[Q] How do I disable auto-orientation wallpaper? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I mean, I understand why the background auto-rotate when we tilt the phone. When accelerometer detect the phone tilt, the screen tilt and the background tilt w/ it. And that's kinda make sense. But, the problem is when you have a tight crop person as a background, and set the background to be non-scrolling. Then I think it's obvious that the background want to be set static in a certain way. Currently I have not found a way to lock the background wallpaper. I mean as I rotate the screen I want everything else to rotate and get landscape/portrait UI as necessary, but the background remain the same whether portrait or landscape. Well, I have yet to found a way. The only thing I came across is to disable accelerometer, but that's not very a solution. Anyone know how to do this?
Thank you,

The only thing I can think of is to find an app on the market that will manage your wallpapers for you. I know they have apps that will set a seperate wallpaper for each homescreen, so maybe there's one that allows seperate wallpapers for both portrait and landscape.
As far as finding a checkbox in Android to do this, there isn't one.

Gyrator 2 Settings

Im not sure where the settings for gyrator controled events are stored, but if there is such a location could you help share your settings so we can all get a better grip of this great app?
I've tried adding some Events myself, but ive not been very successful.
Could someone help me get Gyrator to do some of the following:
* When TOMTOM is being used, I would like the screen to rotate landscape or portrait respective to the appropiate angle the HD is faced. However, I would like the rotation to stay fixed once the stylus is inserted. The rotation direction should only be able to change when the stylus is removed. (This should help me lock the screen to a landscape direction if needed or portrait if needed, and not have to worry about bumps in the road flipping my screen all over the place when driving.)
* When Windows Media Player is being used, I would like Gyrator not to rotate the screen whatsoever, because the WMP app seems to have G-Sen rotation already built in, and with Gyrator running, the phone gets very confused, and tries to show my video in lanscape on the portrait facing screen, thus chopping off half of the video)
* if anyone can suggest any other usefull Events that they've found useful, please let me know too (and if possible, let me know how to do it)?
Thanks.
BTW, ive looked at the Gyrator website, and their instructions are not the easiest to follow. (oh, and I find Gyrator 2 to be a much better app than the alternatives, hence why I am sticking with it - hoping I will learn how to use it much better)
Cheers.

Thanks, that helped wonders!

[Q] Slow Screen Orientation Rotation?

Running a non-rooted G2.
Anyone else notice sluggish screen rotation when going from landscape to portrait or vice versa? It seems like it takes over 1s to switch, closer to 1.5s I would say just trying to count out loud.
The only running apps I have besides the stock ones are Tasker, LauncherPro Plus, Beautiful Widgets (1 large widget on homescreen), BattStat, and SwiftKey.
Any way to adjust the speed at which the screen switches orientation?
Thanks
LP+ does have its moments where it slows down. Original launcher is nicee enough no need to replace it
I've noticed a couple glitches related to this now that I've rooted. It's slow, then it shows the icons and even on screen keyboard in smashed or stretched pixels before it changes orientation. Just for a split second but it's annoying and never did it before.
Yeah, I don't know why the automatic screen rotation is so slow with LauncherPro.
My solution for now was to disable the auto rotate under LauncherPro's Behavior Settings.
The G2 switches instantly to landscape mode for you once you slide out the physical keyboard. No lag this way, but you don't get it to change orientation unless you slide out the keyboard.
I've noticed this too! I thought I was the only one. The funny thing is that when you're in a program that needs the accelerometer there is no lag, but on homescreen there is that slight delay when rotating from portrait to landscape.
I've had this issue with SF, corrected by setting desktop scrolling speed to 0 on ADW launcher setting.
Not sure if this will work on your device.

Force youtube into landscape with orientation lock?

Hey guys,
I like to lock my screen orientation to portrait for mostly everything. Games and landscape apps override this which is fine.
The youtube app for some reason is stuck in portrait (it used to switch easily in CM9 on my old i9000m).
So I have to disable orientation lock for videos.
Is there anyway to force certain apps to disregard the orientation lock? I know CM9 has it, but I'm quite happy with the touchwiz features and don't want to switch.
I also want to know about this. My GS1 does it with orientation locked. Wish I could here too

I am still trying to figure out how to play in full screen portrait mode - somewhat like the full screen zoom option native in IOS -
Thought I could do anything I wanted the phone to do with Android.. lol maybe not -

JB Aspect free cropping [UPDATED 2013/06/22]

Available on Play.
This is an small app that lets you crop an image freely when trying to set the wallpaper or lock screen background.
In the Jelly Bean stock and stock-based ROMs, is not possible to properly set the home and lock screen wallpapers, due to a nice new feature of keeping the crop box aspect fixed to a square, but the area to be cropped is a smaller rectangle.
When trying to set the lock screen wallpaper with a portrait image, the always squared crop box touches the lateral borders of the image, forcing you to select a much smaller area -possibly scaling the picture-, and thus leaving us in a less than optimal situation, unhappy with our powerful pocket computer that could do much better with such a trivial task.
This lazily done app comes as an option when you try to set a wallpaper, and just calls the stock Gallery app with a crop action without the aspectX and aspectY parameters that lock the aspect of the crop box.
Note: This app needs the stock Gallery or Note 2 Gallery.
UPDATE:
2013/16/22 [v1.51]
- Fixed character encoding error in image paths.
- Other minor fixes.
2013/06/09 [v1.5]
- Prevents hiding part of wallpaper behind status bar.
- Lock screen wallpaper can be cropped to any size.
- Can work with AOSP's Gallery.
- Launcher icon with settings for some of the above features.
- Fixed screen rotation bugs.
If wallpaper scrolling is enabled, it's better to select an squared area or wider, or else you will see black bars to the sides or a scaled image. This version lets you choose what happens in that case.
2013/05/06
- Works with Quickpic.
- Better lockscreen wallpaper size (checks status bar height).
- Home screen wallpaper maximum width is 960; minimum is 800.
- Checks if lockscreen wallpaper is writable. If not, S2 Gallery handles it.
2013/05/05
- Handles all lock screen wallpaper process. Works on Note 2 Gallery.
MAY NEED ROOT. This works by saving the image directly to the Gallery data folder.
- Lock screen crop box is fixed to match the screen.
- No lateral black bars in home screen.
- Signed. You must uninstall the previous version before trying to install this one.
- Kick ass icon.
2013/04/23
- Processes and sets Home wallpaper to prevent zooming.
- Checks whether the Gallery activity exists.
Tested with the Gallery Note 2 and seems to be doing OK. However, when setting lock screen, the cropping rectangle has locked aspect, but still it lets you crop any image properly.
Please point any fault you find, I'll try to find time to work on them. And all suggestions are welcome.
Works great. Cheers.

I'm sorry, I have only tested this in Neat Rom. It must work on WanamLite as well. The app requires the stock gallery apk (SecGallery2.apk, package name com.sec.android.gallery3d). I'll make it check for some possible errors.
I m using Note2gallery and this app is not working
Handy.....thanks

There's still some problems: Sometimes the lock screen BG will be stretched, and the home screen will be zoomed if you try to select an area close to the sides of the image. But mostly works great for the lock screen.

[Q] How to turn off background rotation?

Hi everyone,
Could anyone tell me how i can disable background rotation on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5? I want my background to be fixed even the rotation is on.
Cheers.
Search in the play store for screen rotation apps. Some let you only rotate a certain app and rotate every other apps. I use an app called rotate to force a certain app to be rotated in a direction without messing up the other apps. But its only a trial and you would have to buy it after a week.
I think op wants his wallpaper to not rotate
I need (want) that too. Been searching for an app or live wallpaper but didn't find anything.....
Exactly what i want. If i use different wallpaper other than stock then it keeps rotate. I would like to turn that off if that's possible. Went through the whole settings but didn't find anything. Btw the apps rotation is good.
Cheers.
