DealExtreme Aluminum Alloy Touchpad Stylus Review - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

Just received the two styluses’ that I ordered from Deal Extreme on July 16 and I have to say that I am very impressed with them for the price that I paid. Being only $2.40 each I decided to order 2 of them setting me back only $4.80 total with free shipping and no tax. The shipping however took exactly 2 weeks since it was shipped from Japan so if you need it in a hurry your out of luck.
Each stylus is packaged in cheap plastic with a cardboard backing that says for iPhone/iPod touch, etc.
Now the stylus itself has a solid black aluminum body with a chrome clip and chrome right above the rubber stylus part of the pen. The aluminum body feels sturdy and is just a tad bit thicker than your average pencil. I have never owned a capacitive stylus but the rubber end on this one seems to be fine with no quality issues that I can tell. It also hasn’t scratched my device which is important. As far as overall build quality goes, the only part that feels cheap is the clip that has a fake/plastic chrome look to it. The clip has worked fine for me so far when attaching it to my SGT case.
As far as performance goes, it does take a little bit of getting used to, but I’m assuming any stylus for these screens would be the same way. All the touches have registered with great accuracy from what I can tell. I was having some trouble with using Swype but I think that’s because it was on my Moto Droid. It was registering a lot better on my SGT then my Moto Droid. I do have an XO Screen protector on my SGT and it is working perfectly with this stylus as well if anyone was wondering.
Overall though, for the price, you can’t beat it! I got 2 of them for under $5 and am extremely happy with this purchase. This is my first review but I thought I would help anyone that was looking for a stylus. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

That's certainly a good deal. I went ahead and ordered one.

3 bucks, why not

I bought the same one at Walmart under the brand of targus for $14. That tells you how much they overprice everything and you're basically paying for the brand :-(
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App

When I was at best buy they tried selling me a Targus one as well, bet its the same one as Wal-Mart

I picked up the targus stylus at walmart. It doesn't seem to be very sensitive. You have to press the tip down and compress it quite a bit for it to make a reliable input. It's horrible for drawing. My finger works 5 times better. Are all capacitive styluses like this?

Did you opt for the paid package tracking when you ordered?

My stylus seems to work fine as long as I'm not charging. Odd.

Nope and I anxiously waited 2 weeks

how do thee styluses perform for hand writing?

anyone know?

Ordered a pair on the 3rd of July, I opted for the mail tracking for an extra $2 bucks. The tracking directs me to some Hong Kong Post website saying my order is still being processed for departure? I guess this is Hong Kong's version of the USPS tracking process. I don't know how good it is once it leaves Hong Kong and into the states? I wonder if the tracking # will still be good once in the states, USPS? Don't have as clue to look? I don't think I will ever order anything out of country again?

You should usually be able to use the same tracking number on usps.com as soon as it gets in their system, or at least that's how it works with China Post.

Thanks I'll keep everyone updated.

That same stylus is available for $1.78, in different colors, at Priceangels
http://www.priceangels.com/Search_Result_t.html?advancedSearch=true&searchname=4.5-inch+stylus
I have ordered from them before. Got the items delivered fine. Pretty much works like Dealextreme, except IMO it has a better design.

I have been ordering quite a bit from dealextreme.com.
So far so lost packages or defect goods, just have to wait patiently for it to arrive.
Located in Singapore though, and I think it ships from Hong Kong.
Wait time is usually 2-3 weeks from time of order.

Performance is going to be more based on the app than the stylus itself. I found navigating and typing to be fine with a stylus, but the drawing apps and lacking....for now.

I got mine yesterday and I've been playing with it a bit. It works *okay*. It's definitely not as useful as I had hoped it would be. It only works about 75-80% of the time - some touches receive no response. It seems to be pretty sensitive, if you touch it at the wrong angle or press too hard or too soft, it doesn't work. Drawing is impractical. Hand-writing notes (which I was hoping for) is not really practical due to the thick rubber end on the stylus.

Tripod?

With such good video, I'm really keen to get a tripod, or at least a tripod adapter.
Can anyone recommend something? I realize an 'official' tripod is probably not on the cards, but maybe a 'generic' model you can recommend?
Thank you!
http://joby.com/gorillamobile/original/
That's exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!
Is that confirmed working? I ask because to me the textured back on the SGSII seems like it would be a problem for a suction cup.
Anybody got a tripod solution that is working? I really need an accessory for this, and all the ones I see on Ebay and similar only work to the width of 62mm.
I know I'm pimping it everywhere at the moment, but I'm really impressed with my Breffo SpiderPodium. Would work quite well as a tripod, I'd have thought,
Thanks, to be honest I was looking at it for just that purpose last night... hmmn, could be doable.
Unfortunately the Joby model is not avail in the UK - and buying it from the US would be a 12 quid shipping fee... on something that already cost 25 quids.
So I'm back to square one...
I need this aswell, but still couldn't find a good one. If I want to buy the joby, which one should I buy? I've only seen those for iPhone. Seen the universal, but I don't think we can use it for SGS II.

It is available from various places, John Lewis being one. However, the cheapest I could find is £25 from the below link.

Sadly, no, they have various models, and this is the SLR model. The model for the SGS2 would be the mobile one with the suction cup and the two adhesive pads. While you can get a gorilla pod in the UK (amazon), the mobile kit doesn't seem to be available.
Hi everyone - I finally found that Joby Mobile in the UK. cost was only 11.99 inc delivery. I must say I took a gamble, because the site doesn't look very professional - it's http://www.7dayshop.com.
But they charged my card correctly and I received the tripod within the week, so all is well than ends well
Now the question is 'does it work' and the answer is a resounding 'yes!'. The suction cup takes time to get accustomed to but once you get the hang of it works perfectly. I'm using a rubber phone cover, so I guess this helps. If you don't have any luck with the suction cup, it also comes with adhesive pads (non marking) and finally it also comes with the standard camera attachment so you don't have to carry two tripods.
I must say for 11.99 I'm very pleased!
thanks for sharing your experience.. might get one as well

[Q] Best stylus for Xoom?

Hello
I'm using Scetchpad a lot and are now waiting for Photoshop Touch. I see the need for a stylus in the near future.
Anyone know of a good one?
(i've heard the cheap ones have to much friction and have to much resistance)

Works great...
I just ordered an Adonit Jot Pro. I'll let you know how well it works when I get it.
http://adonit.net/product/jot-pro/
I ordered a cheap set from ebay and they were ****, ends were too rubbery and marked the screen protector so be careful which ones you get.
The Adonit Jot Pro is easily the best stylus. It has a clear plastic disc on the tip (instead of a dollop of rubber), so the user can write defined points and lines. It also has good weight to it, which aids in control (better than writing with a hollow plastic).
Also, it comes in a gunmetal gray color-- which kinda matches the xoom.
It is very expensive, though. I ordered mine with fast delivery (because I was so eager to try it). My cost: $46
The Targus is pretty cheap and works great. I got mine from Best Buy.
Stylus
Rocket Fish brand is junk. I had one for about three weeks. Even though I keep the screen clean with a microfiber cloth, the tip got glingy after a while from picking up the grease from my finger tips.
I'm on a Targus now. Had it for three weeks, and it's still working well, though it's starting to get glingy as well.
Interested in hearing how the Adonit Jot Pro works out.
BTW-- Definition of Glingy. Not able to scroll anymore. When you touch the screen and slide, it just selects the first thing it comes across.
Adonit Jot
Ok. For those of you interested in the Adonit Jot....
I have looked at several reviews on youtube about it, more paying attention to the quality and accuracy of the writing, then the opinion of the reviewers. Finally decided to give it a shot. I ordered one of the Adonit Jot's last night, should be here tomorrow. I will post my opinions Saturday night.
I did the Adonit Jot instead of the Jot Pro. Its $9.99 cheaper, allowing me to use the
difference to purchase a package of replacement tips as well. I have already tried a Rocket Fish and a Targus. The Targus is best so far for daily use, for swipping and such. Basically things that don't require a high degree of accuracy. The Jot should be much finer, for writing and drawing. B
UPDATE...
Amazon dropped the ball. It didn't ship until today and won't arrive until Monday. At least I got my shipping charges refunded.... Disappointed though, as I was looking forward to playing around with it this weekend.
Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I am going to surprise the wife with the Adonit Jot Pro and see how she likes it. She wants to start getting away from using the laptop for notes and such when traveling so this should work out well. I will post how it worked once it is in hand.
I wanted a different name, and had to create a new account. Bobbydiv is no longer used. Update, the adonit arrived this morning. It's awesome so far, but only been able to play with it for a few minutes. Will post my opinions tonight.

Adonit Jot
So, as promised. The Adonit Jot is awesome. Though I'm still getting used to using it, it writes as smooth as butter. There is a little bit of getting used to just how much pressure to apply, but it doesn't take long. One thing that I did notice though. As smooth as it writes, you quickly get used to it as if your writing on paper, and start to let your hand settle like you would on a paper.
It's not a replacement for an everyday stylus. For scrolling, selecting, etc... I still recommend the Targus stylus. For writing and drawing however, I have found no equal. It truly is an amazing stylus. Check out YouTube for some user reviews and video's of people using it, and you'll quickly see.
Hmmm... I've been looking, and I'm not a huge fan of using those massive rubber tips. I was thinking something like this one.
http://ostylus.com/
Has anyone had any dealings with this one?
I just want to say that I purchased the Adonit Jot stylus and it's awesome. It gives the closest approximation to using a pen that I have experienced on a tablet, and is much more enjoyable to use than any other stylus or my fingertip for drawing. I recommend it. I didn't get the Pro version...don't see a need.
I have tried at least 6 different rubber tipped styli out there and they're all about the same. Nothing compares to the iPad Eco Stylus or Sylus Socks Pro from ShapeDad.
I'm new here so I can't post the link but just search on Google for iPad Eco Stylus Shapedad and you'll find his Esty store site.
These are handmade and I have converted seven coworkers to them. Once they tried mine they all went out and bought their own.
I would highly recommend them!

REVIEW: LG G Pad 8.3 Generic TPU "X-Style" Case

Hi everyone, I've FINALLY received this case from AliExpress:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pcs...Soft-back-case-for-LG-G-Pad-8/1532446130.html
As promised, here's a YouTube Video Review.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV0AN_YhXpw
TL;DR verdict: It's cheap, it's black, and overall it works well. Fit is solid, all ports work out (except the SD card slot, which is covered - but that's hardly a dealbreaker), and it doesn't add any significant weight. Does not interfere with the speakers.
Would buy, but not from AliExpress. No fault to the vendor (who was pleasantly responsive to my inquiries), but on eBay you can now pick it up for $6 CDN shipped.
Thanks for reading and watching!

Mine was also sourced from the States as Newegg in Canada didn't have it at the time, Best Buy here STILL doesn't, and $259 USD on sale was worth the trouble of getting it brought up here by a family member.
The Quick Remote app DOES work on my Telus cable setup. I used the AT&T option and it works just fine. I don't know if Rogers, etc. would work, but one of the options just might be an equivalent. Good luck!

Ah, so you're out East.. I don't think Vidéotron equipment is any different than those used in the States, nor would it be unique to Quebec or wherever you are. I suggest just going through the available selections and see if one works for you. That's what I did.

Telus digital cable. I'll check the make of the box, but honestly the best thing is to cycle through the available options in the Q Remote. I found AT&T compatibility within two minutes, though to be fair I went alphabetically.

Did that and found 2cable companies that worked. Weird that thistablet still has not been released in canada where lg traditionally sells well.I imagine there will need to be a Canadian version of the lg software to include Canadian cable companies. Right now there are 3versions of the firmware. A,C,E. Am guessing it's American Europe and China.

Drifting from topic, but my battery life is about the same as most reviews. I haven't put it through any rigorous testing, but when watching movies or YouTube on the unit it holds up any two hours in a row that I'd need it, I have it plugged in while at my desk at work, and standby time is awesome. I noticed the blue line, but I had to look really, REALLY hard for it so in practice it's not an issue for me. No appreciable light bleed either. I use it indoors so brightness isn't a huge issue, but for the list price it should have been brighter.
This is a keeper for me - I'm keeping this case as well and may get the IVSO in Red when it becomes available on Amazon.ca in a couple months. I miss a cover for the actual screen on this thing, but as long as I'm not outside or traveling (I *do* travel for work, so we'll see in the long run) this will do just fine.
Mark
Hey guys,
Nice review Mark! I was looking to get a silicon case quickly and this was the cheapest to do that so I got one from eBay, shipping from Germany to the UK and it's already been dispatched so should be here next week sort of time. I got it in red and will have some photos up when it arrives.
The VOIA case looks nice but, I will see how this one turns out before I get that guy, I have done the whole folding cover thing with the N7 and they never got used so I will stick with silicon this time around
Tom.
No worries Toyface! I've had the TPU case for a week now and have already taken it on a business trip with me. I find it unobtrusive and very comfortable to hold in one hand, with the grippy texture on the back. The volume and power buttons are not tougher to use at all. I've even gotten used to the fingerprints on the shiny parts. The ONLY downside is that on some of the USB plugs I've used since the video, some of them do deform the rubber on the lip a little. I doubt this will be a long term issue though, it springs right back when I unplug it.
On real-life bumps: when the tablet slid off of a chair during an airplane landing (my bad, it was sitting on my coat and fell off as the plane was braking), it landed face down and had no damage. Incidentally, my headphone jack was plugged in and while the jack was bent, the tablet was undamaged and kept working with the earphones. Point LG!
Finally, when I carry this thing around outside, I use a slipcase for an old Acer netbook. Not the most ideal shape, and I may get a more form-fitting one eventually, but it works. It's to the point where I may not get the IVSO / generic flip case after all, as this is working just fine for me.
Please post some pics of your red version when you get it!
Mark
So, my case arrived a couple of days ago. Post from Germany to England was very good and the eBay seller (phonenatic) was pretty great really.
So far,I think the case is pretty good, but I hate the color. It's supposed to be red, but in reality it's more pinkish than anything else. Cutouts are all good (as you see in the photos) and it has thick lip around the screen so landing flat shouldn't be too bad there. This one came with two screen protectors, I fitted one then removed it a day later, I just hate screen protectors. it was very easy to get on there though.
Tom.
Thanks for posting those pics! You're right, with the white version of the G Pad in there the red is muted somewhat to look more pinkish... I'm wondering if it'd look darked with a black version in there.

Fake S-Pen

I lost my s-pen recently for my SM-P600 so I ordered a replacement. It was quoted as being a EJ-PN910BWEGWW.
However what has arrived does not appear to be this.
1. No box - the picture of that part number is like this http://www.fonejoy.com/official-sam...ite-2in1-stylus-pen-inductive-pen-note-4.html (this isn't the site I ordered from) . Instead I got just the pen in a bag in an envelope. I have heard of retailers removing packaging to save delivery cost.. but read on ...
2. Pen flexes - as soon as I picked up the pen, it feels different to an official one (from memory of 2 weeks ago!). It flexes, and indeed even the button mid way down starts to come apart.
3. Pressure Sensitivity - it isn't. I use pressure sensitivity to draw/write. I've used the note range for 3+ years. This pen is NOT pressure sensitive. It draws with one pressure only rather than the 256/512 of an official s-pen. I've tried in lecture notes (standard pencils, pressure sensitivity on) and s-pen
My conclusion is that this pen is a fake.
Can anyone advise other checks/things to look out for? anything I may have forgotten/missed on pressure sensitivity?
Do samsung take any interest in fakes & retailers? Ideally I'd like to report the retailer to them as suspicious - but not if it's going to take years of my life going through a useless customer service nightmare...
Note this was a mobile outlet in the UK that deals in online and I've used once or twice in the past for small things, not an ebay purchase. Why? because I wanted a proper s-pen back!
Meanwhile can anyone recommend a "known good" source of replacement s-pens in/to the UK. I was somewhat suspicious of many of the ebay sellers. the closest I've found so far is that site above, but no idea if they are reputable.
I won't mention the retailer yet...

Hi Nigel,
I certainly believe that you've gotten a fake. According to the ad you posted, the dealer promises satisfaction guaranteed. Try returning it, and if that falls, contact Samsung. By the way, did you order the right pen? You're right-If you ordered a pen for the SGN 10.1 (2014), it should be very solid and should function well.
Anyway, I don't know if this dealer delivers to the UK or not, but I've not I had any trouble with eBay. You might try them. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Replacement S Pen

Does anyone know or have recently purchased a replacement S Pen? I've looked on Amazon and the only one that came across as genuine supposedly has no pressure sensitivity, and on Ebay it's the same seller. Everywhere else has either stopped selling them or they're out of stock. I have the full sized S Pen to hold me over but the offset is annoying.
I'm in the U.S. also

I've gone through quite a few of these third party replacents. Not one of them had pressure sensitive or replaceable nibs as the original. Contacting Samsung is a waste of time, as they prefer you to buy a new tablet when the pen dies.
Seriously, I went to an "offficial" parts website for Samaung S-PEN replacement. I couldn't even get a PART NUMBER from the site. IMHO, Samsung is leaving such sales in the hands of the very poor quality fakes selling all over.
I LIKE my Tablet. But the ONLY way I would buy another one with the S-Pen (which I love) is if the store I bought it from could prove that they could GET Spens, by sellingme a spare at the time! Samsung shuold maybe stop with the bajilion differnt models and SUPPORT the one time great products that they used to have.
Still want a working/not fake pen. ;-Deano
I feel your pain I caved in and bought a knock off on Amazon. It has pressure sensitivity but the nib is plastic and I feel like I'm scraping the screen everytime I write. It's the best we can get though :crying:

But I don't understand WHY Samsung actually REFUSES to let retail stores to carry them? They really seem to be pushing their owners support right out the door. It's not as if were so impossible to conceive of anybody losing a pen..
Who's writing THIS business plan...Trump? ;-Deano
I had the same problem. Tried to order an OEM from CompSource but turned out they were out of stock. Went for a knockoff. Its not bad, but its not good either. Sad that my Note is still very usable but the lack of a decent replacement stylus may force me to find something else.
If you like to use pressure sensitive s pen, you can purchase an s pen of note 3, note 4 or note 5 but of course they are not attachable to device because of their shape.
I lucked out and found the Wacom Bamboo Feel on eBay. Not cheap, but very sweet. AND it was made for this tablet!! ;-DeanoD
i did a quick search on 2 sites in uk handtec and hyper-direct and both have what appear to be original pens for the p600 and tabpro. There is no mention of pressure sensitivity but they are only £8.00 so i may pick one up to see. Since i also have the note 3 i can use that pen in a pinch but it might not be a bad idea to have a spare anyway.
I just did a Google Search and found a bunch of knock-offs, but eight genuine ones for the Note 10.1(2014) were there as well. The real McCoy isn't cheap, costing anywhere from $29 to $16. The reason Samsung doesn't market them is inventory. It costs them too much to have pens for a long out of production tablet laying around.
It looks like genuine replacement S-pens for the Note 2014 can be ordered from here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New...alaxy-Note-10-1-2014-Edition/32601677612.html
Not expensive, either, just $7.14.
Also, replacement S-pens are available on Amazon, in Canada and the USA.
Ebay is where I purchased mine - sealed bag - correct length of pen and replacement tips - which my original pen did not have. Very pleased. Cant post a link not enough posts. Seller was tech-24-2.
I also got the samsung Spen with Erasure from another dealer - used with a further 5 tips - that with my note4 means I have 15 spare tips - yipee a lifetime worth.
