Keeps downloading image even when already downloaded - HTC Wildfire S

My girlfriend has downloaded an image from internet by long pressing the image and then selecting "save image" on her Wildfire S with stock Android 2.3.3.
The problem is that the phone keeps downloading this image over and over again even when it is already downloaded. It tries to download the image about every sync action for over a week already.
Before i just delete the whole history i thought maybe someone here knows the answer to this problem, so she can avoid it in the future.
Many thanks for your help!

Hi, I have similar problem, but with applications. Sometimes phone starts downloading already installed app. Even if I set all apps to manual update only.
This behavior is really killing my data plan limit!
My friend with the same phone has this problem too.
Anyone have similar problem or solution to fix it?

The same with me. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Same here. Must be something specific to the wildfire S

I've got the same issue. I guess it'll go away once I can flash a CyanogenMod or MIUI ROM

Works for me alright
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App

It's worth completely removing the offending application and then reinstalling it. I had the download issue with 'LED Light'. Removed it and reinstalled it and problem resolved.
I now have the same issue with another appl - will try the same solutoin
It seems to happen when you do an update which is interrupted partway

We ported this rom on the Aria and had the same issue. I replaced the DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk with the ones in CM7 and it now works fine.

Can you offer this for us?

Here are the apps. You need to delete them from your current rom and replace them for these.

How do I delete them without root access? My Wildfire S is not and can not be rooted at the moment

I assumed the Wildfire S was "rootable". That's a very goo question. You can try something but I have absolutely no guaranties it is going to work because I personally never tried it. Either way, it's your call.
**Make sure you back-up your phone to the Google Server because this will wipe all the data in your phone.**
1- Run the RUU for your phone. This will extract the rom to the temp folder of your computer. For me it's under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\. An easy way to find it is to clear that folder prior to running the RUU. This way, it should be the only thing in there.
2- Enter the folder and look for a zip file called rom.zip
3- Open the zip file using 7-zip or Winzip. DO NO EXTRACT THE FILES ON YOUR COMPUTER TO REPACKAGE AFTER. THIS WILL SCREW UP THE ROM. You really want to make any addition or subtraction from the archiving utility.
4- Extract the system.img file. Now the challenge is to find a way to edit the content of that file. I personally have no idea how to but I'm sure there must be some tools to do that.
5- Once you've managed to open the .img file, under system/app, there should be DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk. Delete those and replace them with the ones I sent in my previous post.
6- Close the .img file.
7- From 7-zip, delete the system.img file and replace it with the one you edited.
8- Close 7-zip and follow the rest of the instructions from the RUU.
Again, no idea if any of this will work because I've never been in the situation to make changes on an unrooted phone. Your biggest challenge is step 4. If you cannot get in that .img file, then I guess you'll have to wait to get root access to your phone. My guess is that it shouldn't be too long since HTC agreed to unlock the HBoot.
Good Luck!

And is it possible to change this files in a "running" ROM Image (rooted, without flashing)?

I think so. Like I said, I never tried it so it's all speculation here. How about you try to install the apk on top of the ones you currently have, i.e. without deleting them? You do have the ablility to install from Unknown Sources correct?

Yes i have. But I'm new to Android, so I want to be careful.
I replaced both in system\app folder (without installing) and after that my market doesn't work anymore.
So I had to flash my ROM cause the Backup files didn't work too.
Was a lot of work, making all new (but at least Titanium Backup works ).
Maybe somebody other knows more?

I am a bit confused here. What do you mean by you replaced in system/app without installing? Also, you said you used Titanium Backup. I thought this app only worked on rooted phone
Unfortunately, I cannot be of much help because I really have an Aria with a ported rom from Wildfire S. I personally fixed the download issue by deleting and reinstalling these apps, but in reality, I have no idea if that would work on the actual Wildfire S. Sorry that I cannot be of any help.

My phone is rooted.
I mean I changed the apk files in folder system/app with those from you (using Root Explorer). Before I deleted them I made a backup of the original ones.

Ok, so try this then. Delete the apk and don't replace them. Flash the Rom and boot the phone. Then install the apk from ur original Rom, i.e. not the ones I provided, but the ones u originally deleted.

I already flashed my Phone with original ROM and it works again, but the bug is again there.
The point is, I dont want to flash my ROM every week so I hoped there is a solution to change without flashing again.
Otherwise I will wait, my there will be a fix from HTC.
But I wanna say thank you, for your help and your patience with me!

I'm with you on the flashing. I'm not sure HTC will release a fix for this though. However, what u can do is return ur phone and get another one. It seems not everybody has this issue. I'm personally glad I could resolve it on my phone.

Any ROMS with a File Explorer? Got the Stuck at download problem.

Hey there folks!
Basically, I've been hit with the stuck at downloading problem with my HTC Desire.
It won't download ANY apps whatsoever apart from PayPal for some reason.
I've tried everything, deleting cache/data for various programs, factory reset, HARD reset, installing different roms and even been given a new phone by Orange! Still no luck.
I've even tried creating a new googlemail/gmail account, activating GTalk and all the rest. Nothing is working for me and it is seriously stressing me out.
I was wondering, are there any ROMs out there with a FILE EXPLORER built in? I don't care what file explorer it is, just as long as it has one. That way I'll be able to install MyBack Up Pro and install the rest of my Apps from my SD card instead of having to download them.
I don't really care what ROM it is, I've gotten to the point where I just want a working Desire with apps!
Any help would be grateful.
Much obliged

just do a search for paid apps online and you will probably find them available to download for free and do a manual install via HTC Sync
Filestube.com is a good one
if you like the app, it is worth considering paying for it to support the developers
Hi there,
thanks for replying =]
I can't seem to find a HTC Sync that is compatible with the Mac OS X
I'll have a look around a bit more though.
River.
Is your phone rooted?
If so, open the Rom zip file and add the apk for a file explorer and then install it from the recovery menu, remember to disable verification.
So I would literally just unzip the DeFrost rom, add in File Explorer apk into the zip and then re-zip it.
And then go to the Recovery and just do a wipe an reinstall the rom?
Would that actually install the File Explorer too?
I tried HTC Sync.
For some reason my phone won't connect to it! (Tried on both Mac OS X and Windows 7)
This is definitely not my lucky week >_<
Well that works for me
I use Leedroid mod.
I open zip file and put APK's under Data/App
But i dont unzip, i just open the zip in winrar, add the apk's , choose add and replace and thats it.
then i install rom with signature verification disabled.
Newly flashed rom with my own apk's installed from start.
GIve it a shot
Ahh
I think thats what might have went wrong for me.
The signature verification feature?
How do I disable it? Is it through my phone or through my laptop?
I tried unzipping then adding the apk file in the Apps section and THEN rezipping it but it doesn't work.
The ROM won't install.
Must be because of the verification thing...
In the recovery menu under advanced u can disable it if u use amon ra.
if u use clockwork i think its under the flash zip menu
SOmetimes when i do this it doesnt work first time ( most times it works), if that happens just wipe and reflash.
Good luck
Perfect!
Thanks very much friend.
Finally working. Soon as I got File Manager installed the rest of it became a piece of cake!
I owe you one Charon72!
River
No problem, Just happy i could help solve your problem.
Enjoy ur working desire

[Q] Removed Bloatware, what happens when i need to update

The tread says it all, So I rooted my phone and uninstalled amazon mp3 and city id via titanium backup. What will happen when I go to update in the future. Is there a way to add these applications back without doing any flashing?
What are my options to be able to update via OTA without having any issues?
I have tried moving the cityid.apk to the system/app folder and installed it from there, but it just installed as a normal application that can be removed.. I figured that I need to install it as a system application. I now know that I should have just renamed them.
Thanks

Amazon MP3 is in the Market. You should have rooted, used ROM Manager to back up your system, and then removed bloat. Most ROM's have these items removed, some still use CityID or another version that does the same thing.
My suggestion is if you are rooted, you can backup your apps and such, just run another ROM.
I couldn't find CityID in the Market, but various ROM postings may have the apk for download if you wanted to re-add it. I would check those postings to see if it is listed there, and make a directory to move the files to if you think you may need them again! Prevents headaches, especially if they are needed due to corruption or something weird.
Correct me if I am wrong, the only reason I wanted to restore these applications was so I could update when honeycomb or whatever the new Update is going to be.
With that being said, could I just downgrade my phone using the PB31IMG.zip , that would wipe everything out.. removing root, and it would bring back original files that were on phone ( city id etc.) then the phone would automatically update itself over the air? problem solved?
You could just run ruu on it if I'm not wrong
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Well now I am really confused, the cityid.apk file just randomly showed back up in the browser... so i went and looked and it says it's a system app and wont let me uninstall it now... haha... this is so weird, so now I just need to find the original amazon mp3 then i will put it back in there and see if that works.
Is anyone able to get the Amazon Mp3.apk and upload it and send to me. I would like to get the one that originally came with my phone. Version 1.7.67 it is the one that came with stock froyo

Ok guys heres the deal. I have a droid inc. i rooted it couple months ago and ill never look back. i have got pretty good at installing roms. however when it come to "flashing" custom mods and themes im lost. i am trying to put a black themed market on my phone. i have downloaded several zip files that say they have it. i know all about astro and all that. i have tried renaming it update.zip and installing it through clockwork. and i have read forums that have talked about removing certain files for it to work. i have put certain roms on my phone just because of the themes for them that contain the "black market" but cant get them to work either. both using clockwork and metamoph. it always says missing or corrupt file. I hope that there is someone out there that is willing to spend lil time with me to get this figured out. thanx guys. btw i am currently on Remption revolution rom but have many others.

I know that one thing you need to figure out is when the ROM was built did he build it with drawable-hdpi named drawable-hdpi-v4 or just drawable-hdpi ? you can check by unzipping the framework-res.apk. I have noticed that if the rom does not have the drawable-hdpi-v4 and the Vending.apk does then it will not install. I have had to decompile the market that I like and recompile it to remove the -v4 for the SR 4.1 Rom. What market are you wanting? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042506 is a nice black market.
ok im not quite sure what ya mean. i checked the link ya sent. heres one for ya. when it says 3.Ensure that you have deleted every trace of the market from data/app.
where do i find that? i appreciate your help

Get root explorer a very good app. Then go into data/app and see if you have the vending in there. If you do then delete it. I will download your ROM and check the directory name. Also check out this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957331 there is a nice black on there.
Ok I just checked your ROM and it does have the -v4 at the end of it so the last link I just posted pick the black marketplace and flash it and it should work.
ok cool.trying it now. will be back in couple min. thanx for all your help so far. let me ask ya....when u say flash it what ya mean? rename it to update and apply update in clockwork? or just mount it to card and install from sd in clockwork?

Just copy it to your SD card and install it via CWM or Rom Manager.
i just tried installing it right through clockwork and it said it installed but no black market. gonna try the second method of deleting the vending and updater files.

Well I bet the issue is...when you installed the ROM it did not have 2.3.6 of the market so it did a update...I had that same problem and followed all the instructions to get it replaced and it did not work. I ended up reinstalling the ROM then flashing the new marketplace imediatly to fix it.
You could replace the vending.apk from the ROM and replace is with the market you downloaded and then reflash the ROM.
ok cool im gonna try that now
does it matter that it is a zip file and not a apk file?
where do i find the vending file? cant find it in the rom
i cant believe this is so hard. lol

Use winrar and right click on the zip file select open with and then select winrar. Click on the system/app then you will see vending.apk then goto the new vending and drag and drop it into the winrar window and select yes it will overright the one that is there now. You must unzip the new marketplace until you have the vending.apk file. Do not add the .zip into the ROM.
Ok when you use root explorer, you need to click the box at the very top that says "mount r/w". Otherwise it is a read only file. The file you are looking to delete can be found by navigating through the following folders. system, then app.
To flash a black or other color market, usually you must first flash a stock market.zip through clockwork. Then reboot the phone, and open the market once to make sure it flashed correctly. Reboot into clockwork again, and flash you black market zip. Start your phone again and check to see that you have the correct market that you want.
If you have any problems with these instructions let me know and I can explain in more detail or step by step.

thanks for all the help guys. i reall appreciate it. im gonna try both ways now. will get back in couple min. its cool to have people here willing to help dumbasses like me. lol thanx again.
awesome it worked. kinda get how you did it. couple more questions if ya dont mind. 1. i really like the rom "gingerbread-inc-deck-1.2x" cant remember where i got it. so i tried to find the vending file in it and its not there? any ideas? i found the right folder but nothing. think u be willing to help? 2. how do i go about putting custom notification bars on? u know with the cool battery and signal icons. any links to any of them? i know ur prolly a busy person so any help u can give and have gave me is very appreciated.

[Fix]Unknown error code during application install: "-24"

I don't know the cause. I have noticed that it has happened on different devices, there have been assumptions if it's because of a specific kernel or rom, although it may be, I beg to differ. I feel it is happening during the Android Upgrading Apps # of # process.
I noticed that this error pops up on most of the apps that I had installed, but are not there after my update. So far with me, it happened only to my paid apps, but not all of them.
When the app disappears, android thinks it's missing, but some files think it is still installed.
Regularly when you install an app over itself, there is a notice telling you that the application info will remain. That's where the problem lies once an app mysteriously disappears. Because part of it is still installed.
Go to
/data/data/
and search for your
com.application-address.whatever-it-may-be
Some of them you can tell what they are just by the names, the others, google-em.
If you wish to keep the information that it contains for the app, I recommend making a copy of it first.:good:
Delete it
Install the application, it'll work, trust me. :fingers-crossed:
Now replace it with your copy.
Done.
Stop factoring resetting if you don't want to. Of course, if you have a lot missing, it might be better. :crying:
If someone can automate this process by making something check the com.address to installed apps, that would be awesome. :highfive:
This totally worked. Thanks bro!
I was setting up my Nexus 4, and this was Tune In Radio Pro was the last app and wouldn't install, I kept getting that stupid -24 error.
Saved me from doing a factory reset!
Works!

Worked for me as well.
You need to use something like ES File Browser with Root access to get to /Data/Data
I'm running into this issue with a bunch of apps that got lost when flashing a newer CM10.1 nightly. I can't access those folders in data/data since ES File Manager is one of the apps that gets this error!
Is there any other way to fix this? I can't install anything, not even Chrome :crying:

Someone maybe didn't understand the meaning of the thread creater. You must have the root access. Then, open Root Explore and go to "data/data" NOT "sdcard/data/data"

In case it might help someone else I thought I'd pass along what I just did to fix the problem. I booted into recovery and found the com.speed.... file for root explorer that way and deleted it and then rebooted. I then was able to load and install root explorer from the play store and now I can sit back and delete all the rest of the apps that won't install correctly...
I guess I could have done it from recovery also but I forgot to write them all down before I rebooted!

Remove Bloatware from T-Mobile Note 2

I searched many various sites including this one to try and find the best and safest way to uninstall bloatware. I tried Titanium Pro and when I tried to Backup/Restore and selected an app to delete it then rebooted my Note 2. I looked back into B/R and found the item was still there. There was a message indicating that it may take 2 or 3 reboots to complete the uninstall.
I am looking for an app that will run and unistall all bloatware that is safe to use or gives you the option to select apps to unistall. I did download one which looked very good and even listed the apps it would uninstall. It was SuperNote2 DeBloatware which was a zip file. It would not unzip and I could not get it to unzip after numerous downloads.
Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn't post that. Yes, it is rooted. I did that a coupple of days ago using Kingo Android Root. Very quick (less than 3 minutes) and simple.
Thanks for your reply and help.

I did find that posting yesterday and downloaded mrRobinson_Note_II_De_Bloater.v1.00.zip to my PC. When I unzipped this file I saw folders:
apps
assets
meta-inf
These folders dated back to 2/28/2008. So, I was very unsure to use this.
When I opened:
apps it contained: GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
Assets contained; common, fonts, icons, langs and themes.
Meta-inf contained: Com, Cert, Cert and manifest.
This just did not look right for what this was suppose to do. So, I left it.
Your opinion?

You are using a custom recovery, aren't you? CWM or TWRP ... Just follow the instructions in the 1st post. Boot into recovery and select that file and click custom and either run the program or just look through the files that you can remove and exit if you don't want to use the program.
Or, you could just install a custom ROM and not have to worry about this?

That thread is quite old and if you noticed, somewhat inactive with some issues reported. I always use Titanium Backup to "freeze" apps - this usually removes them from being active (and thus saving CPU and battery) but they still remain should you want them. It's a simple and painless process as you are not really deleting them and they do not use much memory anyway.
Here's a great list for the Samsung Galaxy line of devices from Android Forums: http://androidforums.com/metropcs-cdma-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/695070-safe-apps-remove.html

I honestly suggest using a custom rom instead... there are lists out there of apps to remove but it is more based on whats safe to remove vs not safe... ultimately its all user dependant (ie what apps do you use vs what someone else uses)... for me, I love to just install either CM (as reliable and "bare" as any of the roms come) or Jedi roms via aroma (if you still want to hang on to the TouchWiz side of things)... Aroma installs allow you to choose the bloatware you want to have and disregard the ones you dont want... there are tons of tutorials online that take you step by step... make sure you follow the directions (completely) and happy flashing!!

Thank you all for all your suggestions and help. I will try your suggestions and report back on what I did. Thanks again!!!
Started looking at the various ROMs. What is the easiest to flash and your recommendations?
Thanks!

Dont know if you are still in need of help trying to figure out how to flash roms but, you would first need to install a custom recovery. The two major recoveries are TWRP and CWM. They're on par. I used CWM for years but switched to TWRP. From there you first want to make a backup of your original rom and flash as many roms you want to try out. If you dont like the rom, just restore. I dont know how familiar you are with flashing roms but it takes like one try and you pretty much do the same thing over and over.

Thanks for your advise and help. Just got through uninstalling all recommended bloatware via TBpro. Will look at your recommendations. Thanks again!
MTP USB Device?
I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching all day, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.

can you reflash? I hope so! There is sitll a way to reflash from sd card thought and install stock f/w or if you could remember or figure out which apk is responsible for that function. ...
That latter option is why I started this

ps this is why its so important to make a backup in twrp or cwm....google it or find it here! they also call it a nandroid backup...VERY IMPORTANT for issues like this. As previsouly stated you should be able to put the stock rom (check out sammobile's web page for official f.w) on the sd card and from there you can boot into recovery mode and install it from there. I believe. If that don't work look into mobile odin which I have never used. sorry for he typos lazy!
