[Q] SMS messages are only going to Google Voice, and bypassing "Messages." Why?
I have my Google Voice integrated with my Sprint phone number. Normally, if somebody texts me, it shows up in Google Voice, Messages, Handcent, and whatever other messaging app I have installed. I just configure the notifications as I like them, so that I'm only notified by 1.
Ever since I installed Synergy, incoming messages only go to my google voice app. They don't show up in "messages."
If I send a message from "messages," then the outgoing message also shows up in google voice. But any reply I receive will also only show up in google voice. It's like only google voice works for incoming messages now.
This is still true if I uninstall google voice from my phone. I can only send. Not receive.
Please, someone out there give me some advice. I'd rather use the native app and just use GV for my desktop.

Uninstall Google voice.
Then redownload it.
When you run it for first time, br sure to skip the sprint integration at the very beginning. Now you should be back to normal

Settings -> Sync and Notifications -> Check Text notifications.
Or go to voice.Google.com and change it from there.

can someone tell me why Google Voice has taken over my text messaging? how do I get it to stop? I went to Google Voices site but could not find any way to stop it.
I had same problem, called sprint tech support, you have to be unrooted and call from another line not your phone, they give you codes to put in your dialer then your good to go. Good luck!

No need to unroot, if you set up your Google Voice with Sprint Integration this is a "feature" of that. I went went to google.com/voice and completely got rid of my Google voice acct, then on my phone I uninstalled the app. After that's all done to back to google.com/voice and set up a new account with a different number then your cell phone. After you set up a different num D/L Google voice from the market and this time when it asks if you wanna integrate your account click 'skip' and just use Google voice for your default voice mail.

it sends your voice to google to analyse it and sends back the text.
open the google voice app on your phone. goto sync and notifications. uncheck Inbox Notifications, and check text messages. Should be just like normal. You will then get a text message when there is a voicemail which you can open up the google voice app to listen to it.

Did you set it to be your default sms app?
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Voice,
then scroll down to the area "Launch by Default" and clear the defaults.

Googlee Voice Notifications and calling?

Finally got around to use my Sprint number as GV number. This adds an option to send/receive text from GV. Way cool that I was able to text with just a wifi connection while in Dominican Republic w/o phone service.
Back in states now and I get sms twice, once in native app and once in gv... along with two notifications. Would like to use native sms and notifications, but can't figure out how to disable GV text notifications w/o also disabling vm notifications. Is it possible?
Options are for checkbox "notify via text msg" which I assume means a text msg will be sent to ur phone when u have gv vm/sms( which I've never gotten)? And the other option is to have status bar notifications, but I think that will disable both sms and vm status bar notifications.
Guess I could just disable notifications from native app, and uncheck send sms to this phone from gv on the pc?
Also seems the spring integration gv has removed the option to place calls using gv?

"Also seems the spring integration gv has removed the option to place calls using gv?"
the google voice app will change once u enable integration. You no longer need to use the "call using google voice" option because it will automatically use gv to make long distance calls for you. Billing for this is done through your google account NOT your sprint account and it no longer requires data (wifi or 3g) to call using gv.
It's integrated.
Regarding your notifications:
Menu -> More -> Settings -> sync and notifications
uncheck "synch inbox"
check "notify via text messages"
All text messages will now come through your native sms client only.
Of course you can still view your text in the gv app by forcing a refresh as well.

Lot's of settings from the PC and GV app, hard to understand how thew all work together? Tried lot's of combinations...
Think I'm gonna stop using native sms app and just use gv for all sms and vm. Nice that it keeps a log of all (both in and out) across all devices. And you don't have to restore sms after a fresh flash and wipe.
Does seem to be somewhat of a delay sending sms from gv. How do other's have it set up?
Can gv do mms?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
For now on the PC:
Under phone.. uncheck receive text
Under vm/text..uncheck email and sms notifications to phone
Under native app...notifications off (will gv pick up inbound mms)?
Under gv app..sync inbox, uncheck notify via text msg, and check inbox notifications
Does that sound about right?

I think you're confusing yourself a bit...and me as well. What is it EXACTLY that u want to happen?
Do u want to receive text using the gv app or the native messaging app?
I receive all notifications through my native app only. I do this because you can only receive mms messages through the native app (GV does NOT work with mms).
I also receive vm notifications through my native app. However, in open the gv app to listen to them. This is the only reason I use the gv app.
If this sounds like what u want then do the following:
PHONE:
Synch inbox - unchecked
Text Msg - checked (btw..this option is the same as checking "receive texts messages on this phone" from the pc).
PC (voice.google.com) :
under voicemail - "Send a text (SMS) message to Cell" - checked
under phone - "Receive text messages on this phone" - checked (AGAIN...this is the same as checking "Text Messages" on the GV app on your phone)
Hope this helps.
Thanks! It helps a lot understanding that some of the gv app settings on the phone are the same as google.com/voice.
Yeah... way confusing. Started out as a cool way to get sms while overseas. When I came back it was weird to get double notifications and seeing some sms show up in the native app and some in GV. I think it would be a lot easier if GV had a way to differentiate between sms and vm notifications, but it appears its all or nothing. Options, to summarize:
1. Your way: all sms/mms and associated notifications come through native app. VM notifications also come to you as a text message, and you then open up GV to view/listen to vm. Question: Does GV keep a log of all your incoming/outgoing text messages?
2. My proposed way: all sms and vm and their notifications are handled by GV. MMS bypasses gv and I get the mms and notification in the native app (I turned native notifications back on). All incoming/outgoing sms messages are logged in GV (even text sent from native app) AND available across all my devices (Nook Color and google.com/voice)... which is kind of cool because I can pick up the conversation w/o my Epic. It's just weird how GV app breaks down the conversations... I've got like four different threads each containing several sms to/from Missy. Don't understand why they're not all combined as conversation with Missy.
So clear as mud... still interested in how others have it set up?
Yeah, I really hate how gv does message threading too...that's y I use the native app. Hopefully they upgrade the app soon. When they do I'll switch over completely.
All incoming text messages are recorded in gv whether u receive it in the native app or not. I'm not sure about outgoing though. I believe they are recorded too but the only way to know for sure is to test it yourself.

Can someone please help me out? I can send text messages and all but I only receive them with Google voice for some reason. I've looked everywhere for the settings to change it to the default application for texting but can't find anything =/

Go to the website and delete the account. Then when you make a new one don't combine it with your sprint account.

Looks like that worked out for me. Thanks a lot man =)
Also when using google voice, in the setup don't choose the use a text client.

You can integrate Google Voice and still use your stock messaging app (or whatever app you want). That way you keep the other functionality of Google Voice if you want it. The only problem is you'll have to receive voicemail notifications via text instead of a status bar notification. Google Voice does not give you an option to be notified of voicemails only . Here's how you do it:
Once you have Google Voice setup with Sprint integration...
1. Open Google Voice and press settings.
2. Select "Sync and notifications".
3. Uncheck "Inbox Notifications".
-Yes, this will cause Google Voice to no longer give you status bar notifications
4. Check "Text messages" to tell Google Voice to notify you of voicemails via text message. It will warn you that you will get duplicate notifications, but you can just click "Ok" because you're not going to.
5. This last step is very important - Go to voice.google.com -> voice settings and click "edit" by your google voice enabled phone number. Make sure the box that says "Receive text messages on this phone" is checked.

Stupid google voice!

So I apparently signed in to google voice (used it long ago for an aosp ROM) and I now I get duplicate texts. I've signed out of the app....didn't help. I also went to the google voice page on my desktop and into settings, phone, and tried to unselect my number but it says I have to have at least one forwarding number.
Does anyone know how to turn this off? And why the hell do they make it so difficult to not use their product???

Turn off texts in the Google Voice settings.
Under what tab in settings? I can't find an option anywhere. I only see a box to check for a text notification for new voicemail. This box is already unchecked though.
open the google voice app on your phone go to settings>sync and notifications> receive text messages and select also via messaging app
for me when i have google voice ticked it goes to both so i hope this works for u
Thanks guys.I also had an app called "cold shoulder" that was giving me multiple texts.

Google Voice problems Urgent help

The new google voice doesn't let me select to send texts with my cell phone number or to send calls with my cell phone number. It defaults to my google voice number.
The begining of the year, If I sent a text through my messaging app it would use my cell phone number and if I sent it through the google voice app it would send it with my google voice number. I dont know which version I was using.
Ive tried installing installing previous versions.
0.4.1.19
.3.4 (#13)
.3.0
With all three versions I was able to switch my phone so I can make calls with my carrier number and GV number. But all my texts are still showing up with my google voice number!
Current version is 0.4.2.66
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks
I need this fixed ASAP because I use one number for personal use and another for buisness.
You need to file a bug report with Google Voice support.

Did you try clearing defaults in Google Voice and also in the messaging app? It should ask which you would like to use unless you checked the use as default box.
Also go on Google Voice on your computer to set your GV number to your cell phone number. That's what I did and I don't have any problems. Also try going into the settings for GV and click on Sync and Notifications and see if it's having you send texts through GV instead of the messaging app.

Kenny I dont see any defaults on google voice website.
If I understand what your telling me. The messaging app is not the problem. Whats the problem is when I go into the native messaging app and send a text it reads as if My phone has the google voice number. When before If I sent a message through the native messaging app it would use my number and If I sent a message through the google voice app it would use my google voice number.

If I make my cell phone number my primary on GV on the internet I will loose my GV number.
I have both Google Voice Enabled and Receive text messages on this phone under the phones tab in GV settings on the internet.
I tried both sending a text with Sync and Notifications selected and it not selected and both times it doesn't recognize my number when I recieve a text.
I uninstalled the app and tried sending myself a text and I No longer recieved texts through the messaging app. Its like incoming texts are set to my GV number without the app even being in the phone! This is a big problem!!!
Looks like Ill have to do a full reset and hopefully that fixes this!

I mean the Google Voice app on the phone. My GF uses her GV for business and everytime she sends a text it asks her which app she would like to use, GV or Messaging app. She did not integrate her number. If it does it even though you have uninstalled the GV app then it is a setting on the Google Voice website.

Thanks I GOT IT TO WORK.
Texting and calling works now. I can choose to call from my GV number and My Cell number and texting from the native app recognizes my cell number and texting from the google app recognizes my cell number.
What I did was
1. Remove google voice and install version 0.4.1.19
2. Go on GV on the internet and disable google voice to my sprint phone.
It works. Now.
Why not integrate and use your Sprint number as both your cell phone number and your GV number?
Edit: NVM, I didn't read the OP thoroughly.
