New OTA update: 1.47.415.1_R3 Black screen - HTC Wildfire S

I just got a popup on my phone that an OTA update is available for version 1.47.415.1; however when I try to update, my phone reboots; shows a progress bar for less than half a second and then remains stuck on a black screen (none of the hard or softbuttons work anymore). I've tried pulling out the battery, booting into the custom recovery (the chinese one) and running the update in there (update from zip-file on sdcard), but that just gives an error message "update aborted". In the end I just pulled the battery again and rebooted back into Android without any change whatsoever
Anyone else got the same update and got it to work yet? I'm curious what the difference is to 1.33.401.2.

If there are others willing to try and install it through the custom recovery, let me know what the results are; you can download the file from: OTA_Marvel_HTC_ARA_1.47.415.1_R3-1.33.401.2_release_1962180a3pobq6iq5cju2t.zip
The error I'm getting when trying it in the recovery: Assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000", "11111111" ... "99999999", "HTC__J15, "HTC__J15") == "t"
I have also created a supportticket at htc.com; obviously I have not mentioned trying to update it through the custom recovery...

They probably fixed the gingerbreak exploit in this, so it's likely it's not possible to downgrade unless you have S-OFF.

wonder if it can be flashed using the original recovery, maybe using a similar method to debranding the WFS.....
let's try and see...... will report back

I failed to install this update too at first and failed. Then un-rooted my phone and tried again but failed. The update succeded only when I did a clean install of the original ROM (probably because I had some preinstalled apps removed!).
However, I only then realised that this update is for ARABIC ROMs only, since it has only Arabic, English and French language. In the original ROM I had Greek and now I don't, so I had to reinstall the original ROM. HTC said that I shouldn't see that update, unless I had some cooked ROM or sth installed.
Anyway, after the clean install I still see the update available without root or anything else on the phone, only S-OFF.

I also had the same problem about a week ago when an OTA upgrade turned everything to 1.47.415_r3 Arabic without a warning or relevant labels from HTC. I was out of my mind. But HTC claims that the IMEI of my phone comes from Malaysia or Thai so I was "open". Anyhow I found the original European 10.33 RUU and re-installed the whole thing. Yesterday same thing happened but I rejected it. I'm afraid 1.47.415_ARA is back.

Yeah, it keeps asking me to update it. And I guess the "_ARA_" in the filename is the only warning you get regarding the update being Arabic

Someone using this or TMOUS latest RUU may post hboot version?

OTA does not work

I have a Dutch HTC Desire, English language.
When I check for an update I get the message there is one available.
I see the download was completed and it restarts my Desire.
I see a screen with a phone and arrow, followed by a phone with a question mark.
Then the phone restarts and I have the 'old' version.
Is it that I have a rooted version?
What do I have to do to get FroYo? I downloaded PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_12984_signed.zip.
When 'Flash zip from sdcard' it also gave an error:
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Anyone a suggestion?
im having the same probem. downloads the update, restarts but still on the previous version. when i goto software check it shows there is still an update available

Yeah, root is probably the problem.
It's not FroYo though, it's just a bunch of minor changes and bugfixes. Also, it's not that new, it's been out unoffically for a couple of weeks. A lot of the custom roms on here and on modaco are based on the same 1.21 rom and will allow you to keep root and apps2sd. So you could flash to one of those, maybe?
I don't think this is the Froyo update. Apparently it's just an HTC update of some kind that doesn't make much of a change. Just keep trying, but in the mean time don't stress too much, you're not missing out on anything.
o really? so i cant install the OTA updates if i have root? that really sux and if i had known that when i flashed i wouldnt have done it.
i might reflash to this version as i want it for the facebook contacts bug fix. i dont have apps2sd as as far as im aware thats regulary bricking phones, that still the case?
Couldn't say. The Desire root was so half-assed and seemed to cause so many issues that I just didn't bother doing it, so I'm just going by what I've read
ok, well is it possible to do an update without having to flash and therefore resetup and backup all my settings etc? i.e. in the same way the OTA update would do it without resetting the device

The usb brick issue now has a fix available, and it wasn't due to a2sd!
really, thats excellent, u have a link?
Yep.

The recovery method was causing the problems. It still does, but they can now be fixed. people are working on the recovery and booting from SD card etc.
Edit: If you fancy trying out froyo on the desire you can flash a test rom from the dev forums. It's not for everyone yet as it's not totally working, but I'm using a froyo rom and find it's pretty decent for a hacked version!

A rather strange point of view!
Most rooted users wouldn't want to install an OTA because they would then lose root. On other phones (e.g. G1, Magic etc) most rooted ROMs have the OTA mechanism disabled.
The normal course of action for rooted users is to wait for someone to repack the update as a rooted update.zip.

how to manual install OTA update and app2sd

Hey,
When i first got my desire, one of the first things i did to it was root it and install the blank generic HTC rom (to get rid of all the crap my service provider had put on it). However, as its rooted i cant install the OTA update over the air. So ive downloaded the latest one from this forum but how to i install just the update exactly? Actually, i think i just downloaded the non root OTA update, is there a rooted 1.21... update somewhere?
Also, when i initially put the new rom on my phone, i didnt put app2sd on there as i heard about all these phones being bricked and didnt want to lose my nice new shiny desire, but ive heard this problem is now solved. How do i go about installing it now? Do i have to reflash everything or can i just install it over the top as if its an app itself somehow?
so to summarise:
1. how to install OTA manually
2. How to install App2sd
Thanks for you help

problem! update hasnt actually updated phone

hey
I have an orange phone which a while ago i flashed with a generic rom and rooted. because of this i was unable to install the OTA so i did a manual upgrade to this rom:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
This installed fine (it seems), but as i am on orange, when i rebooted the phone it was network locked. I read that flashing an older radio solved this problem so i went and flashed this radio:
update-bravo-radio-32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11-signed.zip
This now makes my phone boot and work fine with no lock, HOWEVER, the software version still says it is on 1.15.405.4 and not the updated version!!!!
I have tried testing one of the bugs that was fixed in the new ota (i sms'd myself from skype and it still says it was sent by a facebook contact) and so that fix clearly wasnt present and the upgrade just hasnt seemd to work. Can anyone shed any light on this? could it have anything to do with what is installed on my phone during step 1 of the root? the root package i am using is called r5-desire-root-alt
Thanks for anyone who can help on this
Rooting the phone puts the 1.15.405.4 ROM back on your device, if you want 1.21 you'll have to then buy an unlock code to free up the device...
There is an update ZIP in the ROM dev forum which updates the system but leaves the radio alone so might wanna try that...
thanks for this, but the only update i have been able to find in the dev forum is the one on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
but there is a note at the top saying they all contain radio updates
do you have a link to one without the radio update?
Didn't look hard did you??

thank you sooo much, this has finally sorted out my problem

[Q] How about 2.31.184.3 and some other n00b questions

Hello there,
I bought a new desire from Vodafone Turkey and it comes with 2.1 Eclair. After i check for new software my phone just updated to 2.31.184.3
I searched forum a little bit about that version but i can't find any kind of info. Is this latest stock rom or is there any update?
By the way i am trying to find these rom or other stock Vodafone Turkey rom files for warranty issues. Is there any place which provide these files?
I just rooted and s-off my phone for adding market (cos google market is disabled in my country due to tax problems) I just push vending app and market updater app /system but i got two problems
When i open market app it crashes 3-4 times and after i can enter app. When i install an app sometimes it frezees at start downloading then i force close app and clear market data and voila download is starting again? Is there anybody solves these problems?
My last question about ota updates. As i say i just rooted and s-off my phone but i didn't change my rom. So can i got updates via OTA? (I know i'll lose root and s-off feature)
Thanx everybody for answers
merhaba,
It is hard to say that update is the latest formal stock rom. But you can find the latest confirmed wwe ruu in android developement forum. It is 2.29.405.2
You risked your warranty by rooting your device without having a original ruu. So, -at your own risk, plus you may need goldcard- I suggest you to install 2.29.405.2, this is the world wide edition rom and contains Turkish language. Maybe you won't find the Turkish choice at first but you can get it by using Custom Locale application which you can find with googling.
This will resolve your market problems. After rooting that rom, you can use Market Enabler to access paid and unavailable free applications through market.
I am not sure but, I believe you will get the OTA notifications after you root. And as you said you will loose root and etc. If you are already root why wait for an OTA. As soon as it is released or leaked you can install it.
It'll be the latest ROM for Vodafone Turkey but it's not unbranded. The latest unbranded ROM is 2.29.405.2
