After having my EVO 4G, and on Sprint for the first time since getting my EVO, I am very satisfied still, 8 months later.
My EVO is rooted with "Myn's" ROM, and the phone is blazing fast, ans silky smooth, and so customizable it is awesome. I think the EVO is still one of the top Android phones available, even after 6+ months being out, only the HTC Thunderbolt being better.
And Sprint service in Chicago has been very good. Much better than T-Mobile which is very spotty and known for dropped calls, and has the worst building penetration making T-Mobile phones useless inside buildings. And ATT isn't much better. Sure Verizon might be the best, but you pay through the nose for Verizon, very expensive plans. Sprint pricing is great for what you get, and their Family plans for two phones is very affordable.
I have hope Sprint will surprise us this summer with some awesome new phones. I do believe we will see an EVO2 in June or July, and it will be the best Android phone to date. And also expect to see a nice Samsung Galaxy 2 phone sooner.
So for me personally I am staying with Sprint. Unless Summer and Fall comes and goes with no new high end Android releases, then I will jump ship. But I am sure in the next 6 months or sooner Sprint will get one or two top end Droids.
And the iPhone 4 on Verizon is just not worth it to me. Not customizable unless jailbreaked, and the pricing plans on Verizon for 2 iPhone4's on a family plan are way higher than 2 EVO's on Sprint.
Well can't disagree with you. I've only had my Evo since about this past November, running CM7 nightlies, and wouldn't go back. Verizon is expensive and I believe the Thunderbolt will be competition, and the iPhone can sit on the bench and look at the Android it wishes it could be.

Obviously you are happy with Myn's ROM have you used any others? I kinda got my self into a bind by rooting and not really being knowledgeable enough to know what I was getting into. What are the things you like about Myn's ROM and is it easy enough to update and not have to flash 17 different components to get it to work. Obviously a generalized question but I would like to be able to not have to spend hours in forums trying to figure out how to correct and get pieces to work such as 4G and font fixes and HULU fixes and app2sd, etc.

I like "Myn's" ROM the best because it still keeps the core "Sense UI" components, I like the dialer, contacts, and e-mail that Sense provides, it is just put together smart and nice design, no need to change it. But Myn's also get rid of the crappy Sprint and other bloatware that will slow down your phone. And his ROM makes the phone faster and smoother, but also good on battery too.
You just need the main zip file for Myn's, and a few add on's to make it look cooler, they all on the first page of his ROM. I have tried the other very popular ROM, Cyanogen 6.1, and it is very well done, just not my cup of tea, because of the lack of Sense. I like the business aspect feel of Sense, very clean, and great for certain functions.

You would be happy with Myns RLS5. It's a sense Rom, so its like stock, only faster, lighter, looks better and with awesome battery life. 4g works, and under his addons, he has the hacked flash for hulu. I don't know much about app2sd, never had ran out of memory yet.
I would try that with a netarchy-toastmod kernel. I was able to get 14 hours of battery life with medium usage on the stock battery. That would put you at only two flashes, one for the Rom and one for the kernel.
If you want visual customizations, you would have to find what theme/icons/etc you like and flash it.

I agree with the OP. The EVO has been hands down the best phone I've ever owned and I currently have no "phone envy" but will happily purchase the sequel to this phone when it comes out.
Android phones are at the point where there's not very much that can be added to give phone envy. They all do the same thing. I guess the only thing that would make the phone better is an AMOLED or Super LCD screen. Other than that, what else does the new generation of phones do that mine can't? 3D? Don't care. Dual-cores? AFAIK, Android can't even utilize dual-cores properly yet. More RAM? Besides AMOLED/Super LCD, this is probably the only thing I'd want more of even though I haven't yet reached a point where I've been limited by the amount of RAM the EVO has. More Storage? Eh, 3rd place on my list of wants.
I agree the Sprint / EVO 4G combination cannot be beat out there if you look the following factors:
Cost of service - Unlimited Data / Text / Any carrier Mobile to Mobile = 109.99 (incl. $10 4G fee)
VZW - Unlimited Data / 5000 Text messages / Only 5 phone #s on any carrier unlimited = 119.98 (VZW hasn't published their LTE 4G fee yet, but assume it will be $10 so that puts the total up to 129.98)
Specs for phone
Only phone to beat EVO specs isn't officially released yet.. the Thunderbolt on Verizon. Thunderbolt beats Evo on following specs:
Sense 2.0 vs EVO Sense 1.6
RAM 768 vs EVO 512
Internal Memory 8GB and 32GB SD Card included vs EVO 1GB and 8GB
Weight 5.5 oz vs EVO 6.0 oz
Difference in weight is most likely due to the SMALLER battery the Thunderbolt is coming out with.. 1400mAh vs Evo 1500mAh.
So taking into account cost of plans and even when the Thunderbolt comes out the Evo specs are still VERY comparable, I would go with Sprint and the 4G any day.
I have heard rumor that Sprint is going to do away with the Unlimited Everything plans, but my local Sprint reps deny this. Has anyone else heard anything?

make a backup and try them all, you will learn with hands on experience, it may look daunting and difficult at first but its not.
and don't listen to the mynions, they are brainwashed and will mynja your phone and brainwash you too
I actually got **kind of** bored with my Evo recently, and I went phone shopping for something newer and better. I couldn't find anything! There's literally not another phone on the market today that I would trade my Evo for.

I dunno I tried asop but it just wasn't me. I like sense, been using sense since the HTC diamond days. Just used to it I guess. To each their own though, each has pros and cons.

Funny I was talking to my brother (epic 4G user really pissed about official froyo)and my sister (HTC shift 4G user ) and evo had been my best phone so far so many roms to choose from is like having different phone and there is nothing in the market the I envy, at one point I got the iPhone 4 and returned and wanted the nice screen from the galaxy phones, but I mean Verizon coming out with HTC thunderbolt 8 months later that I got my evo which is an Evo with update look and update sense but everything else we had for the past 8 months so seriously they mess up I hope they come out with an Evo 2 and if they don't that would really be dumb part from sprint and HTC

Thanks for the info. I am looking for something that has the Sense UI and close to stock. I also want something easy to maintain and MYN's ROM may be just that. I have looked over Myn's site and downloaded the ROM. I will give it a try.

I've had great luck with the 4.3.2 CFS SBC kernels
I'm not knocking myn's rom at all (it was actually the first rom I ever flashed) but I'm currently using mikfroyo v4.4 with chogardjr's blue theme and I love it. Super fast, no bloatware, and hulu works. I'm also running a sbc kernel. (I forget which one but check my sig)
omg this is a pleasant discussion and change of pace from the General section. It seems the people who only have only one descended testicle hang out there.
I LOVE my Evo. It's giant, fast, 4g with all the bells and whistles. Our dev community is amazing. My plan is cheaper than it's ever been.
As for Roms, I'm using Konikub Elite Rom right now with MS79723's SBC kernel #15 v7. I get roughly 12 hours of battery life with moderate-heavy usage.
I have used Myn RLS5 and MikFroyo 4.5. Also have some experience with a Gingerbread Rom. I've used CM on prior phones, but I love my 4g too much to not use it.
Big fan of the Evo and I can't wait to see what our successor looks like.
I just hope Sprint really does get a high end Android successor to the EVO this Summer. Rumors of T-Mobile getting the first next gen HTC device in May, will be dual core, 4.3" screen, same form factor as the EVO.
I am afraid that Sprint won't get a true EVO 2 ? Might have to hope for a solid Samsung Galaxy S2 device, they are supposed to me much improved, with larger screen, dual core, better battery, and brand new next gen Super AMOLED screen. As long as it can be rooted quickly and good ROM's made for it, I would be all over that. But not even sure Sprint will get that either.
I agree even after having my evo fro 6 months I find more tweaks and items to make my phone better. Love it!

I'm using netarchys newest beta (4.3.2) more aggressive havs no sbc. Havs is a type of auto voltage regulation and sbc is the super battery mod which enables trickle charge beyond 90% to keep your battery charged as the stock HTC drivers stop charging at 100% and don't charge again until it drops to 90%, I don't use it cause of reports that it might damage the battery, so I stick to non sbc kernels.
My wife's og Droid took a poop so I bought an Incredible which I'll have in a day or 2. I love my X but am thinking about swapping her to have something new (to me) to play with until I upgrade this summer. Plus the X is crippled with its locked bootloader. Has anyone here had both and prefer one over the other? Decisions decisions....

I have both (work DX and personal DInc). There are a couple of ROM for the DX but alot of different options for the DInc.

Droid x is nice if you like big screens and motoblur. But if you want to root and flash new roms the incredible is the way to go. Its also more pocketable.
Droid x by a mile. The Droid x is a better built phone, it has (in my opinion) a more capable processor, has a bigger screen (that's kind of a personal preference), HDMI out, many times better battery life, offical gingerbread, and the Motoblur is a) not as bad as everyone says (sense is so much worse and uses resources) and b) can be practically disabled through a custom rom.
However, I think that you shouldn't get either device if you can avoid it, go for a newer device, both are almost a year old now.

I'm on Apex so I pretty much have zero blur. The purchase of the Inc is to immediately replace her d1 with a better (and working) phone. Whichever I do (either keep my X or give it to her and take the Inc), it will shortly be replaced by the next unlocked bootloader - 4g - front facing camera - dual core Android phone.

Well I'm going to say the Inc, custom kernels can all but eliminate the battery life problem, and I find the Droid X's screen just too big. AMOLED or SLCD will kick the crap out of the X's screen in quality any day too. ROM selection on the Inc blows the X out of the water and chokes it to death, and the Inc ROM dev community will, at this rate, go much longer than the X's. Sense is much better than any kind of Blur, and if you don't want either, the Inc has the option of good, clean CM7, as well as OMGB/OMFGB for a more stock experience than even CM7. When I bought the Inc, I bought it from a hardware and software perspective; Sense beats Blur, better screen/screen size on the Inc, didn't even think about custom ROMs at that point. I'd still heartily recommend the Droid Incredible to anyone, even at this point in its lifespan.

My first android phone was an X. I rooted it and installed custom roms and loved it. Then one day I bought an incredible on a whim, and I liked it SO much better. IMO, HTC makes way better phones than motorola. The inc has an unlocked bootloader, which is great for trying out different radios and kernels. I think the incredible's size is very nice, and the screen IS a lot prettier (SCLD or AMOLED are nicer). Lastly, there is a lot more ROM development and options. Not to mention the incredible has cyanogenmod, which is more or less considered the best AOSP ROM out there.
The only kicker is going to be the battery life. Even if you install a good ROM you probably won't be able to make it through the whole day if you use it a decent amount. The extended batteries are getting cheaper on Amazon though, since the phone is nearing it's end of life.

Lets get cracking on this one.
The processor, the TI OMAP vs the Qualcomm Snapdragon, both clocked at 1 GHz give little to no real difference in performance minus a couple 100 points in benchmarks.
The Incredible still has TV out, HDMI is nice and all, but I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker.
Gingerbread is more then accessible through Cyanogenmod, and if not the OTA should be out soon enough if you dig Sense. Plus the tons of other ROMs we have avalible at our disposal. Plus all of the custom kernals that allow overclocking, underclocking, overvolting, undervolting, SBC, HAVS/Smartass, ect.
I love the screen size on the X, but the actual screen sharpness and brightness is pretty lacking vs our AMOLED or SLCD screens side by side. This is MY take on it, and like others have posted, function over form. Also, just wait for something new to come out, or at least get an X2.

So I got the inc and I'm very disappointed. I'm trying to root using unrevoked and after the first reboot when it tries to "run root" the phone reboots itself before it's finished, causing an error. Now the phone keeps rebooting shortly after the boot animation. I can unlock the screen and before it's finished loading it'll reboot.
Some details:
Stock Android 2.2
Unrevoked 3.2
Correct hboot drivers
Usb debugging is on
Charge only - remember this
Factory Reset does not fix the reboot issue for me.
I've done this for a buddy's inc last year with not a single problem as well as an evo so I'm familiar with unrevoked and htc devices.

I actually had a D1 before I got my INC and was running CM7, as soon as I got the Inc I installed CM7 and never looked back. Where the D1 struggled and even froze on occasion, the Inc jumped hurdled and jumped again. This thing is awesome!

Put any Motorola device against an equivalent HTC device and watch the Motorola crash and burn. And now HTC will be unlocking all bootloaders. Game over. To the OP, you might have an SLCD device, which I heard causes problems with rooting. Do make a new thread, your problem will be solved in no time.

Problem not solved (unless you count returning for a refund solved). I finally got it rooted, cm7'd, and constantly rebooted. Another gb sense rom, constant rebooted. Ruu stock, constant rebooted. I wish the inc I received wasn't faulty. I was looking forward to playing with it until the latest and greatest came out this summer. It wasn't a problem on my end, it did that since I opened it from the package before attempting to even check it out in its stock form.

I kind of like Blur, but I would say go with the Incredible. Just for the awesome dev community (just take a look). If you switch, however, you can't blame me for the ORD that will most likely ensue.
I love the active ROM community on the Dinc. I had a Dinc, went to Droid X, and back to Dinc. Love the Dinc.
My girlfriend has a Blackberry Storm and looking to upgrade to a Android phone soon. I took at a look at the Droid Incredible 2 and was impressed. I know the newer phones like Thunderbolt and Charge have 4G but it also eats battery life.
I want to stay between $150 and $200. Any suggestions?
get it. i would definitely say its a worthwhile buy, especially given it has better battery life than the lte phones out. and now with it being rootable, makes it even better phone

Why an Inc1 when you can get an Inc2 for $149?
I had an Epic 4G before switching to the Inc2. Must happier with this, more solid, slicker interface, longer (about 2x) battery life. htc synch works unlike Samsung Kies! Only flaw it is incredibly difficult to root.
My girlfriend has it too, and its a sweet phone, and I don't see any difficulties with rooting as long as you get it and it still has 2.2.1 on it. Then just get AlpharevX and S-off you are, then go ahead and install whatever you like, personally I installed CM7 for her, and it runs great and gets quadrant scores about 700 higher (1500 upto 2200) and that's on stock clocks too, you can overclock easily if you wanna also lol so yeah I'd say go ahead, and enjoy leaving that blackberry behind lol

pros: awesome battery life, form factor, *good* screen, sense (i like it at least), world phone, strong signal/data speeds, performance even stock is amazing for a single core phone, flashing things from one recovery and not having to odin xxx recovery to use xyz rom etc , all 3 major aosp roms available
cons: the gb root situation, screen is a step down from samoled (although not as awful as u would be lead to believe, smaller development community (but growing)
This phone is leaps and bounds better than the Fassy, for me at least.
Pros: Nearly everything about this is better than the Fassy. Except the screen of course. (That has blacker blacks than the blacks on my black coloured phone.)
Cons: The root is non-existent for OTA Gingerbread. And the Fassy was 10x smoother. But we'll see after I get root.

I came from the D1 running liquid gingerbread and oc'ed to 1Ghz. That was my favorite phone ever then my screen went out.
Pros: I like the larger screen size, it's bigger but not too big. The battery life is amazing. I do seem to have better signal and faster UL and DL speeds.
Cons: the sound isn't as loud as my D1. Not a fan of the SRS WOWHD as the only time I listen to music is in my vehicle and I don't need the SRS WOWHD. In call volume isn't as good either. At first I thought my hearing was getting worse than what it already is bit after some research others feel the volume is lower as well. And of course the GB issue. I can't wait to get s-off but right now I'm on a tight budget as I will be moving soon and my job may or may not be paying for the move so no xtc clip for this guy for about 2-3 months.
Overall though this phone is awesome. I don't think it will ever fully replace my D1 but it already comes close so we'll see.

What is the Situation with GB Root?
Can S-Off, Root, CWM only be achieved in FroYo??
Cause I'm pretty certain the Dinc2 I receive Tuesday will more than likely have GB..

Correct, there is no way to S-off the GB OTA yet. I just picked up the DI2 from Costco yesterday and luckily it still had froyo on it. Was rooted and rom'ed in 40 minutes.
I came from a fassy and so far I really like it. I actually really like the screen not missing the fassy screen and the thing is smooth.

Honestly the Inc2 without root is still an amazing phone. Fantastic battery life, pretty fast. I feel it has more stock features than the Fascinate and I would definitely choose the Incredible2 over it. I'm sure they will find a way to root the Inc 2 GB soon.
Another fortunate recipient of a DINC2 from the Fassy fiasco.
I was rooted and rocking UKB2.1 on the Fassy, aside from the bloatware, I prefer the stock DIN2!
What is s-off? I understand it is required for root, but what the hell does it mean? Also, what is the xtc-clip?

Well it sucks that as soon as I'm leaving the Fascinate due to call sms gps & data issue's CM7 Nightlies become available for it. And the rooting aspect was cake with superoneclick and odin flashing.

It was a hassle trying to find a reliable radio for the Fascinate,having to turn voodoo on/off, getting the gps to work, etc. I found myself having to tinker the hell out of the device to get it to work properly. The inc2 is great out of box. I agree with what nitsuj said about the device.

I haven't rooted. There is no root for Gingerbread yet. I like the phone stock anyways. I think there is a signal issue with CM7 and Miui on Inc2. I could be wrong though, but thought I read that somewhere.

Most of the Droid Inc2s now are coming out with Gingerbread preloaded and there isn't a root out unless you use a XTC clip for it. IF by chance you get it preloaded with Froyo then you're good to go.
We picked up a DI2 from Costco for $30 this last Saturday and it still had froyo on it. Was rooted and rom'ed in 40 min. Easy peasy
Just out of curiosity... I'm coming from Fascinate also. This will be the first time I've gotten a new smart phone. What is the best way to backup my apps+data and move them to the DINC2 when I get it. Will TiBu work? Is there a more simple solution. I'm really just wanting to port over my Angry Birds progress and my Memo Pad app (not the stock sammy one) that has some important information on it. What method did you guys use if any?
TiBu only works if you have root, so if you get a DI2 with GB on it TiBu will not work for you. I know there are apps on the market that will save your angry birds progress. Not sure about your other app, it may say your notes to your sdcard.
I was thinking about getting an inc2, upgrading from my inc, and I was wondering if it'd be worth it, does anybody have generally a lot of experience with the inc1, and gotten the inc2, and liked it better? Is the hardware well, better? What about amount of roms, and other software things of that sort; is there a wider variety available for it, than there is for the original inc? Another question, since the Incredible 2 and Incredible S are almost basically the same phone, would roms for the inc S work on the inc2, or would they just not be compatible? Thanks, whoever might answer these.
I never had the original but i have had quite a few androids (aria, captivate,inspire, thunderbolt, and even an evo3d for a short time) i can honestly say the dinc2 is the most rock solid phone out of all of them. Its definitely underrated i love it. But no unfortunately inc s roms are not compatible

I own both of them. it's worth it. It's an outstanding phone.
Alright, thanks for the responses guys! Hopefully I'll be joining the inc2 community here in a few weeks, though it's gonna be sort of hard to leave the original inc after many months being a flash addict with it...
No worries we got plenty of good stuff to flash and our development is still pretty young. I think u chose the right phone, the thunderbolt got all the hype but i had one and absolutely hated it. Buggy ass phone with abysmal battery life, at least mine was

Me too, I really don't want to have to get a clip just to be able to root it. If I do, hopefully by the time I get one, there'll be a way to root it.
I had the Eris, then the Inc1, and now Inc2, Love it. highly suggest it.
may I ask, why not 2.3.4. I will get an Incredible 2 very soon but not sure about which version it has.

They don't have S-OFF for 2.3.4 yet. I guess it just depends were you purchase it. I purchased mine on amazon wireless and it came with froyo.
I had the original Inc 1 and now have the Inc2. Underrated is the best way to describe the Inc2.
It's everything that I wanted my Inc1 to be: faster and better battery life.
I was lucky to snag one off ebay that had Android 2.3 on it, and on first boot I made sure I rejected the OTA. Then I rooted as soon as I could.
I think the Inc2 is the best Verizon phone out right now, and here's why:
1. Form factor - at 4.0" screen is big, but not too big. All high end verizon phones are too big, imo, at 4.3"
2. It's fast - sure, on paper, it's rated at the same speed of 1Ghz as the Inc1, but the the CPU is made with the 45nm process instead of the 65nm of Inc1, which means it's faster and more power efficient. Also the Increase in RAM to 768 helps too. When rooted and overclocked (up to 1.9Ghz), it can be as fast as a duo core phone, or faster in some cases. I think it's faster than a Droid3 (duo core), the Inc2 has more ram than the Droid3, that seems to help.
3. It's still 3G - imo, 3G is fast enough, I don't need 4G draining my battery. I don't know why ppl make such a big deal out of 4G, I think battery life is more important in something that's portable.
4. Good battery life - The Inc2 easily lasts twice as long as my Inc1, even with heavy use. And it gets even better when rooted using an undervolted kernel.
5. Good community support - there are a lot of good custom roms for the Inc2. I've tried 4 already and liked them all. And there are enough ppl using the Inc2 that you can find a solution to most of your issues with a quick search.
I don't want a giant phone that's too big for my hands, and doesn't last a day on battery, and is supposedly better than the Inc2.

Awesome man , I'm pretty much completely sure this'll be my next phone, and yeah, I don't see why 4G is so important. I don't think I'll dabble in phones like that until that actually becomes more battery efficient. I was thinking about the Thunderbolt, but realized it's horrible battery life, and an extended battery would be too much bulk. Plus, a 4.3in screen at only WVGA starts making it look a little pixelated(sp?). I'd love the Sensation though, if only it'd work on Verizon...But oh well, the inc2 sounds amazing, definitely gonna get it, here in the next month or so.

My Eris 2 yr contract was expiring and I found a brand new Inc 2 on CL for $135. I ended up feeling sorry for the poor guy so I tossed in my old rooted GSB Eris so he would have a phone.
Bummer was, it had just installed 2.3.4... hopefully someone will come up with a fix for that real soon. G3 is plenty fast and the battery easily lasts all day. With moderate use it still has 50-60% at bedtime. Size is perfect, takes great pictures, it's very smooth and fast and so far absolutely trouble free. I just picked up another one for my wife and she can't believe the difference between it and her Eris. We are planning on going with NO contract for a while assuming I can keep my unlimited data plan. Highly recommended!

There is that method with adb, but I mean, you have to know how to use it...I'm still learning that. And that's what I'm doing, not going with the contract, I'm gonna keep my unlimited plan as long as I can. Thanks for the response though

Couldn't agree more I upgraded from the first Inc and I'm in love. This is the best phone I've ever had. Love the size and battery life most.

this is for educational and seeking knowledge Purposes only .
Incredible S Roms Could be installed on Incredible 2 , working 100% if you know how . But you should know that developers ( sense 3.5 ) don't usually make their roms Global as i researched . what is available now For incedible 2 are CDMA only sense3.5 roms ( No GSM Support !!! ) , for Incredible S of course it would be GSM only sense 3.5 Roms . if you live in a country that uses GSM networks only , Incredible S is a Better Choice because as i noticed is little development for GSM Support for incredible 2 , you will have to stick with what is issued by Verizon , and of course they would not issue Sense 3.5 .
Now to install Incredible S rom on Incredible 2 ( you must be S-OFF and Rooted ) :
1- you must have similar compatible roms for Incredibles S and Incredible 2
2- replace the Boot.img of the incredible s rom with the same one from the incredible 2 rom inside winrar window ( Don't extract then zip again , just drag and drop )
3- install the rom from recovery as normal , it will Boot OK
4 if you have error starting WiFi ,then flash this Kernel ( inc2_2.6.35.14#18 ) ,it will solve the Problem , thanks to EhabFG ,
the two matching Roms are
EhabFG Android 2.3.5 Runnymed V1.3|EXT4|Full Arabic sense 3.5 ( google it) - Incredible S
-MikRoms-Incredible 2 HD v2.1 [sense 3.5 GB 2.3.5] ( google it ?) - Incredible 2
Please not that Same procedure was tried for the updates issued for those 2 Roms , it did not work ( meaning they are not similar anymore ) although they use the same New Base 1.02.401.1 ????
Some developer suggests the following
- Replace Boot.img
- Replace Kernel (Module Folder ) inside lib
- Replace Sevice.jar in framework folder
