Introducing the dumbest evo question of the week

Ok so we all see dumb questions out there so I decided to start a thread where we can have fun enjoying dumb questions. Submit your dumb questions and I will set up a poll with five of them based on your responses and we will vote and name the dumbest question or dumbest question asker of the week hopefully we get lots of you all involved even the people nominated its here for fun even new comers can see what not to ask and participate maybe we will get a sticky never no so be prepared for some laughs and a good time if some one wants to get involved in this like setting up a poll or anything they feel would help pm me or post

i have both a stujpid question and equally stupid reply, i was walking out of the sprint store when this one girl asked the girl who was first to get the evo (who by the way started the line at 3am and who was screaming i got the first one) is that the new apple evo and the girl said uh no its htc they are run by hp you know the computer company the have better 3g its new its called 4g and its like faster or something, i walked to the car as fast as i could so that i wouldnt laugh at either of them

i agree if they start linking to posts, that will discourage people from asking their questions.
If someone posts something thats been asked a million times, either ignore them, link them to the proper post, or give them the terms to search to help them out a bit. I'm not asking you to hold their hand and do the work for them, just pitch in a bit.
This community welcomes all and it would be great if xda-dev doesn't turn into another fanboy forum.
But the way this thread is going, with funny stories overheard or experienced with retail employees, i see no issue with that.
Lets not start to single people out and embarrass our fellow members.

I was glancing at some phones while walking past the T-Mobile kiosk in the mall today:
Employee: "Hey wanna sign up with T-Mobile and get a new phone today?"
Me: "Nah, no thanks just looking."
Employee: "Who's your carrier now?"
Me: "Sprint."
Employee: "Oh man you need to switch over, that's not good, leave them. We have discounts on your first month's bill and the next month and it continues."
Me: "Nah, I just recently got an Evo (pulled out the phone)."
Employee: "Oh...oh...Well we had it first you know?"
Me: "Yeah except it's missing a front camera."
Employee: "Man nobody cares about that."
Me: "Well I do. And the HD2 also runs Windows Mobile...."
Employee: "Yeah....."
And that was the end of that sales pitch lol.

Whilst we do not want to stifle what could be an intellectual discussion, we have to be careful in that individuals are not pointed at, singled out or made fun.
This is most definitely NOT in the spirit of XDA and i am not convinced that this thread wont head down that slippery slope.
The very title of the thread suggests to me that in pointing out a "dumb question" will inevitably result in the individual being mocked, which is a clear violation of XDA rules.
It is for this reason that i am closing this thread, if you disagree at all or would like to pm me please feel free.

Why do some people post their entire EVO Software Information on their signatures? I mean, what do we care about what PRL or PRI version someone is running? lol It's just like those that post their Speedtest.net results in their signatures as well. hahaha

Maybe for a similar reason as to why people post pics of their cars in their sigs...
I put my tethered speed test in my sig today, never have done it before.
And I used to be one who put the basics about my phone in my sig (phone, rom, kernel) but that changes so often it's just a pain in the neck to keep up with.

The same thing could be said for pretty much anything anyone puts in their signatures. Why bother have a witty quote? Or a picture of your favorite car or dog or sports team?
Well, actually the software version information might actually be helpful to give context's to a user's post. For instance, if someone is giving me advice on which ROM to install on my EVO, and according to their signature they are still using a Mogul-- I think I might take their advice slightly less seriously.

LOL Yea, I agree

I don't really get the point that much here either because the amount of variation is not that great. On car forums I've been on it's helpful because there can be so many variables at play in diagnosing a problem or someone may want to ask you for your opinion on some aftermarket product you're using. To each their own but it does seem e-penis-like here.

Actually....it can be helpfull as far as the specs in the sig.....when I was trying to root and upgrade my phone it was helpfull to see what others had.

Are the results from the "Speed Test" application valid? Someone mentioned here one time that basing your connection speed, off of what you read, was not a good idea

Hmm, just got back into town and see the bashing continues. Reef, did you actually download and examine my file to come to this conclusion? I've been running Xdandroid for 3 months. I don't remember when I updated to 2.2..I believe it was July. All of my IPhone Geekers are asking me how to Jailbreak there devices(I haven't got a clue and don't plan on it). It is great work here and I am excited, looking forward to continuos great work. Positive injection..

Good. We are all disgusted when people steal things and try to claim them as their own.
Maybe if you said where it came from, how you put it together, or highlighted HOW it's different from other builds that are already posted, we would be MUCH more receptive... But from your first post, it just looks like you stole it and tried to pass it off as something you built. That is just shameful, and will NOT be tolerated on this forum.

I didnt see any claim of ownership, unless the post was edited.
A history of the files and such of course would be helpful. And credit given to those who actually created the files is a no-brainer.
But still, I know XDA is the "big leagues", but cant we be a bit nicer? For all we know, this guy could be the next big thing. Just saying...

he edited his first post saying that he has a working froyo he never said it was his but it looked like it since he hasn't given any credit to whomever that build belongs to

in the OP he said it was not reef's build. He's not taking credit, but he's not giving it either, which is probably what bothered most of the people in this thread.

But, I will soon be retiring my TP2. I'm sure she will retire and move to the Bahamas. And, I'm sure ya'll will just be asking yourselves, 'who is this ya-hoo?'. But I feel better to myself for letting the word out that I am switching HTC phones very shortly. It will be a day of mourning, but it will all be a day of happyness!

If you know this has nothing to do with the S3, but rather the HTC One V, post it in it's proper place.
Your review is very subjective. When talk about speed, you say it's slow, but slow compared to what? Use numbers, benchmarks would help, especially 3 month from now, when a new generation of phones come out.
your review also focuses on the superficial. I know you are a teenager, because you say it, but don't make your review sound like a 12 year old boy who only cares about how "cool" something looks. What about battery life? How loud the phone is? Reception? Storage size? All those would play in to how a phone can be "used".

But I do agree that this is in the wrong place and should be in at the very least an HTC One variant forum. I understand why you put it here (being that you are an SGS3 user-probably should have put that in your OP) and are just wanting peer review. Best place to get peer review on a product is probably that product's forum.
I'm not the Mod for this section but you can request the thread moved, otherwise you might get more of the same responses.

I get it, it is very difficult for one with your intelligence to realize that when you review a htc one v device that should be posted on the htc one v forum and not on the samsung galaxy s3 forum...huh not sure, maybe these two names sound very similar to you probably

Yes, you can make this review a lot better by writing something about the phone. IMO even temple run does not run on the stock rom. Also, sense is much better than touchwiz.

I think touchwiz is just **** and samsung would do themselves a favour by using stock.

Not sure what to make of this mess. His review is about the One V. This is the One V forum, and the thread is posted in the One V general sub-forum, so unless this was already moved I don't see what the problem is. Also, this goes to everyone: If you see a violation or mis-post, just quietly report it and carry on. Confronting the other person only starts a flame war, and puts you in the hot seat, which could lead to consequences. TBH, I thought the way some of you treated the OP was absurd. He is only looking for feedback, not to be berated in front of other members.
Flaming another member for violating the rules, is a violation in and of itself. Please refrain from flamatory or disruptive behavior towards other members. Those found participating in this type of behavior will be dealt with.
