[Gingerbread]{file}Button Back-Lights like they used to be - Galaxy Tab Android Development

Unrar attachment, then copy or push this file in /system/lib/hw and overwrite or rename previous. Reboot.
Button back-lights will function again as they supposed to and did in Froyo.
The hard keys will go on using the Tab and go off after 4 seconds.
Update: Working on stock gingerbread/kernel 2.3.3 (Chainfire CF and Dip7 kernel), Overcome 2.0.0 and Koxudaxis kernel (up till 3.0.8c)
Update: (15-6-11) Patch doesn't work for Overcome 2.0.1. Hermes nor CM7 is supported.
!Auto-dim, when battery is under 10% can be overruled by toggling auto-brightness on/off in notification bar!

doesn't work for my cm7;

Tested it on stockrom gingerbread, don't know about cm7. Should work on Overcome though.

Installed on stock Gingerbread, working perfect.
Thanks a ton, that is much better! I can't imagine why they changed it in the first place.

They probably changed it because many (most?) of us prefer the lights to be on with the screen! Still now we have the option.

why on earth would anyone want the 4 key lights on while watching a video?

Thanks! The button back lights have been driving me nuts when I am reading on my Tab. Works on Overcome 2 Gold.

Just use connect bot, remount the system and copy the file over.

Or put the .os file on your sd card and use root explorer to move file to where its needed...
Like Root Explorer, you can change the permissions from R/O to R/W...

Very good. Thanks

Thank you very much for this....have been expecting somebody to bring this out....

Thanks!
Just what I've been looking for. I can confirm it works on my tab running Overcome Gold as well. You my friend, rule.

anyone know why the lights stay on in netflix even with this patch?

Hmm, I wonder why would anyone want to do that (turn off the buttons lights)? It used to piss me off royally when I was using my Tab in the dark and I couldn't see the damned touch buttons because they switchd off after 3 seconds.

Í had the same probleme, but after a few months of use, I know exactly where the buttons are now. So keeping them off while watching a movie is better.

Works great on Overcome 2

No LED app Alternative?

Apologize if this already exists.
would it be possible for one of the talented developers in our forum to add an option to have the four buttons (menu, home, back, search) blink to notify of a new message, email, missed call, etc? or maybe be able to choose a button for a particular event, like menu button flashes for new emails, home button flashes for missed calls, etc.

BLN (back light notification) is an app that allows the 4 capacitive buttons on our phone or any other Android device to blink as a notification whenever you receive a message, missed call, voicemail etc. You can download the app from the Android market but for now it will be useless to us because we do not have a kernel to support this feature. You must first be rooted and then flash a custom kernel that has BLN enabled in order to use the app/function. I believe that a custom kernel is in the works since all Galaxy S phones had custom kernels to support this feature. Even the Nexus S (which isn't Galaxy S) supported this feature once a custom kernel was installed. For now I recommend downloading and using NO LED (can be found in the MARKET) in the meanwhile.

I keep my haptic feedback set very low. Missed message flasher seems to vibrate at the same intensity as haptic feedback so it's nearly useless. Does this happen to yours or am I doing something wrong?

Uninstall app, then reinstall! then when done go to widgets and put the noled widget on screen, then delete widget. also u can go into menu and turn it on in settings and it also has a test feature also. Plus the dev is very helpful, if u have problem look him up on xda.

Un root Arc S

Sorry in advance if this ha already been asked, but I'm using the forum using tapatalk and I'm not as confident using tapqtqks search feature compared to the search feature on the web version.
I had to do a repair flash of ICS to resolve some issues I was having which ment that I lost root access to my phone and now have been left with no way to update LiveWare Manager and wondered if once I've rooted my phone and set it up how I like it is it possible to then un-root so I don't mess my phone up again without loosing all my customization, as there are some custom features that I miss like the onscreen ICS Buttons that I've now got so used to that I keep pressing the menu hardware button to bring up the task list by mistake?

Thanks!
U first need odin and the cwm md5 tar.. open odin put in the pda slot and make sure auto reboot is only checked... start and let it run. Then u should have cwm... make a back up b4 u flash any rom and ur good to go... anymore questions just ask

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the menu buttons on the Captivate Glide to behave like notification LEDs? I know this hack is available for other phones, so just wondering if anyone has this working on our model?
Cheers!

Me 3!
I was also annoyed at the lack of a notification LED.
There are some apps in the market that ring/vib every few minutes if you have an unread msg/email/missed call etc.
If you have the Tasker app, there is a profile called Notification Reminder on the Tasker Wiki that does this.
Good luck all!

I use NoLED from the Google store.
It uses the screen not the menu buttons, is very configurable and works pretty well.
The screen is kept mostly black to reduce battery drain.

Changing lock screen, pen pull and other system sounds?

I'm a nerd. I already have my notification sound being "incoming transmition" as said by the compiter from star trek tng and my ring tone being the opening credits. I want to edit system sounds to improve on this nerdyness. I remember changing the pen sound once but for the life of me I can't remember where. Any help would be appreciated.

The light saber sound on spen already exists. It comes with jedi rom. (don't know if u guys have it here) but here you go. Just rename the original file and replace with these, set permissions and reboot.
Edit: system/media/audio/ui
most roms have unique notification/boot/call sounds.
Annnnd its really easy to change them up b yourself by simply renaming it the same way.

Yep, I replaced the four Keypress files in system/media/audio/ui and then I doubled checked the spelling of each and played each from within the ui folder to be certain that the volume and quality were suitable. Everything looks and sounds nice in there. I'm scratching my head on this for awhile now.

I did reboot. I'm wondering if the ROM I'm running is taking precedence over the files I'm replacing. As in if I reboot then the ROM loads the original sound again. It doesn't seem like it should be like that but I wonder if unzipping the ROM and replacing the files inside there might work... thoughts?
btw thanks for all the responses

Thanks for making this program.
It didn't fix the issue I was having --- On M919 Tmobile ROMs, the soft keys come on any time you touch the screen. I had an l337M and the keys only come on when you touch them. Is there any way to restore this functionality? I hate having to choose between keeping them on all the time, or off... I know what you're saying, but that's the default behaviour on the l337M's (At least on Rogers). I read some reviews where someone mentioned the same thing... I don't mind it though. It's better then having them on all the time.

And to disable the buttons completely, there is a file under /system/usr/keylayout
That needs editing. Can't remember which one exactly. A lot of people actually remap them to other functions to get more use out of them.
