Works fine here ...
Mobile is s-off'ed with clip
Simply put the file on sdcard and upgrade recovery as written by Maniakaz
Sammy98

Recovery is working fine here

When you backup a rom it works fine. When recovering it ****s your phone up. Found out the hard way and have now lost all my apps etc as my titanium backup has all gone corrupt also

Very useful for easy rooting

Thanks @Maniakaz, it is very useful. This recovery build provides easy & secure method for rooting as alternative of GingerBreak. You just need to flash the su binary + superuser pack (attached to post) with @Maniakaz recovery.

@Maniakaz
@dailor
Thanks guys. Managed to root my freshly s-offed/unlocked Wildfire S!
Goodbye HTC bloatware!

Wont allow me to download recovery. I click on the link, it goes to rapidshare and just sits there - there is no download link to click. Is the link in this thread correct?

Thx guys.. I have s-off and rootedvwith this guide my little wildfireS.
Thank you.

By searching some of these threads!
Anyway...
Put fastboot (in energy options) OFF and put your phone off.
Then press VOL DOWN + POWER and keep holding VOL DOWN untill you see the bootloader.
There you'll see on the first line S-ON or S-OFF.

[Q] !!!Please help with bootloader unlock!!!!

I tried a lot of method to unlock my bootloader on HTC Wildfire S, proble is that i have software 2.26.401.3 and baseband 47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M.....if tried directly on the pc with ruu.exe i gave the error 140....when i put the ruu on SDCard it say the the version is older....i make a goldcard, and he said again the the version is older.....if i tried to flash he said ''FAILED <remote: signature verify fail>''
I want to specify that the phone is unlocked, i tried 4 carriers and all work's good!
On HBOOT it say ***LOCKED*** and is S-ON
Please help! give me some advice!
PS: Sorry for my bad english!
Dont flash the RUU,directly go to the unlocking procedure
New updates have unlockable HBOOTS
Thanx
But, was a moment ideea to flash, i know that it is not good to flash it first, problem is that i tried and i read a lot of post's from XDA with unlocking procesdure for Wildfire S but why is the reason that not work for me!
If someone can help i apreciate!
Csoul is correct. Your bootloader is already updated to an unlockable one and you need to start at htcdev.com with the step that retrieves your identifier token and sends it up to their website. You cannot update your bootloader further.
Another problem!
I want to thank you for your advice, i make it UNBLOCKED with htcdev...but now, after i installed recovery.5.0.2.8 it stuck on black screen, HBOOT it's ok, boot ok, but it won't enter in recovery to instal root.zip!!!
What can i do now?
please help me!
it means cwm has not been flashed properly .so only you get black screen when you enter recovery .
Step 1: Flashing the Custom Recovery UI by XDA.cn
Again, make sure your device is S-OFF.
Again, make sure your memory card is formatted FAT32.
Place the PG76IMG.zip file into your phone SD card.
Disable Fast Boot from your phone settings (Settings > Power > Disable Fastboot)
Turn your phone off.
Hold down the "power" button and the "volume down" button for a few seconds till you see the HBOOT screen.
Don't press anything. The system will scan for some files and it will prompt you for an update. Move the cursor to OK (volume up) to start the flashing process.
After it finishes, press the "power" button to restart the system.
Let Android boot and delete the PG76IMG.zip file from your SD card via USB.
Congrats! Custom recovery has been installed. Process to step 2.
Step 2: Flashing the rooting script by XDA.cn
Copy the root.zip file into your phone SD card.
Turn your phone off.
Boot into recovery: Hold down the "power" button and the "volume down" button for a few seconds till you see the HBOOT screen. Let it do its thing and then select "RECOVERY".
At the recovery menu, use the volume buttons to select "install zip from sd card".
Then select "choose zip from sd card".
Then find the "root.zip" file on the list.
Select "YES".
Let the script do its thing till you see "Install from sd card completed".
Select "Go Back" on the menu till you find the "power off" option and select it.
Turn your phone back on and let Android boot
you can use the custom recovery PG76IMG.img or else clockworkmod recovery from
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
cwm recovery have more options ,so i prefer you to use that .
you can find those FILES in the source which i have specified.

Thanx, problem is that i can't make it S-OFF
ok, i understand and i saw this thread in many site's, but problem is that my phone it isn't S-OFF, is UNBLOCKED with help from HTCDEV but i don't know exacly how to make S-OFF!
Android 2.3.5
Sofware 2.26.401.3
PS: i tried to do this but at the stept when i put PG76IMG.img it said in HBOOT the version is older!
please help if you know some tips!!!
you need an xtc clip to get s-off you can probably go to a phone shop and ask them to do that for you. but htc unlocked is good enough if you're only going to flash roms or root

If you have ADB installed, do this.
Download the Recovery image from here: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Put it in a folder where you have installed adb. Example: c:\android
Then reboot phone into bootloader and enter fastboot mode after it scans.
Connect the phone by USB cable. The FASTBOOT should change into FASTBOOT USB. If it doesn't, download and install HTC Sync.
Go to cmd and type the following:
cd c:\android
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
It should flash successfully.
Then enter recovery and flash root.zip
Done! Enjoy.

so you unlocked your bootloader through htcdev.then use htcsupertool to root your phone then install cwm recovery from market and then install it.now when you select recovery from hboot menu it ll take you to cwm recoverymode then install custom roms which you want.

okay thanx.follow the steps:
your unlocked bootloader through htc dev so use htcsupertool to root it.wants brief information here is the thread see it.
http://www.htcwildfiresblog.com/2012/03/guide-to-rooting-htc-wildfire-s-235-s.html
now you re rooted.then open android market find clockwork mod recovery.install it.after when you open it it ll ask for root access ,allow it.
and in clockwork mod app you will see first clockwork recovery mod click on that screen displays your model "wildfire s" then install it.now you have successfully installed cwm recovery.
its dont..find custom roms which you want and place in your sd card.(just in sdcard dont put it in any folder)
now when you want to install custom roms go to recovery mode (via hboot>recovery or cwm app second option recovery mode)
then install files from sd card and select your rom.zip
its easy.hope its works.but dont forget to backup your stock rom ok..
good luck
---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:51 PM ----------
and about increasing internal memory:
two options:link2sd,app2sd
first of all you have to download minipartition tool
http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html
and format your sd card to fat32,ext4 and linux swap.
then if you want to increasing your internal memory in your stock rom just install link2sd from android market.thats it
and
want app2sd install custom rom which supports app2sd and you have to a zip file which you can get at your rom(if it supports app2sd) named app2sdinstaller.zip kind of.and install it via cwm recovery after installing rom.
overclocking kernel:
i dont have knowledge about that but its mainly depends on your custom rom.if rom has oc kernel you can overclock it by setcpu,no frills etc apps.(dont overclock more than 768Mhz,it ll dangerous can melt your phone)
Not work

okay.you done same as mentioned here:
Now that you have unlocked your bootloader, launch SuperTool.exe.
Make sure your phone is loaded as normal and that USB Debugging is enabled.
Press 1 to prep using Zergrush method.
Once it has done that, press 3 to root.
Once it has rooted, type reboot and then press enter.
It will reset your phone and you should now have root.
(If it did not work, try pressing 2 instead of 1 on the above instruction.)
Now on your phone, superuser app ll installed on your phone directly but if thats dont work.go to market and download superuser app.and tried hope it ll work.
if it isnt work tried again.once i have same problem as you re facing but when i again use supertool it ll work.
it won't work
i tried step by step all you say, but unfortunately doesn't work!!!
what can i do ?

[UPDATED] 4eXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC9 as PB99IMG

Updated to the latest version, 4ext Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC9
EDIT: No need to rename it now, just download and put on sdcard.
Edited because some people could not get it to work because renaming it was the hardest thing in the world :banghead:
All credits to Madmaxx for this great recovery....
Download PB99IMG.zip and put it on the root of ur sdcard (not in a folder) and then with ur phone off hold volume down + power. ur bootloader will look for the PB99IMG then ask u if u want to update recovery, volume up for YES, it will then ask you to reboot device, volume down for NO. Once its finished u now have 4ext recovery and just use volume buttons to navigate to recovery then press power button to enter recovery. I have tried it myself and it works, its the exact same method to install as Alpharev's hboots via PB99IMG.
Dont forget u must be S-OFF lol
Dont forget to delete it off sdcard once ur done or u will get asked to update everytime u enter bootloader

(Also u can extract the PB99IMG.zip file and flash recovery.img via fastboot commands or android flasher)
phone asks to update, i have to start it with vol-up, but i have a little problem: my vol up button doesn't work, is there any other solution to start?

I've got a problem which is similiar,
The Desire was rooted once through alpharev, custom romed and used for a couple of days. Afterwards the rom was crap and the user decided to get back to 2.2. I don't know how the user installed 2.2 stock froyo but it was up and running again.
Now Root is wanted again, so i installed CWM 5.0.2.0 through fastboot, i can access CWM but as i select a feature like for example "wipe data/factory reset" or "reboot system now" only the background of CWM persists and the blue menu vanishes.
Returning to normal mode just through pulling the battery.

I would recommend 4ext recovery personaly. Anyway download the PB99IMG and rename it to just "PB99IMG.zip" put the PB99IMG.zip on ur sdcard, boot into bootloader (vol down + power) and it will ask to update recovery, vol up for YES then it will ask to reboot device, vol down for NO. Then boot into recovery. Check if the rom is on ur sdcard by selecting install from sdcard. Let me know what it says.
Or u can download a new rom of ur choice by searching Desire Android Development, if u do choose a new rom let me know what coz ul more than likely have to partition sdcard and change hboots.

Thank u for the quick reply. I'll try 4ext instead of cwm, but iam a little bit confused what the difference may be.
Iam familiar with rom installing and sdcard formatting with ext partition for more space, i just cannot install any rom.zip because the recovery doesn't let me access its features.

HTC One X (Rogers - Snapdragon core): No Rom Problem

I messed up real bad.
I tried installing the CM10 mod on my HTC One X using TWRP instead of CWM because CWM would never flash onto my phone.
I did not make a backup (Like a noob). Then when I installed the CM10 ROM, it wouldn't let me finish the last part (flashing).
And when I tried to fix it using ideas on the forum it wiped everything on my phone.
All I have left is Bootloader/Fastboot and Recovery.
When I boot into TWRP and try to boot phone it says I can't boot because I have no Rom (Obviously I have nothing on my phone).
I tried everything I could find on the first 10 pages of google.
Does anyone know what to do?

Steps for installing a ROM
Hey..
You can try following the below steps. First charge the phone upto at least 50% battery (to be safe). Then :
1. Download this pack>> Fastboot Pack http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616741
2. Extract the boot.img from the Custom Rom you are trying to install in a folder on your computer.
I recommend ARHD ROM >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
3. Extract Fastboot Pack into a folder on your computer and replace the boot.img by the boot.img extracted from the Custom Rom in Step.2
4. Turn your phone OFF
5. Turn your phone ON in bootloader mode by holding the power and vol down buttons at the same time, your phone will start in HBOOT mode. It will be displayed somewhere in the middle of the text.
6. Use the volume keys to move up and down the list, and select Fastboot, then press the power key. Now your phone will come in FASTBOOT mode.
7. Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable. Your phone will now display USB FASTOOT instead of just FASTBOOT.
8. Run 05-erase-cache.bat
9. Run 06-flash-custom-boot.bat
10. Run 08-install-clockwork-recovery.bat
11. Disconnect the USB cable. Your phone will now again say FASTBOOT.
12. Use the up or down volume key to select HBOOT and press the power button. This will take you back to HBOOT mode.
13. Use the volume keys to scroll to RECOVERY and press the power button.
14. This will take you to Recovery mode, now you can flash the Custom Rom you want using Recovery mode by using the " Install from SD card " option there.

The forums for your device are over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
I suggest you make a post over there, they'll be able to help better than we can. Just know that roms and RUU's for the Tegra (international) One X will not work for your device.
Uh oh

Hey..
You can try following the below steps. First charge the phone upto at least 50% battery (to be safe). Then :
1. Download this pack>> Fastboot Pack http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616741
2. Extract the boot.img from the Custom Rom you are trying to install in a folder on your computer.

Do you have CWM installed? Because you can mount your sdcard inside CWM and add files there!

But, on TWRP I cannot mount SD card.

Looking at your other replies, I have a question, just to be sure, is your One X , S-OFF ? If not you need to do that first of all. Let me know if you need the steps to do that.

My phone is S-ON. If you could link me the steps to make it S-OFF that would be awesome of you. (They work for the rogers dual core right?)
You can't make your phone s-off for the moment...

There is an awesome tool by hasoon2000 for doing this, which you can find here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1604439
Just use the above tool to S-OFF your device, it should take you to HTC's developer's site. After S-OFF, flash the recovery and then follow the steps I have given before. If you need more help with S-OFF let me know and I will provide detailed instructions for doing that.

[TUTORIAL][STEP-BY-STEP][DEV]How To install a custom ROM on HTC Wildfire S

Hey, guys. I'm a Xperia arc S developer, but I also own a HTC Wildfire S and I found out a very easy and fast way to flash CWM, kernel and ROM on our Marvel devices. So, here is the guide step-by-step:
Unlock the bootloader using this site ------------->HTC Dev
Download any custom kernel you want.
Download recovery -----> CWM for WFS
Download any ROM you want and place it on SD card.
Open Windows Terminal Emulator in directory where you have fastboot files (you got them during unlocking bootloader)
Put your phone in fastboot mode by (when device is off) holding power button and volume down, than confirming "fastboot" option by pushing power button.
Connect your phone to PC via USB.
In opened Terminal Emulator on PC type
Code:
fastboot devices
If Terminal shows you one device available you can proceed to next step.
In Terminal type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERYNAME.img
In Terminal type
Code:
fastboot flash boot KERNELNAME.img
Unplug the USB cable from phone and confirm "bootloader" option by pushing power button.
Highlight "recovery" using volume buttons and confirm power button.
You'll see now CWM recovery. Optionally, go to "backup and restore" and make a backup - there's always 1% chance somothing goes wrong.
Select "wipe user data/factory reset".
Go to "install zip from sd card".
Then - "choose zip from sd card" and choose .zip with your ROM.
Confirm installation and wait.
Select "reboot system now".
Enjoy custom ROM!
I hope it makes you flashing custom ROMs on HTC Wildfire S even a little bit clearer.
Click "thanks"! :good:

All good up to the recovery part
Hi,
I'm new to android but have flashed lots of Windows Mobile type devices in my time.
I have unlocked the WFS bootloader sucessfully. I put the device into fastboot mode, connect to USB and open the CMD window. I type in the command and successfully write the recovery file (in about 3 seconds?). Now this is where progress halts for me:
If I got into bootloader, and then recovery, the phone vibrates once and displays the white screen with the HTC logo. And there it remains! I left it for quite a while (say 20-30 mins) just in case it was doing something that took time but alas, no.
I can remove the battery and reboot into bootloader, OR get back into "normal use" with a normal restart, so the device isn't bricked. I just can't seem to get into recovery. I've followed this and another tutorial from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878031 both saying pretty much the same thing.
Have I missed an obvious step please? Everything looks like it's executed correctly, but I seem a little stuck. Do I need a new Kernel to get into recovery? That makes no sense to me, but I repeat: I'm new to Android!
This is a WFS on UK TESCO network, 2.3.5 ROM installed from the factory, HTC sense.
need some help

sir i recently purchased HTC Wildfire S . I tried to flash custom rom on it but stuck somewhere.
firstly i unlocked the boot loader by using the HTC Wildfire S AIO kit by Hasoon2000 v1.0 and htcdev website.
then i flash custom recoveries like TWRP , clockwork mod recovery using HTC Wildfire S AIO kit by Hasoon2000 v1.0
but when i tried to start recovery in mobile , it do not works and my phone restarted at this moment.
then i read many posts of HTC wildfire s and read about S-off And S-on , tried to turn it off but unsuccessfull.
i also tried to root it but recovery does not work so nothing happens.
then i restored stock recovery using the same tool and i have attached video what happens to it.
So pls help

Thanks for refering me this post.
it solved my problem
goood
good tutorial
Why do you have to download a kernel? It's just more difficult.. Just flash the ROM and there you have a kernel and with CM you can overclock your phone easily... And if you dont have CM, download ROM Toolbox from Play Store and there you can overclock your phone too
Btw, nice and easy tutorial

Hey bro thanks a lot!
I was stuck at the annoying signature verification on stock recovery....
and you helped me with that recovery.img file.
thanks again...
I stuck in my HTC WILDFIRE S
My current bootloader is :
*** RELOCKED ***
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.09.0099
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.57.39.10M
Feb 8 2012,18:29:31
I tried to install custom rom as described:
1. I unlocked bootloader
2. I not sure if I did any kernel
3. I flashed the CWM recovery of "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img"
4. I flashed the ROM of "marvel-cm-9.0.0-rc0-unofficial_rom-alpha2-signed.zip" (this is the only rom that I can successfully flashed from your list)
The ROM is very smooth but I was facing WIFI HOTSPOT tethering problem, and the internal storage is very limited, therefore I tried to flash back to the original stock ROM RUU. That's how I ended up with the RELOCK bootloader and I couldn't get it back to UNLOCK. I tried "fastboot oem unlock" but failed.
My questions:
Is there any ROM that is compatible with the CWM recovery which have no problem with WIFI and WIFI HOTSPOT? (limited internal memory is not really a major concern to me, it is just could be superb if I can have more apps with it)
If I wanna flash back to the original stock ROM, what could I do at this stage?
Please help me, your advice would be very much grateful to me. TQ

You can install this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256576
It is the original ROM, a little bit customized. While installing you'll have a program which will ask you which options you want for your ROM, for example which theme, etc. You can choose to keep the original look and apps.
If you want more internal memory, make a second partition (format ext4) on your SD card. Search the web for a tutorial. Then in the installer select int2ext when prompted. And you're done

Question, nothing wrong with your guide. If we have s-on why are we booting the kernel? Recovery can't flash the kernel so wouldn't we have to flash it not boot from it?
Thanks

Mate just suggesting politely that you should search but here are my 2 bits,
1) for cwm , press volume up+power+home simultaneously; I think there is another method (and a YouTube video, check madmacks cm10.1 ROM thread)
2) for download mode, power+volume down
3) you cannot get into official recovery , only the 2nd init recovery (like cwm) is user accessible
