the best, then you should buy a Sennheiser MM450 Travel. It's kinda expensive but it has the best sound in the market.

Hi Guys, is anyone using the JVC HA-W700BT with their HD2. I need to know if it's fully compatible with the HD2 as I know many of you are having compatibility issues with HD2 and Bluetooth Headsets.

I'm pretty unsure as well. I dont think I want the motorola s9 cause I just dont want a pair of headphones... I've been looking at the Jabra BT8010 and the Altec Lansing Backbeat 903. Both are basically double bluetooths that still have the mic in your ear.
The Jabra's second earpiece detaches which is nice when you just want the BT part in your ear.
But I've heard the 903's earphones fit much nicer in your ear and the strap around the back is nice plus mic quality is suppose to be great.
On the other hand there are a couple units out there that are tabs that you wear around your neck that have a headphone slot...those are pretty nice...but I think I have my choice narrowed down to one of those two.
Just a final question has anyone used either of these two with a newer android device. I'm getting a samsung galaxy s and I'm hoping it works well with it.
I just bought a different set of headphones for use with my S3, but I miss having the pause/play and volume buttons on the headphone cable. Does anybody know of a male-male or a male-female cable that will provide these buttons? My headphones have a 3.5mm female jack on the bottom of them so I would prefer a male-male cable, plus that would also work for when I am playing music on my phone in my car, it would be nice to not have to use the touchscreen for pausing / skipping tracks.
There are a few about - search on Google for "phone control headphone adapter" - but you may also want to consider the Sony Ericsson MW600. It works via Bluetooth rather than wire, but it has all the controls you're after and more. Fairly well priced, too, and I can confirm it works with the S3.
Only difficulty for you will be your wish to have a male jack - that's a pretty unusual combination. Most adapters will have a female jack for you to plug a standard set of headphones into it.
have you used the mw600's ? sound quality? anyone have a source for a nice short LOUD single earbud with a short leash to use with this as a headset (not legal to have 2 buds in most states not safe either)

I can vouch for the MW600's sound quality. It's excellent, and the signal strength on the WiFi is very good even when the phone is in my backpack with the MW600 clipped to my coat front. Only one caveat - the lead from standard headphones will end up being quite long if you clip the MW600 at chest height or above, so you'll have a fair amount of slack to deal with. I just stuff it into my inside pocket.

Bluetooth solutions are not ideal since they then have batteries that also need to be charged and typically cannot be charged and used at the same time (not to mention for decent quality ones that sound good the price is higher than I would like to spend). That radioshack cable is interesting, I have been searching around for other cables like that and have turned up a few possibilities. Have any of you guys bought any of these cables and can give a review or opinions about which ones are good?
I have a feeling that this is something that is actually quite common but "hard to find" since it uses generic search terms (try finding the little gizmo that lets you insert a full size SD card into a Micro SD Card slot hehe common and about $4-$5 but hard to find since any search terms you use to find it finds you "other" things

I used to have a Sony Ericsson walkman phone back in the old days. It has a headset that consists of two parts:
--one cable that connects the phone with the microphone/controller/standard 3,5mm jack socket
--a quality earplug with standard 3,5 jack plug, can be connected to the socket of the mic.
I am particularly interested in the mic+controls+socket item, do you have information about anything like this for android? Preferably with 3 buttons. This way I could use any earphone with it - I have some old quality ones, among them the Sony Ericsson one.

Thanks! I will stay tuned for your review, this is definitely something similar to what I was thinking about, so it is a good start.
However, I would be quite interested in simpler solutions - no fuss, just cable, controller and mic.
