[REQ] Return to stock unrooted - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hello all. Sorry if I missed this somewhere but do we have a return to stock method yet? It is not for me personally but I have been asked if there was a method. It seems that we should have one if we have root, for backup purposes and incase someone needs to return a phone to vzw, etc.

I have a back up I pulled of stock if its usefull it its my personal

At this point, you can downgrade fully if you have used AlphaRevX, with one exception: you retain S-OFF. You lose recovery, you go back to stock, but you still retain S-OFF.
I'm playing with it now, so hopefully I'll find any more issues soon.

Thanks guys. It's no big deal. Just wondered if there was something I could post over at droidforums for some people.
If one downgrades can't they just except the ota for stock gb? Won't that put s back on?

That I don't know... I tried checking for the update, but nothing ever happened. The problem though is that I know it hasn't been pushed/rolled out to everyone. So I don't know if they can get OTA.

Asked this in the irc earlier today and was told you can not go back to s-on. Hopefully this will be an option in the future. Wouldn't want any problems with verizon on a warranty or insurance claim.

Insurance I wouldn't think would be an issue.. If it's broke, it's broke. Warranty claim would be an issue, that's for sure.

Some people were talking about Ruus but I'll just tell them to stick with root for now.

It's that easy? If so, thank you very much.
Just be careful which one you flash. If you flash a rom that closes the ability to root you are screwed if you ever want to go back. Back a page or two someone posted the original Ruu from sprint which has the shipping EVO rom. Thats what you need to use to go back to stock and don't accept updates if you want to preserve your future root.

For now yes, that may not always be the case. In the event some poor soul searches the forum like a good noob and sees that its not a big deal, flashes a Sprint RUU that breaks root and ends up screwed.
Well I'm returning the phone so future root's isn't a concern but thank you!
Where did you find the Stock ROM? I can't find one. All I can find is the RUU. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions but I am new to this.

If your going through HTC directly just return your phone as is. They don't really care about the software if the replacement is due to a hardware issue. I'm not sure if sprint will be as finicky but my guess is they will be about the same.
What I've done is go to a sprint repair center. They tend to be fairly intelligent and generally swap right there.
Why would you get trashed for asking a question like that? The only reason I could see would be that it should be under the Q&A section, but if you think you'd get trashed because you asked a question about unrooting, I would like to know who's been giving this community a bad name. Not that I could do anything about it, but I like to think that we're pretty friendly here.

Hi, I am unable to hookup to my laptop due to usb port loose/faulty connection. I will be taking phone back to BestBuy to either fix or replace. Well- would like to anyways. So how would I do this if I cannot run the ruu or HTC sync? Could I just put the step 2 pcimg. On my sdcard and flash that? I was unable to get my pri to update so I have flashed the zip file that just changes the numbers to be correct.
Thanks for any help.

4.24.651.1 Update

Good afternoon,
I searched as best I could for an answer. I recently had my phone replaced because of water damage. The new phone I recieved has version 4.2.651.1 software. Is there anyway to get it back to version 3.x.xxx.x? (waiting for slap) If there is a way, please let me know. I would like to root my phone but as I've read in the forums, 4.2.651.1 cannot be rooted.
Thanks,
CJ
It's funny that your FIRST POST IS AS GAY AS THIS. if it can't be rooted, then it can't be rooted. simple as that. There is an OTA online waiting for you. go update your phone. LMAO! no joke. that is going to be the answer in the long run. The problem to rooting the phone will be clearly in the next OTA. As everyone on here says don't upgrade an OTA, but well, that's the answer. :-D

There's no need for a reply like that. On topic - basically as long as you have the gingerbread update you can't root your phone. There are some phones with the gingerbread update that can be rooted but I think its a temp hack only.

As for the OP, no, unfortunately no way to go back...it's sad I know. I had to get s on and unroot for a repair (knowingly of course) and now i kinda wished I still had a broken screen. Hehe. Until someone hacks the hboot 2.16 to allow us to downgrade to an older one we cannot get s off and consequently no permanent root, not that there is temp root either.
But if you like different Rosie mods there is a link in my signature about being unrooted. See if you can find anything there

not cool.
OP, from what I've gathered, a few people have received refurbished EVO's w/Gingerbread that have s-off from probably previous owners rooting their phones. If you received a refurb'd evo with s-off, I do believe you can flash on old RUU. More authoritative figures could confirm or dis confirm this.
Please boot into bootloader and tell us of you are s on or s off.
To do so turn off fast boot in settings then turn off phone, then hold volume Down kkey and power button

Restore DI2 Completely To Stock In Prep For ICS?

Please excuse anything I say that may seem laughable, ridiculous, or wrong, as I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to these things.
I just recently found out that the Droid Incredible 2 is receiving an official Ice Cream Sandwhich update soon, but I'm rooted (used downgrade and revolutionary method), and have clockwork mod recovery flashed. I'm on Android 2.3.3. I want to return my phone to spotless, brick free stock in order to prepare for the ICS update.
Reading up on this, the closest I've come is finding a guide which involves flashing a stock hboot and downgrading to froyo and updating to gingerbread from there (can't post a link as a new user). I just want to know, will doing this remove everything, including CWM Recovery, and return it to stock? I fear that if even if I were to succeed at changing the hboot, I'd be stuck with CWM Recovery or super user or something.
If not, can I get instructions on how to return my phone to stock in preparation for ICS? I don't want to do this, try and update, and brick my phone because remnants of CWM or Revolutionary or Superuser remain on my phone.
Thanks to any reply in advance!

why not wait till we get the ota and someone makes a rom put of it for us (like the same day) root is always better than stock.

I was considering that possibility also. An official rom could be flashed with cwm and would work just as well as an official ota update, yes?
Sorry, I'm very clueless when it comes to stuff like this.

What exactly is condemned soul and nit?
I'm going to be honest though, the only reason I rooted in the first place was to freeze bloatware (not flash anything), I actually like HTC Sense and would feel much more at ease if I could just get rid of root and go back to the way my phone was right out the box.

Ah, thanks for the info. If I'm unable to find a way to get back to stock to do an ota (I prefer official, I have OCD over these things), I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!
Couple things, first, while the Inc2 will get ICS, it's anyone's guess when that'll happen, and I seriously doubt it'll be in anyone's idea of "soon". As it needs to clear Verizon, and there haven't been any leaks yet, I would be shocked if we got an OTA before fall. Second, an OTA will likely include a new hboot which would almost certainly address the exploit Revolutionary used to gain s-off. That could leave you with HTC's unlock as your only way to get root back, and HTC's unlock means you're forfeiting your warranty. Maybe you're ok with that, maybe not.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd download all the files and instructions from the RootzWiki restore to stock thread and put them somewhere for safe keeping. When the OTA comes out, you could restore then and receive it, or certainly by that time there will be roms available based on leaks of the OTA.
If you don't mind all the bloat, don't need root and are willing to potentially loose root permanently, then go ahead and restore to stock now, but I guarantee you'd be months premature if the sole purpose is the ICS OTA.
As for your concern about the restore leaving a trace of root or Clockwork... It won't. Your phone will be 100% stock - hboot, recovery, kernel and rom.

One more thing. From what I've read/heard the Official Dinc II ICS will be Sense 3.6, where as the One V port that is being worked on is Sense 4.0.
I don't know what the differences are, but obviously 4.0 is 0.4 better than 3.6.

Yeah, I don't want to go back to stock now, but rather wait until the update is close to release and restore to stock then. I'd rather not flash a custom from, as I'm kinda OCD about "official" and stuff. I don't mind losing rooting capabilities after the ics update.
As for the rootzwiki restore to stock thread, does it include directions specificially for the Inc 2, or is returning to stock a universal method for all devices? Don't I need specific files, tools, and direction for my phone and its firmware? Can you point me in the direction on where I can find these directions and files? I'm such a noob at this, and I apologize for not knowing anything. I just don't want to stumble across a thread where I download a wrong file and flash something bad and I'm screwed over for good.
Thanks SO much for all the help everyone!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1579-how-to-restore-to-stock-from-alpharevx-incredible-2-vivow-only/
Is this the thread you were referring to, Chris? It seems sorta risky, but I'm willing to do it if I have a fighting chance. But AlpharevX, I'm assuming they mean Inc2's running 2.3.3 that were most likely rooted using the downgrade method with revolutionary? If so, I'd try it out.
Just a quick question, would there possibly be any roms that are identical to an official OTA update for the Inc2 when it comes out?
Apart from my obsessive desire to have an official firmware, I'm concerned about the camera. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but when I flashed cyanogenmod, the camera didn't seem as good as it was on stock htc sense. Not sure if I was just seeing things or not.

Yes, that's the thread, and it's specifically for the Inc2. AlpharevX and Revolutionary are the same things, so those instructions will work for both.
And yea, I agree about the camera. I recently flashed AndyBone Stock and the camera is definitely better. A shame because I really like stock CM7. I'm really hoping the CM9 based camera is better.
Thank you all for all the help! I'll try and do it once I sort out another problem of mine...
Restoring to stock can be risky. Who wants to brick there device right before the ics ota? But that's just my opinion. Theres a video showing you how to unroot your device by Nat3mil. Type his name in youtube and go to his channel. The video is one of his first videos so it will be on the bottom. He also has a guide showing you how to root, I used it for my phone. Someone will have an ota rooted ics Rom the first day (FYI)
PS. While your rooted you should at least try different Roms. It can be very enjoyable. I know you will like it.

Warranty Claim OEM Versions

I have a rooted phone, and currently in the troubleshooting process of trying to get a free upgrade due to the speakerphone issue. The tech ask for the version, and I hung up because its rooted, and against warranty. I know I have to eventually convert it back to stock, but I don't want to convert it, and be wasting time.
Could someone give me the current firmware information so I could tell them when prompted?
I see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
but what else do I need to tell the tech when asked? Thank you.
Wrong section. However...
Did you flash a custom rom? did you flash a different radio? If you've answered no to both these questions then you are still running the stock firmware except for the recovery.

yeah either way your gonna have to go through the "hassle". If you are going to warranty the phone they will ask for the you to send them in your current phone and if the warranty is voided by say custom roms you can be charge up to the value of the phone.
MIght as well get it over with and back up your info and odin that ish up. Honestly it doesn't take that long and do you really need root for the next 2 -3 days....
