Black T-mobile USA, Different hardware? - Defy General

I just recently got my second defy after my first one died from water damage. I bought it BNIB off craigslist and when I opened it with the guy, I noticed it was black. I was a little thrown off by the new color, and I made sure IMEI's matched the box and that everything was untouched, still in packaging. Everything checked out clear. The only time I had seen a black defy was in Germany. I looked at the camera lense, and I couldent 100% tell if it was the green or red. In the sun, it had almost an orange tint. Now that i am inside my home, It seems to have both red and green tints. I remember when this lense debate came up, I could clearly identify my old defy as a green lense. While im not claiming that that the black defy has different camera hardware, ive just noticed a slight difference. If anyone knows any difference besides the color, id love to know.

afaik there's no difference. the color of the lens depends on production date, not device color

The only date I found on the box was 4/26/11, which seems very recent.
The phone came with 2.2.1. The major differences are that the new front half of the phone is a smooth glossy black vs the previously matte rubberized black. Also, the back half of the chassis is black instead of white. I compared the two lenses side by side and they are clearly different. one is obviously green while my new one has a tint of red. However, any reflection of light on the lens looks green. strange.
Does anyone else on this forum have a black defy? Are the front half of black defy's usually glossy?

I've a black one bought in france in november. Glossy front, green lense. Came with 2.21 originally.

How long have you guys in europe had 2.2 for? I though 2.2 sbf's started leaking earlier this year and updates started rolling in a while after.

Mine was bought SIM free in the UK back in early March, i also cant really tell what lens is on the camera and it is glossy black

i've a black one, bought in march in hungary. it came with 2.1 (we still don't have an official 2.2 ), green lens, back half black, glossy front. btw if you can't tell whether you have red or green lens, you probably have a red one, because green is very obviously green and where exactly did you find that date, i can't find any on the box my defy came in?

Yellow stain on SLCD screen

Hi,
I bought a TELUS htc desire with the new SLCD screen thing. I have a yellow stain/tint at the bottom of the screen, but futureshop (where I bought it) says that all of them have that problem and as I already exchanged one phone once because of dead pixels, they just want to give me a new phone that isn't HTC. So, I was wondering if this is really a problem and you guys just accept it and it doesn't bother you much.
My stain is about 1 cm from the bottom of the screen, and not really apparent on darker backgrounds, but as soon as it turns out to be white or gray, it's clearly visible. On blue, the screen turns out green.
I am not sure what I am supposed to do, I like this phone a lot and the Htc sense...they said i could have a TELUS samsung fascinate with Android 2.1 (2.2 will be updated early 2011)...
Thanks
is your stain growing?
i noticed a brown/yellow stain in the left bottom corner a couple of weeks ago, starting with the size you mentioned. now the stain is atleast 4 times bigger and still growing.
wasnt there something like this on the new iphones when they came out. something about the glue used to bond the screens coming away??

White or gun metal gray?

I can't decide really, the white one looks beautiful but i had a white galaxy s ii, and it ruins the continuity of the screen, makes the bezel on the front stand out and therefore it looks bigger , the gun metal grey version is nice, but it's nothing spectacular, which version will you choose?
definitely the gray...i don't want spuds asking me if it's an ipoop
Gray for me also
hehe .... just evened out the poll ... grey for me too
EDIT: just looked at the white again and now i cant decide i guess ill make the choice on the spot ... depends on how they look up live
i still can't decide
Going white. Grey looks too.... plain.
If im going to have it for a while it must be pleasing to my eye, I care not if people think its a iphone.
I will take the White:
-To change from N1,DHD and Sensation I had (and have)
-Because it looks smaller
-Because I like futuristic star wars black and white design
well i actually am still in a state where i can't decide
however i wonder if the white one is very infective?
maybe not the right chose of words, but i mean if the white will get dirty is it easy to clean or will it lose it's whiteness over time?
and before you are going to ask me weird stuff... i hobby allot with cars and in the garden and stuff.. >.<
Every single phone that I've ever owned has been a black or grey phone. This time, i'm getting a white phone. White One X for me.

Same here. White it is!
When I first saw the images from MWC I said grey.
Once I'd seen some high res shots of the two I quickly changed my mind.
I think the white shows off the design more and I think its a design that deserves showing off.
The only downside to the white one is that I don't like the silver lens surround.
Well we still need to see the final grey version, many bloggers pointed out the one from MWC is not final and the Vodafone video shows a different finish
I dont know why i obsses about it so much if it would end up being on a case, yes polycarbonate may be highly durable but there's no lens cover for the camera so it's vulnerable to scratches

where did u see no lens cover? its definitely recessed behind the silver ring its pretty well protected
the Desire HD is similar to this and its a very good solution

Maybe it's a little recessed, im not convinced, i own an inspire 4g and my camera lens has two scratches
Now this is a real camera lens cover
I can't decide either. I love the white from the front and sides, but I prefer the back on the black/grey.
I think I'd go for white out the two but I don't think I'll get the choice anyway as I'm with T-Mobile (UK) and supposedly Vodafone are getting an exclusive on the white version, other networks getting grey
I just ordered one from 3 in sweden but didn't specify the color so it will be a surprise!

Black/Grey or White?

as the title says, which one? and why
sorry for post

Man I went back and forth on this so much, eventually called clove at the last minute and changed to white. Grey looks awesome though! I just thought the white showed off the body styling a bit more, and the glossy edges didn't stand out as much on the white. Plus I can find where I put it down much easier
White without a shadow of doubt... It just stands out and really shows of the curve and design of the phone. I've had the phone a few days now and there is still not many people out there using White phones will also makes you feel a little unique haha.
I was also undecided about which color to get but eventually I ordered the white one.
I like both but after seeing them both I went for the dark one.
It has to be white.
This phone is made to be white, it looks absolutely fantastic.
If I could only get grey, I wouldn't get one at all. The difference is night and day.

White looks great BUT get's dirty very quickly and could stain much more easily. I put my white SGS2 down on a desk at work and afterwards had a small blue stain from a drop of ink or so on it. It took a lot of cleaning alcohol and rubbing before that had faded away! With the 'texture' on the back of the One X I'm not sure that would ever come off.....so black it was for me this time ;-)
Grey here.
The White will end up a piss stained yellow eventually, regardless of claims made. The iPhones don't suffer such a fate because of the glass. Any polycarbonate discolours in time.
I also don't like the fact the white makes the phone more easily identifiable in public. People will know what it is as soon as you pull it out of your pocket. That's just asking for trouble.
It's a shame because overall I think the white looks stunning but there's just too much unknown risk for comfort.

I can wipe the ink marks easily. I saw some videos with some one writing with a ball pen on the back of white one x and wiping it so easily. So, I am with white.
view thread here:

there are already problems with the white one getting dirty and can't be cleaned
i got a dark one... seems better to me
It really depends on how you look after your phone...but here is the real truth. The polycarbonate body isn't all that tough despite what HTC have said. The white one IS stain resistant but not stain proof!!
But the real issues actually lie with the grey one.
1) It is a fingerprint magnet. Even cleaning it with a damp cloth doesn't remove the fingerprints easily. You will need mild detergent mixed with water on the cloth.
2) It goes SHINY when scuffed. In fact, a few grey models I saw were actually slightly marked out of the box from new.
3) Rubbing at it over time, such as in a pocket or from brisk cleaning, may cause the finish to change where this happened.
The big advantage of the white one, is that the texture differences are much less visible especially if rubbed or has fingermarks and is actually, and surprisingly, likely to look better if not exposed to too much staining risk.
Having said all of that, I think the grey looks more refined and sophisticated. BUT, I ended up with a white one for what I consider those practical reasons above. I absolutely hate when matte surfaces go shiny when they get rubbed/scratched etc.
The Xperia S is the absolute WORST plastic phone for a long time. A fantastic phone badly let down by the choice of casing material. The black matte surface rubs off VERY VERY easily. The white one stains almost immediately you have it and the staining doesn't come off.
This is one area I think Apple have pegged. The iPhone 4/4S phones simply do not age with careful-normal usage. A good choice of metal and scratch resistant glass surfaces. OR HTC should do what they did with phones like the Evo 3D, where you can replace the whole back with a new one when it gets scruffy.
Black? they only do White and Gray
Bought TWO WHITES ones... one for me and one for my wife... now having difficulty to differentiate between both ... but White is outstanding..
mm
100 % grey
Has to be white, looks absolutely amazing in white!
Buying mine tomorrow and leaning towards the dark one

Anyway answering to your question... I have a while one, my brother has a white one, my other brother has a grey one who's now switching to a white one after seeing my white one
White!!
Oredered a white without seeing in real life. It was really beautiful when i first saw it. Nog i've send it Doa , and in the mean time I saw a grey one live in a shop. So if I wanted too I could get a grey one now, but there is no doubt I'm getting a white one again!!
I really didn't like the grey one... It looks like just another dark rectangle smartphone... You don't see the design as with the white one.
The grey one in the shop was full with fingerprints, smudge, uneven coloring, just weird. And the white one was as new...
And that from a guy that never tought he would want a white cell phone:d.
White and hopefully an invisishield is made soon incase of spills

White or black?

Which are you getting?
White
Black here!!
White. I struggled; I wanted the red. Had black for the last 3 phones, figured it was time for a change. If not, there's always black sharpie, right?
I plan to do what I did with my S5. Got white model and got the OEM black back cover.
Black

Gold. Sprint doesn't offer white I figure if I get gold, I can get a black aftermarket back plate and go for Black with Gold trim
I bought the Korean one in black so I will buy the US one in White! I have a gold Circle case for it tho haha.
Always black
Had back to back white/silver HTC One XL/One, so I'm Back to Black!
its more of a metallic grey, and thats the one i got, its outstanding with the brush metal finish. The white seems lame imo
Black is too common and boring, so I got white.

I've had 2 black and although its very nice my third I got white and I feel it looks gorgoeus and glad I changed to white.
WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gold!
All AT&T has in stock are black G3's tomorrow so I guess that's what I'm getting. I was leaning towards the black on anyways. I do think the person who posted on the 1st page has a good idea (white phone, black back cover). I really like the stock lock screen background with the white bezel at the bottom. It looks nicer than the black model with the same wallpaper.
I've had white phones in the past but I've been getting black ones recently. The all white phones just look "girly" to me now. I rarely ever see a guy with a white phone. I like that gunmetal color also. I just don't know if the white G3 would look "too" white, if that makes sense.
BTW, lets get a poll going OP.
I'm coming from a white S3 so I went with black. I kinda like the look of a completely clean slate on the front with the screen off.
White
Some Place in rhe milkyway
I got a white one (D851) and put it in a black Spigen Slim Armor case. The black rubber from the inside of the case actually came off on the battery cover a bit. I think I would have prefered a black one but the phone is absolutely gorgeous!
(...and for sale)
White. I switch between colors. Looks pearl white to me.

Black Moto 360 appears thinner than silver version?

So I went to Best Buy this evening after work to see if they had the Moto 360 in stock. I also wanted it see how it looks in person and whether it would look good on my small wrists (surprisingly it does). After initially thinking I wanted the silver, I compared it the black version for the heck of it. I came to the conclusion that it seems the silver version appears as if it is thicker than the black. The watch face of the black version's round edges are less pronounced due to the dark color and therefore make the watch's face look thinner. Anyone else agree? I think I am going to go with the black version due to this.

Yes that's what it is. Wondering if anyone agrees with me. Obviously the "thinner" version will look better on the wrist.

Ya I think the black appears smaller. That's why I went with that
I also noticed that the black light sensor housing is far less noticeable on the black watch them the steel. It just sort of blends with the rest of the watch body on the black.
Black is slimming, put this on and *poof* no more jellyrolls!
That's why I went with black, even in pics I thought it looked smaller. Plus I like black electronics
