To create a Goldcard is the same for all Android phones:
http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/
Right now it is not possible root the phone.

Incorrect, you can root the phone with GingerBreak - after unlocking the bootloader. And unlocking the bootloader can be done with an XTC (Payg) Clip.

Your tutorial sucks a little bit. You can do it with RUU exe file (which are available as in our forum). No need to have img. So you just click "next", instead of renaming etc.
But thank you for your afford!

Didn't quite try the above method first time around. Created the Gold Card using Gold Card Helper on a spare 8Gb SD card.
Then I used the official European RUU and it spat out an Error [140]: Bootloader Error. HBOOT is 0.90.0000
Then decided to try using the above zip file and lo and behold it does actually work.
Does this mean we may be able to trick the phone into flashing a non HTC firmware onto the device even if we haven't S-Offed or flashed a custom Recovery?

I've tried to flash HTC_Europe_1.33.401.2 but Orange rom version is 1.36.73.3 (mine is FR, don't know if the same for UK), hboot detect the update but fails to load it :'(

Hi,
I have the following problem:
after getting in bootmode (vol down + power), the phone loads the PG76IMG.zip correctly and then starts checking it. It also passes the CID check (goldcard). At around 99% it says "update failed - Main version is older - press power to ....
I'm trying to get from a English/HongKong 1.35 ROM to the most recent version of an European ROM (1.33)...
Any ideas?

it says main version is older what can i do?

Carphone warehouse 2.1-Eclair (Desire)

Hi
Im looking for the offical ROM that came with my desire from carphone ware house 2.1-Eclair unlocked. I would like to downgrade from 2.2.
I was looking at this link but i dont know which one to pick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Can someone please help ASAP
Thanks
I am 75% sure that it is the first one in the list under GSM. I have no way to be sure though. I think that was what was in mine.
Out of curiosity, why do you want to downgrade?
Sent from my Amiga 500 using Workbench
If you're not rooted, or even if you are, just flash a 2.2 ruu seeing as its been rolled out to a majority of Desires.
Sent from my HTC Desire
if you flashed the ota then you must downgrade your hboot version before you can flash any of the 2.1 ruu's, they will just fail otherwise

I am 75% sure it is the first one, however, it doesn't matter if it is the same one that was on the phone in the first place, it can be any of the official updates HTC have released.
You are free to install any released software from HTC (as long as it is not rooted) and your warranty will be intact.
Thank you for your fast reply StuMcBill
Now that i have downloaded that ROM. Is there a easy easy way by PC to unroot it back?

Does your phone turn on? If so, you just boot your phone to Android, plug it to your computer, and run the downloaded file.
If you can't get to Android, try going into fastboot.
I am NOT 100% sure that it is that rom that originally came on the device, but I dont think it should matter, as long as it is not rooted.
In what way is your phone not working?
The speaker stopped working.
Its that easy to unroot it? Yes the phone does turn on

If your desire was unbranded from carphone warehouse you don't need a gold card.

Moved to Q&A as not development.
If you're on HBOOT 0.80 then you'll need to flash the 1.21.405.2 RUU, that'll get you back to stock 2.1...then you'll get the prompts for the 2.2 OTA so ignore them or allow them, you can always go back under warranty on a stock ROM

You have to decide which method to use to flash the downgrader. Eather you download the PB99IMG.zip file and put it to your SDCARD root and boot the phone into hboot or you flash the bravo_downgrade.img file using a PC (via fastboot utility).
If you decide to flash via fastboot then check that MD5 sum of the downloaded .img file matches that specified in the alpharev's site.
I think that's easier to put PB99IMG.zip on root and to do that only with phone... So ill do it that way..
Then what?
I start RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe on computer?

Do you want to start update?
yes
no
I press yes then says bootloader - OK
Do you want to reboot device?
yes
And thats it? Am i doing it right? What now, to start on computer RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe ???
Yes, that's it. After rebooting, put your phone into fastboot mode, connect it to computer via USB and run the downloaded RUU.exe on your computer.
I have succeeded to get back factory settings.
I was hoping that camera will be back to normal, but problem stays.
I flashed same ROM that was on my phone.
Then i tried to flahs older ROM RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.0 0.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.
But it says error 104 cannot update , something like that.. How to pass that?
Will flashing older ROM maybe repair my camera?
Try 2.3.3 RUU from HTC Developer Center:
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Thanks for helping..
If I update to 2.3.3 (and problem with camera disappear, and dont need to get warranty) can i root my phone after , i've read on net that its difficult to do that?
Or can i easily downgrade to 2.2 and then root?
After flashing 2.3.3 RUU you can get S-OFF and root for Gingerbread in two very easy steps thanks to revolutionary:
http://revolutionary.io
But read documentary very careful before doing anything!
I flash it to 2.3.3 and problem with camera stays...
After i done upgrade i realesed that SIM-Unlock Utility http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726 wont work on 2.3.3 gingerbread...
arghh...
I didn't wont to unlock it when was on 2.2. Before i take phone to official service to check camera, and see if it's fixable. Because unlocking possibile will break my warranty..
So is there any way to downgrade it to 2.2 again, and perform unlock after phone goes to official service... or maybe will unlock simply work on 2.3.3 when i try later
You can try one of 2.2. RUU and start over again.

[TUTORIAL][S-ON] Unlock Bootloader using HTCDEV.com

Hello,
for every new one out there I decided to write a little tutorial and explain the steps needed to unlock the WFS bootloader.
This process is made of 3 steps
1. Update HBOOT to support generating device tokens
2. Getting unlocking key from HTC-Dev
3. Unlock bootloader
PLEASE DO A FULL PHONE BACKUP, DURING THIS PROCESS A L L DATA WILL BE ERASED, FULL WIPE, FACTORY RESET
STEP 1 - Update HBOOT to support generating device tokens
* Go to http://htcdev.com/
* Click "unlock bootloader" and then "get started"
* On the right, chose HTC Wildfire S from the dropdown
* Click begin unlock bootloader
* Login, or register first, then login
* Confirm the 2 nasty boxes and agree all stuff
* Scroll down, choose your phone version, download RUU
* Run RUU.exe and flash new HBOOT
* Click proceed
* Remove battery, re-insert, boot into bootloader (Power + Vol-)
* Click proceed
* get those 3 files: adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, fastboot.exe, read how to get them if you do not have them
* open a terminal as it is done on the site
* enter the command: fastboot oem get_identifier_token
* Copy the identifier token and
* paste it at the bottom of the page
* submit
STEP 2 + 3: Getting unlocking key from HTC-Dev
* check your e-mails, click on the link in it
* download attachment
* in the terminal execute: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
* with Vol +/- choose to confirm or abort unlocking
* press power to apply
NOW THE DEVICE WILL BE FACTORY RESET AND REBOOT
Check your HBOOT, first line should show "UNLOCKED", if you did all right.
OPTIONAL STEP: Re-Lock bootloader
execute command: fastboot oem lock
Please read below how to root your WFS now:

Apparently it requires 2.3.5 (I still have 2.3.3). I got the same message as makhongmat above:

I think you need to bring that up with them. If we knew them that well we'd already have S-OFF!

I have the same issue. I do know that my model is a A510B although the Rom version lists it as an A510E. Furthermore I have upgraded with to the euro rom while I bought it in Laos ( but Thai model ).
Anyone know how to look up those PG model numbers?
UPDATE: I saw it already: I have model number PG76120 (under the battery. I think I will try to change to Thai rom first and then see if I can upgrade hboot.

You mean to say that you've upgraded to 2.3.5 via the EU ROM and still get the "ERROR [191]: ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED"???

Let me know how it goes for you after that Thai ROM is installed. I'm in a similar boat. I bought my phone in Cambodia but think its from the Singaporean market. And I get the 191 error code. BTW, it's model number is PG76100.

I Googled the two part numbers (PG76120 PG76100) and found this interesting statement:

Seen at the FCC under the code "PG76110", the AT&T variant joins it's siblings the "PG76100" (European, with 2100/900WCDMA) and "PG76120" (Canadian?) models.

So then why doesn't the EU ROM work?
EDIT:
BTW, it's interesting that the three of us (including makhongmat) are all in SE Asia - you in Laos, makhongmat in Vietnam and myself in Cambodia.
Update:
I got through the HBOOT update using the tip at [HBOOT] HBOOT update for EU users who's having problem with RUU. It worked like a charm, though I'd recommend that you phone's part number is the same as the generic European A510e: PG76100. Otherwise you might need to flash a different ROM from the list.
H-Boot Update error :/
Hello!
I have a HTC Wildfire S A510e (GSM)/T-Mobile Hungary/. I would like to upgrade to h-boot. My hboot version 0.90. The HTC-dev-en downloaded the appropriate software(HTC EU 2.13.401.2 PG7610000), but I can not install it.
My mobile version: PG76100
Software version: 2.13.401.2
Android version: 2.3.5
Service: T-Mobile - Hungary
The next problem would be the problem, start the installer you downloaded, and I get this error during the upgrade /PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.08.0099_20111216.exe/:
ERROR[191]: ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED

Please help me. Already tried all sorts of descriptions none succeeded. :/
Sorry for the bad english.
Thank you in advance.

How to unlock hboot or S-OFF my branded WFS ?

Hi there !
I would like to S-OFF or unlock bootloader of my Orange FR branded WFS. HTCdevs method does note seem to work, ROM or bootloader is too wreid and not supported by official orange hboot updater from htcdevs. After some tricks (goldcard I guess), I succeed in installing "Europe hboot" from htcdevs, but it doesn't help in any way : fastboot oem command returns an error 1, command error . Hboot might be too old to know these commands.
By searching on XDA, I found a tool called temproot that allows me to root the phone until I reboot it.
my HBoot version is 0.90.0000 and radio 7.53.39.03M.
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL.
HTC drivers, andro SDK, Java, debuging mode,... are probably ok. I use Windows 7x64 and Linux Mint.
I think I said everything. If you want more details or explainations, I'll do my best to answer preciselly, even if I'm a noob .
Thanks !

The unlockable European HBOOT is version 1.08.0099, so I take this to mean that you successfully updated to a generic EU HBOOT (0.90.0000) which is not unlockable, but can be updated to 1.08.0099. Thus,

So you need to go back to htcdev and update your HBOOT to the unlockable one. When you do, HBOOT will show:
*** LOCKED (OOW) ***
H-BOOT-1.08.0099

Thanks for (very) fast answer and making me realize that I successfuly downgraded my HBoot (that's what I was searching to do).
I believed that it should allow me to upgrade with unlockable HBoot too, but I forgot to say that when I try to update HBOOT the way htcdev tells using their HTC_EU-1.09.0099 / ORANGE_FR-1.09.0099 / Any 1.08.0099 HBoot, I get an error 191, my ROM is NOT up to date. I have no ROM update possible with my f****** provider custom ROM. Is it possible to change this ROM to the official HTC ROM (using my temp rooting and adb shell or I don't know what), so that I can get last updates, flash HBoot with HTC_EU-1.09.0099 and get custom ROM (such as CM7.2) ?
Or I am thinking wrong on the way it works (probably the case : I learned everything alone) ?
Edit : I believe that this would have worked, if the given link weren't dead.......... Uploading website are all closed. That's a shame.
Thank you,
KennyG9
Try this:
1. Run the RUU...exe for updating the HBOOT again but don't try to update. Instead, find the temporary folder it created to extract the files needed for the install. It will look something like C:\Users\[LoginName]\AppData\Local\Temp\{82B23FCD-D5D0-45CA-A3A2-5350D3926551}.
2. In one of the subfolders, find rom_02.zip from and copy it to another location on your hard drive. Rename it PG76IMG.zip. You can close the RUU wizard now.
3. Move PG76IMG.zip to the root folder of your Goldcard.
4. Boot the phone into HBOOT (turn it off, pull the battery for 5 sec. and replace it, hold down volume and press the power button). Once in HBOOT, the phone will find PG76IMG.zip and try to install it. Follow the directions on the screen.
5. Do a factory reset and reboot.

It worked finally . You're so beautiful !
For interested people, you can get rom_01.zip and rom_02.zip. It corresponds to PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.09.0099_0209_R.exe file. (Orange FR 2.14.73.1 PG7610000)
Thank you very very much.

software s-off????
After spending 3 days trying to upgrade my hboot so i could unlock my bootloader, i somehow ended up with s-off! here are the steps i followed.
1) try updates from htcdev - didnt work
2) made goldcard, tried updates - didnt work
3) gained temp root using adb and zergrush, worked
4) hex edited the rom version number - didnt work
5) placed rom_2 on sd card - worked, sort of, updated the radio, but not the bootloader, "cannot rollback hboot"
6) placed rom_1 on sd card -worked, updated the radio
7) went into hboot to try to flash rom_2 again, voila! s-off!!!!
dont ask me if this is a way to s-off devices without xtc clip, all i know is it is what has worked for me, so i thought i would share.

I dont have any clockwork or other recovery installed. Factory reset doesn't do anything either
What do i do to get it working?
Maybe try to flash recovery like the radio. Put my file to /sdcard and flash how you know, volume'-' + power button to get bootloader, etc...
If recovery flashed successful, change the name of image file in sdcard, again turn on to bootloader and choose recovery boot.

As you are S-ON, you won't be able to flash a RUU that is not signed for your phone. That means, that you won't be able to flash a ruu that is not exactly for your phone / carrier. Don't try to install a CWM recovery not as PD98IMG nor in fastboot...you won't succeed as u are S-ON. You have just to flash a RUU for your correct model. What carrier and CID is your phone??
To find the CID you can get it by adb shell getprop in cmd. If you need help to do that just let me know.
so how do you chek the cid with adb? i tried it and no idea

Just let me see if I can get a RUU that can work for u. Then try to update again....
If you have never rooted voda UK have a policy to replace the device if it dies in a software update, it will be a reconditioned one but may be worth calling them. Voda au may be the same, worth a try to see before you try anything more, I had another phone within 24 hours. Hope this helps.
