Resizing wallpaper - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Whatever I do with the orange resizing guide line box, I can't get wallpapers to fit on my homescreen exactly as I see them in the gallery. They're always too big for the screen. Even the default ones that came with the phone. They look nice but I can't see the whole image. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know, may be you are not stretching the orange lines to the max edges/corners of the screen, which is needed to set a wallpaper properly for portrait view. Be sure to check the portrait mode before stretching just under the pic also.

I am stretching the lines to the edges, as far as they'll go. When in landscape mode, I can stretch the lines to the edges, but when in portrait mode, it doesn't.
Either way, I can't get the whole image visible that you can see in screenshot 1.

That's a scrollable wallpaper mate. It's very normal.

Hello, i used to have this problem. I have found this app, crop wallpaper.
It lets you use a full size wallpaper in portrait mode without loss of quality or the annoying zooming in. Very useful app, just disable "Wallpaper Scrolling" in your launcher settings first.

Hurl durp. How else are you going to see a whole image in portrait mode. Unless you want black letterboxes at top and bottom.

I'm not sure if i worded it right but what i meant is that when you try and set a wallpaper that is 480x800, the phone forces you to resize the wallpaper. When this happens you can't resize the orange square so that it covers the whole image, you can only resize it so that it covers 1 third of the image, thus the zooming in and loss of quality. So i use the Crop Wallpaper app to set the wallpaper (480x800) without resizing so the image doesn't zoom in and you don't lose quality. Still, no need to be a **** about it. "Hurl durp" -_-

Thanks TekJoe, got it ready to install. I'll see how it goes.

G1 Wallpaper Template in PSD Format

I just got a G1 a few days ago and wanted to make a wallpaper for it. As you know there's several screen breaks: three when viewed horizontal and three more when viewed vertical. I tried downloading a couple templates from various blogs and forums, but none were very thorough, so I made my own.
It's a tradition of sorts that I make a wallpaper for my phones featuring Keith Olbermann, so I named it after him cause I'm a big gay dork like that.
The template has two color coded Layer Sets: Each set of layers has three sub-layers that highlight the screen breaks and viewable area that occur on either of home screen's orientations.
I also included a layer of bars that align with the bottom row of icons for each orientation. I got the idea from another wallpaper I downloaded, I don't remember which but I tweaked it a little since it wasn't quite right when viewed horizontally.
The part at the bottom with my website link on it is never visible on the phone, so you can replace it with your credit there if you use it.
Some screenshots:

You missed the point of the template. It has overlays that let you see beforehand exactly which parts of your wallpaper will display on all the Android "screens" whether landscape or portrait. Nothing worse than picking a wallpaper, no matter the res, and not being able to see the best part of it unless you open the keyboard and flip left.

Yes, but when you're viewing in landscape mode about a third of the image is cut off. Plus, some of us like to use something other than just 'any image'
... and the resolution is 640x480.
Over 200 downloads so far.. just wondering if anyone is using it and if they are if they have any suggestions?
I'm downloading it now. I'll let you know if I can think of anything useful to share! Thanks for the template.
Thanks! I'm thinking about adding a layer in the horizontal set that gives you letterbox style bands on the top and bottom so you can see what gets cut off when the orientation is flipped.
Just updated it (the 1.5 version) to add letterbox style bars on the tops and bottom to make obvious what will be viewable in each orientation.

[Wallpaper set][Updated 4 may] Not for Mango!

I created these simple wallpapers with transparency. The grey is 75% transparant.

WP7 wallpapers:
Stars pack. These are also 75% transparant:
The lockscreen becomes transparant when there is an animation, so when you touch it is tranparant.
Download:
WP7 Wallpapers.zip
Stars Pack.zip
Windows logo pack.zip
How to:
1. First download the zip file with the wallpapers.
2. Mail the wallpaper you want to yourself.
3. Go to the mail with your Windows Phone.
4. Tap on the pic in the mail. This will download it. Like pictures in e-mails.
5. Open the pic.
6. Don't save it to your phone. Tap 'use as wallpaper' from the options.
7. Now you have a nice lockscreen.
It won't work with password on!
Let me know what you think about them.
really like the idea of this, just one question, when I set it as wallpaper and wake the phone up (Not touching it) it shows the wallpaper as it should but in the background it shows the full image of the lockscreen off centre faintly in the background..
It's quite hard to explain but I don't yet have a camera I can take a picture of.. although when I do touch the screen to open it the opacity shows and looks nice..
I'm running mango if that may mean anything.
Cheers,
MVP

Glad you like the idea. It isn't working because of Mamgo. They took it out of Windows Phone 7.5. But maybe I will make wallpapers without transparency for Mango.

Quick math calculation

Considering our screens are 480x800 and I set my home screen to 4 columns by 5 rows, what size does that make each square? Actually let me reword that as the dock bar takes up a portion of the screens real estate (however I have no idea how much of the screen is dedicated to the dock bar).
What I'm attempting to do is create a photoshop wallpaper with various icons, images & words and then use that wallpaper on my phone. From there I'll overlay an invisible icon over each corresponding icon, image & word that will launch the specified app I set the invisible icon too. Does that make sense?
As an example: Lets assume that I set the image below of The Rock as my wallpaper & want his right eyeglass lens to launch the gallery app when pressed. Using Desktop Visualizer, I'll create an icon using the invisible icon I have, set it to launch the gallery app & once created on my home screen, drag it atop his right sunglass lens.

Why don't you just screen shot your home screen and load that into Photoshop.. doesn't have to be about math. However, if you truly wanted to do a math problem then it would need to be known what launcher, what dock, size of dock icons, margins in between icons, margins below status bar, margins above dock, and margins left and right between screens which you'd likely find by decompiling the app and diving into the layout. #1 seems a bit more straight forward haha

Setting wallpaper without crop

There is one annoying thing about android.... Wallpaper cropping, i have a 720p wallpaper which i want on my phone WITHOUT scrolling, i try and set it and this happens

any ways around it?
Hi,
I'm in the same boat as you, been looking for an answer but can't seem to find one. Id love to set some of my gallery pics without cropping them. It should be possible, the standard htc wallpapers are in system/customize/resource.
Anyone have any ideas?

You can re-size then with an App such as PicSayPro
Quickpic, off the market my friend.
Awesome app.
I've been using wallpaper wizardrii and multipicture live wallpaper. Both seem to work well

I hope Android 5.0 has an option to set a wallpaper without scrolling, i know Galaxy S3 has that since this wallpaper were extracted from it.

wallpaper wizardrii, ugly icon, less than pleasant interface but it does the job.
Yeah, i used wizardrii aswell but when u now go from left to right on your homescreens there are these ugly black bars....
I didn't have a problem with my old Desire HD running android 2.3
It just selected the entire picture and set it as wallpaper...,,,done, no cropping!
I'm starting to get anoid with android 4.0.....
Where can we complain to make them updated the bloody thing and make sure we can have these selections again!?
Same as that I lost the ability to toggle on/off GPS in the scroll down quick settings menu. It's gone now in 4.0!!?! WTF!!
And Whatsapp doesn't show my contact Facebook profile pictures anymore in the Whatsapp contacts list.
There are serious problems still with android 4.0,,grrrrrr.

Exactly the same for me.
Thank you, this was what I needed..
I found wonderful free wallpapers on ssiphone.com but they don't need to be cropped (and I don't need the wallpaper to scroll)
Thank you to share the information
When you set the wall paper you can drag the yellow box out but still doesn't use a full picture taken by the camera.

Where the background from a hi-res picture looks like crap after putting it through the wall paper chooser.
It seems to happen to all images (downloaded or taken from the camera), but it doesn't happen to default background images.
It's also cutting off a good portion of the picture. I don't know if this is specifically related to ADW Launcher or if it is related to the entire system.
The lockscreen isn't having as many issues (if any).
I have tried low res pictures, 720p pictures, and 1080p + pictures, and they all seem to have the same thing happen to them. Not sure what would be causing this issue.
Full picture can be found here: http://www.androidwallpapers.eu/wallpapers/picture/nature/1234.html
EDIT: Forgot to tell what version. I am on Stock Odex'ed EL29 with Rouge CWM Repack. This is a clean install.
This happens when selecting other wall paper as well:
Again same thing. I specifically choose a 480x800 wall paper on interface lift, even though it seems to want to serve a 960x800 picture. If I narrow the selection of the orange outline, it just zooms in further so the picture becomes more pixelated and distorted.
Try using the app quickpic from the market. It gives you an option to set wallpaper from there. See if it does the same thing.

Thats really annoying / lame, as I don't remember having this happen in older builds. Thanks for the tip.
Back in the day I used to use an app called Wallpaper Set and Save. It's a little cumbersome to use if you change wallpapers alot but it works well in ensuring no banding or distortion.
Wallpaper wizardrii solves this. Its in the market free. It allows you to set landscape as is etc. I have yet to found a wallpaper it can't handle.
I dl the image and set as my wallpaper for an example.

Unfortunately this issue is occurring again with FE13, and the above suggestions don't seem to be solving the problem.
Anyone have any other idea?
Sorry to bring up an older thread but was this issue ever figured out? It doesn't happen with my home screen wallpaper but rather with my lockscreen.
I adjust the box to the area I want and it won't 'zoom' to that area. It remains the same and basically blows up that area to the screen size when I set it. It looks like hell.
I did resolve it with the Homescreen, but I haven't had the issue with the Lockscreen. I don't know if quickpic can set the lock screen or not.
