Wildfire S and Ipad 1 - HTC Wildfire S

ok so today I bought an HTC wildfire S with an internet dataplan.
Presently have an IPAD 1 without the 3G option so needed to find a mobile phone that can tether with it. They recommended me this mobile as they said it needs to have the wifi hotspot option.
Can someone link me to some info on what is needed to be installed and setup to make it work with my IPAD.
Thanks to all.

Hi,
Your phone already have all it needs for tethering. Just go to setings>Wireless&networks > portable wi-fi hotspot setings and set all parameters you like (SSID name, security type -wep, wap, wap2 ans set a password). After go back to wireless & networks and activate portable wi-fi hotspot (before that you have to activate Mobile network, otherwise will be a wi-fi network without internet connexion) and voila... you should see the new created wi-fi netword with the SSID you chose on your Ipad wi-fi manager.
Good luck

Thanks....
felt stupid after I switched on for the first time my mobile and found the Wifi hotspot in the menu thought it was an app I had to download....

[Q] Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

Hello,
I want to use portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone to connect to my laptop in places where public wi-fi is not available, or to connect to two computers to each other. And it seems to be working.
But I have a problem. I do not want to use mobile network to access Internet for those computers. I want only to exchange data between phone and computer, or between computers themselves.
But every time I switch on hotspot, 3G connection switches on automatically, even if it is switched off on purpose. I know this is intended use of hotspot, but I have a question:
Is there a way to prevent phone switching 3G network on in wi-fi hotspot mode, or just preventing data traffic over 3G?
Or I am missing the point completely?
The application is not intended for such usage; all it does is route traffic between connected wlan-clients and the carrier's apn. The phone itself has the ip-address 192.168.1.1 during this setup, but it is not listening on any ports that would be useful for your setup (ie 'cifs/samba').

I do not know if I do understand you but here are the facts:
I connect two dell laptops to portable wi-fi hotspot on my wildfire s:
one is : 192.168.1.135
other : 192.168.1.185
I can ping one from another. If I share a folder in one (.135) and go to others(.185) "Search for computers or people" I see all files in shared folder and can do all the usual operations over them (edit, move...)
Also if I install Remote Web Desktop from Market on my phone I can access phone through web interface.
In a word, I can do all things as on "normal" wi-fi network ( and I promise it is the only network around here ) except all the time I have 3G switched on. And I do not want to do that because I see my network data traffic going up.
So, as I see things, my only problem is unwanted 3G traffic.
Help?
Ah, but you did not mention that you had installed a seperate application to open up a port for the webinterface.
This however does not change the intended usage for the mobile wifi hotspot application!
hey...you can try this:
1. go to your mobile network settings
2. create a new APN, a dummy one
3. set the new APN as default
4. launch your wifihotspot
I did not test it with 2 pcs but, when u launch wifihotspot, 3g no longer comes on and my pc still connected to the wireless network without any problems.
Let us know your results
Cheers,
Hey,
I ran more test on this issue. The previous posted solution works like a charm.
I was able to use the wifihotspot as a wireless access point:
1. 2 or more PCs can communicate with each other (browse folders)
2. If one of the PCs has internet access, it shares to the rest of the PCs
3. If one of the PCs has an ethernet connection to a server, all other PCs also get connection to the server
For 3. to work, you will need to brigde the local area connection with the wireless connection on the PC that has cabled ethernet connection. Also browsing folders will work only if you use \\server ip (\\servername does not work).
I will try getting DNS access via the hotspot later.
Hope this helps

[Q] 3G Mobile Hotspot alternative for creating WiFi HotSpot?

Hi,
I was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings.
Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem.
On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop.
Is there some workaround how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?
Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?
Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). I dont know, what should I set in my laptot to use Defy like BT 3G Internet provider and I dont know, if Internet Tetherig via BT is not charged at my carrier (I know, that the 3G WiFi hotspot feature was not extra charged..) so for that reason I would like to make it working on my Defy.
My ROM: original 34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE
Android 2.2.2
Thanks for help in advance!

Sharing VPN connection by wifi tethering

Hello, as the title suggests, has anyone achieved VPN connection tethering thru wifi? I can't seem to make VPN Hotspot(an app by a developer here on XDA) work, but by using PDANET+, it works. Can anyone help me?
Works fine for me.
Here's my setup. I'm subscribed to NordVPN, and use an app called TetherNet VPN. Must be rooted. The key is to go into Developer settings, and turn off "tethering hardware acceleration."
It also depends on the order that you do things:
1) turn on your mobile hotspot, and connect your computer or whichever device you want, I usually let it stay connected for 10 min or so before step 2)
2) Connect to your VPN
3) Open TetherNet VPN and tap "Share VPN on Hotspot."
4) Enjoy fast, unlimited tethering.
When you wish to turn it off. I find it best to turn off the hotspot first, then disconnect from VPN tethering. Data connection gets a little wonky if you disconnect from VPN first. Also helps to reboot the device afterward.
It's a bit of a procedure, but well worth it if you ask me to get around Verizon's BS games.
Not possible for root? With PdaNet+, the client device doesn't see the hotspot.

Many thanks for this. Your app seems to work. The app VPN Hotspot doesn't work for me for some reason.
My device is on Android 5.1.1 and VPN Hotspot requires some newer operating systems.

Foxfi not working

I'm sure there may be something out there but honestly, I'm in a pinch and do not have time to search. I've always rooted my phone and purchased Foxfi for those times I do not have Wi-Fi on my laptop and need to do connect quickly. Today was one of those days as I needed to send a document, while I'm on vacation as I forgot to do it prior. I'm visiting my parents and they do not have internet (yes they are old school or as I call them... ancient) and could not connect my laptop. At times like this, Foxfi was my savior, into now when I went to turn it on my phone and I received a message that the app no longer works. Can anyone provide me with some background as to what happened and why? I'm running Android 8.1.0 / Oxygen 5.1.1 on my OnePlus 5. I've used the app before on this phone, so I know it use to work. Thank you.
Well, I don't know why it's not working, but why are you just not using the built in Portable Hotspot option? You can change the SSID, the password as well, you can do 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and there is a very convenient quick tile for turning on and off this hotspot.
You can find it by searching for "Tethering & portable hotspot" or by going to the Settings > Wireless & Network section: More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Edit:
I just tried FoxFi, and it's not working for me either, saying the my carrier might not support tethering, which is not true. It offered me to download PdaNet+, with a new version of tethering, "WiFi Direct Hotspot (new!)", and this application is working and it seems to keep the licence from FoxFi, so you'll not have to buy it again.

Problems to create 5ghz hotspot

Hello one more time team
Here I'm reporting another annoying bug with my device
I have tried many time to create or make a 5ghz hotspot work
My external devices can see others 5ghz network but even when i create it with the RM5S, It is not visible.
I have done a network reset on the phone, check and unchecked the "support 6th generation" option in the tethering options and it just does not work
2.4ghz works fine
I have reported the issue via ticket but I guess will not be solved as my previous tickets
Anyone with the same issue?
Attaching evidence

some countries do not allow the use of personal 5g wifi tethering. its possible you live in one of these countries? the feature is blocked on the rom if you are in a country that does not allow it.

Hey Patrick
Thanks again for your answer
I read about that limitation in a oneplus forum but I don't really know how to check that.
Actually, i can add something to my issue
While i am reporting the hotspot issue, i must said i am able to share a "connected" wifi using the 5ghz band WHEN (Sorry for the big letters) in use an app called "vpn hotspot"
I dont want to confuse you
I dont need the vpn hotspot app to create a normal hotspot. But the default settings of RM ROM does not let me create the 5ghz connection.
When i connect to a 5ghz router at home, i can "create" another wifi 5ghz network using "vpn hotspot" app (i usually do this cause i need a vpn network for many devices)
The main problem is with mobile data. When i am not at home, the vpn hotspot app does "IS NOT" allowed to modify the system settings for the hotspot created by the rom, it only replicates the original setup and bypass the VPN traffic
So, going back to the original issue, i am not sure if it is a country restriction. I usually live.in Hungary but i am now in poland and i received the device on this last country.
I would even wonder how to create the hotspot using the wifi 6 standard as it should be supported as well.
Thanks for the feedback

sounds like the VPN software you're using is interfering with the creation of the hotspot.
if the 5g hotspot wifi works as intended using the normal hotspot settings on the phone without the VPN, then it would make sense that its the VPN app thats causing the issue.
I can create and use both 2.4g and 5g wifi hotspots, sharing my Mobile network. it works correctly. i do use DNS 66 to block adverts but thats the only VPN type software i use, and its only for black listing adverts and inbedded video adverts on sites.
so test the hotspot settings with the normal phone settings with the VPN off or uninstalled. - if this works correctly. the problem is with your VPN software. you would need to contact support for that app.
some devices do not work with wifi 6 option enabled. turning it off may increase connectivity issues.

Well. I know there was going to be some confusion.
The hotspot does not work with 5ghz even without vpn.
When i use my home wifi, I connect from my phone (no mobile data) to my vpn provider and then with another app, "vpn hotspot" (root required) i can share the vpn traffic to external devices via hotspot. When I do these steps sometimes 5ghz works, and i say sometimes cause I left the "vpn hotspot" wifi setting as default. I might change some network options there but, those options are not available for hotspot within "vpn hotspot" this is why i am blaming the ROM, But maybe you are right and there is some interference between apps. I will try to flush the settings one more time
I have flushed the rules of the vpn hotspot app and tried again. Working fine with and without vpn!
Thanks
I see.
You are trying to filter your wifi connection at home through your phones wifi and share thst connection to other wifi devices.
I dont believe it will work correctly. you're essentially trying to create a wifi repeater.
You're making your wifi chip do 2 things, and its unable to run two streams at the same time.
It state in the Hotspot settings
" Use hotspot to provide internet to other devices through your mobile data"
If you want to connect to your home wifi with your phone, and share thst connection with another device you must use USB tethering.
You risk causing damage to your wifi chip trying to force two connections on it.
using repeater apps, does cause the signal strength to degrade, (bacause you're using the same antenna to receive your home wifi and to create its own wifi. limiting the bandwith and can cause connection issues over time.
the wifi chips in android phone can create a repeating wifi signal, but they're not made to do it. normally as stock android runs when you enable wifi hotspot, it stops the current wifi connecting to create a new wifi access point. using apps to get around that may cause issues and even damage as i stated above. if your wifi chip breaks due to improper use, it will need a warranty return.
