[NOT WORKING][MOD][GalaxyS][RECOVERY][10-Jun-2011] Clockwork 4.0.0.0 - new wipe menu - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

This does not work. I tried it and was corrected. The Samsug Galaxy S doesn't have a recovery partition according to users in this thread. Therefore, this thread has been discontinnued and should be closed.
First of all, this is not my work. I only compiled it.
This is the usual ClockworkMod recovery, compiled from the CM7 sources with additions/modifications by j_r0dd. What I've done is only to compile it for the Samsung Galaxy S (i9000).
The credits go to Koush for the recovery itself and to j_r0dd for the modifications.
j_r0dd said:
This is based on the latest CM7 source which I modified for myself. I take no credit for the recovery whatsoever, but I will take all the blame for my mods . We all know this is Koush's hard work. Just some things were driving me crazy personally. First was the confirmation menu. I really got sick of scrolling through all those "No"s just to flash something, so i changed it for me personally and just thought I would share. I also created a proper wipe menu. I got sick of some wipes in the main menu and the rest in the "advanced" menu. I made this more Amon_RA like. See the attached screenshot for my changes. That change has led to a few others by me. flash with fastboot or flash_image. THESE ARE NOT IN ROM MANAGER. Also if you have an issue with this take it up with me NOT Koush.

Original Nexus S thread with changelog here.
Only available in standard orange, I actually can't be bothered to find out how to make different color variants.
Download:
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Without the /sdcard mounting bug)
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Buggy when mounting /sdcard)
Disclaimer
These recoveries are compiled using the latest commits from koush, j_r0dd and others. That means they haven't been thoroughly tested and might have minor/major issues. I take no responsibility for any damages this thing might cause, but most things should work as intended. If you want something guaranteed to work, I think you should stick with one of the older versions.
Source code available here.

OK, and what am I to do with it?

Does this support RFS ?
Or only EXT4 ?

The recovery image is not supported to flash it on I9000.....

this is great.... i don't think it's Odin flashable rightnow, so not trying anything for now but would like to see it in flashable form. I am right, right?

The problem is I don't know anything about flashing an SGS phone. I simply assumed one uses an img file for the recovery. I'll see tomorrow if there's a way to make it work.

Stupid question?
Why remove it if all you need to do is touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm with stock recovery? and it does the same thing?

No, with this one you don't have so many "no" choices in the menu. And other differences in the menus as well. Look in the Nexus S thread for more details.

If you touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm on stock CWM you get dont get the "no" choices" menu changes I understand, but i dont see the point in removing the confirmation if you can turn it on / off by default

No, that's a different thing. In this recovery, you'll still need to confirm, but you won't have to go through so many "no's" to reach the "yes". You'll have no and yes as the two only choices. Also, j_r0dd moved some wipe features into main menu -> wipe. He also removed the obsolete "Install update.zip", seeing as people will browse directories and name files other things than update.zip nowadays. Things like that. That's the reason for the mod.

Updated OP to version 4.0.0.0.

Added back the 3.2.0.0 version in the OP so you won't have the /sdcard mounting issue. Hopefully it can be resolved soon, so we can start using the 4.0.0.0 version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for trying but a SGS does not have a recovery partition.
The recovery executable you have built needs to be embedded into the kernels zimage on SGS.
Its the one thing that stopped me building a psfmod recovery for SGS unlike every other device where recovery has its own kernel etc, the SGS recovery is in the main system kernel. Bad practice on Samsung for that.
People will have to wait.
FYI, CWM 4.0.0.1 is on githib now with sdcard bug fixed.

[Tool] Flashable Zip Recoveries

This is for those times when you want to change your recovery but don't have access to a desktop. You need to already have a custom recovery installed otherwise you can't flash the zip (duh!).
Here are some common recoveries in flashable form:
Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip
CWM_3.0.2.4_Recovery.zip
Thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
You don't need to do anything special for these. Flash them and your recovery will be changed.
If you want to flash a recovery not listed above using your current recovery, use the following directions:
Make sure your recovery image is not corrupt before using this.
Rename your recovery of choice to vrecovery.img
Place vrecovery.img in the root of your micro SD card
Place Flash_vrecovery.zip anywhere on the micro SD card
Reboot into your custom recovery and flash the zip
Enjoy!
This is fantastic! Thank you.
Wicked Love it! Thanks Dude
is there a way to flash a custom recovery from the stock recovery, my brother flashed the wrong clockwork on his optimus v and now we can't install roms and it currently doesn't have a rom on it. I managed somehow to get the original recovery on the device and I can get adb to connect to it and windows to recognise the device. any ideas?
thanks xda thanks my optimos was brick n now its work is a life thanks ..im use this Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip grasias grasiasssssssssssssssss
Not sure if you're comfortable adding it to the list yet, but the latest recovery used with ROM Manager, ClockworkMod 3.2xx (not sure of the final digits), does work on the Optimus V now, thanks to koush.

Is there an easy was to download the img? Can you link me? It's really simple to add it, but isn't this counter to the whole idea of rom manager?

I use the AOSP ROM (dead rom). For some reason, all the IHO ROMS keep rebooting me after installing all my apps. I also use the Xionia recovery and the Xionia 010-anykernel kernel. With that kernel though, your home key and menu key will be switched, but well worth it.

I use the asopCWMod recovery v3.0.2.4 I have the same problem with all the IHO builds, but I found that if I wait till just when all the apps have loaded and all the app icons are visable, then hit a lock screen widget and turn the screen off(wait 5min). When I turn the screen on and unlock everything works great.
I have to do this with every reboot, but it works.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but all the links for the recoveries in the first post are dead.

that's a lot of formatting in your post ;p
on the quick side:
so, my kitkat rom thread and twrp (both in my signature) still have live links to Google drive.
but...
kitkat pretty much requires setting up a sacrificial sd card with that twrp, which you can't remove from the phone. higher speed is better for the card.
that twrp has a kernel which reverses system and userdata, so even if you put it in internal mode, you have to modify updater-scripts to swap all mentions of system and userdata for it to work. with anything I didn't build, like anything pre-kitkat.
I have harmonia (important to set up the phone for activation) but if it's like my Evo 3d, you'll have to manually set the date back to 2019 or whenever the security certificate expired to get the activation app too connect or it'll just error out.
I also have a zip of harmonia I "fixed" to work with that twrp.
somewhere I also have bobzhome GB. and I think a reversed zip of that too.
I might even have older custom recoveries.
if you search around Google you might find the bobzhome rom stashed away downloadable, I was still able to grab it within the last year.
after a while I'll dig and upload stuff to my gdrive.
it sucks that Android file host deleted all my OV files though. I had a lot there.

Please disregard my question about CM7 I posted above. I just saw on your blog that "Looks like [you are] maintaining all three Galaxy S II Devices now." This is the best piece of news regarding ET4g development yet!
Hey man, did koush push this out in rom manager?

Chris and I got internal storage and sd card mounting last night.
Also, if you are planning on working on Cyanogenmod for the Epic Touch I would love to help you guys out.
Let me know.
I believe if you flash this over midNIGHT ROM you will retain root as the ROM is already prerooted. I odined this and retained root.
The only thing you will notice is the custom boot animation will revert to the stock boot animation. Other then that, this kernel is perfect. Thank you so much for putting this out.
Quickboot will boot you into the new recovery. Have not tried ROM Manager yet, only cause the like to be able to use the reboot option in Quickboot.
GREAT WORK.....

Kernel Messages boot animation

Hi,
I have made this custom boot image for myself and I wanted to share it.
I have disabled the bootanimation and I have enabled the kernel messages instead.
just flash the boot image and remove/rename /system/bin/bootanimation
if anyone is willing to help I would create an update zip which flashes the boot partition and renames /system/bin/bootanimation
Cheers,
Matteo

I really don't think so! This is as far as I know a modified Galaxy nexus boot image.
The thread was moved to "Galaxy Nexus Themes and Apps" but I don't really think that it's correct.
Tecnically it isn't a boot animation, is a kernel hack to disable it and show the "raw" boot.
Everything that is printed is printed by the TTY subsystem, it's not rendered by a bootanimation
this is awesome. I disabled my boot animation and it only shows the kernel messages for a few seconds then a plain android boot animation appears. Is there any way to make it longer or is that all that is supposed to come up?
i am on aokp b37 also.
good work!
@teknoraver
I would like to add this as a completely new section in my boot animation thread if that's cool??
Couple of clarifications though:
This looks more like a kernel edit to me and therefore this is somewhat ROM specific in that if folks flash this boot.img it will disable certain ROM specific features controlled by the kernel?
Assuming the above is true, a per ROM boot.img would need to be created to make this work whilst preserving all functionality?
To give an example, if you flash a custom kernel over cm9 you will find some of the settings options are blanked out and you are no longer able to use them unless you have a specific kernel control app or you start fiddling around with init.d scripts.
This sounds kind of like "live logcat", is it similar?

No it's different.
Livelogcat is a bootanimation which draws logcat messages in a complex manner.
My patch disables the animation and let the kernel print messages like it does on PC and servers:

Here, flashable zip in recovery
Using any kernel format installer (koush) does not touch the existing ramdisk (no problem on CM etc)
and Kernel.Messages.bootanimation_Restore.zip reverting /system/bin/bootanimation
(Edit : If you deleted that file already, flash Installing_system.bin.bootanimation.zip to restore)
I used image flasher GUI on my ns4g but apparently it is not supported for gnex. What are some other methods of flashing an image.

Advice Needed

right hiya,
I have a sony ericsson xperia arc s running android 4.04 and my carrier is 3 but I am locked to Tesco mobile (no modifications otherwise)
so recently I have been considering whether or not to put cyanogenmod 10 or 10.1 onto my phone, but currently do not have enough faith in my abilities and so have a few questions and stuffs :good:
so first off I haven't of yet installed any custom things onto my phone and have no experience doing so. I roughly know the processes involved and just about know how to do it but I am scared of bricking/destroying my phone.
soooo
1. how easy is it to brick your phone ( no sarcasm please) as in do you have to be a bit special to do it, or can it happen to anyone easily
2. cm10/10.1 reviews, even better is a review of that running on the arc s
3. known bugs with cm 10/10.1
4. whether or not I should go for it
5. moral counciling on the subject
6. a quick tutorial
7. response to any other questions I may have.
thanks a bunch in advance guys!

Lrn 2 google.
Also:
"1. Enter *#*#7378423#*#* on your phone dialer to access the service menu.
2. Go to Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. Check if Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes"
You you've got "No" then I don't think you can open your bootloader so only custom ROMs you can flash are stock based ones.
If "Yes" then go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow tutorial.
If you couldn't find something or if you don't understand some steps then please don't start another thread just ask in here or PM me but keep in mind that I wont reply instantly.
Firstly - since you're carrier locked - have you checked that your bootloader unlock status = YES? Since CM10/10.1 both require unlocked bootloader.

If your bootloader unlocked status is NO you'll have to contact alejandrissimo (if I spelt it right) for a paid remote unlocking service.

thanks
My bootloader is available to be unlocked and I have a few other questions.
1. Is there any way to revert back to my old Rom if I wanted.to.
2. Do you think the camera issue and the others will be fixed
3. Is this an easy process to complete ( romming ) or does it take a reasonable amount if skill because I am a complete noob
1. Yes - it's called a nandroid backup, and we recommend you back up every time before flashing anything so if you screw up you can always retire the backup (providing, of course, you can boot into recovery, failing which you've to flash a stock ftf file which will reset everything to factory settings including root.) Kernels still have to be flashed on a computer though, so you can't restore any nandroid backup, it has to be compatible with the kernel. So far, there's no way of flashing kernels on SE phones.
2. Nope don't think so.
3. Not if you read the OP, do research beforehand and especially important: read the general section. There's a lot of info there on installing ROMs/rooting/bootloader unlocking etc etc etc

again
sorry to be so nooby :fingers-crossed:
is there any app I can use to fix the camera
does cwm just backup my boot image or does that also back up my user files
does nandroid do the same
and also if you guys have successfully installed 10 or 10.1 on your device is there definitive set up process you could send me a link to that you know for a fact works that you may have used
For cm10,1 you can use ucam from the play store to fix the camera orientation. No idea about cm10 I havent used it
cwm creates nandroid backups which backup the whole ROM but not the boot.img (kernel)
yep standard installation procedure for all ROMs:
1) flash kernel (if applicable)
2) reboot into recovery (power+vol down)
3) wipe data
4) wipe cache
5) advanced > wipe dalvik cache
6) mounts and storage > format system, this is optional but I do it just to make sure
7) install ROM
8) reboot into system

Picture quality depends on camera drivers which are part of ROM so no you cant fix it with an app. We can only hope for sony to release source for camera stuff so FXP team can port it to CM.

CWM is custom recovery that can flash zip files and create nandroid backups. Nandroid backup is a backup of all system and user files excluding a kernel.

Start by opening your bootloader then download CyanogenMod ROM file for your phone. Copy zip file on your phones sd card, flash kernel then boot into CWM wipe all and flash zip file.
Sorry - meant to say that there's no way of flashing kernels on SE phones from the phone itself! Thanks for correcting!

I've already answered your first question. Do you even read replies? CWM backs up everything except for a kernel. CWM backup is a complete backup of all your system files and apps with all settings and stuff. You can delete everything and then restore your phone to a perfect state with this backup.
Don't look for a CM10.1 for Arc s because there is no official CM built for this version so everything you will find is unstable half baked cluster**** of unstable ****.
Start by unlocking bootloader if its already done then go to https://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/cyanogen-mod-10 and download FXP 206 for ANZU because its a codename for arc. When done go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508585 and read about flashing custom kernels. When flashed turn on your phone and repeatedly pres volume button to enter recovery, wipe all and then choose install zip from sdcard highlight ROM file then install and you are done.
CWM backs up everything on your ROM including your apps and settings etc. So if you restore from CWM the backup would be exactly as where you'd left it - as in if you sent Ben 3 messages, those messages will still be there after a restore. If you're logged into your Twitter account, you'll still be logged into your Twitter account. All the accounts you've linked to will still be there including your Google account.
CWM does not backup kernel though. That is a different story.
As for CM10.1 yes it is an unstable nightly version but IMO it is good enough for daily use. CM10 would be more stable but it is entirely up to you - the installation procedure is still the same

thanks for being a great help btw.

I'm sure someone can give a more in depth explanation - A kernel is like the "heart" of the phone, if you interpret it that way. It allows the ROM to run. Without the kernel the ROM will not boot.
Yep - you need a 4.2 kernel to run 4.2 ROMs. Likewise, stock-based ROMs require stock based kernels and CM based ROMs require CM based kernels. Usually the thread title states if the kernel is stock or cm based but if it doesn't look in the OP

right so if flash a different kernel for 10 will I need to flash another if I want to revert to my old, stock rom which if I am running ics would be 4.04 right? yes, no?

is flashing a kernel just as easy as anything else
most of the instructions I have found look something like this
http://droidxda.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/romarcsjb421wipunofficial-cyanogenmod_18.html
they mention fastboot for cyanogen (what is this) and nothing about a new kernel. is that because they expect you to know it or because you don't need to?
I'd recommend new users to use flashtool - its easier.
Extract kernel to place of your choice. Start flashtool, connect phone in fastboot mode (menu key+plug USB, do NOT switch phone on), press the lightning icon on flashtool and select fastboot mode.
Then select "select kernel to flash" there will be a pop up. Navigate to the directory with your kernel and click on it. It will flash automatically
And yes they did - it usually says flash boot.img or flash kernel. Boot.img=kernel

Ok so this looks good.so what If I wanted to go back onto cwm click restore and go back to my stock ice would I have to flash a new kernel and if so where would I find it.

Flash the above in recovery and then do a "reboot recovery" to get into Philz Touch!
Enjoy
Screenshot attached (thanks Skunk Ape1).
Huge thanks to @Phil3759 for an awesome recovery, and @Skunk Ape1 for testing!:thumbup:
This will be getting updated later today since Philz Touch 5.15 has been released
Thank you again for all your support :good:
I would like to thank Phil3759 for this very cool recovery and CNexus for the port for the gn2.
This is great! Considering all of the features this has I think it should be in original development forum. Thanks CNexus!

No problem buddy. My thinking goes something like, if it ain't broken, why fix it.
Getting an error when trying to flash though recovery. It gives an error "failed: getprop ("ro.product.device")"
I flashed 5.11 after I ran into an issue with TWRP 2.6.3.0 not formatting my system correctly. Very impressed with the features, but I wish the category buttons were just a few pixels wider. Other than that it flashes and erases perfectly. Thank you for the port!

You can resize that in Philz settings > GUI Preferences > Menu Height
I'd suggest you spend some time in recovery lol....you can basically customize everything

That means that this recovery is not for your device.
All I did was fallow your link and DL the file listed on AFH. It was file name philz_5.11-d2spr_cnexus.zip
Edit: just checked again. Same file. Was listed for gnote2.
Im running whomp4.2 and saber kernel. Tried flashing in cwm and in twrp and same error in both.
Awesome. I'll check it out now. I got a little nervous when I saw brightness settings and a file explorer option that didn't respond so I stuck with what I knew I will go in and change it now though. Thanks for the tip!

Just downloaded and updater script still has d2spr as ro.product.device
my phone has t0ltespr as ro.product.device
Hopefully I can just edit the script. I'm going to Nandroid and try. will let you know results.
EDIT==
Changed the update-script and zip flashed with no errors, but TWRP still starts when I reboot to recovery.
Just tried to Flash this but is just "Failed"
all set..Skunk and Daniel got me squared away..thanks...are the twrp backups compatible w/this recov?

Yes, if you find the "custom backup and restore" menu
Sorry, I'll just remove the checks from the updater-script then, they don't seem to be working right
