Top ROMS!

I recently ROOT my EVO, so I want to know for those who has gone to varios ROMS what are the top 5 ROMS.
Me personally has ben looking for some Desire Z or Desire HD port, only for the Themes but don't know the names of the ROMS here, or or some Gingerbread ROMS but they are a lot of ROMS here, I;m comming from the HeroC...

Calkulin EVi0 2 best room (I just hate that animation color screen at boot) give me up to 12 hours of battery time.

im new too i just rooted my phone sunday i heard from some people that some roms and kernals are made for certain hardware. mines hardware 0004 is it true

If you want to fall in love with your EVO all over again, I HIGHLY recommend MIUI. It is hands down the best looking and best performing ROM out there.

Nope, it's AOSP so no 4G or HDMI.

I think you will fall in love with the Azreal rom. I have been running it for over a month now with no issues at all. Good luck finding a rom that you will like.

The best rom for the evo right now is the mikfroyo 4.4 hands down. In terms of speed and customized features it is my favorite of all and mik is already working on
V 4.5 so for u its time to start flashing and enjoying your powerhouse that is the evo the way u suppose to. Happy flashing and have fun!

+1 in the mikfroyi 4.4. Makes me appreciate sense widgets.

NEED TO TRY ROMS: DONT GO WITHOUT AT LEAST 3 HOURS ON THESE.
myn's warm twopointtwo: insane themeing. blows your mind and other parts (hehe). fast, stable, just very themed and very feature inclusive.
caulkin's evio 2: incredibly fast. this dude is amazing. you will find his 'usb/wifi tether hack, reboot mod, mms limit/compression mod's in almost every rom out there. slightly themed to not look as fugly as the htc version, very good battery, extreme speed, etc etc etc.
ava-froyo z3: this man is quite a coder. he goes deep inside the rom to alter things never touched by other devs, including radio, 4g, memory management, etc. its a hit and miss for some phones, but gets amazing results on others.
cyanogenmod: vanilla aosp, the biggest project on the xda. built on many different phones, huge team, incredible changes, its like a whole new phone. you wont get the same results or features from any other phone on the market. no hdmi (claims its almost done) and FINALLY 4G (in alpha 2 testing, the code for 4g had to be totally rewritten by two guys. thats probably the biggest feat in this phone's history)
miui: a crossover aosp rom that looks almost like the iphone but with the functionality and customizability of android +100. infinite amount of features. this isnt really built on anything... everything is different. a brand new operating system pretty much. worth a flash. some love it, some (like me) dont.

I am currently using this ROM [ROM(S)]CM7-EX.v9, its pretty neat, still has a few minor issues but it's usable and yeah its Gingerbread. No 4G or HDMI.

Well put. I will +1 you on the CyanogenMod. Great stable ROM with tons of customizability and features out of wazoo.
I would also put in a recomendation foe Fresh Evo ROM by Flipz. Maintains a familiar Sense UI but has some nice performance tweaks and removes all of the bloatware. Also has full HDMI and 4G support. Just another simple and user friendly option for custom ROM that does not get too radical.

I like all the responses here and how members try to help, especially the 8th grade kid, lol.
I for one won't flash a rom where any of the features of the phone won't work, despite the fact of the great work all of those guys are doing to bring gingerbread to us, I applaud all their hard work. Whatever rom u flash, make sure u do a full wipe so u can get a clean install, do a back up or nandroid before u start flashing and read, read, read and keep on reading, that's the most important thing, get acquainted with any issues or problems that may arise with the roms u gonna flash so u don't panick and go all monkey if the phone freezes or whatever the situation may be. Finally be ready for the storm, flashing is an addiction hard to control.

I know this has already been said but I just have to agree with Cyanogen. The stable build (6.1.2?) is incredibly nice with plenty to do. On the other hand, Cyanogen7 (i.e. nightlies) are a bit more finnicky (still a superb work in progress). I used the stable build until I had enough courage (newbie myself to android) to start trying the night builds. I really dont want to go back to anything else now, not even the stable. Getting excellent battery life (intermittent tho), great look, very customizable. Def worth a try, if anything

Depends on what you want our of your rom. I tried many, but heres my personal experience.
I went with miui for awhile. Loved the speed and uniqueness. In the end missed everything working perfect.
Went to azrael for awhile. Fastest sense rom in my opinion. Highly recommend if you like sense.
Since I don't like sense, but want stuff to be fully functional, I'm currently on vaelpak. Very fast, great on battery, and the vaelpak settings app makes it very easy to tune to your liking.

New User, advice on ROM?

Just got an EVO tonight, I would have liked to wait for 3D but I needed faster internet/phone asap since I started my new job.
I've been reading the forums, how to root, etc. the past couple of days, and am in the process of rooting. But there are just so many ROMs all which have there own pros/cons, so I was wondering if anyone had advice based on what I mainly want to use my phone for...
CM7 seems like the most popular, and I care mainly about stability, removing bloatware, and performance, care less about visual stuff. Plus it sounds like you can customize it with themes anyways.
But I've read threads where GPS/4G breaks which is what I care about the most.
I live in OC which has 4G, and that is the primary reason I upgraded from my old phone. 95% of the time this phone will be used for internet/games.
I was debating just going for a stock ROM, but not sure if benefits of a custom one outweighs stock ones.
Does anyone have advice on a stable ROM that improves performance and has little risk of breaking things like 4G? Or at least a few I can narrow down to?

Normally I would suggest MIUI, but since you need 4G either go with CM 7 or if you want to stick with a Sense based ROM I would suggest MikFroyo. Hope that helps and good luck with the new job.

If you want to keep your stock rom you can also just search root uninstaller on the market and get rid of any bloatware on the stock rom.

CM7 is the way to go friend...

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd get the CM7 suggestions. I'm assuming RC4 is the version I want?
The only issue I had was that I saw in the known issues that some people were experiencing problems with 4G/GPS, so I wasn't sure if that was a widespread issue or not.

cm7 is an awesome ROM, dont get me wrong... if its your first rom troubleshooting may be a hassle because until it becomes an official release there will be bugs to deal with.
my suggestion would be look in the development thread and try a simple sense based rom first and read its threads (or even cm7 for that matter) to see what people are reporting about it.

I switch between my own stock backup and CM7. CM7 is the way to go if you are looking for a different rom. It is basically stable. I have found nothing wrong with it.

MIKFROYO is great, but have been running Koni's Elite 111 with Honeycomb Dream theme for over a month...AWESOME...STABLE...FAST using netarchy 4.3.2 cfs sbc havs less

I was wondering this myself last week and what I found out is that once you see how easy it is to switch roms you'll be testing out a bunch of them and keep finding yourself returning to a particular one for one reason or another... and that's the one I stuck with. I ended up using Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo but I'm sure I'll be trying out a couple more today

Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5. It's fast, stable and everything works and it's very customizable like any other Android device.

lol I know right. Basically my old company was cool with everything as long as I got my work done so I never really needed to use internet on my phone as much. Have a good gaming rig at home and was always at my desk at work.
My new job is with at a larger corp. (like 3,000 people) and has way more rules and regulations. My boss doesn't care and always goes on his phone or reads the paper in his freetime, but it's a company rule. So I wanted something that I could go online with
Anyways, I rooted and installed CM7 last night, it was quite easy. I haven't had any problems but I did like certain things with the stock Sense UI better. Maybe I'll try some other ROMs suggested here since it was so easy.

I gotta agree that, I've use MIUI, CM6 (not 7), fresh, and researched but not used MikFroyo, and my favorite right now is Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5 w/o a doubt. It has everything you would want in a SENSE based ROM. Then, I'd also download the launcher pro that's right on that same thread, it adds a ton of additional customization that is great.

If you want a stock look but a bit faster and possibly better battery life check out Calkulins evio series 2 its on version 1.8,by far my favorite sense rom.
If you want aosp gb rom very stable really fast,gps works for me but with all gb aosp its different from user to user.Try salvage mod on version 1.1 though 1.2 is coming soon.
Both great roms.

I'm running the new CM7 Final, and I love it. I was using the nightlies and the RC's, and they were all great for a daily driver. Now CM7 Final is out? To me, this can't be beat.
It's fast, stable, has the features, and does everything I want. Let us know which one you decided to try out...

Best Evo Rom and Kernel bundle???

I will be flashing my first rom and kernel to my Evo, Im just wondering others experience and whats a good fast and stable rom as well as what kernel to add on?? Any input is great,,

I would argue that it is personal preference. I went through alot of different
Setups. I settled on mikg 2.58 latest sense with aggressive freedom kernel universal.
I am in extreme rural area so I was very picky on battery life. My cell radio is constantly
Boosting its own voltages to get better reception, so i was looking for the absolute best battery life from a ROM. I also am a sense fanboy regardless of critics, b/c the EVO was made for that very reason.
Things to consider...are you in the city? If so most of.the popular stuff will be fine for battery.
Are you a modder, hacker personality. If so spend some time backing up through titanium and and Google sync. So you can test all the ROM.kernels without losing your phone,phone.
If not then look for stability. It is vital to learn about the gereneral process b4 getting started so you don't have a lot of issues.

Some myths. Every single ROM has a random knucklehead saying its the best battery stability they have ever seen. Don't believe it. They all have strengths and weakness. Further, go for setcpu root and learn it. It's the best and will allow any ROM to be better.
Longwinded, I know. But cm7.cm9 if you like plain vanilla based aosp rom. Mikg if you like sense based rom. Kernel chopsuey or more/aggressive freedom kernel are the best for.battery in my opinion.

I agree with gentlye! This is very much a personal preference. You will most likely spend many days figuring it all out and testing several different setups. One of the first things to figure out is if you want a "Sense" ROM or an "AOSP" ROM. Before getting started with anything though be sure that you know how to make a "nandroid" backup and use it. That will ultimately save you some time and frustration and potential disaster.
I personally am a huge fan of the "gingerbread-evo-deck" ROMs which are AOSP based. My current setup is with "gingerbread-evo-deck [1.3][2.3.7 Stable]" ROM and "Tiamat_Evo-v3.3.7-sbc" Kernel. This setup is very stable, fast, and has great battery life for me. It is a pretty popular setup and most users seem to have good success with it. I highly doubt that I will be changing my ROM again.
Just be sure to do your research and nandroids and all will be fine. Good luck!

I have never heard of that. Once rooted you should be able to flash any ROM you want from recovery I think. And, as long as you have a nandroid backup it is super easy to go back to a previous setup if you don't like the results.

I would have to say Newtoroot's SuperSonic3D XL Beta and Aggresive-Freedom kernel.

Yeah im somewhat new,, at least to evos i was just asking cuz i looked up how to root it and it something about that i just wanted to make sure

I prefer launcher pro so therefore don't care for sense based ROMs. There is a user at SDX named DC13 who makes ROMs. He posts his ROMs here sometimes as well. Anyway, he has a ROM based off of the old CM7. I used that ROM with savaged zen's kernel and my phone ran GREAT. Battery life was outstanding and performance was good. I can't say enough good things about that ROM. I switched to the new CM7 a week or so ago and am considering goimg back because the battery life is noticeably not as good. I am still testing though.

Blazer ROM Vs. FreeGS3 ROM

I have been using FreeGS3 ROM from Clark44 for the last few weeks and I love it. I started at .0.6 and been updating ever since. Clark44 is constantly working on this ROM so you know it will always be up to date and he is always open resolving any issues with the ROM. The first ROM I flashed was Blazer ROM from PhantomHacker and that was also a great ROM. Ive only tried v1.5. I was wondering your guys opinion on the two ROMs and how they differ if they do. battery life. speed and such.

I have both roms waiting for me when i get home from work. I will definitely give them both a test drive and will report back. I just got this phone so I'm definitely loving touchwiz so I'm glad both those roms have touchwiz with some tweaks.

No slight to any other dev, ...but right now, Freegs3 is class of the field.

FreeGS3 is clearly the best ROM out right now. No other Dev is doing what Clark44 is doing. Updates regularly. Installing stuff on ROM no one else has. FreeGS3 is in it's own class.

Blazer ROM, Best battery life of any ROM and very smooth and stable.

Both are excellent roms! I personally nandroid restore back and forth between the two. It's like Christmas in August

Team sonic is the way to go...I feel the guy from blazer rom,,would make better use of his time working with clark44...after all there both tring to get preformance and battery life...2 heads are better than one

I've always been a fan of Phantom and Blazer Rom since the Epic Touch days.....although I admit he just hits my personal sweet spot with the features he includes....I like Clark's rom too....I kind of don't like the Aroma feature though. It's cool, but for an extra 200MB when I have to download my roms at work?
Anyway, I'd give Blazer's 1.7 a chance. I like Clark's a lot too but to me Blazer seems a little more polished.

blazer 1.7 is superfast. No lag, battery last almost 2 days

Just flashed FreeGS3 v.0.0.9 its so sweet....

I started with Blazer 1.5. So far its been great up until the latest 1.7 update. It broke a lot of things even AFTER being released with a 100% chance of bootloop. No idea how that got past him and the testers. Ill try FGS3 and see how it goes.
On a different note, it pains me to see so many people asking tiring, old or silly questions about their phone (it sounds like half these people this is their first phone). How much faster and cleaner would threads be without every day someone asking a question that can be easily asked in Q&A or using Search/Google or reading the OP. I hope our GS3 userbase matures a little bit faster.

Pro-Con? Cyanogen?

As forum regular, you'll always encounter that from those of us who don't come here often. The fact is, stuff is hard to find from scratch because people don't always title their posts for clarity, major issues are discussed via thread-creep, and the search engine just doesn't deliver.
I looked today for a concise, simple pro-con comparing some of these ROMs to each other and to stock, and I didn't find one. I imagine the topic's been discussed in bits and pieces within multiple within threads here, but I couldn't find it in 10 minutes via search. Unless you're a regular reader, stuff is just hard to find quickly.
On the general topic, what's the consensus about Cyanogen 9? I ran C-7 on my GX2 and really liked the extensive customizations and features. I've seen lots of vague posts about the pros of C-9 on GS3, but no one's done even a basic con piece that I can find. It DOES look like the C-9 ROM has a very basic camera app with significantly fewer features than the stock ROM. What else do you lose with Cyanogen?
It looks to this non-expert like the ROMs you're debating here are relatively minor tweaks of stock ROM, while C-9 is an entirely different animal. I'm not such a hobbyist that I'm likely to flash a ROM for cooler animations, quicker transitions, or better menu transparencies. I see anecdotal claims that battery life is improved. How much better is it? Anyone tested it? What real functionality do you gain with these ROMs vs stock? What do you lose? I watched a video or two, and I remain unmoved.

It looks like you've been lurking here for a while. I can't really answer your CM9 question because I haven't tried it because, well, CM10 is actually very stable. I can't give you exact battery stats, but it can go for longer than twelve hours with a few hours screen time for me. You lose a lot of Touchwiz motion features compared to stock, but you get smoother animations and Google Now and just plain stock Android. You do lose a lot of extra camera features but the camera is fully functional.

I've been reading up on both, trying to figure out which one to flash on my phone. Am I right in thinking that FreeGS3 is more feature-filled with mods (like the custom notification toggles and Google Now), while Blazer is closer to stock?
Has anyone written (or YouTubed) a good comparison of the two?

Running blazers 1.7 rom. Seems kind of fast. What's the whole thing about "jelly bean" The anjmstions? I is that suppose to be like project butters improved frame rate? Sorry for my noobness.

Personally I prefer clarks. Why not just take it for a test drive, try it out for a few days and see what kind of mileage you get

[Q] Whats the Difference?

I have tried a lot of different rom's including aosp roms and touchwiz roms. It seems most of them look and feel the same and I am not putting down any roms not saying there bad. The aosp rom feel the same to me and same with touchwiz.. Again I love rooting and flashing roms and my favorite is hyperdrive rom been using it since I got my gs3..

The differences are whatever mods the Devs have added to their Roms. Usually the Dev will add features that he/she wants or needs to make that ROM suited to them and we benefit from said addons.
I find your question slightly funny though. "They look and feel the same yet Hyperdrive is my favorite" if there were no differences you'd be running bone stock and it would be your favorite.
I know you didn't mean anything by it I'm just throwing that out there.

I thought about that after I added the hyperdrive rom...lol They just all feel the same I just like how hd is laid out ..

Call me crazy, but ever since I followed Blinds old MIUI builds, I think it was in the HTC Inspire, I've been in love.
I had run MIUI in the past on prior devices, but MIUI was still in its infancy then. By MIUI V4, I was hooked. I could care less about the snide remarks about how similar to iOS it is. The functionality MIUI provides was always a step ahead, for me, than everything else out there. That's not the case anymore, but I still love all the little things MIUI puts into the UI. Even the screw-ups that have always existed.
I never have the music player display lyrics, but if I'm bored I turn it on from time to time and get a good chuckle out of the results. I was listening to Angel by Aerosmith the other day and it was displaying Sarah Mclahlan. :banghead:
