EVO For An Epic???? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thinking about trading my EVO 4G for an Epic 4G......Why should I? Why shouldn't I? The reason I'm contemplating is because the EVO is about to become old news once the EVO 3D comes out....while the Galaxy S II has a later release date on Sprint..........plus I can run cm7 and basically have a nexus s with a keyboard minus the nfc chip.......what do you guys and gals think???

I would advise against it. My fiancee has an Epic Fail...and she hates it. It locks up all the time and the SMS goes out of order. The battery is horrid. The worst ones are those that came stock with 2.1 and later upgraded to 2.2. They lock up all the time.

Thx.....anyone else????

The epic to me is old news already I have only seen one in my life time but with the addition of added bulk and a far less dev support I say stick with the evo
sent from my Motorola XOOM

The epic has been old news for a while now sadly. I used it for a week and hated it. I was so happy when I went to the Evo. I'm excited to see how the 3D compares to the original, although I am sure that the 3D will blow it away. You should either wait for the 3D or the GSII

bought the Epic on opening day and quickly regreted it. enough said, if you want new hardware go with the 3D. I will be staying HTC for a while to come..

epic
better screen colors
far better wifi speed..this is significant if you have a connection over 15Mb
better battery life using bonsai
keyboard if you need that (the slider is kinda soft though)
feels like a toy, due to all the plastic
buttons get a tad soft
evo wins
larger screen
better build quality
better dev support--big plus
battery life sucks
data connections seem about the same to me
I have them both sitting here, two separate account

My first recommendation would be to decide if you want a physical keyboard or not.
They add a lot of bulk and take space that can house other/faster components. I would never go back to a physical keyboard. I would rather a smaller/lighter phone with more screen real estate and a slimmer profile.
...however some ppl (my wife for example) miss the physical keyboard greatly which would change things...
Sent from my Mynioned EVO using XDA App

I had a Samsung vibrant, basically an epic without a keyboard. I hated it. Too much lag, bad GPS...good screen and huge internal storage were the only good things. Switched to sprint and the evo and haven't looked back
We're comin from a pure power source.

You'd hate it as much as I did.
The Epic feels very fat compared to the Evo. The slider is constantly trying to open when you don't want it to. Touchwiz is not as nice as Sense (if you're keeping them somewhat stock). The colors on the Epic, especially reds and oranges, seem way overboosted and unnatural on the Epic, and when watching movies on it, I could see a "screen door" type of thing on it.
I only had an Epic because I sent my Evo in for repairs (and opted out of Sprint's insurance). I had it for a week, and was REALLY happy to return it.

Evo to Epic
I wouldn't do it, I had an Epic and 1) nowhere as big as a developer/user base than for the Evo. 2) The LCD is nice but IMO the battery on Epic is less than that of the Evo. 3) the camera on my Epic just straight up died for a no reason after the 2.2 after was applied and would cease to ever work again. (google it, "camera failed to start samsung epic).
Keep the Evo!

I agree with the other posts. The epic adds too much bulk just for a keyboard which has low quality buttons and could better utilize this space for more and better hardware. Plus the Dev support is substantially less. Stick with the evo, it is much better

lol good luck getting CM7 or any custom rom to run on the Epic.

Lol....I know that's the only thing that is stopping me from doing the trade.....

Yeah and my wife also has the Epic. I get far better battery life than she does. We both leave work at the same time, and at the end of the day her phone is usually dead on the way home and I still have 30-40% left.

EVO For An Epic
I have both phones, and I think I am about to reiterate what a few people have said before. The epic does have a few things going for it, but I believe the user experience and SUPPORT are just way better for the evo. I took my evo back from my ex a week ago and it has been in my pocket way more than my epic. For a phone sprint likes to push as one of their top phones, the epic just doesn't have the support it needs from samsung. Long story short, stick with HTC.

The epic is Not a step forward. They are from the same generation of smartphones.
If you really want a keyboard, then you will want a Evo Shift.
Stick with the Evo... at least til you can get a 3d or whatever else is coming down the pipes. with the new GB update and all the new 3.0 roms out there, the Evo will have a nice new jolt of life.

i have a Evo 4g and my brother has a epic 4g both are great, but get the evo, it has better development. it already has 2.2 and theres some early builds of 2.3 u can run on it. plus theres many more accessorys and cases for it. there are many more custom roms and kernels for it. my brothers epic battery life is a bit better and the screen and camera are nice. if u want a keyboard get the epic. But Evo is where its at!!!!!!!!!! epic feels like plastic, while the evo feels like it was built right!
Soooooooo get an Evo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please just google it, there are a thousand comparison threads out there. The best way to decide is go to a store and play with both for yourself. Also, because you are in the Evo forums, most of us are going to say the Evo. Same thing in a samsung epic forum, ask the same question there, and most of them will say the epic.
Love my evo, seen epic not bad.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ya i've googled but i wanted suggestions for xda because no matter what phone i get i want to root it and it sounds like the evo has better development but i love the slide out keyboard
also is their a way on the evo to tether without a tethering plan, just with a data plan
Try each of them within the 30 days. I promise you that you'll come back to the Evo. Nuff said.

Having owned both, I can tell you there's a reason I'm currently using an Evo. Several, actually. Too many bugs in the Epic for me. Evo has had far less. Samsung isn't exactly known for timely software updates. I was hoping the Galaxy phones would be the exception. I was wrong. Evo's froyo update was out earlier than expected. While the Epic has some distinct advantages (GPU, killer screen), I DEFINITELY prefer the overall shape/size of the Evo, plus the fact that it just works, and there's a ton of development for it.
wow, evo vs epic. there is no comparison there hands down EPIC. wtf are you guys smoking? Evos can't even play Dungeon Defenders. Okay, if you consider 10 FPS playing then yeah it plays. Seriously. Not to mention the crappy washed out screen on the evo.
Lol, you think the epic is better than the evo? Rofl cakes! Epic... Fail!

The Epic has much better hardware and if you're into modifying (you are on XDA after all) you can get rid of most of the bugs.
That said, CM makes the EVO more valuable to me. If you don't care about that, don't care about HTC Sense, and are into modifying, the Epic is the better phone.

The plastic though is an illusion, in terms of hardware reliability, build quality, and durability the Epic is better...just cause its plastic doesn't mean its built wrong...if anything being plastic makes it lighter thus would receive less damage if it were to fall and etc..not to mention the Gorilla Glass...
As for development..once the Epic gets the unified kernels from the i9000/Nexus S it will open a doorway to a lot more development..even surpassing the Evo...oh and as for CM its in prebeta 8..so it will be out soon too for the Epic..
But I agree with the try for 30 days comment.
well good there are some honest people here lol. As for SGS developement. It's awesome. I've used Cm in my G1 days but Team Wiskey is just as good if not better than Cm. I swear these guys don't sleep.
But here's an honest answer. If you don't intend to play newer games or multimedia is not your primary concern, stick with the Evo, its fine and should be fine for a while.

Lol it is. Better screen. Better cpu/gpu combo. I do love that evo tho. Its sexy. But spec wise the epic is better. But evo has better software

I would have to agree with blazian. The Hummingbird processor in the Epic is definitely more powerful and that same processor in other phones is ALREADY get rock solid overclocks at 1.4ghz to boot. The amoled screen is great and through software, the blue hue can be taken care of. A HUGE thing for me that makes me what something like the epic is the fact that the processor has HARDWARE support for a TON of video formats like h264 which includes avi's mkv's and the such and thats a huge plus for me. So on the pure hardware spec side id give it to the Epic. Now with Evo(which i own) does enjoy the larger screen (albiet only a tft lcd), and kickstand which i find myself using more and more often everyday, and the 8mp camera is kind of a pointless stat to add because as far as the picture quality its as good as any other 5mp shooter out there. Both have the front facing camera's ( again the evo's extra mp's dont really actually do much here) and of course the Evo is thinner with no keyboard. With newer roms and software development to be expected, i would say that for overall speed and power the epic is gonna be a good choice in the long haul over the evo's hardware. The Evo however has incredible software development for it right now as well as a VAST array of available accessories both first and aftermarket that the epic may more than likely never see. To me those are the heaviest things to consider (on top of that comes the formfactor debate which only you can decide which you like better) so good luck deciding! when it comes right down to it, your gonna be very happy with either Merry Christmas!
Epic 4g is better
The Epic is better IMO. I had the Evo since day one and I must say its a good phone but the sound quality is terrible. I have beats by Dre headphones and listened to music on the Evo. It sucked big time! I used them with my Epic 4g and my Galaxy Tab. The sound quality is AWESOME! Both Epic and Galaxy Tab have great sound quality and Dolby 5.1 Surround for movies is CRUCIAL!. The Evo have an extensive development community but the ROMs are getting boring. Samsung has built a nice piece of hardware but no software to compliment it. Thanks to XDA that issue is resolved. And when the true Froyo update is released this weekend, let the competition begin! Xda will have some KICK ASS custom ROMs for the Epic. Check out PCWorld Epic 4g is the Top Andriod phone.

Tablet or upgrade from epic?

So as it stands right now, Sprint is getting the Nexus S 4G, HTC Evo 3D, and the Kyocera Echo. I'll be due for an upgrade in September. My birthday is in July, so I'll have enough money for a new device(turning 17). Now my question, when I get the money, should I keep it, and upgrade to a new phone in september, or spend it on a tablet? If I get a new phone, I'll start rooting my epic and messing around with it. If I get a tablet, which would probably be a Nook Color, I'll be rooting it and putting cm7 or honeycomb on it. In your opinions, what should I do?

i would keep my money and just root my epic now...no need to buy something i can do right now...the same things the others can do the epic can too.. just with a smaller size that can fit in your pocket.. save your money and just root your epic...

Thanks for the input, but I'm not rooting my current phone simply because too many people have problems after messing around, and I need a fully functional device. And on stock, I have no doubt it will do what I need it too, if rooted, I know I will doubt whether my phone is fully working right. I will never root a phone that I need to depend on. More opinions, please!

Thanks, but any reason why? Right now, I'm leaning towards a Nook Color simply because i'd miss my epic's keyboard too much, and I will not sidegrade to a evo shift. Although, if sprint happens to get an Epic II with a keyboard, i'd probably get that over a nook color

I'd like to have one! Lol but I'm 16, I don't get that kind of money, the most I've ever had at one time was just over $340, and that was for my epic.now the $250 + tax is much easier. So unless you wanna send me a 10.1 or an 8.9 for that matter, I'm gonna get a nook.

Pros:
1.2 GHz Dual-Core, so it can run some new awesome games coming out
Larger (if that's a preference of yours, 4.3 inches)
Slick new Sense 3.0 (If you haven't seen a video of this; you'd love it!)
1080p Video 2D, 720p 3D!
Dual Cameras + Dual LED Flashes for great 3D pictures in 720p, 1080p 2D
Better Display (540x960)
HDMI Output (Great for videos, games, etc.)
It's not Samsung
Gingerbread 2.3.3
It'll be Sprint's new flagship device so expect frequent updates and a large community
Bigger Battery (1730 mAh)
Glasses-Free 3D
1.3 MP Front-Facing Camera!
4G
4 GB internal memory
Cons
No Slide
8 GB SD card but upgradable to 16 and 32 GB

Yeah...If I were you I'd definitely get the EVO 3D. Tablets are nice and all, but I'd wait a bit. They're still a bit new, and Honeycomb isn't perfect yet. I say wait until your next update when you're going to be going off to college and you'll have a great tablet to start your year.
Hope this helps

Lol thanks for posting the specs and video, I mean it, but I've already seen all that. I do like some elements of sense 3.0, 3d seems like a gimmick to me, although the camera(s) are cool. Dual cores are nice, but not really supported by android(yet) I'm not trying to take anything away from the evo 3d, its a nice phone, but honestly, I feel that, for now, my epic is fast enough for everything I do with it.

K, it also depends on other things that can't be determined yet. Like, if my phone breaks somehow. But, if my phone runs the same way it does now, then, then I think imma buy and start hackerifying a helpless nook color. Soooo....what is your question? If you're not interested in the 3d...are you looking at either the echo or the nexus then? Scratch the echo and do the nexus if you're looking at getting a phone. Otherwise go tablet. Spec wise the 3d is obviously the better phone but if nothing about that impresses you then I'm not sure what you're wanting.

Throughout the process of this thread, and its copy in the nook section, i have leaned a little towards a tablet since i could have a phone and tablet, the tablet which i would start hacking since ive never done that to my epic. Whereas, if i got an upgrade to a newer phone, i would have one current phone and the epic which i would then start hacking, but wouldnt use because of battery. The epic/tablet combo seems better to me than new phone/old phone combo.

Wait, I'm confused... you want to hack the epic, but not use it? And yes, personally I would do a tablet and a phone, and intend to do so. Currently I rock the Epic as well as my iTouch 3G. Unfortunately, they serve many of the same functionalities, and I now find my once fantastic iTouch underused less than a year after buying it.
On the other hand, I would much love a tablet I could tether to my Epic, as the larger interface offers a much more satisfying experience when handling emails and documents, among many other tasks. That said, my iTouch is still my favorite music player, despite it's days as a PDA being numbered, and I intend to continue to use my Epic for God-knows-what after I finally upgrade from it. I hate abandoning perfectly functional relatively-up-to-date devices.
I am well aware that you have no desire to root your Epic while it's your primary device, I would suggest trying it and finding an older, stable version of one of the many custom roms out there. The battery life is drastically improved, I can make it last for up to 2 days with light use these days thanks to SyndicateFrozen. That said, my vote is towards the Phone/Tablet combo rather than a newer though barely different phone.

I agree. The phone/tablet combo is definitely the better option. I plan on going that route. I've already got the epic and an ipad2 but I'd like to get a honeycomb tablet as well. Preferably an HTC model with the new Sense launcher. Although the Blackberry Playbook is looking nice too.

What I'm saying is that if I got a new phone instead of a tablet,I would just start messing with the epic, but because it wouldn't have battery life to be a secondary device like a tablet would, it would eventually end up in its box.

What phone is worth trading your Epic for?

I was just wondering what phones are better than the Epic because I honestly can't find one better lol.
I see qbking77 traded his Epic but I can't find proof that Nexus S 4G is remotely close to being better than the Epic.
We may have the best smartphone on the market or am I just crazy!

The plus for the nexus s, atleast from what I can tell looking from the outside looking in, is it has a more active dev community. And don't get me wrong I am in no way shape or form putting down our magnificent epic devs

Id get the nexus if I had the chance yes I love my epic still think its the best on the market right now but the nexus would be a change up and the dev community is blowing up its making it hard not to switch seeing how my epic can't even get a legit gingerbread release

I was just wondering what phones are better than the Epic because I honestly can't find one better lol.
I see qbking77 traded his Epic but I can't find proof that Nexus S 4G is remotely close to being better than the Epic.
We may have the best smartphone on the market or am I just crazy!

For Sprint: Nexus S for Rom enthusiasts, Photon for international travelers
For AT&T: Nexus S for Rom enthusiasts, Infuse for its SuperAmoled plus display
For Verizon: Droid charge for SuperAmoled plus display and LTE, Droid Incredible 2 for international travelers
For T-Mobile: Nexus S for Rom enthusiasts
Sprintsung Touch 4G aka Within.
Interesting question. I'm awaiting a replacement Epic, but the tech offered a Nexus instead. Maybe I made a mistake.. could have been a nice transition to the Epic touch.

Good question. For me, it will be hard to leave the physical keyboard. I love our Rom developers also, but I wish that there were more though.

Same here with the keyboard, I come from a long line of qwerty phones. It would be an adjustment, but id sure welcome a nexus s.

I would consider the EVO 3D, Photon, or the Nexus S 4G at this point. I've actually been using a loaner NS4G for a couple weeks and while I do like it, I feel it has a few shortcomings. Most of them I was aware of beforehand though.
I miss the LED light to indicate when there's a missed call/text etc. You can bypass this with getting a special kernel which can allow you to activate the backlights for the capacitive buttons, but under flourescent lighting at work its sometimes hard to spot that.
Also there's no SD card so you are stuck with the 16gb of internal memory. Not necessarily a huge issue but for some people it could be a problem.
Samsprint already issued an update to fix wonky reception with their radios. It sorta helped mine out but it still doesn't seem to match what I was getting with the Epic. That goes for 3G, 4G, and wifi. Kind of a bummer actually and this is what sours me the most on the phone.
I haven't actually seen a Photon yet but after reading one of the threads here on the Epic forum about it, I would love to try it out. It sounds like the battery life (with moderate to heavy usage) is amazing. The only way I get decent battery life with the Epic is to turn it into a dumb phone.
The EVO 3D was actually a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The 3D can cause a headache at first but once you find the sweetspot the 3D pictures and videos look amazing. It blew me away. My coworker has one after upgrading from the first EVO and he gets better battery life with it and he has the same apps and same usage patterns. So it is very tempting.
All in all there are a lot of good phones out there and its just a matter of preference and what you are looking for in a phone.
I'm going to have to recommend the EVO 3d. I was first concern about the lack of keyboard, cause I came form a long line of quarty keyboard phones. After the first week I no longer think about missing a keyboard. As far as the screen goes, the Epic is brighter. But the 3D is far more sharper and crisp. Sense 3.0 is a far better launcher then touch wiz or any other launcher currently in the market. Battery life on the 3D is 100% better then the Epic. Boy how good it is to, not have to worry about finding a AC outlet.
I would say just about any.
I am an htc fanboy so I would have to vote for evo3d which I have now. Even the original EVO 4G was a way better phone than the epic. Has it ever received the gingerbread update?

I went from 5 months on the Epic, had an Evo temporarily, and now Nexus S. The Nexus is by far my favorite, I plan on staying with a Nexus from here on. There ar things I miss about the Epic, but having a phone that you can do anything with is worth giving those things up. The Nexus flies stock, and you can run MIUI, CM7, stock, modified stock, the devs are close to porting Sense, and if you want they have tw4 available. I am using a modified stock rom right now and love it.

Really? You think the original evo was better than the epic? I had one and really didn't like it at all. Battery life was not as good and after a while it really started lagging with anything. When comparing to games on your phone the epic absolutely crushes the evo in my opinion. I'll also never be able to go back to a basic LCD again. The super amoled has me forever ...
I had the epic but bought the evo 3d. I loved the epic! But its no more longer the best on the market. It has a single core, all the phones now have a dual core. I love the qwerty keyboard on the epic! i miss it so much! If samsung made a 1.2ghz dual core, super amoled plus screen, qwerty kb, better software. Id deff buy that phone in aheartbeat. Love the epic. It deff was one of the best phones out. Best single core! Its so underrated tho! They never advertised it, it was never in the media. Thats why everyone thinks evo 4f is better than the epic bc sprint practically sponsored it! Epic never made it to the media! I'm now an owner of the evo 3d only for the devolopment, and love it!
-3D EVO-
Yes someguy, I think overall the EVO was way better than the epic. I never really play games on my phone so i can't compare that part of it but as far as running wise my EVO was always super smooth. I played with one or two epics and noticed lags here and there. I love sense so UI to me is totally more appealing than Samsung UI. Lots of people loved the epic but look at the support it got for gingerbread. Everyone has personal favorites though.

It sure is hard to even look at a non samoled phone after this thing. Can't even see my wifes htc screen. It looks like a backlit coaster.

I find my wife to be a good judge of things a non technophile. She bought a charge because all the other ones looked like ****. SAMOLED isn't some weird dreamworld. This is how displays should be built. It makes me sad that people will side against the thing they look at 99% of the time.

Same here, although wife knows how to flash cm, she always makes me do it.
But the samoled is gross. I hated samsung. Would never buy their stuff. Phone died and it was the only decent phone in town in stock for sprint. So I got it. Fell in love as soon as this thing booted to the desert rocks... omg its so sick. I love the black blacks but god colors look gorgeous. Nothing compares.
That new samoled ur chic has is REALLY GROSS. My buddy has it. God its nasty. Wonder how the new lg screen compares...

[Q] For those who jumped ship from the Epic 4G - was it worth it?

At the moment I am satisfied with my Epic 4G - Samsung finally released Gingerbread source and Cyanogen 7.1 is coming along nicely.
However, I stumbled across someone selling a like new ET4G for $325 with car charger, case, and screen protector. The ESN is legit. This sounds like a great deal, and I know that I can resell the phone at that price or higher if I decide I don't like it or if the Galaxy Nexus miraculously comes to Sprint in November.
For those of who who jumped ship from the Epic 4G to the E4GT: are you happy with your decision? Do you miss the keyboard? Any advice?
I'm very satisfied and happy to have switched. Loved my 4G (my wife now has it) but the ET FLYS! This thing is FAST. Greatly significantly faster.
The increased operational memory and the internal USB RAM is also a great boost. For regular phone use the 4G is quite good. For a power user... the ET is the answer.
I am personally glad i made the switch, I love the ET. My wife now has the OG Epic, and coming from the shift, she's in heaven.

Thanks for the responses. Do you guys miss the keyboard at all?
Loved my Epic but EG4T is another level
I cannot speak about the Epic 4G, but I recently got into an ET from an OG Evo. I am in heaven. I cannot imagine a better smartphone is on the market right now, and I have played with a few of the contenders. I have not rooted it yet and I do miss some things lost without cyanogen (which will give me a reason to root when it is available) but I don't hate touchwiz. Certainly not the way I hated Sense. In fact, it has a couple features I genuinely like. Right now, I am happy as can be with the phone. Even if the Galaxy Nexus came to Sprint I am not sure I would see it as essential to wait for it.
As always the ET could have better battery life, but it is vastly superior to my Evo 4G in that regard. I assume once cyanogen is out, battery will improve a bit more.
It's amazing. 325 before you sell off yours? I would bite. For sure.
I jumped from the Epic 4G to this. I have to say that it is a pretty significant upgrade. The whole thing seems a lot smoother for me. My girlfriend still uses the Epic 4G, and when I use it, the thing feels both small and bulky at the same time. And since your Touch will be an out-of-contract purchase, you'll be able to get a nice discount on an LTE phone when Sprint makes the switch.
Thanks guys. You've convinced me to go through with this. I have watched a few videos of folks playing around with their ETs on YouTube and was impressed by the snappiness and screen size. Not that the OG Epic is a slouch - I'm just a size queen and rather demanding when it comes to my electronics. The fact that the ET is likely to get ICS next year is icing on the cake.
Like ArchAngel suggested, my plan is to snag a sexy LTE phone (hopefully a Tegra 3 Kal-El) this time next year when I have the 2 year upgrade eligibility. Score!
As far as missing the keyboard, I don't. I thought I would, but in landscape mode, there's no issues for me here;-)

My last HTC was the Hero (I did love it, but it's slow as sh**.)
I've come from a few HTC devices (Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2) and am currently on my EVO 3D. Glad to finally try out Samsung and see what the differences are between manufacturers!
To be honest I was loving the new EVO LTE until I saw it had no removable battery. Pretty much a deal breaker for me since I like to have spares, but that's just my opinion

I'm in the same boat, im currently using an Evo 3D, and had the Evo LTE for 13 days before returning it to order the SGS3...
I have had the Evo 4G also, so ive had HTC products for a while and like them, loved the Evo LTE and even like sense... but the 2 gigs of ram and removable battery, not to mention all the other features of the SGS3 made me switch...
also since i had been using Sense for so long, getting the Evo LTE didn't feel like this crazy new phone, sure it was fast, beautiful screen, good battery... but sense is sense... now i know i could have gotten different launchers, but i really haven't messed with launchers, roms, kernels since my OG Evo... honestly just dont have the time to do all that...
so touchwiz will be new for me and make it feel like a real new phone
Yes. Coming from OG EVO
Sent from my heart
As for Android... OG Droid, Incredible, OG Evo, Evo 3D, Sprint SGS2... Sometime in the future, a PB 32GB SGS3.
Epic Touch 4g / SGS2 is a great phone. But I like swapping often. Don't miss HTC Sense. Don't mind most of touchwiz though
All I have had has been HTC phones which include Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and am currently on my EVO Shift. I always liked HTC and Sense but started to get upset with the 2.3 update bug that never got fixed and forced me to use the Go launcher which had a Sense 3.0 theme. Once I looked at the new evo lte it appeared boring and the same of what I have less a keyboard and a removable battery....couldn't get excited about it.
So I decided to jump into the S3 mix and see what happens. Concerns are the email client and exchange server integration aren't as good as HTC. I also understand the spell checking is not as good. I am a big corporate email user and need spell checking....this may be a deal breaker in me keeping the phone. mynwife also had a Samdung transform which was ****.
Anyone have experience with the sg3 email?

OG Evo here... it's still a nice phone. I got a 32gb coming sometime, and EvoLTE coming friday so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be blown away twice
I'm still trying to decide if I want to exchange my EVO for the s3. Things I'm just concerned about is GPS and radios. Review from engadget stilll said GPS locks faster than EVO but EVO was more accurate. As far as doing speed test on att version, HTC had faster downloads but they did say they will re do test when phone is broken into. I went to EVO from e4gt and I never used 3g on my epic because it was HORRIBLE. I now use my 3g on my EVO a lot more since its actually decent to surf the net or xda app. I have till the 28th to decide so hopefully I get to play one at my store soon. Non removable battery not a killer for me since I can get 7+ hrs screen on and 17+ hrs of battery. I got a zagg rechargeble battery pack that I can use if I need to.

If you mean the comparison between the GSIII variants they said the opposite I believe.

Both models lock onto GPS very quickly -- AT&T's is slightly faster at about three seconds, while Sprint's grabs your position within six to seven -- but we find Sprint's version offers up more precise coordinates.

Just sold my Evo 3D on Craigslist 3 days ago and have been using my oldschool palm pre for 3 days (talk about frustrating!) until my GS3 arrives, which is tomorrow thank the good Lord above! I suffered through a year of a terrible camera and even worse speaker phone on the 3D and am interested to see what Samsung is all about!
I manage my wifes phone and she's coming over from the original evo. Its a good phone and still in good condition but she's ready for something new. It will make a good backup phone.

yep, not at all impressed with the evo lte, will be exchanging it as soon as possible.
My last 5 phones was HTC(big grey pocket PC , mogul, tp1, tp2, evo). I got my hands on the GS2 n it was over... I'm Samsung for life now... still waiting for my 32gb s3...
OG Evo, but I decided to go big so I'm in 32GB limbo.
