AlphaRev X ...a ray of light for wildfire with 2.2.1 with s-ON - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

AlphaRev X Coming Soon!
AlphaRev X, the only tool to allow you to turn security off on your bootloader, has recently tested 25 HTC devices from members of the public.
This is great news for Wildfire users, especially for the ones who updated to 2.2.1 OTA and then found out that HTC had locked down their bootloaders.
The current method of rooting the Wildfire was patched in the OTA update, as HTC turned security on on their customers bootloaders, this caused many HTC users and developers frustration, but overall, it just encouraged the devs to work harder. When security is turned off it is possible to root the Wildfire.
No release date has been announced, but the Alpha Rev X team announced on twitter that the beta would be released fully to the public “soon”.
Out of the 25 devices tested, not even one was bricked.

What you posted is something we already know...

There's at least 3 other threads saying this that have been going for a while.

Many others also tested here and got patched hboot without breaking.

I tested alpharevx and work succefull!!! And i have installed JokersDroid!

[Q] How do one update an Android device?

I have a Desire HD with 2.2, and im assuming 2.3 will be released for it some time (does anyone know when?) - Thing is I dont know how updates work on Android (first smartphone). I've only had experience with iPod Touch where as it updated via iTunes.
Do I manually have to update with a 2.3 rom or is a program gonna do it for me? Also, when going from 2.2 to 2.3, will it wipe my phone clean, removing all apps.?
Android 2.3 will not be around soon...
and the updates can either be installed via htc.com or if the updates are released as over the air (OTA) update, your phone will notify you when there is an update. You just have to press update when you see the notification on your phone. You can manually check for updates via Menu ---> Settings ---> About phone ----> system software updates.
An update is likely to remove your contacts etc. But that is yet to see. HTC will mention if the update will erase your data or not.
But 2.3 is on Nexus S and many more already, how long are they gonna wait before letting other devices get it? Im not an Apple-fanboy, but I like it how they let all their devices get the latest update, and not just the newest ones.
Unfortuneately its not as simple as that.....google may release the latest update but each phone is different and cannot use the single one update that has been released....for example if you have a desire hd then you will have to wait for htc to modify the update to include sense ....or if you have a xperia then you will have to wait for Sony ericcson to modify it to include mediascape and timescape.......where as apple control their own Operating system and devices on which it is released on as such they dont need to implement other third party phone manufactures modifications to their update....hope this helps...
Feel free to correct me if im wrong

I didn't even think of the fact that each manufacturer has their own customized android-system. Suddenly open-source makes more sense . In my head I was waiting for Google to release it, not HTC . Does any HTC devices officially have 2.3 yet? (Not hacked/pirated download) Cause then at least that'd be a sign of it coming - hopefully - soon.
Sounds like you shouldn't mess with the phone, like rooting it and get 2.3 now, I say wait it out til htc release an ota update to 2.4, I'm guessing at least 2 or 3 months from now.

Havent had plans for it either. Rooting and customROMs is just too technical for me, and I fancy the stock rom alot (first smart phone... I'd be happy with any ROM )
2.4? Then I guess it would only make sense for HTC to skip 2.3 (well... or at least if 2.4 is coming in April!)
Thanks for the stuff, guys! Gonna wait out for 2.4!!!

By the time Gingerbread is out for this Phone, it will be Snowing at your place.
Meant, HTC plans for Gingerbread is not so likely, if so do happen, likely around in 6 month or so. By that time Desire HD2 is out already with Duo Core and 3.2 MP Frontal Camera / 10 MP Rear Camera w/ Dual Flash.
Just read the Bible on Rooting, aint so hard, had a 2nd grader done it on my extra phones. Once Rooted and Custom ROM, you will LOVE all the Extra Speed and Bumps the Factory RUU had all this time.

[Q] Can HTCsense.com unroot your phone?

I recently bought a DHD - wich I immediatly rooted - and I was going to subscribe the HTCsense.com service because I want to try the car panel*.
I red the terms and conditions of the service, but I didn't subscribe the service for the content of the article 10:
10. HTC Content; Proprietary Rights; License; Updates.
[...] HTC may from time to time send you updates to the Software which may be automatically downloaded and installed to your device. [...] You hereby agree that HTC may automatically deliver these updates to you and you will receive and install them on your device as required.
Could that mean that by subscribing this service you can be forced, willing or not (automatically downloaded and installed), to install HTC updates (with the obvious risk of losing root privileges)?
What do you think?
Thanks for your opinions
*My bad, to use the car panel it's not necessary to subscribe to htcsense.com, but i'm still curious about your opinions

sense.com cannot remove your superusser permission
and the updates are not for the rom concretly... are for the sense files and "sense.com privileges"
but i know that subscribe to sense hub... Literally the battery is drunk at a few hours...
is this that you are answering concretly?
I see your point. You're basically sayin that the HTCsense.com updates are solely intended as updates of just the apps/programs related to that service.
But I was wondering if the updates listed in the agreement could be more like an OTA ROM mandatory update wich could result to be more difficult or impossibile to root (I previously had a wildfire and I was so stupid to make the OTA update wich at the moment is rootable only with the goldcard).
Thus the risk to lose the SU privileges.
P.s. I have been in valencia in march for the fallas, I like your city a lot.

you has a WEE STOCK OFFICIAL RUU???? or a custom rom?
if you have a custom rom án oficial OTA it´s not going...
but if you have an stock rom you can decide if accept or not... all android versions for desire hd can be rooted but it´s more difficult when you upgrade....
i recommend to you for not lost superuser permissionss (root acces) that flash a custom rooted rom (froyo, gingerbread... judge by yourself)
if yo don´t want to update REJECT THE UPDATE VIA OTA simply.
htc sense actuallizations are unable to change your android version its diferent than update the ROM.
PD:Great election go here to see THE FALLAS mate!! see my profile photo, i´m dressed of "fallero" with my wife!! LOLOLOL

That answer my question.
Anyway, for completeness' sake, I'm currently running an ARHD ROM and - with my previous experience with wildfire - I would never accept again an OTA update .
Thank you

AlphareX in Public beta Linux only get those S-ONN's OFF

*** LIMITED PUBLIC BETA ***
This is a limited public beta to begin testing for stability and lack of brick creation.
If you would like to participate in this early and extremely risky round of testing
please download the applicable binary for your operating system and join irc.freenode.net/#alpharevx
to request a beta key for your device.
Please note that this beta-round could be withdrawn at any moment if safety concerns arise (e.g. bricks).
The beta key mechanism is there to protect users from bricking their devices if there are bugs present.
http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/
I'd love to do this.....but you've shut the limited public beta according to the site
Am I right in thinking this is a potential software S-On to S-Off?
Yes this would make your phone S-off.
I would have tested but I have made my phone S-off using my XTC clip so I don't think I can help.
I'm also interest in S-off my wildfire S. Is this method safe? will be available soon a final release of AlphareX?
Open beta is now available but there is no support for Wildfire S yet...
Anyone know when will there be?

Perhaps you're better off asking it directly on irc.freenode.net/#alpharevx
Working on Wildfire S?
Hi!
Can someone confirm that this is working on Wildfire S and what should it choose at the page when asking for device to get a code? Wildfire?
Just been on there IRC and it does not currently work. Only option is XTC clip.
I've got the dreadful feeling that it's gonna take a while before the HTC Marvel will be supported by either alpharevx or cyanogenmod.
I've been reading up on porting cyanogenmod to an unsupported device, and it seems like an awful lot of work. So unless I'm missing something, there's not much you're missing in the custom rom department while your phone is not yet s-off/rooted...
I am happy for having the ability to use rooted apps. I have no experience in creating ROMS and I'm not desperate to have cyanogemod or another custom rom.
Just being curious here, but what apps would that be? I so far haven't come across any that need root, so I might not be using my device to its fullest potential
Titanium backup, root explorer for free tap tap revenge songs
And there was more but I would need to download them again as I had them all on my old Wildfire.

[Q] Can I Upgrade from deafult Rom?

Im sorry if im being Dumb here.
I of course wish to upgrade my HTC Desire (info below) to the most latest version of android possible.
Im googleing the issue, but (androidcommunity dot com) said that it broke camera and other functions.
Since T-Mobile UK / HTC wont upgrade the phone any more. Is their any WORKING rom I can upgrade to?
Id prefer a default or fully functioning ROM, as I do use it for work. It'd me much appreciated if you can point me in the right direction.
Phone: HTC Desire
Network: T-Mobile UK
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27

You can root your phone using unrevoked, partition your sd card using gparted and flash any rom you want to. Follow this guide, its very helpful to new users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Then search in Desire Android Development for a rom that suits your needs. They pretty much all have working camera etc so don't worry about that.

By the way using the search feature would have found that for you. Always search before posting a thread.

the noob-proof guide really helps, just follow the instructions carefully and you will be fine...i used it and now i am running coolexe's aces v3 which is great and stable! good luck.
wow, I know that guide is noob proof but it not very simple, with having to change drivers and even burning ISO's.
I thought android was more open than iOS - yet on apple theirs software that does it within a few clicks.
I appreciate it nether the less, will try it tomorrow - sounds like it will need my full attention.
you don't have to burn any iso's. you can go to alpharev.nl instead and use fastboot commander to flash the hboot for the rom (depends on which rom and what hboot it needs. if you already s-off'd your device and your hboot was upgraded you can use the downgrade package on alpharev and then upgrade again to whatever you like).
Or if u want something very stable and without bugs you could just root with unrevoked (very easy just a few clicks with the mouse) and then flash an aosp rom like oxygen so u don't have to use Gparted and iso stuff!!! Think about it
Changing drivers and burning iso is simple, if you follow the guide its about as ready as it gets.. Even for first time users. If you can read you can do it.
PS.. Its neither apple or Android software that unlocks the phones, its developers etc that provide the software that uses cracks in the security features of the handsets to unlock.
PPS.. Android is more open than apple, as in Android is completely open source and apple is completely closed source. It has nothing to do with the ability to unlock the handsets. Its all about Android sharing the code freely.

No Official CM9

Hey everyone! CyanogenMod announced yesterday that we will not ever get official CM9. While many assumed this, some still held hope. However, it is not just our device that won't get it. All 1st Generation Snapdragon devices will not be received official CM9 (this included the MSM7227, the processor in the Wildfire S).

Right, but we'll never have official CM9, but alas, "official" is solely a title.
Makes sense. Can't really have official support for our device when many of the key requirements for making CM9 fully compatible are unavailable. We are likely never going to get the OMX drivers needed to make the camera (and a bunch of other apps) work properly and make the HD youtube streaming possible.
