[REQ][Mod?] Step's to make our 6bars into 4Bars - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone please fill me in on how to do this?
Same as how Simply AOSP has 4bars and other gingerbread ROMs have 4bars

You would just use bar4 image for signal 5 and 6 bar3 image for signal 3 and 4 bar2 image for signal 2 bar1 image for signal 1. Or some variation of that. This is what happens for replying while intoxicated.

This is fairly simple but does require some framework modifications..
All we do really is replace the 6 images of the 6 line signal strength bar with the images of the one with 4 as already mentioned.
To make it accurate you just name them accordingly and do some math to get it as close as you could...
Each bar of signal is represented by an image with 1 out of 6 bars or 4 out of 6 bars in the framework. So knowing that...
1 - 2 out of 6 real bars of strength is represented by 1 out of 4 bars in the icon (1/6 and 2/6 are roughly 16% and 33% signal strength, represented by 25% on the icon.)
3 out of 6 real bars are represented by 2 out of 4 bars. (Self explanatory 3/6 and 2/4 = 50%)
4 out of 6 real bars are represented by 3 out of 4 bars. (4/6 is 66% and represented by 75%)
5 - 6 out of 6 real bars are represented by 4 out of 4 bars. (5/6 is 83% and represented by 100%)
^^^ That's how I did it. You could switch 5 out of 6 real bars to 3 out of 4 on the 4 icon bar since it's closer to 75% then 100% but I just went with it... You just rename your new signal strength bar pictures accordingly in the framework (framework-res.apk) and done!
I don't think I can provide a more detailed exclamation then that
Edit: I don't have file names of the signal strength icons in front of me, but they are in framework-res.apk and shouldn't be to hard to find, there will be 6 of them, I believe at the end of the file name is their number so yadda_yadda_1.png for example.

Comp Themes and My Scoring

I love this competition and the themes it bought to light. All the themer's made some amazing work but like they say only one can win. I couldn't pick by just saying which one i liked cause there were a few i liked. Some were great in certain areas and ok in others. So i made my own scoring system. My system focuses on the areas that i use and see all the time. They are:
Boot Image
Clock
Dial Pad
Google Search Bar
Icons
Menu Buttons
Notification Bar
Notification Drop Down Bar
Programs Tab
Settings Buttons
Unlock Screen
Zoom Buttons
Each of these criterion has a maximum value of 10 points for a maximum total of 120 points. The final criteria is called Eye Candy. This is just my overall score on how the theme looks as a whole. Does it stick to the subject of the theme? How sweet does it look? Eye Candy in the end is worth a maximum of 50 points for a final total of 170 points. My final score was calculated by having the sum of all the criterion over the highest possible sum that can be achieved. So X/170=.xxx and .xxx is then turned into a %.

So thats what i've done so far. Haven't slept since i got these last night. I've charged my phone at least three times today. The themes were amazing. I hope i don't offend anyone with my scoring. This is just my opinion. Others can have something that is the complete opposite. But man this was fun. Hope we do these as often as possible. Now, It's time for a nap
wow, thats a great scoring system, now i know what to do for the next theme for it to rock
btw , the link to my file has a zip that contains the wallpaper, and the update.zip file
hope that helps with mine.
No points to Gloss Suite for the menu lock screen?
IMHO that's one of the most impressive innovations anyone did.
That screen was cool, thats why my eye candy is high. But the actual screen to unlock the devise with gestures had nothing. It was the same as the stock one.
Whatever works for ya. So I guess you are going to be voting for Dark Knight in the contest?
You do realize you still have to fill out the pdf form to enter your judging. This doesnt count as a vote.
Where can i find that form? I'm a donater
In the comp theme stickied.
Sent Mine In. Hope Dark Knight Wins.

[Q] We have CircleBattery, why not CircleSignal?

My line goes from 4 bars to 0 bars so quickly, my connection is always dropping. I want to keep an eye of my connection in real-time, meaning a percentage. I've got Prono but I'd rather it be in my status bar. Is this possible with the framework etc?

The idea is great, but I doubt there is a possibility to do that. I can make circle with 25% step, but this wont be a solution.

But surely it's the same principle?
Battery status icon, originally roughly 8 png's >> 100 png's
Signal strength icon, originally roughly 5 or 6 png's >> 100 png's (plus the R signal icons etc)
?

if only all was so simple we whould have it done.
but signal strenght is calculating and showing not the same way as battery (no xml files to edit for it).
Still, i would love a 5 (0 + 4) step circle signal. Or maybe a square?
Or:
- a 0+4 step pie slice of signal
- a zig zaggy line
- The word 'signal'
- a "tower" shaded in for the signal strength.
Dunno, but there is alot of leway for creativity here. Hmmm....

Galaxy Nexus Black wallpaper = Battery saving (experiment result)

This is a direct recreation of an experiment performed by gogol on April of 2010. Although it is well known that a black background uses less power on AMOLED screens, I wanted to establish actual figures for the Galaxy Nexus.
Testing Condition:
- Fresh boot on 4.0.2 yakju Galaxy Nexus
- Wifi OFF
- Mobile network OFF
- GPS OFF
- Bluetooth OFF
- Screen at home screen with default icon placement(no clock widget)
(1) At maximum brightness, screen on for 15 minutes
- Pure black wallpaper will consume about 2% (from 80% down to 78%)
- Galaxy Nexus wavy blue wallpaper will consume about 4% (from 77% down to 73%)
(2) At brightness = 20+%, screen on for 15 minutes
- Pure black wallpaper will consume about 1% (from 72% down to 71%)
- Galaxy Nexus wavy blue wallpaper will consume about 2% (from 69% down to 67%)

Although no one is going to stare at a wallpaper for 15 minutes straight, over time, it should add up to fairly decent savings with normal use. I really was surprised by the power usage. Despite its size, the screen is pretty energy efficient.
those arent really reliable numbers given the error margins of the experiment (battery reading, ambient temp, etc)
have the screen on for 4 straight hours, and maybe we'll be talking

I was originally going to make it an hour long but the maximum sleep timer on stock ICS is 10 minutes and I didn't want to sit around tapping on the screen every 8 minutes I'll probably find an app or something and try it again overnight. Although not 100% accurate, it directly reflects previous experiments.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out.
There was already someone else who tested black vs white in this forum. The results are bit surprising.

Not surprising at all.
1280x720 tiny little LEDs all want their own few ยต-amps. Those that are switched on, that is. ^_^
I will try a pure black wallpaper and report back.
EDIT: Made a pure black 1280x720 wallpaper. Save anywhere on your device and "install" by viewing with the gallery app > select options.

[Q] What is the "usable" resolution?

I've been having some trouble finding the screen resolution without the status and navigation bars. Does anybody know this?

I just tried measuring it using the "Pointer location" feature in the "Developer options" menu. I'm not sure how accurate this is seeing as I had to eyeball it, but looks like status bar the top is 50 pixels thick and the navigation bar the bottom is about 95 pixels.
Knowing the resolution is 1920x1200, grabbing some calipers and measuring it out might be more accurate.
Of course, nothing will be as good as breaking into the code and actually seeing the values.
EDIT:
Did a screenshot with the layout bounds highlighted and opened the .png in Paint. I measured 48 pixels for the status bar and 96 pixels for the nav bar. It corroborates what I found in these links:

[Q] Progress Bar Split using Advanced Parameter

Morning all.
I am trying to make a fancy battery bar widget using 4 progress bars each curved 90 degrees and rotated to make a full circle, and each individual bar only showing a 25% range of the battery level, so bar 1 is 0-24%, bar 2 is 25-49 % etc.
What I'm trying to do now is split the bars into sections depending on the battery level, so when the battery is below 75% but above 50, I want the 3rd section to split into 5 chunks but have the first two bars stay solid... if you get what I mean.
But I've searched and tried to find the Advanced Parameter for progress bar chunks/splits and I cannot find it. The text on the advanced parameter button in Zooper says "...control almost any aspect of this module...", and I'm not bashing, but is this one option not available or have I missed the appropriate keyword from my XDA/Google searches?
Thanks

@Mokum020
Thanks for the tip I think that's the way to go.
I'll tell you what as well, trying to get the segments lined up with eachother is a PITA!

How about making two progress bars for each section, one solid and one in chunks and show/hide them with the offset parameter at a certain % level:

I thought this was an interesting idea so I built my own version of it, attached. Would like to see the OP's as well if willing to share.
As the OP mentioned getting the segments to line up to the exact pixel/millimeter is easier said than done, but sometimes close enough looks...close enough lol.
