[Q] z4 root with OTA Update? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My dad only roots his phone with z4 root for wireless tethering.
As you guys know, a new OTA update was released for HTC EVO's.
If my dad's EVO downloads the new OTA update, can he re-root his phone with z4 root?

OTA update Question

Hi there
I just recently signed a contract with orange for the Desire.
Last Night I got rid of there crappy firmware and installed the stock Bravo firmware.
My question is, if an over the air update is released for froyo 2.2 what will happen? Will my phone download the Orange firmware 2.2, Bravo 2.2?
Or will it not work now and i will have to manually update using a downloaded firmware.
Thanks
Dion.
is it really an issue for you ??

Well yeah of course it is. I dont want to download the update over the air if its going to be Orange firmware. But if it uses HTC Generic Firmware then I will download over the air.
What happened to the help in this forum?
if you flashed a generic non branded rom ill guess you get a generic non branded froyo

So how long do you think until there is a fresh ota 2.2 with root available?

you can apply the OTA update if you wish but it maybe weeks, months or impossible to gain root access again if they've closed the loopholes so it could well be your stuck with it.
Maybe someone of the members here will provide us with a root-enabled update.zip

I'm pretty sure within hours of the official ROM being available to the mods there will be a download available.

When I was rooted with s-off I was able to download an over the air update but it would not apply so I assume the update to 4.4 will be the same.

You need stock recovery, etc to take the OTA. Check out the Android Development section. There's updated firmware and updated stock roms with instructions.

OTA updates/notifications with root?

Hi!
I have rooted after installed A5CN51C fw, is it the latest version? I'd like to know if I will be notified when new version is available, or if root has stopped it?
Best regards
I rooted while on build A5CN507 and I got the OTA update notification for build A5CN51C. But since I've rooted, can't apply the update.

Ok, good to know!
I did not root, but installed the Google Play Store. Still can't update with 51C
A5CN701 is available after root today! Should I update it since its 5.1.1 Android!!! Will it remove my root?

No, you SHOULDN'T! Currently there's no method to root and install Gapps on the N1 on Android 5.1.1! If you don't want any trouble, don't update it!
