[Q] Help me with my Evo,Please!!!!!!!!!!!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
The purpose of this thread is to seek assistance with what has become a major issue.I have a rooted EVO 4g device(for several months) and I am not sure as to how it exactly happened but my phone now complete commands by itself. For example when in typing screen,it automatically starts writing letters, when I try to erase them they repeatedly come back.It will not let me complete many commands before taking over and clicking random selections.
**Things I have tried to remedy the problem include clear cache, data several times, install other roms(same problems with Cynagogen 7, syngergy and MIUI).
Powering off and powering back on.
Nothing seems to work and I would greatly appreciate it, as i am extremely close to unrooting and going back to the old fashion way.
What should I do?
Please help
Albert

Are you using the stock keyboard? or is this on a 3rd party keyboard?

Sounds like the touch screen is going bad to me. Does it also randomly open aps? Or is it just when you are typing?

wow! Incredible response time. I have tried several keyboards as well, stock, swift keyboard and the one that comes preloaded with cynagogen 7.

Are you having issues with response times any other times you touch the screen? Could be your digitizer going bad?

It's been a slow day at work.
Sounds like you've covered your bases pretty well. I'm still thinking it's a HW problem. There are intructions out there on how to replace the screens. You can buy replacements on eBay.

issues with response time, such as not responding, clicking above and below the area I touch and not responding to the area I touched.

Curious, do you know how much a screen cost? Nothing else that can be done prior to this? excuse my ignorance.

I've seen anywhere between $11 and $28.

Call a priest, rabbi monk or other clergyman because your phone is possessed by a demon!
Actually, it sounds like a hardware problem. My wife's touchscreen android phone had a similar problem..it was hardware related

Its a a touch screen lcd Digitizer, pretty much the cover. Some ppl have replaced em when their screen cracks or scratches. You might want to unroot and take into store and see if they will replace.

Thanks, a milliion times for your feedback. I actually looked it up after asking impulsively. I was thinking about taking it to sprint, but because I had such a difficult time getting my evo rooted in the first place. wanted to rule out all other options before going that route.

Does anyone have an updated version of the unroot process?

Go to unrevoked's site and download the s-on tool, then flash that in recovery. Then download the newest RUU available. You can download it in .exe form to run from your computer or as a zip to flash through the bootloader. If you decide to go the zip route, rename it to PC36IMG.zip (don't add a zip, it's already there) and put it on the root of your SD card. Boot into the bootloader (vol down + power) and when it asks you to update select yes with the volume up button.
I wouldn't flash the s-on tool though, and would just run an RUU. If you used unrevoked or unrevoked forever during your root process then you'll keep s-off. They should still fix it as long as you're back to stock otherwise. That way if the tech gets the crazy idea to update your phone you can still get root back. If they replace it then maybe someone will get your s-off device

I had this issue, gave the bare screen a nice cleaning with an glass cleaning wipe and changed screen protectors and the issue never came back.
If you have a screen protector on, check this route first. If not, then digitizer it is.

I wouldn't unroot, just flash a stock, rooted ROM. I doubt they're going to look at your Hboot or anything. This way, if they get jumpy and update for you, you'll still be S-Off.

Bright White Screen of Death?

My new replacement Dash, less than a month old, has a blank white screen. (See attached) The phone otherwise works perfectly, and is fully functional when the screen is echoed to the desktop with My Mobiler. (also attached).
I have been running Kavana's 80314 overclocked happily for 5 or 6 days now, and everything was functional, fast and stable. After just using it for a call, I pulled it back out of my pocket and found the screeen blanked-for-good. Any ideas?

Have you tried reflashing it ? This was an issue with an older Kavana ROM.
No, but I will. Back in a minute or two.
I have re-flashed with 80314, 80318, and the Kavana/Ricky; no easy task with no screen! Problem continues consistently.
so: the screen stays white through
soft reset
hard reset
sprite restore
attempts at entering bootloader mode
entire process of ROM flash.
Anyone have more ideas, or links to other threads on a fix?
If a ROM flash is going to cause bricking days after the fact, I can't recommend it, to say the least.
However, I may have an insight into the common 270 error. Anytime I allowed autolock.exe to lock the keys, the ROMs would appear to be corrupted. Will post on that thread.

Be thankful your phone isn't injured like mine. After flashing to Kavana's latest ROM, installing my programs, receiving my 8GB SDHC card, and watching a few movies stored on that card, I dropped my phone (on a soft carpet) and screwed up the LCD. You would think that after surving 10 or so concrete and hard surface hits, that carpet would be no opponent. I guess I should edit my signature.
Maybe now I have an excuse to get the AT&T Tilt.......

Sorry Mikey but the Tilt has a MicroSD slot I am still debating whether to part it out or replace the screen and use it as a backup phone. I sure would miss it. Thanks to this community I have come to love my Dash!

Unfortunately, if that is the problem, I still can't get it to stop. I've tried turning the JOGGR back on (which I normally have off), and fiddling with the lowlight options, as well as experimenting with the tasks and processes in Celetask. No luck there, either. Still white.
I am afraid to replace the unit and have the same thing happen again if I go with WM 6.1
So far, I'm limited to sticking my SIM in a beater T722i a friend loaned me. It hurts, oh, it hurts!
Wrap Up
T-Mobile has decided that the sim died, and took my phone with it, so they replaced both no charge (except shipping). Who am I to argue with that?

Did you check to make sure that the connectors are all correct, try to reopen it and check it out... if ask for an exchange from the ebay seller. I believe that there is a policy and especially if you paid with paypal try going through there and say the item is defective.

Dead GPU?

Hi,
My phone it's not working anymore...
I just re-installed the original software using SEUS (Sony Update Service), everything went OK but the phone it's still not working.
First I get the "SONY ERICSSON" screen and after that the phone boots to this screen:

}
The phone seems to be working as Windows 7 recognizes it and If I turn the volume up you can hear it... but display on Android it's not working.
"SONY ERICSSON" screen looks OK without disorted graphics.
The phone have solution? No?
Flashtool might be able to help?
Best Regards.

I have seen replacements screens on ebay for around $40... might be something worth looking into. I have repaired 2 xplay phones and they are relatively easy to disassemble.... and if yo uare unsure there are tutorials on this forum that show details on how to do this... step by step

I dont think its the screen if he gets the Sony logo its likely the motherboard.
My Motorola Droid did this once I smacked it against a table and it worked again. Likely a motherboard problem there as well but i was getting rid of it anyway.
Yes, I get showed the "SONY ERICSSON" logo correctly.
But adter it enters Android UI, its just that corrupted graphics...
Do you think Flashtool would help? Maybe it has the wrong kernel flashed... dunno.

But this is a new problem.
I think it's supposedly from a loose cable for screen output or something. Apparently some people have it happen by sliding out the game-pad too much and it knocks the cable loose. Mind you I have not personally had this happen, it's just speculation

Xperia PLAY flex cable it's very cheap...
I have no problem in replacing it...
But... if it is the flex... how do you explain that I can see the SE logo? -->
I am not saying that you are worng, just that I know little and this wouldn't make sense...
Also, it does not make sense that if the graphic chipset is burned, Android boot's normally...

UPDATE: I confirmed and the phone also receives PHONE CALLS.

Or the motherboard needs a reflow?

I dont think it need a reflow. If it did nothing would work.
You have flashed back to stock right? Did you try a second time with a different rom? Try flashing back using wotan server
Thanks for your answer...
I tried using Sony Update service... and also got the messed up screen.
Then I dwonloaded R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62__1253-4437_.ftf and flashed it using Flashtool... sadly I got the very same results. Phone works but it shows that messed screen.
I can try Wotanserver... but I would need to pay, right?
Also, I would appreciate if someone could guide me to enable "USB Debuging"; as it's very hard to do it without seeing the screen (digitizer works as I can unlock screen and pick up a call).
With ADB enabled I might be able to check (using Screencast) if the GPU is working properly.
I am also thinking it could be an LCD problem...
UPDATE: Wotan Server it's FREE... flashed with latest firmware but sadly I got the same results... AGAIN.
Problem seems to be hardware, not software... so is it flex? lcd? motherboard?

No, I can't see boot animation.
I just see SE logo and then nothing. Afer that if I press pwr/lock button it shows the mosaic/pixelated screen...
Can someone "guide" me thru the UI to enable ADB? I know how to do it, but I can't remember the exact location of the menus to do it blindly.
With ADB enabled I may be able to run diagnostic on the phone and see if I can find the problem.
Also, about the internal ROM beeing messed... it could be... but then why I am able to flash any rom properly and without any error? Also the phone boots, etc.
Best Regards.

HTC One X's part of touch screen not working at all

I brought my HOX about a month ago, no issues at all after updating to 1.28, no built issues zero software issues, it was perfect.
But today morning i installed a game and tried to touch the menu bar(the vertical bar with 3 dots just above capacitive buttons) and it does not work.
Not only in the game but everywhere you try to touch that area nothing happens.
This problem is not only limited to the menu bar, but also till very slightly above it.
The 1.29.7 update for asia just came out, i thught this would fix it but it didnt.
Tried to factory reset but still doesnt works.
Is this a hardware problem? Should i take to htc?
And do you think i will get a replacement or a repair job done?
Also, i have never dropped the phone even once, it was aways in soft silicon case away from any rough use. In fact, it has hardly been used.
Thanks
I would send it right back to HTC for a replacement.
Exchange it. I had a simular problem with mine but it was the top of the screen that stoped working. In the end I had to get a exchange.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Same problem here, but I've unlocked mine voiding my warranty : (
Defo not fixed with firmware updates as I had the same issue with my first one and had to return it for an exchange
had the same problem and gone for a replacement. I have tried many things with the guidance of HTC support center none worked.
same problem here
took it back to shop where it was purchased from, it took over 6 weeks for repair centre to return it.
just got it back today and the problems are still there
im sooo unhappy with this phone.
ive emailed HTC and waiting on a response.

I am expireincing the exact same problem, except the non working part of digitizer is just above the middle of the screen. Is flashing a new ROM would fix it? I think i have nothing to loose, since i cannot send my phone to AT&T because i bought it used on ebay and i live in Canada. I guess it could be 50% chances ROM issue, my old Sensation was having a speaker issue, witch was playing very weak, i sent it to HTC and they flashed a new ROM, it got is spaeker fixed.
I too had this problem although it was intermittent. Sent my HOX to be repaired on Thursday, waiting to hear back.

Getting a One X, should I update it?

So tomorrow I have a HTC One X being delivered
Super-excited, but I have one question - should I update it when I get it or leave 'as is'. Reason being as I don't want to prevent any possibility of being able to put CFW on the device. Give or take a few weeks I'll probably jump off Sense and go for Cyanogen or something.
I know this a very noob question - it's just I'm not familiar with this particular device - rather the Xperia Play and Wildfire
Also, any things I should know?
Thanks!

You can update it, it should'nt do any difference. But remember you can be charged for repairs from htc if you do. I did, they changed the motherboard but I still got it for free.
You could wait for s-off. _If_ they manage to crack the damn thing, you won't loose the warrany because the bootloader is still locked.
Must still must say that sense is really good, and the 2.05 coming soon is superb, and so far I havent rooted again yet.
Hope it helps you decide.
Don’t unlock it right away, because like Sckank said you’ll loose warranty. There are some common hardware issues with the phone (i.e WiFi antenna problems), look in the general section to find out more, so wait a while and test everything out before you attempt it, or better yet wait for S-OFF (which is what I’m doing).

hi,
became confused... :S
if was possible to make s-off you don't lose the warranty?
i know that you can reverted to s-on again ...but they will notice or not?
the bootloader can be relocked or isn't the same thing?
Nope if they can s-off then s-on is no problem and you're completely back to stock. And you don't have to agree to that you loose your warrany. And they can't see that.
Nope not the same thing, they will see that. It will say "relocked", not locked.
when you unlock without s-off, you need to pass through htc-dev, which will make it record your unlock status. and also, when you relock your bootloader, it will display "Re-Locked Bootloader" instead of :Locked Bootloader". With s-off, none of them will change.
EDIT : beaten. haha.
Still, a more complete answer about htc dev
thanks to both
Thanks guys!
I'll go ahead and update for now then.
I got my new phone this morning, unfortunately it has some nasty 'backlight leak' along the bottom of the screen so O2 are getting a replacement out to me tomorrow. It's a gorgeous phone, just hoping the replacement doesn't suffer the same problem...
It's pretty minor and I'm perhaps a little OCD but I showed someone else and they were like "it's all wavy "

I think it generally affects white and brighter backgrounds. I thought it might be 'normal' when I found various threads about 'stagelight' backlight leak, though this was after I'd given O2 a quick ring. Can't cancel the replacement now, just hope it's not a refurb replacement.
Not *too* bothered about it... it seems to have lessened since I first booted it up oddly.
All being said, I would consider this to be a defect really - the only time I've seen 'stagelight' bleed like this was after I had a smartphone go through the wash. HTC need to improve the manufacturing process considering the cost of these handsets near half a grand.

Vibration sounds "loose"

This just started yesterday, US unlocked model. Never dropped it either. All of a sudden, the vibration when clicking buttons, typing, etc, sounds loose and there is an audible "click" sound (not touch sound click) accompanying it. Anyone else have this happen? Unlocked, S-Off, rooted. I may have to send it in, just wondering if anyone else has it.
Looks like no one else, makes me think it's definitely hardware related, guess it's replacement/repair time.
Got the replacement all set up, this is the first htc phone I've had to send back. I kept looking through the threads about the right process for this - go back to s-on, then relock bootloader, and then run the ruu. I think that is the correct order, correct?

Yes, you may need sunshine to make it S-OFF LOCKED, then go back to S-ON LOCKED, then flash the RUU, there you go.
Cool, thank you.

Honestly I have always felt like HTC phones have had somewhat of a loose vibration feeling, compared to say a samsung or iphone, where its basically the opposite.
Yea, it's not very strong, but it is definitely different than it was last week. Something came loose inside.

Ummm my Sprint variant just started to do this. I have the profile widget on the left side of screen and when I toggle vibrate mode it sounds "loose" or rattling. Now it doesn't do this all the time, but its there. I have also noticed it when typing a text. So you took yours back? I'm already on my 2nd 10 as the first one drained 3% battery every couple minutes straight out of the box. I'm way passed the 14 day mark at Sprint and would prob get a refurb anyways.
I bought mine from HTC so I had to send it in and they are sending me a replacement.
Another problem I continued to have is the SD card would continuously unmount. Hopefully the new one is a better quality unit.
Went into Sprint tonight and showed the tech the rattling noise from vibration feedback. He said yea that's not right. They ordered me another and will be here Tuesday. This will be my 3rd!
That's good. Sucks that you are on your 3rd one already though.

Hoping the 3rd one has no issues. Really digging this phone, but man if I keep having issues may have to move on to something else!
I had the same vibration problem. Almost like something rattling inside against the body of the phone.
As it was only 2 weeks old I got a direct replacement next day.
Yea, that's exactly what it sounded like. Got my replacement yesterday, back to rooted and S-Off last night. Hopefully it's not an ongoing issue.
This is ridiculous. Now my camera is borked. Gotta get ANOTHER replacement
Well, htc's customer service really sucks.

What are they gonna do for you?

I have to wait 3-5 days just to talk to the escalation department. They refuse to just replace the phone, even though they sent me a defective one. 3 live chats, 2 phone calls, ridiculous.

This is a normal shot from about 3 feet away. Camera refuses to focus. It sucks.
