Windshield Mount - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi, just wanted to give a quick impression of 2 windshield mounts I ordered.
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Univers..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1305654075&sr=1-3
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-IPM515-...Holder-Compatible/dp/B003Z4L68S/ref=pd_cp_e_2
Overall they both work OK. I much prefer the "Universal Mount" just because of how the Slim Grip opens/closes. The Universal is a squeeze style close with a button release. The Slim Grip you have to push the lower part down to open it, and the same to get your phone out. Kind of a pain.
Plus, even though the Slim Grip seems to be OK in Landscape...it still scares me not having a physical piece there to hold it up in case the spring force isnt enough.
I am using the Slim Grip as a vent mount (using the vent mount supplied with the Universal) and the Universal as a Windshield mount. So far the suction cup on the Universal seems very strong and I have not worried about it coming down.
One thing I noticed on the Universal that is a bit annoying, when the unit is fully opened and you are driving it rattles. This is remedied by simply closing it 1 or 2 clicks (which still allows you to put your phone into it without opening it back up).

I have the same Universal mount but with the frictionless pad. How do you like the Vent mount though in the terms of removing it? I got scared away from it because the reviews had that the two clips to hold it in place easily break.

Ordered the Universal yesterday, should have it tomorrow. I'm curious to see how well it works with the extended battery, but I like the idea of mounting it to the vent. Can't wait to get it regardless though, since the other one I have will only work with the stock battery.. Grrr..

I had a mount similar to the universal mount here (different brand) that I grew to loathe quite a bit because it rattled with no device in it. I didn't put my phone in it every time I got in the car and this bothered me greatly. I'm glad I avoided that universal mount because I would not tolerate that at this point.
The second mount (that you have to push down on the lower part to insert device) is the one I use now. It doesn't bother me how it functions and it is quiet. It grips well enough that you shouldn't worry about it slipping, and the extended clips make it work great for this phone without needing a huge stretch on the cradle to insert the phone.

I got the universal mount yesterday. Love it so far. Haven't noticed any rattling, but I may not either unless I switch vehicles. Keeps the phone secure though, and it works nicely with the extended battery in place (no case yet).
I do kinda like the looks of that other one too. Maybe I might order it for the wife and try it out. Not sure how often she'd use something like that though...

Hi, I do not have much experience with this yet as this mount is in my wife's car.
The vent mount clips do seem a bit flimsy...especially since I am using it on the "slim" mount. With the universal I wouldnt worry too much because of the button release, squeeze in. You arent putting much if any pressure on the clips.
But with the slim mount...I have a feeling these could break on me down the road.

Those clips are definitely flimsy. Solved the problem though: rather than use the clips, I pulled that other piece off and cable tied it to my vent. Solid, and not moving.
Obviously, it does no good if you switch vehicles, but for that I will use windshield mount then.

Just wanted to update on my "hack" for the vent mount. Been very solid so far. I have some concern over the longevity of the cable ties, but honestly, it's a very minor concern. Very little movement of the phone, great location being on the air vent (especially in the summertime, keeps it cool).
I can post pics if anyone wants to see, but I'm glad I went that route. Leaves the windshield mount available for when I'm in a company vehicle or my wifes car.

Do any of these after-market mounts activate the car panel app? I've seen how you can find and run it through the HTC universal search but is there any other way to activate it (like with a magnet on the OG Droid)?

Not with a magnet. My gut is that a resistor or something is what's required. Check this thread:

Mountek MT5000

If you haven't tried or seen the Mountek MT5000, you should take a look.
I ordered mine from Amazon for $20 shipped and have ben using it for a few days. I have to say this is one amazing mount. Not only does it fit in the CD slot, but any slot you have anywhere. Using mine at my desk at work and in the car.
Great idea.
Check out a small write up on GoodandEvo
http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/01/mountek-mt5000-mounts-htc-evo-in-cars-cd-player-slot.html
I have one in the car and love it.
thinking about getting another for work.
I got mine about 2 weeks ago, and I love it. I have the Ballistic HC case, and it still fits in the mount. I never thought about using it at work for other slots.
that thing looks awesome, i think i'll be investing in one of these soon
Guys, get this mount. This is the mount to end all mounts. It is so awesome. It installs in like 10 seconds flat. You put your phone on there and just squeeze to clamp it down. It rotates to portrait or landscape, and you can turn the phone to face you if you need to.
I'd been using it for a while with the CD slot, and then today I discovered that it was even more awesome installed on the vent because now I don't even have to look down. The guy who invented this thing is a genius. The only thing better than this mount, in my opinion, is the Palm Touchstone, but that doesn't exist for Evos. :-/
I also think that this mount is great. Such a clever design and the customer service at mountek is really good too.
FYI - You can snip out a gap on the removable bottom mount to make room for a charging cable
very cool idea, and I would free up the vent I am currently not able to blow on my face for this summer lol.

Actually, you can remove the bottom altogether if you want to ... it's removable and pops right off. I've found it unnecessary as the mount grips my Evo just fine in portrait or landscape without it.
My take on the mount
With all the glowing reviews here I'm somewhat hesitant to chime in but:
- if you are thinking this mount is in any way specific to the EVO- it's not; it's a generic sort of think which uses two pads and pressure to hold the sides of your phone.
- while the bottom bit of the holder can be removed, it's essential to do so because your charger will not fit into the phone with it there. It's WAY too much of a pain to remove the phone from it's case just to use this mount and I can't see using the phone without an extended battery.
- if you have an extended battery or a case the mount will basically not work- you may get it "in there" but the phone will be on the edge of the rubber pads and pop out on the first bump or when you try and use the phone (pressing on screen or trying to wake it up with the power button
- they do offer a money back warranty but as with most things these days it would cost me so much in shipping to send it back it's not worth the hassle but I'm sorry I got the thing- useless for my purposes and didn't work for my wife's EPIC either and not just because there's aren't provisions for the slide- it wouldn't hold her phone securely at all and she's caseless with stock battery.
TLDR: maybe a good idea but much flawed in execution. I'd return it if it was cost effective.
I see reviews that state that it works with the extended battery and case, which is perfect for me!
Does anyone know if you can swivel it left and right to change viewer angles?

Yes it swivels a bit -- not much but enough to give you a good viewing angle from the driver's seat. You can also rotate it to portrait or landscape depending on your preference.
I have one with an extended battery and it fits fine. Bumps don't knock it loose. I only have to place it a little farther then the middle so it doesn't press the volume buttons.

I don't know what the other guy is talking about, I have the extended battery and case and mine ddoesn't pop out. I'm actually very pleased with it. I did remove the bottom bracket.
I've been waiting for this product to be re-stocked. Apparently, they've been sold out for a while now. Pre-ordered it in May and it finally arrived this weekend. So far so good! Fits my Droid Incredible but the charge port is blocked unless I remove the support bar. The side arms seem to hold snugly without it, but I'll have to shoot them an email and ask about that. Also looks like they've made some mods. The CD blade looks slightly different than the product photo and the tightening wheel is now smaller. I feel pretty good about this purchase. Build quality is higher than I expected. Seems durable too. We'll see how it continues to perform with time...
*****
Wow, I sent them an email and already got a response: "The device rest [support bar] is optional/detachable, and in most cases, the mount can hold your phone without it." So I guess I'm good.
Looks nice, but does it do any damage to the inside of the player? anyone have problems with the player trying to take it as a cd? this might be a great solution for my element.

The Mountek MT5000 does not damage the CD player at all.
The blades never touch any part of the disc loading mechanism. It only fits into the slot opening where you then turn the knob just enough to spread the blades to gently hold the MT5000 into place.
If you still have CDs in the player, they can still be used too because the MT5000 doesn't engage any of the player's CD eject or load functions.
would this mount work for the evo 3d?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
It should work for the Evo 3d with no problems.
How many turns is everyone giving the tightening rod? The guy in the video gave it like two turns.. I'm cranking mine a few times.. And it can keep turning, but I thought it might be enough
I bought one a while ago, feels a bit cheap in terms of build quality but it does work as advertised.
I use my charger cable to loop and lock the phone in

OEM car mount review

Hey guys,

did u make this review? i don't see the phone being removed from the dock. that's my only issue with the dock. it's not that easy to take the phone off.

No,
the way the phone goes in you dont have any hard contact with the bezzel and also its ruberized on the corners. The back part of hard plastic but there is no movement of the phone so scratches will be minimal..Be sure of course to check for hard particles before putting your phone

Yes , this is my review ..In the first part of the review when I put it in the table you can see me putting it in and out IIRC.
Indeed taking it out is not the easiest task as it is plugged into the charging port, however the benefit of it is the fact that you are minimizing cables and wires . When you pull out the part of the charger the removal is easy and the suction cup is strong enough to keep it in place
I rather it be locked in securely tho..However, as I explain on the video, there are better options out there with more mobility and same performance
i'm pretty sure removing the phone from the cradle got cut off. i saw you put the phone into the cradle 2 or 3 times but not removing it. just wanted to know if you have to push back on the tab really hard to kinda pop the phone out from the top part. everytime i try removing it, it seems like i'm not doing it correctly and will break it.

oh im sorry well to be honest pushing was not that hard..yes there is resistance but not necesarely hard just be sure you are moving the bottom away first so the charging port doesnt go on an angle..the click you hear is more of the plastic getting in place than the charger getting in. It was slightly harder than removing a regular car charger. Just be careful when pushing the tab back and try to do it straight . The removing process should be exactly the opposite of the inserting one
$50 for a mount is too much. Although I love the phone and Google Navigation a lot, but it does get quiet hot while on GPS and charging at the same time. I will stick with my Garmin GPS.
Nice!
Great review! Thanks!! Saved me $50. This mount would have been a huge dissapointment for me and I was super close to getting it today. It's not like Samsung to skimp out on looks and functionality!?!

glad I was able to help! there are better ones out there..I will be trying to review some as well ..just waiting to purchase some hehe
I just dont understand why did samsung used so much plastic in the wrong parts!
It serves me perfectly.
The OEM Car Mount serves me really well.
I modified it with a vent mount because I did not want to install it to the glass.
After I put it to the vent, it works really well. It stays firmly even if I operate while I am driving. I do not have any problem to put or take out the phone from the mount even thou my phone has Ghost Armour Black Carbon.
Of course I have to use a force a bit to the tap, but no trouble to me.
After I got the mount, I have not used Garmin 1450LMT at all, so finally I sold it. The Car mount is the most useful accessory that I've purchased for the phone. I paid around $33 for the OEM mount & $2.50 for the vent mount from Amazon.com.
PS. Please excuse the dust in the vent. I was surprised when I saw the pictures. I think I need to detail the car very soon.
very well done sir! I like your custom mount option! The product is rock solid..however in my case I just needed more flexibility
I'm really digging the OEM navigation mount. Works wonderfully if attached to the windshield. But completely useless as a dash mount, don't know why they even give you the dash "puck" as there is not way in hell you can adjust it as a dash mount (*at least in a 4Runner).
But the BEST thing is the line-out capability in car mode!!! IT'S AWESOME!!!
I tried most phone mounts for the car and did not like them. I don't like the window mount as it obstructs your vision and leaves circles inside the front windshield. It is also too far away to touch the screen/phone as you drive. I didn't like the vent mount because during the hot Summer days, you have one less AC vent blowing at you. I recently bought the CD player slot mount and I LOVE IT! It places your phone a lot lower than the vent mounts and it fits a wide variety of phones. It is also more discrete to motorists around you and its way closer/easier to touch the screen. You just place your phone on it and squeeze the sides until it locks. Then you can tilt it to landscape, tilt it back and forward, and tilt it towards the left or right. When you are done, you just press the top rear and it opens up. It will fit our phone and even the Galaxy Note. Oh yeah I had to buy this as my 4.5" screen Samsung T989 did not fit my old vent mount that fit my G2X. I bought mine from a vendor through Amazon. Check out the 4.5 star rating from 134 customers. Its $19.95 with Free shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-MT500...W3D4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325492429&sr=8-1
Is there a mount that I can place down by where the gear is? I don't want windshield or dash because they obstruct my view. I don't want vent mount because I need my vents for air conditioning and it's still a bit high. I can't do CD mount like the guy above posted because my cd slot is behind my built-in GPS which flips out to put CDs in.
Can anybody recommend a good mount or would any dash mount work for that situation. I'm thinking maybe putting it in the cup holder or nearby.
Here's my custom effort:

Magic Grip DASH/WINDOW MOUNT

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008KP4ZFI
Anyone seen this?
I ordered one, because i was looking for quick insertion/quick removal (and i needed something that would accept the thickness of the 4200MAh hyperion battery w/case). I have to admit, it surprised me. Not only does it hold the s3 complete with the largest battery to date, but it holds it even over HARD bumps. (disclamer: my car is on racing coilovers, and there more than a few places of horrendous bumpiness on the way to work).
To make it work like an iBOLT (for my purposes) i have a usb cable ziptied to it (so i still have to plug it in like an iBOLT, and the wires are routed inside my dash for a relatively clean install), and since i bluetooth to my car, instead of audio in, I made a profile on tasker, that when it sees my alpine EX-10, it switches to carmode (as in what the iBOLT and other OEM chargers do), turns the volume up , turns on GPS, etc... and switches back when I leave. only thing is, i have to turn on bluetooth for it to work (but i do that anyway).
and the metal plates you need to make it mount? they fit perfectly inside the case, between the case and the phone.
This looks very interesting, and I've been looking for a car mount recently. Any way you could post up some close up pictures of the part that holds the phone? It looks like a suction cup device, which makes me pretty skeptical of its effectiveness when used with a case that doesn't have a smooth surface for it to attach to.

I don't how many people who still use their cd player, but if you don't, this mount is amazingly effective:

it is not a suction cup. it is a rubber foot, with neodymium magnets embedded. (hence the metal plates it provides.) the magnets hold the plate, and rubber foot keeps it from sliding, or scratching your phone. i will get a pic or 2 at lunch.

I looked into that, but my CD player drops these 2 locks over the slot (mitsubishi factory 6 disk changer) and would not allow the insertion of the mount.

Hi
I didn't find any phone car holder for LG g pro
Personally i love my iOttie mount. It connects quickly and holds tight and then easy to get out. Holds it securely without feeling like I'm going to break something (mount or phone) because its spring loaded with a button that "grabs" the device and holds it. The XL size holds my LG and my gal's 4.5" Motorola, its a bit to big for your iPhone friends.
I bought mine on ebay for like 19.99

This is my DIY method of mounting the OGP on my air vent using the head of a windscreen mount. The OGP with the case is pretty heavy and the suction cup can't keep it firmly especially in an off road situation so I decided to make this mount out of a piece of sheet metal. All I can say it is sturdy as hell. So if you like tinkering at home it can be a nice weekend project...

Do you actually have this mount, or are you just suggesting it? If you do have it, any issues with the buttons or shaking or anything, and will it hold the OGP in a hybrid case? Also, it's designed to have the home button on the left. For those apps that only want to display in one particular direction when in landscape, that would make me have to flip the holder over, with the single tab on the bottom and the two holder up top. Any issues with the phone not staying in the mount if flipped over in this way?
Pallcsa...I realize you made the bracketry, but what mount is it that you are using to hold onto your phone's case? Also, what app is that, that gives your lean angles?

It covers the buttons but doesn't "press" them. Mine hangs from the windshield. It's spring loaded but has soft pads and doesn't squeeze too hard but it sits in there secure, I use it in portrait mode exclusively with no problem.

Well, as I said it was the head of a universal windscreen phone mount that I had laying around since it was too weak to hold that weight firmly. As far as the inclinometer app goes, you can download it from play store. Here is the link. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ojw.inclinlite&hl=hu
My OGP is in an Evtech Hybrid Case ( http://goo.gl/qZg5oX ) which is tough and hardy. I use a Dash Crab Duet car mount ( http://goo.gl/VKpBM8 ) with it. I offset the phone in the spring loaded jaw so no buttons are pushed. The mount attaches well to the dash or windshield and holds the phone securely in any position I gimble it to.

Wow! The Dash Crab Duet looks incredible, I will get it.
Thanks for the recommendation.
OP here. I ended up ordering the iOttie XL mount from Meritline:
http://www.meritline.com/iottie-one...for-galaxy-note-ii-galaxy-siv---p-102928.aspx
usually $19.99, but with coupon code MLCQ20XN it came out to $13.50 SHIPPED. Someone reviewed it for the OGP and said that the mount's holders touch the volume buttons but do not operate them, and that the phone in a case sits nice and tight. I should have it within the week and will report back any pluses and minuses of use.
I don't know if the coupon code is still good, but I guess you could try it if interested.
If this does not work out, I'll either mod it to make it work, or I might just try the Dash Crab Duet mentioned above.

Car mount... vent vs dash?

I'm looking to get a car mount for my Nexus 5, but I'm not sure which style to go with. My dad has the Aduro u-grip and likes it, but he says it has fallen off his dash a couple times. He doesn't use the 3M tape though, so I imagine that could stick it more permanently.
http://www.amazon.com/Aduro-Univers...GLF8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405607983&sr=8-2
I've also seen options that fit on your vent.
http://www.amazon.com/Kenu-Airframe...1B4W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405608084&sr=8-1
The vents in my car are fairly close together, so I'm a little concerned about that fitting.
I haven't really seen many of the traditional windshield mount options, but I never had much success with those sticking well anyway.
Any thoughts on the two I posted plus other possibilities?

Hello,
The one that your dad has is awful, it won't stick even with the 3M tape/disk. As for the second one, I used with a smaller phone and it worked fine, but I think it might be a tight fit for the N5, especially if you use a case.
I currently have these two:

The first one is in my car, the other one in my wife's. I particularly like mine, as it is easier to get the phone in and out. Also, you won't need the 3M tape. iOttie uses an special type of suction cup that attaches to virtually anything. I will also like to mention that both mounts have fallen a couple of times, during the winter time, but I am talking about really cold temperatures. You can put them in the windshield as well as in the dashboard, but I don't like to put them in the windshield, because I mostly listen to music through my phone and it is kind of far away to use for me.
Regarding the vent mounts, I have used them in the past with other phones, and there is just one major benefit in my opinion. When you are using the navigation app, the phone tends to get really hot and if you are listening to music is even worse. With your phone in the vent, that won't be an issue, even during the winter. The only con I can think of is that some of those vent mounts won't have a strong hold in your phone, so if you hit a big bump in the road the phone might come out.
I hope this helps.

Yeah, that's why I was looking at vent mounts. My old HTC Incredible would overheat if I didn't position my one vent in such a way as to blow cold air on it. Unfortunately in my new car the vents can't angle to blow cold air on where the phone would be in a window or dash mount.
I have a Kenu Airframe and am a huge fan. I've had it for a little over a year. Excellent product.

+1 on the Kenu, but I used it with the Nexus5 Qi charger. See this thread:

It's very convenient to have the N5 magnetically mounted. I tried without the magnetic charger, it's a bit hard to insert/remove the phone from the Kenu mount.
I use a vent clip one I picked up from Wally-World. It worked fine for the last three phones I've had. $15.
