Having issues seeing if I have S-off/S-on - HTC Wildfire S

I've tried holding the volume down whilst powering up my Widlfire S but I can't get to the HBOOT screen. The phone just switches on as normal. What am I doing wrong??
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

resolved:- Had to disable quick/fast boot.
S -ON so now I need to find out how to "S-off"!

Can you tell us noobs how to disable/re-enable fastboot in order to see the HBOOT screen?

[Q] I rooted, flashed, and then what appears to be bricked. I am looking for help.

I'm fairly new.
I rooted my phone and flashed Virtuous rom to it.
I ended a call then my phone froze, it was frozen for a while so i took out the battery now it will not power on.
Can anyone help?
If anyone is gonna help you we need more info what rooting method did you use? did you flash a eng Hboot? what recovery(most likely clockwork) does it power on at all any HTC screen? boot screen? try holding volume down and power to boot it does it bring you to the boot menu? what does it say on that screen? answer these questions and make sure you let us know exactly what it says on the boot menu screen if you can get there does it say s-off or s-on so on so forth reply back ill be watching this thread next few days to try and help
Agreed with above. Give as many details as you can. Also it would help if you link to the tutorials you used (if you dont know specifics to how you rooted)
The phone doesn't power on?
Are you on the latest clockwork recovery (3.0.0.5) ?
If so...then your phone should automatically boot to recovery when you plug the charger in while its off.

Help Desire has black screen issue. Do I need Goldcard

Hi guys, I have managed to get black screen issue whilst trying to revert to stock rom on my gf's phone. I was using custom rom before using the unrevoke3 method, but never made a goldcard. The phone is O2 branded.
All the info I can find refers to having a goldcard. Is this true? Is there another way. I have read so much now and can't find a definative answer.
Thanks in advance
Seg
When do you get the black screen? Or you don't have screen at all? Can you go into the bootloader (vol - and power button)?

The black screen is there as soon as you turn on. The phone is booting and I can get to bootloader, but I can't see anything on the screen. I had originally flashed using the unrevoke3 and Alpharev methods, but never created a goldcard and every method I have read mentions needing a goldcard. I don't at the moment have another device i.e: android or win mob device to get the sdcard cid so for now unable to make a goldcard.
A bit stumped to say the least.
Seg
Can you access the device with fastboot?
Sounds like a slcd brick for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831734
Exactly can u access fastboot? or just take off the battery and put it in again.
One can only use fastboot if one is s-off.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I have s-on.
Not sure about fast boot as I can't see anything on the screen.
Dont need a goldcard.
1. charge the phone
2. take out battery and put it in again
3. turn on the phone(just hit the power button once) (it will vibrate and make the booting sound)(DO NOT touch the phone, just boot it)
4. Use this (http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe)
5. you should see a working phone...
6. report if u can get it working

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This solution should be stickied. I had searched loads of threads and loads of sites, but nothing gave a definative answer.

Why does my RUU not work?

I'm trying to restore my desire (telus) to factory defaults using the RUU. Whenever I try to use the RUU then I get an error during the step "Waiting for bootloader." I've installed HBOOT drivers and the regular HTC sync drivers, why would it not be able to see the bootloader? Any help would be appreciated, my warranty ends in 3 days and I really need this fixed soon.

Make sure you booted into fastboot and not hboot.

I start the RUU with my phone turned on normally, it then reboots into some HTC bootloader that I've never seen which is where I get the error.

To get into fastboot, you MUST NOT boot your phone normally. You have to press and hold back button first and then press and hold power button until a white screen with three androids at the bottom appears. On this screen you should read FASTBOOT in red highlighted letters.

I know what fastboot is but I figured that it was irrelevant to my issue. Just booted into it and the RUU is working just fine. Thanks a ton for your help, I would've never thought that I'd need to be in fastboot to get it to work.

[Q] G2 Stuck on HBOOT/Volume Keys& Power buttons do not work

I did a battery pull on my gf's phone because it was acting funny and had no service. I turned it on to see that it goes straight to HBOOT. i even try to get to the recovery and it goes to HBOOT. Every way i try to reboot it, it goes into HBOOT. The Volume up and down keys do not work and either does the power button so i cannot choose to go to recovery or select anything from the HBOOT menu. Someone please guide me into the right direction or can somebody give me a list of things to do? I would greatly appreciate any help given. PLEASE AND THANK YOU ANYONE!
ps - It is rooted with s-off
don't worry, in the worse case, our un-brick expert here on XDA, Josh - connexion2005, can un-brick most any bricked G2 for $40
here is his website!
he has 435 thanks here on XDA - that should tell you something about his magical powers!!
You could use fastboot to tell the phone to boot.
You can get to fastboot holding down the trackpad while powering on, or it might be the first option in hboot.
From your computer, run 'fastboot oem boot' to get the phone to boot,
otherwise if you have eng hboot you can use 'fastboot boot boot.img' to boot a rom (kernel) or recovery.

im having the exact same problem... just wondering if you found a way to solve it...

That's no random screen. This is the Phone's bootloader menu. You can reach recovery from there, reboot your phone, update it and much else. If you come to the bootloader screen by just turning on your phone, most probably your boot image (kernel) is corrupted. If hboot can not load the boot image properly, it goes to hboot menu.

FASTBOOT is a special connection mode. Via fastboot (an application for windows/linux/mac) you can issue bootloader commands to your phone.
RECOVERY brings you to a recovery OS. Since you probably did not root your phone or unlock bootloader you have a standard recovery, which is not very helpful.
CLEAR STORAGE is a factory reset option. If you already tried this option all your userdata is probably gone by that time. So you need to restore all your contacts, messages etc. yourself.
Okay, how can you revive your phone?
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445 and choose a proper RUU for your phone.
Then turn on your phone, bring it to fastboot mode.
Execute the RUU tool and follow the instructions. These are official RUUs so no warranty loss.
if that does not help, there's two ways left. send the phone back for warranty, or unlock bootloader and flash a new firmware yourself.
I'll start at the beginning, Yesterday i knocked my phone into the shower, the water wasn't running but the phone got wet, I was playing music on it at the time and the volume went all muffled, i took the back off and there was only a tiny bit of water in there so i dried it and put it back together and used it, all seemed fine except it kept bringing up the screen as if i was holding the power button which brings the menu button. Now it wont turn on unless its not on charge and that is when that menu comes up, I can scroll down the options but can't click on them.
(The menu came up after my battery had died, and i put it on and charged it and that came up when i turned it on)
pleeease help
