Need Help from a Dev willing to give a few lessons. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking to port over the MIUI top battery bar to work with AOSP Roms. There is discussion of this from earlier, but no one got anywhere with it. So I would like to take on the task myself. The only problem.....I have no idea where to start. If I could get a dev to work with me a bit give me an idea of how to go about it. I am familiar with ADB, and I'm not completely retarded with computers. Jest need a friendly dev to point me in the right direction.
If someone is willing to help I'm willing to put in the leg work, and learn.
Please PM me on here or Gtalk: bryanjackson9

I want to help/contibute. But how?

Hey everyone.
I've been coming here for a while now. And all I seem to do is congratulate developers on their work and leech ROMs/freeware.
I DONT WANT TO DO THIS!
I want to help/contribute to the site. But don't know how. I know I can donate, but when you don't have a job and need every penny that comes your way, what can you do?
I've thought of cooking ROMs, but don't know where to start.
The only other thing I can think of is offering my services beta testing.
Any idea on what I can do to help all you AMAZING developers become even more amazing?
Add me on MSN.
Lets get something going!

One worthwhile way to help/contribute is by helping newbies -- at least pointing them towards the answer...and that means doing more than just saying "SEARCH!"
Think you're just a newbie yourself? There's always somebody who knows less than you. (See what the Administrator says in the Announcements in Rule #10 )
I know what you mean. There's always articles or guides that could be updated or created on the XDA wiki. Otherwise like MCbrian said just answering questions so the pros can stay on task is always good.

[Q] Tutor neeeded!

I have been working on learning to develop and give back to the community. I am currently working on a speedy port. It is my first attempt at a rom and could use some guidance. I don't want anyone to do it for me. Just to explain some things and point me in the right direction. Any dev's willing to help, I would be grateful.
It really isn't something we can just "tutor" you in a thread. You need to have a lot of programming background. Perhaps you should start by taking a few classes or reading a few books on the subject.

Thanks for the helpful posts. I have been working on different aspects of development for a while now. I have my port booting and usable for the most part. I need help figuring out what is wrong with it so I can start fixing it. I feel that there probably isn't that much wrong with it but I am not 100% sure. Also need to learn smali. Other than that, I am fairly knowledgeable in Linux in general.

Phone for devs to work on S-off/Unlock

I'd like to offer my phone to the dev community to be used to achieve unlock/s-off.
If the person is jcase or a similarly well known dev for providing such things I'll be willing to let them borrow it for the project, otherwise I'll be willing to setup a remote connection on an extra computer I have for them to work with.
Devs PM me for contact information if you are interested.
jcase I know you have said you aren't interested, but if you can pass around the word in your circles I would appreciate it.

I think we should try and reach out to the Unlimited.Io team with this phone, and see if they are willing to help. Also you understand that doing this you risk bricking your phone and it is dead. you can have it back but it's a paperweight.
also some teams are only willing to work with certain ppl, if that is the case would u be willing to send it to that person to do the testing?
otherwise this is a great offer but if you expect to have the DEVs get S-OFF and your phone back 100% working, your dreaming, it's possible, but unlikely.
also if it does brick, there goes anymore testing.
but I'm sure they will have learned a lot from the brick.

Jcase has an Verizon HTC One now (Not really doing much with it but has one)... he got it last week on Tuesday or something like that.. Have faith in the community! Unlimited.IO is an interesting suggestion though I'd have to say. I wouldn't mind forking over cash to them and whatever else would be needed!

Yea I have no idea if they want to help or have the time, but I worked with them with the Rezound and Inc4, so it's worth reaching out to them if we have this phone to test with.
FWIW I don't know why you posted that Jcase has the phone..
He specifically didn't want people knowing he has the phone because he does have a live ya know, and it doesn't revolve around unlocking phones TBH I don't even think he likes, or uses (I could be wrong).
IMHO, posting something like that is just proving why he isn't helping us, or has no want to.
Or maybe he is and he just doesn't want to get hounded about is he close, does he think he can get it, is he even working on it.
I am going to remove the quote from this post and I hope you will edit yours.
If I can get a response from a member on Unlimited.Io - one of the best teams out there, and some of the nicest people you can work with, it was a pleasure the times I spent with them. (I tried when the phone first came out, but maybe he hasn't signed on yet, so I tired another member tonight), I am not too sure how much money is a factor with them, but maybe if we get support from them, it will help re-assure people and up the bounty.

[Q] S7560m Slimkat

I know its kind of extreme to make an entire thread dedicated to this, but Im at my wits end. I've been searching high and low for god knows how long looking for a download link for the Ace IIx/ Trend port of Slimrom and I can't find it anywhere. The closest I've come is a few posts by a brake that seem like at me point and time they contained a download link. Could someone please point me in the right direction or barring that give me cause to give up? I'm sincerely hoping for success in finding it, thanks for your time and hopefully help.

Is there anything left for development?

If someone has been here since the beginning I'd love to hear it all. xda-developers paint such a beautiful picture of the entire story.
Right now it sounds like I'm in a playground with all of the information I'd ever need. This thing came out in 2013, it's cracked open, exposed, fully handled. and it's cheap (now) encouraging development to the fullest extent.. I want to try my hand at something, troubleshooting, maybe porting a ROM, just something to get toes wet. I'm a 18 year old certified web developer, But I want to try this, it seems so cooool! lol. and If someone wants be kind enough to push me in the right direction, and maybe be a friend I can reach out to if I need it, that'd make my day! right now i'll be rooting it, I just laid my hands on it.
I like your idea! That's the way it goes. I would love to give you tips but I'm not into programming. But I want you to go on just like this, learn stuff yourself, make stuff yourself! Most people ask others to create them stuff and that sucks soo much.
Only thing I can tell you is that gr8nole is the best dev on this device imo, if he would teach you, you could learn the most.
Best wishes'n'goood luck m8
What tab 3 device do you have?
