app that can send a voice message to a friend and they can read it when they want - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I remember an app that a couple friends of mine had on their iPhone. 1 person could record a message and send it to the other. the second person would not hear the message until they went into the app. I cant remember what it was called so I was hoping someone here would know what I was talking about. I know there are a couple walkie talkie apps but I prefer to listen to the message when i want. anyone know what app that is and if there is anything similar for droid?

Um, call them and leave them a voice mail?

I believe in spring vvm u can start a new voice message and send it to a specific number.
When in apk hit menu then compose

Heytell is a walkie talkie app, but I believe that you can turn off auto play. You would get a notification that you have a new message, but would actually have to press a button to make it play.

Voice caller Id application?

Anyone know of an application for android that will speak the number or contact, and the state they are calling from when receiving a call? Also is there an application that will say you have a text message and the name of the person texting you?

[Q] Need help finding SMS TTS app

Hey all,
I am looking for an TTS app that will read texts in the stock SMS program. I looked at Drivesafe.ly and it reads the texts upon arrival but couldnt figure out if I could get it to read on command. I'd prefer not to have texts read upon arrival, could lead to embarasing situatons. lol
Vlingo with in car will read texts to you, either on receive or just manually

I'm feeling a bit stoopid, can't figure out how to get Vlingo to manually read the text message. I guess I'm looking for an app that will allow me to press a button like fun>spacebar and have the text message read to me. Anything like that out there?
When you open vlingo and select in car it will turn on safe reader that automatically reads incoming texts, which you said you dint want. Under the incar menu though is a big safe reader button that let's you choose which text you want read.
Just doing it from the messages app though i couldn't help ya
Edit: ahh yeah sorry missed the from stock sms part in first post.

[Q] SMS app

Looking for a sms/mms messaging app that uses my data plan instead of my text plan. Search with no luck. Anyone got anything......
That would just be email right?
Otherwise, SMS is always going to come in/send out via your text plan
I guess that would fall into email. Guess I'm looking for more of a chat based app. comes down to i would like to send and recieve messages with out a number trace.

Kik messenger... similar to BBM....
The problem with most apps that say they are SMS replacements that use your data plan is that they are actually some type of IM program which would require the person you are trying to reach be using it as well.
I'd recommend Google Voice as it would be using the data plan on your end, but be sending a true SMS so the recipient sees it as an SMS. If they want to pay for a text messaging plan, that's their choice.
Certain IM clients like Yahoo IM can send SMS messages, but I don't think it's as clean, it's just easier for the recipient when they see a SMS coming from an actual phone number.
In any case, you'd end up having problems if you like to send pics via MMS. Google Voice does not support MMS (people have been requesting it for a while, I only hope it's on their roadmap).
Did'nt Go sms have this as a paid option?
Get Textfree...when u make account, it gives you number that shows up when u text somebody, and it uses data...I used it a lot on my ipod touch, not so much on my dinc, but still does the job

Live profile. It is supposed to work like blackberry messenger but you can use it cross platform (android, iPhone, BB). Downside is that tonuse it, both you and the person you are trying to reach need to have it installed.

[Q] dial 1 to accept call

When receaving a call I get a voice message saying that there is a call from ----- press 1 to accept the call press 2 to go to voicemail. I am using google voice.
Are there any sugestions. I've gone to settings in "call", "google voice" ect.
Go to GV on your computer and go to settings. There's an option to turn off call screening.

Make sure to set that as the default on all groups, unless there are groups which you wish to have call screening.

I like that it saves all your text and voice messages online, and it is extremely easy to reply to messages from your computer.

Lmao you're a good advertiser. Can I get that using the account using the phone? I think I already have a GV but I didn't get a #. I'm slightly confused but I understand the awesomeness of what you said.

If u never completed setup of Ur fb account just go to Google.com/voice & complete the account setup to get Ur #. Once u've done that simply go to the market & download the gv app & set it up.

Galaxy nexus voicemail app?

Hey guys I have been missing calls lately and my phone doesn't give me any notification I have a voicemail. Since it doesn't tell me I have a missed call can someone point me to an app that would notify me with new voicemails. Thanks

Try going into the voicemail settings. See if there's anything there to help you
Try YouMail service. It's free and will give you iPhone's Visual Voicemail like interface. I love it.
Shell out a few bucks and get the BetterYouMail app from Play Store after registering and setting up with the official Youmail app. Just like the name suggests, Better You Mail is "Better" than the actual Youmail app.
HTH,
vG
google voice is visual voicemail ,its free and even emails you a text transcript of the voicemail message (great for seeing it in office where you cant listen to it)
