Maybe this should be posted on a car forum (actually tried that and never got a response). But i was hoping someone might know of a way where i can by pass the voice control built into the radio of my kia soul, and instead just use the voice control built into android but using the BT mic and speakers in the car? i.e. have the bt system in the car act like a bt headset

Your BT in your vehicle is trying to use voice commands to control your phone, and you would rather use the IN PHONE voice commands and not allow the KIA to control your phone.. right?
Aside from using the audio input feature and allowing the phones mic to operate.. i dont think its currently possible.
right - i want the car to be dumb and just relay everything to/from the phone without trying to do anything itself. Right now when i connect the phone to the car, it downloads a copy of the phone book and i dial by telling the car who i want to call and it then tells the phone to call them.
Man if there's no way to disable the car's voice controls, that's incredibly short sighted of whoever makes the BT system in the car. I guess it's too much to hope that they even considered making the controls updatable through USB or something huh?

Hi, I'm a first time poster and I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out.
I have an SPV M600 and have just bought a Pioneer DEH P75BT car stereo because of its bluetooth capabilities.
It has two bluetooth modes: Telephone and BT Audio. After a lot of playing around I have managed to get both modes working together....ish!!!
I've installed the A2DP hack from this site enabling the streaming audio which actually sounds fantastic through the car speakers.
The problem is that to get the BT Audio to work I have to delete and repair the phone with the stereo every time I get in the car. This involves the following actions:
Open Comm Manager
Tap settings
Tap bluetooth settings
Tap devices
Tap and hold the Pioneer BT unit
Tap delete
Tap yes to confirm deletion
Tap new partnership
Wait for scanning to complete
Tap the Pioneer BT unit
Tap next
Enter passkey (four taps)
Tap next
Tap finish
As you can imagine, this process is a real pain in the backside every time I get in the car so my question is this.
Can the above actions be automated in just one command? If so how? (bearing in mind I do not really know how to write scripts)
If someone could even point me in the direction of learning to write a script for this I would be grateful. I have downloaded and installed MortScript but I don't really know what I'm doing with it.
Why when you tap and hold the device doesn't the "set as wireless stereo" command work the same as when the stereo and phone are newly paired? Surely it's the same command.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Can't help you except to say that I experienced the same with a pioneer BT radio too. My soolution was to return it to the store and buy myself a parrot BT car kit which works just fine...

Luckily I don't give up this easily. I have played around with and taught myself the basics of mortscript and have managed to write myself a script that does all of the above in one command. It's not quite perfect yet but it does mean that I can get in my car and start driving whilst the phone is busy pairing itself with the stereo.
The problems I am having so far are as follows:
I have to soft reset the phone each time before pairing with the stereo, otherwise the audio only seems to be transmitted to the front left speaker in my car, which is a bit strange.
I am forcing mortscript to try to pair with the first device in the list of detected devices, which is fine if there's no-one alse with a bluetooth device in the vicinity but not if there is and it detects theirs before mine.
Does anyone know if I could get mortscript to select a detected device by it's name "Pioneer BT unit" rather than selecting the device by simulating a tap on the screen? Also, if the device called "Pioneer BT unit" is not found the first time, scan for bluetooth devices again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I was just about to point this fella in your direction ...
You'd have to do an indefinite loop while checking a registry value to see if your stereo was found. There is a key, i'm sure, for a list of found devices but I don't know where that is. As for detecting your car stereo as the one to pair with; depends on what keys are saved, sounds like it may just be possible.
I'll have a look into this as I'd like to get this stereo also if it can connect & stream automatically
If returning it is still an option, I'd get the Sony Bluetooth Audio headunit. Works great for listening to audio from your phone. It pairs it automatically. I also use Jawbone headset for talking on the phone. It kicks off the stereo and goes to the headset when a call comes in.
The built in mic is in the headunit and in my loud car, its subpar in quality. Whicj is why I use the excellent Jawbone.
I personally own a Peekton 950 car stereo and it works great with my wm5 (a2dp enabled) and my new WM6. the only thing that it does not do is autodiscover and connect the A2DP while it does it for the headset profile.
one other thing I would enjoy is to have the idtag displayed while getting the A2dp but I guess this is not part of the spec.
As I wrote in this topic, I guess the A2DP profile has two way of linking.
1°) The "headset" way : a bluetooth A2DP headset initiates communication to the music player/WM device.
2°) The "passive" way : The speaker just waits for a known bluetooth audio player to connect/link to it.
What surprises me is the fact you need to unpair-repair your device everytime : have you tried what I explain in the previous topic : just go to bluetooth devices , long tap on your spearker's name and choose "use as bluetooth speaker" (may not be exact name of the option since I've a French phone ).
On my phone, this simple (but annoying enough) action connects my phone to my bluetooth speaker (not an in-car one).

It's a very usefull software when your device is connected to an A2DP speaker/headphone.

slide up the screen, then click the slender "accept" button (and
then click the little down arrows, then click speakerphone if you're
in a car without bluetooth).
Is that really the best/only way to do it? Anyone working on an
app that makes answering calls just hitting the search button or

As of now, I find it very distracting/dangerous to answer calls while

Sorry but I also would like to know how to terminate a phone call without looking at the screen
At the moment I'm turning the screen on, and then click on 'terminate the phone call'
But I'm sure there is an easier way, especially using the physical buttons.

if you have bluetooth hooked up to your phone, you can just answer the phone call via the bluetooth device.
Bluetooth is the only hands-free way, I'm thinking they weren't trying to make it particularly easy to use while driving, in many places this is illegal, in the US it's happening more places all the time.
Some places are even attacking Bluetooth usage while driving.

Agreed, and wish MS would also include rSAP as many luxury European vehicles (Mercedes, VW Group including Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and other manufacturers/brands) support rSAP, which offers great features such as address book migration to the car for ease of dialing out.

I've heard his protocol is on its way out. My Honda pulls the contacts just fine from my HD7 & 2 and the G1, pulls the exchange data and loads it into the car.

Sad if true as with rSAP the cell phone antenna/receiver that is built into the car is far superior in power than the one inside the phone. What protocol of Bluetooth is your Honda using to pull the data and i assume it pulls the data and uses an antenna/amplifier unit built into your car instead of the cell phones?
TBH you dont really need to look at the screen to answer it, flick up and press in the middle on the left....
But like everyone said just get handsfree, if your car doesnt have it you can buy them stupidly cheap anyway.
On the new MINI its really good, pulls the contacts and all of your text messages from the HD7, you can read any new text messages on the navi screen
I think it was HTC or LG that has an app out there that allows you to do various phone things with the placement of the phone. Like turn on the speakerphone by placing the phone face down after you've answered a call or turning it face down while ringing to silence the ringer...

I think it uses Address Book Profile, it's abbreviated as ABP (I'm not 100% sure what is abbreviated there)
It uses the mic and amp in the car for audio, it uses the antenna built into the phone, I've never used the external antenna port on my phones, I think my Tmo Wing was the last one with this port available externally.
For A2DP I'm using a device called FIPO, and a Soundgate core, and a soundgate Honda kit. The Honda kit hooks to the back of my nav unit and pretends to be a CD changer, so that I can use the controls on my steering wheel and nav screen. The Core is connected to the Honda Kit, core comes in two models, iPod and Zune, I used the Zune for my Zune. I use the iPod Core to connect to the FIPO. The FIPO is controlled by the phone, and it switches between that device and the nav unit's Handsfree profile based on wether or not I'm on a call. After I'm finished with my call the phone switches back to the FIPIO and resumes the audio.
Thanks for the detailed reply, as i use the Dice Electronics unit for an iTouch, which like your unit one needs to remove 6-disc changer and insert the Dice unit that hooks to the iTouch. What i like about rSAP is that the car has a far better cellular amp/antenna plus rSAP migrated contacts from the SIM to the car's computer. While i could take out the sim card and insert it into the car directly, that is a hassle versus using bluetooth rSAP for each time i enter/leave the car. The car does work via 'basic' normal Bluetooth with the WP7 for handsfree with all the usual features, yet enjoyed the rSAP advantages. Thanks again, ALL help is ALWAYS apprecaited.
I have the Samsung Car dock, and I have my phone paired to my stereo (Sony DSX-S300BTX [aka. alphabet soup]) with an external mic which I have mounted up by my visor. I can use vlingo once every time I'm in the car, and after that it goes haywire trying to listen all the time. Is there a way to turn down the sensitivity from the phone, or do I have to do it in the stereo somehow? I have a relatively loud car (Mustang GT) but the exhaust is stock, so I don't think it's that loud. I just want to be able to use the voice recognition reliably.
When you trigger the speech recognition, make sure you leave about half a second of silence before you actually speak. I think it uses that "silence" part to actually build a baseline. That helped quite a bit for me.
Under the Voice talk Settings, Motion, turn off Motion Activation. Most vehicles shake and vibrate too much for that to work right anyway.
Did any of these work? I have the car holder (no bluetooth or audio in/out) and I want to use the phone as my navigation with voice commands. Problem is, unless the car is at a complete standstill, voice talk will hear "Hello Galaxy" but then it won't hear anything after that. The red bars in the microphone icon are going off the charts indicating its picking up too much background noise. I usually use it in a rental car and I've tried all kinds of cars, all of them fairly quiet sedans. I've also tried it in my friend's Mercedes and same problem. Is there a work around? I've never had the motion control turned on. Thanks.

I have had a lot of trouble with my Galaxy's bluetooth connecting with the system in my Infiniti M37x
I now am able to have it so everytime I get into my car, the phone's "phone" bluetooth connects automatically, I can use the hands free system to make and receive calls AND the phonebook is downloaded into the system as well. Works just GREAT! I can talk on the phone and I have my contacts there. All hands free.
But......
that is only if I pair it to the phone part of the Galaxy.
If I also pair it to the audio device, then the troubles begin.
If I were to pair the audio to my car, the music sounds great...but once I turn off the car and leave, come back, the car won't recognize the phone part. Even if I go to BLUETOOTH settings, and click the little button, it won't stay or connect to my car.
This worked great with my EVO using Gingerbread.
Is this an ICS thing?
Are there any apps that would allow me to just leave the phone as the default car connection and if I want to listen to music, just click something to switch it over to audio part?
Whenever pair to the audio and I use the audio bluetooth connection, I have to unpair and start all over to get the phone to connect.
Hopefully this makes sense. Any advice would be helpful.

This is a Samsung thing (and I hate their phones because of this)
To have this function correctly, you need to enter car dock mode. To enter car dock mode, you need a samsung car dock.
If my phone is docked, I can stream music, receive calls, etc, all work great.
If I leave it in my pocket and I stream music and receive a call, the audio comes through the phone, and not through bluetooth.
My E4GT was like this. I opened an issue with Samsung to which they replied "Working as designed"
No other phones work like this, only Samsung and their ****ty bluetooth switching.
I think you can also solve this by going AOSP or AOKP.
I have no issue with my s3 when connecting to audio or phone. and im able to answer calls, and play music no problem
How did you pair both? Do you have to switch between the two?

I am also having this same problem but only after flashing a customer ROM. With the costume ROM the phone will connect phone and I can make calls no problem but I can not get music to stream to my car stereo no matter what I do with the costume ROM when back to stock just to verify this and I have no problems streaming music on stock ROM or making calls via Bluetooth.

The first two days the phone worked great. Now it connects but the sound is noisy and unintelligible from either end. I don't know what changed. anyone can help me on this? can I stream music through bluetooth if it ever starts working again?

I own a Dainese Jet Stream Tourer helmet with bluetooth audio and microphone. The helmet worked fine with an old Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone I had.
When I changed to Android, I was never able to make it work out. I'm able to pair the helmet with any Android smartphone, but I can't use the helmet commands to make a call, or even direct the audio from the phone to the helmet.
I believe the helmet is not broken in any manner. I believe it has something to do with the Android OS not being able to recognize the helmet and it's protocols, the way it should.
I can't get any information regarding the helmet bluetooth module to see if it's A2DP compatible or if some former protocol was used with the helmet.
I started to get curious, but got lost on the endless technical information on bluetooth available on the web. I was wondering if someone was willing to show me the best way for me to probe the helmet and the steps to work out a viable solution to make it work out again.
The helmet has a small button that used to work to activate the microphone and use the Windows Mobile voice commands to make calls, the button was also used to pick a call or reject it and to control the volume of any audio application running.
May anyone be so kind to help me get a way to be able to use the helmet with an Android OS?
