[Q] How to install MotoGinger 2.3.4 :( - Defy General

Hi Guys,
I could not install the Rom MotoGinger 2.3.4 Can some one please guide me with proper steps? I have installed froyo and its rooted, Also installed the 2init.
I didnt understand the 2nd step steps, When exactly should I install the nandroid-backup and after installation why should I wipe? Please can someone help me out?
- Starting installation with any original froyo 2.2.2 (rooted)
- Install original 451-134 in "normal way"---> nandroid-backup (thx to walter79)
1. wipe via CWM
2. advanced restore (system/only)
3. flash fixed-sbf
4. wipe via stock recovery, then reboot.
----> DOWNLOAD
- From market download and install defy 2nd init
- Choose latest recovery (cwm 4.0.0.6)
- Download MotoGinger.zip and copy in microsd
- Enter in recovery, wipe/data and install motoginger as a zip file, then reboot!
- To return to any froyo rom, you just flash with rsd lite in the usual way! Before the flash, i suggest wipe/data and cache from recovery!

I did it in the following way:
Recieved my phone with 2.1, booted the phone and rooted the phone.
Installed Clockwork Mod recovery.
Booted in clockworkmod recovery.
Made a nandroid of my current device.
Restored nandroid of my choice 2.3.4
Cleared cache and factory reset.
Booted into Flash mode
flashed fixed SBF
booted phone.

I did "wipe data/factory" and wipe cache partition then installed the motoginger and when i reboot it takes me to the boot menu then i selcted boot->2nd-init and it again boots to the boot menu and if i select boot->normal the screen hust goes blank and nothing happens.

looks like 2nd-init is acting weird..make sure ur 2nd-init is 0.6.1..and entering bootmenu check whether cmw is 4.0.0.6..

Yes I have installed 2nd-init 0.6.1 and when I go to custom recovery I see the version 2.5.1.8 at the top.. BTW are you using that rom still? howz the battery life?

Oh.. boy.. finally I got it.. shadow4.5.1-134rootednandroid.zip is not a nandroid backup but it has system.img which I must restore it..
@arpith.fbi Thank you for your support..

well motoginger-4.zip is another way to install the ROM through custom recovery...no restoring no flashing in required..supposed to be an easy way to install a ROM..
720p patch is only for red lens defy..it wont work on green lens..again u have to install the patch through custom recovery..

I solved the problem by myself.
The reason was that i tried to apply motoginger-4.zip with
goapk custom recovery because it seemed to work!!
I got a success message!
Finaly i installed 2ndInit and latest recovery and used it.
Finally everything worked.
My only problem that i can not switch off the lock screen in security menü as in 2.2.2 worked fine.

[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for Galaxy S i9000 (FINAL! SAFE!)

First things first, if you flashed a previous version of Clockwork Recovery using Odin, FLASH BACK TO A STOCK KERNEL. (There's another link in the forum to do this, I can't find it at the moment)
This recovery is *very* safe to use. It does NOT flash your kernel; it is a completely uninvasive recovery method.
How it works: The recovery is packaged as an update.zip that you run from STOCK recovery. The update.zip unpacks Clockwork Recovery onto the ramdisk and restarts recovery. When you reboot, it reverts back to the original, unmodified, stock recovery. So, you will need to keep the recovery on the root of your SD card as an update.zip, and apply the zip every time you want to start Clockwork.
HOWEVER, if you use ROM Manager, all of the recovery installation and management are done for you!
Installation instructions:
Download ROM Manager from the Market.
Flash Recovery.
Choose Galaxy S i9000 as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
Use ROM Manager to create a Backup.
On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
Watch the backup go!
That's it! This is completely painless and safe! There is no need for Odin anymore to replace the recovery or flash updates!
If you appreciate my work, please buy the Premium version of ROM Manager!
If you can't seem to get ROM Manager off the market, you can get it from my homepage:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html
Just installed! Working great!
Installed with ROM manager. Works like a charm! Thanx alot Koush!
works fine
works like a charm
Installed, everything working without problems.
To install roms with clockwork we need roms in *.zip format? Where to get them?

thank you and thanks all Xda devs and members
hmm ... I know this might sound stupid but, acually GSG is my first android phone, though I know how to flash roms with odin and how to apply update.zip and all that but what is the difference between this and ClockworkMod Recovery ?? and does it use the same components as odin ? (I mean CODE, CSC, MODEM and Pit) ?
Stickied. Closing the other one. Not sure why you would start a new thread instead of modifying the old one though...
Thanks Koush your the man. Coming from a htc magic I hate this odin bull
Hmm... did every step and in the first reboot, after using rom manager to create a backup, it was supposed to go to the cloclworkmod recovery screen as mentioned, but instead it goes to the regular recovery screen.
Bug? I'm using the JM1 FW
EDIT: After rebooting my phone and trying to open ROM Manager again, I have some sort of "Recovery Failure" screen with 3 options:
- Recovery mode is broken.
- ROM Manager doesn't reboot.
- Other.

Do you already have an update.zip on your internal sdcard? If yes, rename it, and then should boot just fine!

Ahhh... I guess I'm not very used to this "Internal SD Card" thing... there was the update.zip I used to root the phone there and I only checked my regular External SD.
Everything is fine now, sorry for bothering.

I had the same issue. Must have been the update.zip, but I didnt remove it, just pressed the other option, went into manual recovery mode, rebooted went into rom manager and backed up my files. Worked a charm
Does this mean there will be no more work on a permanent recovery solution?
I have the Korean version M110S - and it does not have the standard recovery (it is crippled - no apply:update.zip). Is there and abd command to "apply update.zip" ?
May I ask if this work for me using mimocan ext4 fix on the backup/restore?
This may sound stupid, but I'm kinda new to Android modding (SGS is my first droid, moving here from WiMo on SE-X1) and.... What is Clockwork?
So if I ever needed to send this phone in for warranty purposes, I could just flash the backup of my stock ROM in and I should be good to go?
does this method works for captivate and vibrant???
edit: just install/ captivate and vibrant option available.

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery Question

Just installed the latest version of ROM Manager to flash CM7.1 on my Defy.
When I try to install ClockworkMod Recovery & chose 'Defy' as my phone model it says "Defy doesn't have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a CLockworkMod based recovery manually?" The options offered are Yes/No...which I haven't
What do I do next? First time @ this...The flashing CM7.1 videos on youtube seem to be simple...its the forums that confuse the hell out my head.
Please help!
As I remember, CM7 has its 2nd-init Recovery bundled.
You need not install another...
Please check it on CM7.1.
U need to install "defy 2nd init" from the market ....then open it and touch install and choose stable option and after it downloads and finishes, then reboot twice ,then go to Rom manager and install roms

@akstechscience: I did what you said and restarted my phone twice. now when I try to download roms from rom manager it asks me which version of clock work mod has been installed version 2 or 3?
What do I do?

I simply chose that I have ClockWorkMod ver 2.xx installed & then tried to backup my current ROM by choosing "Backup current ROM"....then Defy booted into recovery where nothing happened...i could see the Android Robot with an 'exclamation mark' "!" over its head.
What am I doing wrong? Very desperate to install CM7.1...
I think you need to check first your CWM is properly working before trying ROM Manager. Have you root your phone in the first place now?
The stable 2nd-init for my Defy running gingerbread is SndInitDefy_1.9. Find this, download and install. Launching the app then will ask you to install CWM.
After confirming 2nd-init working, then you can proceed with flashing CM7 via CWM.

Yes I rooted my Defy successfully a few days back. I even installed SETCPU, setvsel & other apps that require your phone to be rooted.
I installed Defy2nd Init from here, it is version 1.9 as you say.
After installing stable version of 2nd init, I turned off USB debugging & reboot...I see a new boot menu with a few options there. I chose default boot...After android OS starts up I try to flash CMod recovery from ROM Manager ...it again asks me the same question of version 2.xx or 3.xxx
Please Help!
Im no expert and am infact quite a noob to all this flashing business but from what I understand you dont flash the ROM via ROM Manager. You need to follow the install instructions on the forum.
It will tell you about creating wiping data/factory, wipe cache, and installing the ROM from your SD card
This is all done in the recovery menu and not ROM manager.
see this INSTALL THREAD or try THIS INSTALL THREAD
The latter one is the guide I used and it all worked perfectly.
There are other handy NOVICE GUIDES here too
Good luck
Yeah try the above mentioned method if the Rom manager is not working....its not that tough

[Q] Help with ISC for my Arc

Hi Guys,
Sorry to be such a noob, but i really need some help...
I have tried flashing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717
using the Xperia version of CWM recovery, follwing the instructions on screen t the letter, i still cannot get this to work. Can someone please shed some light on my problem???
I have no issues with re-flashing 2.3.4 again, phone is rooted with unlocked bootloader, flashed on 4.0.2.A..0.42/.62 and still only end up with a non working ICS, please help
If you're trying to flash this rom from gingerbread you'll end up with troubles. Flash first a stock ics with flashtools /pc companyon /seus and then you can flash this one.

Started from gingerbread too.
Hy, i have also upgraded from Gingerbread and i have had some issues with some Roms. But now it`s done and working like a charm. Here are the stept i folowed :
1. Unlock bootloader.
2. Check baseband (mine was 64, so no more stept necesary for performing step 3)
3. Flash kernel via fastboot (cmd command on android sdk/platform tools, with v4 usb drivers), Doom Kernel (1.6GHz) ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img
4. Flashed multiple Roms, but the best, for me is JJHybrid Rom v2.2
5. Flashed ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-v04-modules_CWM.zip (WIFI module)
6. Flashed GAPS
When flashing Rom i have notice that not everibody tells all the procedure :
- Boot in flash mode (Press Back key when blue led light on)
- Perform a wipe
- Perform a reset
- advanced/ wipe dalvik cache
- mount and root/ format /system
- install from zip, first rom, then modules.
Hope that you can find sommething you missed (probably the format /system) and my answer helped you !

[Q] [ARC S] getting bootloop after successfull install of "ultimate hd 4.0"

hi
this is the first time i am trying to install a custom rom. after reading a lot i never tried to actualy modify my arc s, but today was the day!
i tried with this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207
now i have some specific questions to find out why i am getting a bootloop (screen gets black and shows "SONY" over and over again).
right now i am on stock rom and kernel again: model: LT18i / android 4.0.4 / kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 / build 4.1.B.0.587
i followed the how-to in the thread in every step besides one: "For Locked Bootloaders: Root your phone using this tutorial, than install CWM using this app" i did not use the linked tutorial because at first i just wanted root and found this "one click" method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711
this method worked for me and i already was able to use superuser. having a working superuser app i decided to go on with the tutorial and used x-parts to install CWM.
after that i did everything like in the how-to, going through the aroma installer, successfully installed the rom, reboot through the recovery menu -> bootloop.
after many hours and tries i decided to open a thread and hope that someone can help me to solve my problem.
thanks!
EDIT: about the bootloader. on my device it says "bootloader unlock allowed: yes" and the number that is mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375463 for me is 12W20
can i unlock the bootloader or not? i am realy confused with everything right now...

Yes, you can still unlock the bootloader, by using the official method at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com.
thanks for your reply. in the roms thread it says that it can be installed with locked bootloader.
i have root and superuser works. next i used this: (imagine a link to google play x-parts :laugh to install cwm and then i continued with the how-to as it says:
...
Place ROM on SD-Card
Back up user apps and data. (Various apps available, search Google Play. This is a popular one)
Power off phone.
Boot to CWM (Keep pressing the Volume Down key after the Sony logo appears)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Mounts and Storage --> Format /System
Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats
Install zip from SD card > Choose Xperia Ultimate HD
Follow on screen instructions on AROMA.
After Complete Installation untick "reboot" and select reboot in CWM
any idea why i get a bootloop after installing the rom? oh...and i still don't get it how to start my phone directly in cwm recovery. i tried to push or hold different buttons. right now i saw the recovery menu only because i chose to reboot to recovery in the x-parts app. sorry, if similar questions have been already asked, but i don't get it
EDIT: is the kernel and/or stock rom a problem maybe? can i install the custom rom starting from: model: LT18i / android 4.0.4 / kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 / build 4.1.B.0.587?
Did you flash this? I never tried install any kernel or ROM on locked bootloader, so my phone is unlocked. I read this tutorial and i succesfully installed this ROM on my ARC without bootloop. BTW i using LuPuS v16 kernel, not vengeance...

You can use the Flashtool Version 0.9.11.0 [Thanks to Androxyde :good:]
There are things in this application. Include: Root device, Bootloader Unlock, Flash kernel and Flash ROM.
By fastboot mode in Flashtool you can install any kernel and after turn on your device using CWM and install any ROM.
In here you can find many ROMs and Kernels [Thanks to Xerxin :good:]

Problem with installing ROM. (newb)

Hey guys!
First sorry if this is wrong subforum, or there is an anserw for my problem. I spent about 5 hours on trying to do this.
Firstly I'm a noob in this subject.
I want to flash rom X - Gamer or True Smooth. ( are they any good?)
And I flashed generic .62 on my phone (Xperia Arc ) but I don't know what to do next.
I tried doing all those drivers, CWM, kernel things but I'm just lost now.
I can't learn all the things in one day..
Can someone give me links to best versions of things I need and say step by step how to do it? (or link to good toutorial)
Thank you so much for any help guys!
~ J
you need first flash kernel, then you must open cwm and set your zip file of rom from your sd card
So I need to paste it on SD card in zip? K.
When I'm trying to flash it in fastboot mode that appears "ERROR - This action can only be done in fastboot mode"
Do you have unlocked bootloader?
You have to place the ROM .zip file on the SDcard.
Depending on the bootloader status, you have to either install custom kernel for CWM Recovery or install one in system partition, latter being more riskier.

Yup I've gott my bootlader unlocked.
So what next after placing .zip file on SD?
"- Copy ROM setup file to SD card
- Enter CWM and choose the setup file
- Follow instruction in AROMA installer, customize the ROM as you like and click Install. NOTICE: in Extra section, unchecked item means you don't like it to install with this ROM, so it will be removed if it's already existed (in case you re-install the ROM)"
These are isntructions, so how do I intall CWM correctly?
Phone is rooted, I've got recoveyx on it and i installed CWM for GB. But I can't acces recovery mode. I spammed back button, volume down, hold it..
Please help..
If you have unlocked bootloader, get custom kernel for GB (LuPuS or DooMKernel), flash it in fastboot mode, get into the recovery, factory reset, wipe /system and then install zip from sdcard and choose the ROM zip.
Having unlocked bootloader and then rooting phone, installing CWM via an app is useless, time-wasting and caused many issues.
Okay I'm lost again.. I flashed Lupus and my phone didn't want to start. Blue led flashed but screen was still black..
now I've got android version 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.62) generic.
Bootloader is unlocked (100% sure)
Which kernel should I choose to make this work?
Sorry I'm so nooby in this subject
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
K I kindof sorted everything. Thx for help!
