how to get sprint/Google Voice voicemail? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I signed up for the Sprint+Google integration as soon as it came out. But I never get my voicemails. How do you get notification of it or check it from you phone(without signing into google voice through the browser)

It runs through the Google Voice app and not the "Voicemail" app. So you'll need to download Google Voice from the Market and then sign in through there.

Figured as much...I just don't like getting the texts through there. I just want to get my VM

Voice Mail Problem

A few months ago, I installed the Google Voice app, chose my existing number and Google voice in settings and let it run. It was ok, but not as good as VVM. Plus gettign a text msg, a gmail alert and a VM alert every time I get a call was annoying.
So, when I flashed Mik's, I didn't re-install gvoice, and chose my carrier and now I get no VM alerts. VVM says I have no messages. "1" on dialer direct to VM says I have no messages, but if I browse to google.com/voice on my browser, I can see my messages.
How the hell do I get away from Google voice now and just let Sprint VM handle my messages?
EDIT!!!!
Nevermind, finally found it.
*38 disables gvoice

can someone tell me why Google Voice has taken over my text messaging? how do I get it to stop? I went to Google Voices site but could not find any way to stop it.
I had same problem, called sprint tech support, you have to be unrooted and call from another line not your phone, they give you codes to put in your dialer then your good to go. Good luck!

No need to unroot, if you set up your Google Voice with Sprint Integration this is a "feature" of that. I went went to google.com/voice and completely got rid of my Google voice acct, then on my phone I uninstalled the app. After that's all done to back to google.com/voice and set up a new account with a different number then your cell phone. After you set up a different num D/L Google voice from the market and this time when it asks if you wanna integrate your account click 'skip' and just use Google voice for your default voice mail.

it sends your voice to google to analyse it and sends back the text.
open the google voice app on your phone. goto sync and notifications. uncheck Inbox Notifications, and check text messages. Should be just like normal. You will then get a text message when there is a voicemail which you can open up the google voice app to listen to it.

Did you set it to be your default sms app?
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Voice,
then scroll down to the area "Launch by Default" and clear the defaults.

Google Voice with Sprint Integration without Texts through Gvoice

So you want Google Voice on your Evo but you don't want your texts to come through Google Voice. Well here is what you need to do to get this to work.
1,) Download Google Voice from the Android Market
2.) Open Google Voice and go ahead and set everything up the way you want. Sprint integration will be automatic there is no stopping this. Let it ride through but it will delete all your Sprint Voicemails so make sure you have nothing important.
3.) So now all your texts are coming through Google Voice and you are sitting there frantic. Well here is what you do to allow just voicemails to be handled.
4.) Go into you google voice account on your computer. You can get to the website through Google by searching Google Voice. You login is the same as your Gmail
5.) Go up in to the top right corner and click on the thing that looks like a gear and go to Voice Settings.
6.) You will see a page with your google voice number and your mobile number and then you have two options.
7.) You will see a link down by the edit and delete buttons and it should say activate Google voicemail on your phone. Click this and it should bring a screen up saying call a number which should be *28+your google voice number. You want to go into you call pad and call this number. This enables call forwarding to the voicemail if you hang up or don't answer a call. If successful you will hear two beeps and then it will hang up. You will now recieve your voicemails through Google Voice .
8.) Now to get rid of that pesky texting.
9)You will see a link next to the Sprint logo that says Disable Google Voice on your Sprint phone.
10.) You need to click this link but sometimes Google won't let you do it for around 15 min. Just be patient and check it again in about 15 min and click it.
11.) It will now say Enable Google Voice on your sprint phone. You should be good now and you will only receive voicemail's through Google Voice and your texts will resume through you MMS app.
12.) If you are rooted you can go ahead and delete the Sprint VVM app now.
There is my tutorial. I know there has been a good amount of debate on this topic and people getting pissed at google which I was too. They should have the option right below you number:
Receive Texts
Receive Voicemails
but of course they don't. Anyways enjoy stock texting and Google Voice voicemail.
Great post with clear directions!! I'll give it a try
How do you revert back if there are problems??

You simply go down to deactivate Google voicemail on this phone and it will give you a number *38 to call. Once you call that it will beep twice and you can go back to using SprintVVM.

Anyone has issues with Google Voice and Sprint Visual Voicemail?

I seem to still get an occasional voicemail in the sprint app eventhough my sprint number has been fully integrated with google voice for years now. The majority of my voicemails come in through google voice (now hangouts), but occasionally, one or two go into the sprint app and i have to go into it to check and delete them.
Does anyone know why this happens and a way to fix it? I want everything in google voice/hangouts. Also, i do have the new version of hangouts.

Google Voice Issues

With google voice installed you dont get a promt to leave a message sign out and it uses sprints Voice mail i think they're conflicting. Maybe when i root and completely remove the stock visual voicemail this will end.
